[Inkscape-translator] Website / General: Thanks / Translatable items for the 1.0 Release

2020-05-03 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi everybody,

firstly, I'd like to thank you for all your translation work that you've
put in so we could together create this new major version, Inkscape 1.0
(not published yet at the time of writing).

It's great to see how you're all working on making this piece of vector
editing software accessible to many people in the world, who would
otherwise have had a really hard time using it, or would miss out on it
entirely.

2. ---

Secondly, if you're reading this from the sourceforge mailing list,
please make sure you're also subscribed to the new mailing list
(inkscape-transla...@lists.inkscape.org). If you're not subscribed
there, head to

https://lists.inkscape.org

and subscribe to the new list, please, because the sourceforge one will
close by the end of the next week (at least that is Bryce's plan).

If something doesn't work with the subscription, please visit
https://inkscape.org/report and ask for assistance.

We don't want to lose you because of some random mailing list bugs!

3. ---

Thirdly, there's a pair of new news articles for the website, for the
1.0 release.

Please DO NOT CHANGE THEIR PUBLICATION STATUS (they aren't public yet),
but please start with getting them translated, if you can.

You will find them in the news overview at

as

"Introducing Inkscape 1.0" at
https://inkscape.org/news/unpublished/1001/

and as

"Roots and Shoots of the Inkscape Project"
at
https://inkscape.org/news/unpublished/1002/

There are a few (3) things marked in red in the first article. These
still need to be filled in when they are available. Please keept the red
marker, so even people who do not speak your language can do the
replacement.

4.

Fourth(ly?), there is a shortened variant of the release notes attached
as HTML. If your language is an official website language, and you want
the shortened notes to be available at

https://inkscape.org//release

then you can send that translated html to the list and I'll see to it
being included. Do not worry about the release date being May 1st,
that's the day when packagers have been notified of the new code being
available for them to make a package.

5. ---

The fifth item is the front shield on inkscape.org. It has been updated
to be more user friendly, allowing direct clicks on the tab fields below
the large image, with new icons, and a new title image.

The texts that previously were overlaying the picture have been
shortened and are now living in another form field that shows up in the
tabs.

You can copy the updated user number for the image authors directly, and
do not need to do a search for the name.

Please compare thoroughly to the English version, almost all fields have
changed. Many need to be emptied, too. Best open both the English
editing form and the one in your language in parallel (but don't save
the English one, of course!).

Save the page, but DO NOT PUBLISH YET!

6. ---

The sixth possible translatable item is the release notes article itself
on the Wiki. It has grown to an incredible length, because of the sheer
mass of new and improved features.

There's a new way of translating that available now, so click on
'Translate this page' at the top of the page, centered below the title,
to translate, if you want to try it out. Partial translations are okay,
too, or translator teams who coordinate for their language.

As they are so long, do not worry if you do not have time to do it all,
or to do it now. Only do as much as you like and want to.

For any quick questions, join the chat at
https://chat.inkscape.org/channel/team_translation .

Thank you again,
 Kind Regards
  Maren

Re: [Inkscape-translator] horizontal for average vertical origin ?

2020-04-15 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi Cristi,

yes, that's correct.

From the SVG specs:

"The horiz-origin-y attribute indicates the y-coordinate in the font
coordinate system of the origin of a glyph to be used when drawing
horizontally oriented text."

The origin is described on the vertical axis (y), but it's for
horizontally written text ...

(yes, it's a bad name ...)

2020-04-11 Thread Maren Hachmann
That's a GitLab bug that we've been trying to get fixed for a long time,
but it's obviously not their priority...

Often, there's really a file there, but instructions for finding it via
navigating the pipeline web page on Gitlab are quite complex...

TL;DR: Try again later, it'll be there at some point... :-/

I think further syncs were skipped because of string freeze (and some

if it's not translated, it's not translated. Only changing strings would

[Inkscape-translator] Last call for translations for Inkscape 1.0

2020-04-11 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi everybody!

Things are starting to get serious with Inkscape 1.0!

Currently, it looks as if there are about 2 weeks left for adding
translations to the 'big' release.

So if you'd still like to help your fellow language speakers out with a
well translated Inkscape 1.0 (or its tutorials, man page, keyboard
shortcuts or Windows installer), please head to the Wiki page

https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Translation_information

to see which files would need your attention.

[Inkscape-translator] Please update or add your entry in the TRANSLATORS file

2020-01-03 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi everyone,

we need to work on updating the translators' credits file. It's going to
be viewable from the dialog at Help > About, and it should be up-to-date
for Inkscape 1.0.

If you have ever worked on translating Inkscape

(the program itself, the included tutorials, the keyboard shortcuts, the
man page, or the installer. NOT the website),

then please:

* visit
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/blob/master/TRANSLATORS

* and check if:

  - your name is in the file
  - the dates for your translation work are correct

* if you find that your name is still missing, or that the dates need to
be updated:

  - click on 'Edit'
  - insert or edit your entry in the correct place, following the
alphabetical order
  - write a message like 'Update TRANSLATORS file with new contributor
to Spanish translations'
  - click on 'Commit changes'. Wait a bit.
  - after that, the merge request form will open.
  - if you want to, add a description.
  - activate the following options:
 - 'Delete source branch when merge request is accepted',
 - 'Squash commits when merge request is accepted' and
 - 'Allow commits from members who can merge to the target branch'
  - click on 'Submit merge request'
  - wait for someone to review your changes

Thanks!

 Kind Regards
  Maren

Spanish translation:

*Compatibilidad con macOS 10.15 Catalina.*
*
*
Inskcape 0.9x para macOS es un programa de 32 bits que dejará de ser
compatible con macOS Catalina.

Actualmente estamos trabajando duro en el próximo gran lanzamiento de
Inkscape que será completamente compatible con Catalina.

Si actualizas a Catalina y necesitas usar Inkscape inmediatamente,
puedes probar un lanzamiento en desarrollo de Inkscape 1.0 (actualmente
en beta).

Lo puedes descargar desde la página de descarga en la sección de
versiones en desarrollo.

Hi website translators,

as macOS users cannot use any officially released Inkscape version
anymore if they updated their computer to the lates macOS version, we've
got a short info item prepared for them here:

http://www.inkscape.org/news/2019/11/10/macos-1015-catalina-support/

If you can squeeze this in, it would be great to have it translated!

Hi José and Aino,

thank you both for your help.

I assume both versions are in Spanish - maybe one from South America,

Can you please collaborate to come up with a version that you both are

Please also include the front page part of the news, then I'll be able

Thank you!

Re: [Inkscape-translator] How to make a glossary for a translation team?

2019-11-05 Thread Maren Hachmann
That would be nice.

I think you should ask Patrick (ede123 on the chat and IRC) about more
details on the last status.

The website we once had set up for testing is offline, I tested that
yesterday.

As for server resources, Bryce is the person to talk to.

Re: [Inkscape-translator] How to make a glossary for a translation team?

2019-11-04 Thread Maren Hachmann
We've looked into it, and encountered some hurdles, both in performance
as in functionality, and also were still thinking over establishing good
workflows that will work for both translators as well as developers.

We are currently lacking developer and administrator resources to
further pursue it, but hope to pick it up again at a later point when
there are people available.

2019-10-19 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi José,

that's a great translation of the web page, and I'll put it in soon.
Thank you!

However, I was asking for a translation of a social media post:

"Our upcoming version 1.0 needs an About Screen. Show us your
interpretation of what this open source graphics editor can do! Deadline
is Nov. 17. Details here:
https://inkscape.org/community/about-screen-contests/;

with 280 characters maximum. Maybe the lack of quotes around it caused
the confusion... Sorry about that!

(Because the contest page on the website is going to be updated
continuously, and will only be needed for a very short time, I didn't
ask for translations for that).

Can you help us with the requested social media post, too?

Note that, as we are already in string freeze, the changes might only
find their way into Inkscape 1.1.

Details on pot file issue

The problem was caused by the previous pot file update on September
22nd, which excluded a couple more strings from translation than it
should have.

The issue affected a couple live path effect dialog strings for:
angle bisector, perpendicular bisector, path segment, offset, tangent to
curve, parallel.

If you have updated your translation file from that pot file within the
last two weeks, some of your translations may have been moved into the
comment section at the bottom (if your way of updating keeps old strings
for later use).

They should reappear when you update your file again with the current
pot file (see
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Translation_information#Update_a_translation_file).

[Inkscape-translator] Fwd: Inkscape 1.0-beta1 released

2019-09-17 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi translators,

forwarding a message from Marc to the user mailing list, that also has
relevance for translators:

The Inkscape project has released a first beta version of the upcoming and
much-awaited Inkscape 1.0!

After releasing two less visible alpha versions this year, in
mid-January and
mid-June, Inkscape is now ready for extensive testing and subsequent
bug-fixing.

You can get the release at

https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.0beta1/

in the form of source tarball to compile, AppImage for Linux, 7-zip for
Windows, and .dmg for macOS.

The extensive list of changes is hosted at

http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/1.0

=== Unexpected features (aka "bugs") ===

Please test away and report your findings at
https://inkscape.org/report! We
are especially interested in:

- problems with texts in Inkscape files from older Inkscape versions
- unknown crashes
- extensions not doing what they should be doing
- new features not working correctly
- things that worked in 0.92.4, but are no longer working in the beta
version.

=== Breaking changes ===

[breaking change] The commandline API changed! If you have automated stuff
using Inkscape, be aware you'll need to fix it with
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/1.0#Command_Line

[breaking change] The extension API (inkex) changed! There is a
compatibility
layer, but if you maintain an extension, make sure to update it with the
new
extension API

=== Translation ===

Translators are encouraged to start looking at translation work. String
freeze will be soon, but we do not anticipate any serious changes between
now and string freeze out of some adjustments in the text UI so please feel
free to start preparing your language translations.

Please aim to get all translation work committed and submitted by the
end of
October.

=== Packagers ===

- The autotools build system was entirely removed in this version to use
CMake.
- We now depend libdouble-conversion and on potrace (full list of
dependencies
with min versions is on
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Tracking_Dependencies )
- If other packages depend on Inkscape, please notify their maintainer
of the
breaking changes above.

=== About Screen Contest ===

The about screen contest will probably take place all October, aligned
with the
"Inktober" challenge :D

More information soon.

=== Bugfixers ===

If you know how to fix bugs in c++ code (or python for extensions), get
in touch!

Thanks,
Marc

PS: We currently have a technical issue on the lists.inkscape.org new
mailing lists, which is worked on, sorry about this

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Bug with Sponsors page

2019-08-26 Thread Maren Hachmann
Fixed. The problem is that duplicate slugs don't work, so you'd have had
to find a different one from 'sponsors' which is already used for
English. I named the page slug 'sponsors_fr' and adjusted the menu link.

For me, that is a bug, but I'm not sure it's one we can fix...

Hi Gellért,

the release had been planned for early June, but it very much looks as
if that date is not going to hold.

Current estimates according to Bryce are 'late summer or early fall'.

Re: [Inkscape-translator] looking to contribute

2019-04-18 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi Joshua,

great - the Swedish translation for the program hasn't seen any updates
for over a year, and seems to be in a generally neglected state - so I
think this would be the best place to start.

The current status for Inkscape master (soon Inkscape 1.0) for Swedish is:

35% (3019/8500) translated
44% (3787) fuzzy
21% (1785) not translated
38% (14498/37719) of words translated

So there's a lot to do! Is there anyone else in your class or course who
would be able/like to help you? If there isn't anyone, you could also
try to contact one of the previous translators of the file, to get some
feedback - the non-Swedish speakers here can help with logistics and
with Inkscape, but not with Swedish. It's always good to have someone
else to talk things over with.

The po file is available at

https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/master/po

The Wiki link
(http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Translation_information) lists
some suitable translation software.

Are you familiar with git / gitlab already?

(I'm sending this to the translators' list, please make sure you reply
to it, too.)

For quick help with terms in Inkscape, you can also contact us in the
chat at https://chat.inkscape.org/channel/team_translation .

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Hi website translators,

we've had an update on the FAQ, describing the current status of CMYK in
Inkscape and listing some possible workarounds.

https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/#how-create-graphics-cmyk-color-space-inkscape

The item about Inkscape 1.0 (something along the lines of 'will there be
an 1.0 and how will it look') has been removed, as we're getting closer
to the real 1.0 with each day.

I hope you all have a nice week ahead of you,

Oh wow what an amazing find! I can't believe I didn't know about this.

This is an amazing manual, it seems to be made for a workshop about
Inkscape. Yes, please include it on the website!

https://www.srce.unizg.hr/files/srce/docs/edu/osnovni-tecajevi/r600_polaznik.pdf

SRCE is an amazing government agency, and oxymoron I know lol They are
responsible for bringing Internet and later broadband internet to
Croatia ahead of many other European countries. Their open source spirit
is very high, and although I know about their Drupal related activities
I'm so glad to see they're into Inkscape too!

They licensed the manual with
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0

They state that it was made by a team, so maybe they'd like the whole
team to be attributed, or maybe just the SRCE. We can ask them and see
what they prefer.

Thank you Milo for working on the translations! I tried to translate the
app a long time ago but it was way over my head, I don't use almost any
software in Croatian and I was so lost about how to name things.

Hi Milo, hi Mihaela,

thank you, Milo, this sounds like a good idea to me.

as my Croatian is a bit... non-existant, I'd like to have Mihaela's
opinion on the manual you found. I'm including her in CC.

Mihaela, can you have a rough look at it, please, and let us know if
it's fine to link to?

As long as we're only linking to it, it seems fine to include it from
the licencing point of view.

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Fwd: Introducing myself

2019-02-28 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi Milo,

welcome here on the translators' mailing list, and thank you for your
contributions to Inkscape's translations so far!

The new Croatian po file is merged, and will be visible live on the
inkscape.org website with the next code update that Martin pushes to the
website, that contains your update to the settings file.

Until then, please have a look at
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite and let us know if you
have any questions regarding the things written there about translating
and editing the website.

I'll give you permission to edit when there are no open questions and as
soon as the new language is available for editing.

We also have a chat channel at
https://chat.inkscape.org/channel/team_translation that can be used for
quick questions and mutual support.

(and I see Bryce has already tried to recruit you for the next task ;-))

Btw. reading your introduction, I wonder if you could help us with
describing requirements for a CMYK/color managed workflow with Inkscape?

Hi Sylvain,

I just tried (probably the same things you tried already), and couldn't
make it work.

Here's the bug report:

https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/issues/348

By now, I wish we had a text-file based cms, that could be edited in git...

lol, sorry, I confused the links, Sylvain... doing too many things at
once...

I think the page must still (or again) be in progress - or someone just
inserted something incomplete.

Omit that empty section - it doesn't look like the page is actively
being edited currently. If you want to, you can also fix up the English
page.

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Website: Sponsors page updated

2019-02-27 Thread Maren Hachmann
Just a heads-up:

I've just translated (mostly pasted from the old page) the new sponsors
page myself, and encountered a couple of issues (workarounds below):

- when you select to 'edit the page' you get redirected to a page that
does no longer exist (/support-us/sponsors/sponsors) - edit the url,
take one /sponsors out. Then you can access the page you want to edit.

- When selecting 'copy all from English', you get the plugins (images,
team membership) that are on the page, but they are still the original
English ones (in the db), so they will not show up after publishing the
page. You need to open each one, check out its contents, delete it, and
then recreate it for your language.

Kind Regards
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] Website: Sponsors page updated

2019-02-24 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hello Website Translators!

I hope you're all having a good weekend - here, the sun is shining and
the first flowers of spring are already in bloom!

For the inkscape.org website, Martin has updated the Sponsor page.

It now uses plugins for showing the current sponsors - this means that
when we get a new sponsor, you do no longer need to update the page,
because it will update automatically!

As Inkscape is aiming at more actively soliciting sponsors' support,
this might (hopefully) become a more frequent occurrance soon :)

(only drawback is that sponsor descriptions are no longer translatable)

You can find the new sponsors page for translation at
https://inkscape.org//sponsors/?edit

Your translated version of the old sponsors page is still available via
https://inkscape.org//sandbox/sponsors/?edit

Most texts didn't change a lot, so I suppose you will be able to reuse
some of them.

You need to fix up the urls with your language code because of
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/issues/346

(in short: moving CMS pages within the menu does not properly update the
saved urls...)

Thank you for your help & happy translating
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] Website: Several pages updated for new bug tracker

2019-02-19 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi Website translators,

due to the move of the bug tracker to gitlab, we've adjusted several web
pages to link to the correct places, and Patrick and Brynn worked
together on updating and improving the 'report bugs' page. Max fixed
some code sections.

Now it looks like there won't be any major changes coming in the near
future, so these updated pages can be translated:

https://inkscape.org/develop/bug-management/ - only the introductory
part changed

https://inkscape.org/develop/getting-started/ - mostly url changes, but
also some code and description changes in Linux and - I think - in
Windows and Mac parts

https://inkscape.org/contribute/translations/ - only url changes, as far
as I know, and only in the "Guidelines/workflow" paragraph

https://inkscape.org/contribute/report-bugs/ - only links changed

https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/ - instructions for installing add-ons
were updated
(https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/#how-install-new-extensions-palettes-document-templates-symbol-sets-icon-sets-etc),
and there was an 'old' inserted into 'can be found by searching the old
Launchpad bugtracker' at the end of the dpi change section
(https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/#dpi_change).

The changes that were made were a bit difficult to track, unfortunately,
due to some broken website functionality, and due to them happening in
various iterations. I did take screenshots of most changes, though. They
are available as a zip file from
https://inkscape.org/gallery/item/13516/diff_screenshots.zip .

Hope you all have a good week!

Thank you for your help with Inkscape's website
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] Website: News article about Spreadshirt shop

2019-01-16 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi translators,

as promised, we're producing lots of news at the moment.

They are now easily accessible again, because Martin just fixed the
issue with that.

This next article is about Inkscape's new shop on Spreadshirt:

https://inkscape.org/news/2019/01/13/inkscapes-spreadshirt-shop-offers-branded-mugs-tot/

If we ever meet, maybe one of you wears some Inkscape T-Shirt from there?

Happy translating,
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] Website News: SCALE Hackfest fundraiser article posted

2019-01-15 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi translators!

These are busy days...

There will be a lot to translate (I know, because I'm reviewing and
co-authoring) in the next couple of days coming your way.

The series starts with an article about the upcoming Hackfest at
Southern California Linux Expo.

As the website again has a serious issue (news aren't visible... which I
hope can be solved soon), you need to use the link editing way again to
create a translation:

https://inkscape.org//admin/cmsplugin_news/news/919/tr/

Thank you for all your help - also to those of you who contributed to
the translations for the two releases that are going to go out later today!

Kind Regards

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Translations for 'default.svg' and 'Layer 1'

2019-01-13 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi Cristi,

I just looked into my version of Inkscape master, and couldn't find that
translating the part without a space made any difference - it's still
called layer1 in the id field for the layer. I can't think of another
place where something like layer1 would be used in the program.

So it's probably fine to reset that to layer1 for Catalan.

Is it okay for you if I put that on my todo list?

[Inkscape-translator] Translations for 'default.svg' and 'Layer 1'

2019-01-13 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi translators,

we need your help for the default templates translations:

Step 1:
---

Please look into the attached screenshot, and check if your language's
po file is in the list.

If it is, then do the following:

Step 2:
---

Please visit
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/blob/master/share/templates/create_defaults.pl

and check if there is a translation for 'Layer 1' in the list.

Step 3:
---

If there isn't, please quickly (until in ~ 5 hours from now), send me
your translation for the term 'Layer 1' and your language shortcut (or,
even better, the full line that would go into the file linked above).

If you prefer, you can also make a merge request on gitlab.

You can still submit that entry later, but it won't go into the alpha
release then anymore.

Thank you!

Kind Regards
 Maren

Re: [Inkscape-translator] 0.92.4 - last chance to get your translations into the next release! (+release notes)

2019-01-12 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi again, translators!

Bryce has just asked me to let you know that, if you want to make any
last changes for translations in the *MASTER* branch (not 0.92.4),
before an alpha version of Inkscape 1.0 will be created, you can still
do that until in ~22 hours from now.

Both, Inkscape 0.92.4 and Inkscape 1.0alpha (for courageous testers,
lots of new (not all finalized) strings), will be released some time
next week, supposedly.

Sorry for not having kept you in the loop about this... :-/

Kind Regards,
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] 0.92.4 - last chance to get your translations into the next release! (+release notes)

2019-01-08 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi there, fellow Inkscape translators!

The next bugfix release of the Inkscape 0.92.x branch is due in a couple
of days (probably next week, or maybe the week after).

Program translations

If you'd like to get your translations into this next stable release,
please grab the po file for your language from

https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/0.92.x/po

and submit it as soon as possible!

(if you know how, it's preferred if you create a fork and a merge
request, to merge into the 0.92.x branch). Make sure to work on the file
in the 0.92.x branch!

Release notes translation
-

Release notes for a bugfix release aren't super exciting, nonetheless,
there are also some nice small new features in 0.92.4.

The release notes can be found at
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.92.4

Translate them on the Wiki, but only if the website lists your language
in the language dropdown.

Let us know on the mailing list if you need Wiki access for this.

When you're ready, ping me on the mailing list or in the chat at
https://chat.inkscape.org/channel/team_translation , so I can transfer
your translation to the website.

Happy translating!

[Inkscape-translator] Website: New News: A new Platinum sponsor!

2018-12-08 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi translators,

news are coming in (comparably) rapid succession now - this time, we
have a typical pre-Christmas news, with a big new donor.

As the 'translate news' link in the dropdown seems to have vanished (see
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/issues/279), you will need to
access this one for translation by using the following link scheme:

https://inkscape.org//admin/cmsplugin_news/news/910/tr/

There will be more news to come in the near future (topics: an alpha
release, a maintenance release, an undisclosed topic, a hackfest
fundraiser).

I hope that maybe new translators can help us share the load, or maybe
'old' ones could jump back in to help us out. Most of us are probably in
pre-Christmas mode, and have lots and lots to do, so any help is
appreciated.

Thank you all,
 Maren

Polish had been disabled, because there weren't any translations and
each additional language was costing us a lot in terms of website
serving times. I have kept the po file because I thought someone might
come along and help :)

As soon as there is an updated Polish po file (please start with that),
we can reenable the language on the website. After that, I'd like you to
focus on the news articles first, because the web page translation
workflows are currently very convoluted.

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Merging updated es.po file from gitlab fails

2018-12-07 Thread Maren Hachmann
This error does not impact the ability to merge, as far as I understand.

If you want to fix it, you need to set the time limit for CI execution
to a high enough value.

It says 'Inkscape:linux failed: job execution timeout' on the web page
that you get to when you click on the red x icon.

The protocol, when you click on that failed job, says:
'ERROR: Job failed: execution took longer than 1h0m0s seconds'

To fix, please visit
https://gitlab.com/lucasvieites/inkscape/settings/ci_cd ,
unfold the first item,
and set the timeout to 2 hours.

[Inkscape-translator] Website: More news, this time: SFC donation campaign

2018-11-27 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi again, translators!

Our hardworking news team has prepared and posted another news item,
which is about Inkscape's umbrella organization asking for donations, so
they can keep on giving support to all those awesome open source projects.

You can find it here:

https://inkscape.org/news/2018/11/28/support-inkscape-supporting-software-freedom-conse/

Switch to your own language on that page and select to translate the
news article.

It's comparably long, but I hope that as many of us as possible can find
some time to translate it, so they get as much support as possible :)

@Finlay: please let me know if you can help with it, there are a lot of
different things I need to attend to currently, and some are already a
bit overdue.

Thank you everyone for your help!

[Inkscape-translator] Website: New Sponsor added

2018-11-25 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi there, Website Translators!

Inkscape has a new platinum sponsor, which means that:

- the sponsors page has been updated
(https://inkscape.org/support-us/sponsors/) with the new VectorStock
Logo and description. I've also fixed the alphabetical order - PIA is
now right after OSUOSL.

- on the front page at https://inkscape.org, the 'Recent Sponsor' logo
and links/alt texts were exchanged for the new one (just edited the CMS
plugin, it's the fastest way to do this).

We will (hopefully) also soon have a news article about them.

Thank you for your help with the website translations!

(I'll do the German translations tonight)

One small caveat:

If you insert a link (and don't just edit one), you may need to fix it
in source mode.

1. Open source mode
2. look for links
3. remove http or https, whichever is wrong (both are inserted for some
reason)

Seems we're haunted by link problems...

Corresponding bug report by Marc:

the discussion and will know when it's fixed.

- In a few months (or maybe earlier), we will have an automatted search
mask for internal links. Please try to remember it until then.

See https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/issues/238 for updates.

- Yes, see also the linked Wiki page below where it is explained in
detail. Specifically, you will find the relevant section at

[Inkscape-translator] Website: FAQ and Learn page updated

2018-11-06 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi there, website translators!

As editing works again, Brynn has made the updates she was planning to
do now.

1. On https://inkscape.org/learn/, the link to the videos by heathenx
has been updated with a new url and a new description.

2. In the FAQ, an item for another frequent issue has been added:
https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/#you-want-select-individual-object-you-can-only-select-whole-image

Thank you for your help!

@Finlay: Would you have time to take care of the FAQ item? I'm currently
quite busy with more things than I should be working on in parallel
already...

Kind Regards,
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] [Inkscape-devel] Website update: current status

2018-11-02 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi,

another status update:

Martin has worked to fix the issues that had the greatest impact on
website use, after the switch to the new Python 3 version of the website.

What works again:
-

- News editing and translation
- CMS page editing and publishing
- Registration
- Uploading images

What doesn't work:
--

- Correct menu language (when you visit the website, you may get English
pages, but see a menu in German, Italian, or some other language. This
doesn't happen consistently.)
- Providing fallback pages if a page doesn't exist in a certain language
(it then just goes directly to the English page, with the - hopefully -
English menu).

This means that translators must pay extra attention on the URL, to see
if they are working on their own language, and not the English page!

- Messages between users
- ... and some more, see https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/issues

What works differently:
---

The website does no longer use link plugins. Those were a source of a
lot of issues, confusing editors and the CMS alike. Martin converted all
existing link plugins to normal html links.

This means that - unless a Table of contents, an image, a gallery, a
user list or any other plugin are part of the page - one can now
copy-paste almost any text from one page to another, without risking to
break something.

All new links will now be inserted using the link icon in the editor (or
in the source mode). As redirects aren't working
properly, you need to include the language code for the language you're
linking to in the link.

For a link that is goes to another page on inkscape.org, do not include
the domain. In the protocol dropdown, select '' instead of
'https' to be able to leave it out.

Another side effect of the change seems to be that publishing works a
lot faster than we're used to.

The Website instructions Wiki page has been updated to reflect the
current changes:
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite

Help needed
---

Martin has asked me to ask if someone (preferably someone who is fluent
in Python, and if possible, has Django experience) can help with website
bug fixing. A good place to start would be to install the website
locally on your computer (requires Linux, or a VM with Linux), and to
check on the issues section for the website on gitlab.

Vectors team, could you publish this request on social media? Ask Martin
for details :)

[Inkscape-translator] Website update: current status

2018-10-11 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi there,

Martin, Bryce and Travis from our friendly hosters at OSUOSL have worked
on switching the inkscape.org website to the newer version this evening.

In some parts of the world, due to DNS propagation, you might not yet
see the new page, but you will soon (it looks pretty much the same,
though, just the backend is newer).

It now features a new shiny django (yay!).

Unfortunately, it currently has problems with page edits, news edits and
resource uploads.

Please hold off editing anything on it, to not lose any work.

Martin is working on fixing things, and will let you know when it's good
for editing again.

Downloads and viewing the pages work as usual (except for viewing pasted
texts), so most people won't be affected by the issues.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] Website: Copy all from English - NEW BUG!

2018-10-08 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi there, dear website translators,

on the inkscape.org website, we're currently having a problem with the
functionality 'Copy from English'.

This functionality does no longer seem to be safe for copying plugin links.

-

This will happen if you try:

Copy from English -> get a perfectly normal looking copy -> Edit text
and links within -> Save edited link -> Changes do not show -> Save page
-> changes show in Edit mode on translated page, and in Edit mode on
English page (!) -> Publish -> Links on translated page go missing.

Open English page in Edit mode -> see translated links, but not
published (now one can revert changes in English, fortunately).

-

Martin is currently working on an updated version of the website which
is planned to be released very soon.

Our new Italian translator Marco is going to test with the new version
if the error will be there, too.
Meanwhile, please don't publish any translation with links that have
recently been copied from English, without:

- first recreating all links
- checking the English original afterwards

It is currently safe to:

- Copy text plugins without any links
- Create links and plugins from scratch in your language, and use a text
editor to strip all plugins and formatting for transferring the contents
from English to your language.
- Edit and translate news articles
- Edit and translate po files
- Share translations for the download page for someone with permissions
to upload them to the website's releases system

We will keep you updated - please keep your fingers crossed that it's
not going to be an issue with the next version of the site!

Thank you all,
 Kind Regards,
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] Website: News updated

2018-10-05 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi there, website translators,

even though several people have reviewed the Hackfest news article
before it went live, we have overlooked to add one very important part:
The 'thank you' to our donators, and the link to donations.

We just noticed this during the board meeting, and I've put a new
paragraph in at the end.

I'm sorry - we don't usually edit news articles after they've been
published, but this was much too important to leave out.

Thank you very much for your help!

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Intro

2018-10-04 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi Marco,

welcome :)

Great to meet another language enthusiast!

I see you already found the website translators' team on the website.

Have you already had a chance to look at the Wiki pages?

For a start, I'd suggest you:

- hop over to gitlab, create an account there, and start with the po
file for the website: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web-i18n

- while or after working on that, take a closer look at the Wiki page
part for CMS translations, and then hop over to our 'playground server' at
http://inkscape.sandcats.io:8091/ and try things out there a bit. Then,
when you know how to find your way around, let us know and we'll give
you permissions for the real website. This is because it's really easy
to break the website, it's not a very stable thing.

I've sent you an email with login data for the test server, as it
doesn't have a working mail server and cannot send registration
confirmation emails.

We've also already met on the chat channel, which is a good place to ask
for info for specific terms and for translator small talk :)

See you soon,
 Kind Regards,
 Maren

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Website: Animations page updated

2018-10-03 Thread Maren Hachmann
Some updates, as I've now had a look:

ad 1.) I've put the links for JessyInk back in, and updated them. The
old project has been moved to the archive of google code (but links were
redirecting, so there's no pressing need to update them in your
translations).

ad 2.) Shorter version: all links for Xia have been updated to go to the
English version of their website. Nothing to do for the French
translators here, as the French version is probably what they want.

Thanks!

(and I forgot to remove part of the subject of the message - I'll send
another one shortly...)

Kind Regards,
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] Website: Animations page updated / Translators' chat channel

2018-10-02 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi again, Website translators,

Brynn has sent me info about a couple of small edits she made on the
Animations page today. I haven't had a look myself yet, but would like
to pass it on to you:

1. On the Animation page (https://inkscape.org/en/learn/animation/) she
has edited the paragraph and the subtitle for the paragraph, on JessyInk.

2. In the paragraph about XIA, she edited the link in both the subtitle
for that section, and the first word in the paragraph. Also, a short
way down the page (2 paragraphs down) under Standalone Programs, the
link for XIA (in "XIA and Sozi") was edited.

She writes that the replaced links were to the French version of the
website. French translators, please check if there's a plugin copy
problem with those links (i.e. same plugin ID in source mode/ links in
French go to English page now), and if so, remove them from French and
create new ones in their place.

3. In the paragraph for Synfig Studio, both the subtitle and the first
word of the paragraph, the links have been edited.
-

Thank you for your help!

We want donations, so stating that there were achievements, and that

It's a quick translation, so if you have 2 minutes to spare, please visit

- No animals, just things I choose to work on because I find them
interesting and/or really important for the project.

- Glad you're asking :)

- It's this:
https://github.com/fablabnbg/inkscape-centerline-trace/blob/master/README.md

Just that it's currently still only accessible as that Inkscape
extension, but is planned to be included into Inkscape as a real part of
the trace dialog. The autotrace libraries are there already in the
Inkscape source, but not used.

- It's more 'CI for translation files'. So automatical updating of pot
and po files without requiring a dev to run the update script and commit
them.

> (3) ‘Tav has made it possible to wrap a one-line text object with an
> adjustable handle.’ Can you explain what it consists in?

- I haven't seen it yet, it's still in a separate branch that Tav is
working on. As I understand that sentence, it means that you click, type
your text, and then can use a handle to change its width and height and
it will reflow into the changed shape.

> (4) ‘[Tav] also worked on converting SVG 2 text to SVG 1.1 text for SVG

> I don’t understand this either…

- Conversion from SVG2 text to SVG 1.1 text and the other way around.

The Inkscape development version supports some of the features that will
(hopefully) be in SVG2 already, even though the SVG2 standard is not
officially released yet.

Export/compatibility to 1.1 text is needed because other renderers may
not be able to read SVG2 text properly (yet). Fortunately, having that
compatibility can be achieved by just having the SVG2 text specifics
wrapped around the SVG 1.1 text, and each version will ignore the
specifics for the other version.

> (5) ‘Thomas Holder (…) fixed remaining bugs for the y-axis desktop
> coordinate to match a top-down coordinate system (…).’ Can you explain?

- Origin in Inkscape is now in left upper corner, as it always was in
browsers, CSS, HTML, game development and most other digital imagery
applications (and in SVG). Before the merge, it was in bottom left
corner. Thomas fixed issues with 3D boxes and paint bucket, among other
things.

- Yes, I think the heading can be removed. I find the text looks a bit
better when it's not on the right of the photo, it seems more readable
to me.

- Actually, that was one of the fixes to the article I made - previously
it said exactly that. However, the other position is shared between Marc
(for merging) and Patrick (for announcing new versions to translators
and CI and merging) - at least to my understanding, and I only jump in
when I see there's a need, or when there's something I really want to
do. I really feel responsible only for website translations
coordination, for translating the program/website to German, and for any
pet projects I start.

[Inkscape-translator] Website: New news about Hackfest

2018-09-20 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi there, website translators,

we've got an awesome (very favorable to my work ;-) ) and incredibly
timely article about the Hackfest last week in Kiel, written by our
Vector-on-duty Chris Rogers, on the website.

If you want to know what happened, take a look :)
https://inkscape.org/en/news/2018/09/20/inkscape-hackfest-kiel-2018-what-happened/

If you want to help translate it - even better ;-)

I'll start working on the German translation tonight.

@Finlay: Do you have time for that FAQ / Report bugs stuff? Or should I
start with it, too?

Kind Regards,
 Maren

welcome :)

It's good that you want to work on the keyboard shortcuts list- it has
few translations at the moment, but is a very useful document.

Btw. I was surprised to find German words in Russian transcription in

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Just want to give help

2018-09-04 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi Giuseppe,

nice to meet you :) Italian would indeed be helpful!

The Inkscape program translations are currently at 88%, tutorials at
93%, keyboard shortcuts: 0%, man page: 0% - and the website is also
almost not translated at all, as far as I remember.

Do you already know what kind of contents you would like to start with?

I would especially like to see more Italian translations for the
keyboard shortcuts and the Inkscape program - but it's entirely your choice!

Let us know - and also tell us if you've got any questions or encounter
any problems!

Kind Regards,
 Maern

Hehe, yes, there's so much to do, it can be hard to choose :)

I agree, sometimes it makes sense to use the more commonly used term,
even if it is in English. Some languages put a lot of importance on
using their own, and some don't. It's important that the audience
understands what it's about and that it fits to their perception of
language.

Have fun translating, Ucok!

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Forking Inkscape on gitlab to work on translations

2018-08-25 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi Yaron,

I've joined Zanata as moini, and already had a little look around. It's
really awfully slow (on their servers, don't know what it would be like
on a local machine)! I was surprised to see they need to use alicdn...
(for their alpha editor). UI is a bit non-intuitive.

But I'd still like to see what settings one can make. Can you add me so
I can look around?

As for weblate, I've had a closer look at their hosted version, and
asked for explanations of what hosting means.

Michal, the author, explained to me that, currently, for the hosted
version, there is no admin access to the project at all, so I doubt it
would be something we could use for our various translation files,
branches, settings... and our translators who would like to have a
little more control over what gets in and what doesn't. Locally, the
amount of options is overwhelming, I still need some time to look into it.

As we now have the help of a person who might be willing to help us set
these things up (someone who does ansible and can make it work) plus our
own servers, self-hosting appears to be an option that is within reach...

Don't know what others think at all, I haven't gotten any feedback about
it yet.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

2018-08-25 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hello Ucok,

oooh, Indonesian! Yes, that would be good - we do not have too many
website visitors from Indonesia, but I know there are some quite large
user groups in your country. Maybe they would come more if it were
easier to understand for them?

Sylvain has a point, though, in that Indonesian translations of the
Inkscape program are fairly incomplete, and might also interest you.

If you would like to start with the website, start here:
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web-i18n

If you think you might want to try the Inkscape program itself first,
take a look here:

https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/master/po

Let us know how you would like to get started!

For any questions or problems, don't hesitate to send a message to this
list again, we're here to help.

Also if you encounter a word or phrase that doesn't appear to make
sense, you can ask. I've never seen people ask here for some weird
reason, but I know there are many things that are very unclear if one
cannot read the program code. I wouldn't mind to explain these, if
someone asked.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] Website: Updates to 'Around the Internet' page

2018-08-18 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi there,

Brynn has checked the 'Inkscape Around the Internet' page for dead
links, and found a couple of things that needed an update:

1. Multiple-Artist Collections > Wikimedia Commons -
Category:Created with Inkscape: Link and text changed

2. Multiple-Artist Collections > Museum of Sodipodi and Inkscape
About Screens is now a link to About screens on the Inkscape website.

3. A dead link (search for 'nojhan') has been removed.

4. The linke about nautical flags has been updated.

(the page requires updates in French, Portuguese and Brazilian
Portuguese. @Finlay: German is ready. It has no other translations.)

I hope I'm going to be able to start on paving the way for easier
translation of the Inkscape program, and everything that relies on po
files, during the Hackfest :)

@Yaron: I didn't forget, just didn't have the time to look into Xanata
yet. I will! (hopefully next week)

Kind Regards,
 Maren

[Inkscape-translator] Website: FAQ and Report Bugs updated

2018-08-08 Thread Maren Hachmann
Hi again, website translators!

Today, I'm asking for your help with translation of the following
changed pages:

1. New FAQ item added: How to reset user preferences (Item 19 in the
How-To questions section:
https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#how-reset-user-preferences )

2. The Report Bugs page has been completely rewritten:
https://inkscape.org/en/contribute/report-bugs/

#1 is a quick thing, #2 is quite a large chunk.

Thank you everyone!

@Finlay Thank you for your help with the news item! I did a quick review
yesterday, good work!
As I'm probably not able to do any translating until end of September,
it would be a big help if you could look at the above ones, too. It's
not urgent, though.

Kind Regards + Happy Translating,
 Maren

Hi Victor,

yes, it's cool that Christopher Rogers (CR) is planning to bring his
camera and equipment, and do some recording when he's not working on
Inkscape:
