[efloraofindia:330151] 105th TAW at Aarey VIP Guest House, Aarey, Mumbai on 22nd Sep,2019 at 8 am

2019-09-16 Thread renee vyas Vyas
Dear Friends,

Many of us took Aarey’s forest for granted that it will always be available
to us and our children to explore the jungle and its mysteries …. Its
wilderness has always allured many of us to visit it again an again looking
our for wild plants, insects, birds and if lucky to find leopard resting on
the branches of some tall tree……Its has never disappointed any of us.

And there was always this wonderful joy in leaving behind the noisy city’s
streets and walk out to a corner in the Aarey Milk Colony where the deep
blue sky and the swaying shadow cast by the trees and plants are a feast to
the eyes….where the rain drops tickle & tease you, sliding down the leaves
and falling on your face….where plants say nothing but gentle wind rustles
your hair and whispers sweet nothing in your ears…….where the morning sun
rays, tiptoeing through the trees, cajoling the butterflies to open their
wings and dazzle your eyes with its bright colours…….where the tall grand
old trees of Vad, Behada laden with orchids, Tad, Kate Sawar, Asan have
hundreds of secrets to share, stories to tell……where the flowers of many
plants blooming to their heart content, sending whiff of fragrance
around………telling the ignorant…….let this grandeur & serenity be as it
is……..allow us to speak…….allow us to be heard……..come & touch us to feel
our heart……….look up at us and read in our eyes, our thoughts & your
future……..because we are the future of you and your many generations on
this earth……

Day by day it is becoming very difficult to save the forest of Aarey Milk
colony……* the uniqueness of Aarey is in its plants…..(trees, shrubs,
herbs)………and their flower tells the tale of this uniqueness*…. so as a
tribute to its beautiful forest, we invite you all to take a Tree

[efloraofindia:313970] 100th Tree Appreciation Walk at Rani Bagh, Mumbai on 13th January,19 at 9.30 am

2019-01-06 Thread renee vyas Vyas
Dear Friends,

On the occasion of the 100th tree appreciation walk , we wish to thank all
of you for being our partners and collaborators, in this fascinating
journey of discovery of the sylvan world around us.

We embarked on this journey nine years ago , curious to know a little more
about the trees in our backyards, in our neighborhood , in the few green
spaces in the city, in our National Park.

Your enthusiasm and desire to know more about the trees around you ,
braving scorching heat of summer, rains, winter, reaching early in the
morning, from far off place like Thane, Dombivali, Colaba, Pune, Vasai,
Virar, pushed us to learn more and discover more. As we learned and
shared what we knew, we grew along with you all.

Ours has been a symbiotic relationship. Each one of us have given and
received together. On the tree walks, we have witnessed the magic of the
world of trees, marveled at their beauty, and been humbled by their
intelligence and quiet resilience . Together, we have experienced the truth
of Thoreau's words - 'I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than
the trees !’.

Through our tree appreciation walks , we hope to continue to kindle in
people , a desire to know more about trees, herbs, shrubs, climber around
us and an abiding interest in them and love for these marvelous works of
nature so that we cherish and protect them as we would our loved ones.

We invite you all for our 100th Tree Appreciation Walk on 13th January to
meet the denizens of Rani Bagh to share their numerous anecdotes….

*Our Tree Appreciation Walk on Sunday 13th January,2019 *

*Venue: Ranibagh also called Byculla Zoo, [VJB Udyan]*

*Time: 9.30 a.m.*

*Duration of walk: 2 hours*

*Meeting Point: Main gate, Near the ticket office. *

The Veermata Jijabai Bhonsle Udyan or simply Ranibagh or Byculla Zoo to
Mumbai residents, is a botanical garden. It has more than 3000 trees *[ 276
species]*.

Points to Remember :-

Carry plenty of water, pet bottles not allowed, wear cap and comfortable
shoes.

Eatables are strictly not allowed inside the garden officially……but as I
have said earlier ‘what’s the point in being an Indian if we do not break
some rules’.

Registration for our 100th Tree Appreciation Walk is not required.

Cheers,

TAW Team

to grow to the height of 70 feet on the rocks, towering over Gandhi

Dear Friends,

It is said “Where flowers blooms so does hopes”……..with this quote in our
heart we went in search of such garden in Mumbai and we saw this fashion
parade of flowers in Hanging Garden In Malabar Hills……Flowering of
Sandalwood tree and tons of figs on Ficus pumila, the only Ficus which is a
climber……..we discovered that not only each tree has a story to tell but
there are people who have numerous stories to share…….a young boy of 30
selling peacock feathers from the age of ten, could speak some 8/10
languages including Spanish, French which he learned from the foreigner who
come to visit the garden …..Another man has been coming to this garden for
last 45 years every day from Vile Parle, if he does not come for few days
he falls sick that is his belief…….This ancient garden gives a sense of
calmness and hope that all will be well and there will be good
monsoon……….We invite you all to take a Walk among flowers with us on 8th
may.

*The 72 walk is on Sunday 08th May, 2016 *

Standing under the tall trees of Mahua, Teak, Charoli, Toddy
Palm……surrounded by numerous wild flowers, climbers…….stared by hundreds of
wild turmeric on Malad Trail….hoping to meet some angels or a possibility
of meeting God, in our heart….

Remembered few lines by Hermann Hesse

A Tree says :- My strength is trust. I know nothing about my fathers. I
know nothing about the thousand children that every year spring out of me.
I live out the secret of my seed to the very end and I care for nothing
else. I trust that God is in me. I trust that my labour is holy. Out of
this trust I live…

conduct the walk there. It is about 1 km inside the park from the main
   gate.*

* 2. Its not possible for us to arrange for the vehicle from gate to
Silonda, please make yourown arrangements to reach there which is just
1 km from the main gate. Please do car pooling…do little net working.*

*Very Important : Please Don’t be late, specially those who are coming for
the 1st time for the trail in the park not familiar with the
areathere will be other groups also for their walks and it will be very
difficult to locate us once we leave for Silonda. Also the que for tickets
will be very long so do come early.*

*And as you all are aware that in forest we have to follow certain Do's
Don'tsHere are some*

*a) Please wear dull cloths only..preferably dark green, brown,
black.*

*b)No plastics bags or wrappers.carry food or snacks in boxes which
you carry back home.*

*c) Carry Odomos or any mosquito repellent, drinking water.*

*f)Have proper rain wear good rainy shoes.*

*g] Stay with the group.*

*h] Each one responsible for their own safety .*

*I] Take nothing from nature.*

*Leave nothing behind except your footprints.*

* Take lots of pictures and memories.*

*Park gate opens at 7.30 am.*

*List of the trees which we are planning to show will be send later.*

*Hope to see you all,*

*Cheers,*

Thanks for the pictures of Alangium salvifolium...please check the
close up pictures of the flower fruits of the shrub which I have again
attached with this mail...color of the flower is orangish not white
the fruits are much smaller. Moreover Alangium salvifolium is a tree
 whereas this is shrub.
I found number of these shrubs around in the wild, not more then 5 to 6
ft tall and most of them have their branches spread over other small trees
shrubs...one can say they were scandent.

The other possibility is Grewia damine [G.salvifolia], the Salvia-leaved

[efloraofindia:172592] 43rd Tree Appreciation Walk in MNP, Dharawi on 10th Nov,13 at 7.30 am

2013-11-02 Thread renee vyas Vyas
*Dear Friends,*

*The entire world of plants surrenders itself to the fluttering of the
butterflies in the month of October November. These “Daughters of the
Sun” never seems to be tired of dashing from flowers to flowers for nectar
or from plants to plants, to find the favorite food for their
caterpillars……..Kadamb (Mitragyna parviflora) is not only the favorite of
Lord Krishna for his raaslila with Radha but also the favorite food plant
of the caterpillars of Commander butterflies…. It a fact that the Kaddi
patta adds flavor to our food but the caterpillars of Common Mormon too
wants their share of it and in most of our private gardens balconies,
there is this race to get the kaddi patta for the seasoning by us, before
the caterpillars of Common Mormon chomp off all the leaves…….Red Silk
Cotton (Bombay ceiba)’s flowers are the meeting joints for the birds but
the leaves are relished by the caterpillars of Common Sailor………Maharashtra
Nature Park, Dharawi has large number of food nectar plants for these
“Flying Spirits”.we invite you all to visit MNP to check out the number
of species visiting this park and their preference in nectar food plants
on 10th November,13……*

*Very Important there will be other groups present for other activities
so please inform at gate that you are for Tree Appreciation WalkDon’t

group leader as we have paid in advance.*

*Please reach at MNP before 7.30 am because cars are not allowed to park
inside the park so you may take some time to park your car outside.*

*One more important thing……..there is a Farmer’s Market organized in the
Park at Nakshatra Van on every Sunday from 10am to 3 pm……..people sell
organic vegetable other items…….its gets little crowed so we will start
our Walk 1st from the Nakshatra Van.*

*Please carry bags if anybody wants to buy vegetable etc as they do not
provide bags……..its worth a visit to this market, of course after the Walk
!*

 Family: Araceae*

I also recently observed quite a number of these plants on Purandar and
also in the area at the base of it last week but failed to find any
inflorescence so far. It should arise before the leaves would appear I
 suppose.

[efloraofindia:159221] 40th Tree Appreciation Walk in Silonda Trail of SGNP, Mumbai on 7th July,13

2013-07-03 Thread renee vyas Vyas
Dear Friends,

The rain the regeneration is happening in full swing in the national
park………The beautiful majestic trees everywhere in the park, are quiet
subdued, totally immersed in their seasonal work of making storing
food……… the sheer varieties of climbers are rushing to reach on top
of them touch their canopy…….……..the delicate herbs are in hurry to
complete their life cycle in the monsoon..one can feel the energy
synergy among the flora fauna (butterflies, bugs, beetle, grass hoppers,
praying mantis, spiders, crabs etc) in there……. Hope to see you all.

Here is the list of the plants which we are planning to show during our
Walk……

Cheers,

Renee
