Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and multiple sound cards

Rick, Jaws says it as I m I c u s b sound device, but because I can't
virtualised the window, or use the jaws cursor, I can't be sure I'm spelling
it right.

Hi Alex,
I have found the following:
Jaws will automatically take the last soundcard installed, and it will
go to that card when it loads as a service.
However, if you unload, and reload Jaws without specific parameters
it comes back and runs as an application, on the soundcard of your choice.
What is the name of the soundcard you want Jaws to use?

I'm using jaws 9, and I don't have jaws 8 anywhere. The strange thing is,
that when jaws is coming out of the headset after having auto-started
 after
boot up, if I close it and open it again it comes out of the speakers.

 Hi Alex,
If virtualizing the window isn't working for you, try this:
Once you have the audio device you want selected, try routing Jaws to PC,
and reading the string character-by-character, and type it that way in
 the
 .ini file.
If you want, I can send you a copy of my file off-list, so you can see
 how
 it is setup.

Rick, thanks for this, but I'm still having a problem. I'm finding it
 very
difficult to work out exactly what the string I need to copy from the
 audio
properties in control panel is. I can't virtualised the window, it says
there's no text, and the jaws cursor is finding nothing. Anybody got any
 ideas?

I've just bought myself a new usb headset. I've got everything set up
 pretty
much how I like it, so that skype comes out of the headset, and nothing
else. Unfortunately however when I reboot my machine and jaws starts
automatically, jaws speaks through the usb headset. If I go into
 control
panel, into sound and audio settings go to the audio page hit ok, and
 come
out of control panel, jaws then speaks through the speakers the way I
 want

 something
 in

Any help would be most welcome.

When using JAWS 10 and Outlook 2003 as I down- or up-arrow through the
folders in the Navigation pane, I am hearing the number of unread messages
being incorrectly reported. i.e. after reading all messages in my in-box as
I tab to the Navigation pane I hear in-box, one unread. I know this is not
the case. This occurs in all folders and the number can vary. Is there a way
to resolve this issue? I have heard this may be a bug in Outlook 2003. Is
anyone else having this problem?

This has been occurring in one form or another with JFW for the last four or

I do remember some posts that would fix the problem for about two days but
FS still hasn't come up with anything permanent. I don't remember it being

Outlook because I needed some of the calendar and contact features it

Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook

2008-11-24 Thread Don and Cher Bosch
I'm doing OK with 2003, but think that 2002 was a little less quirky. I
keep discovering little things about 2003- -like this weekend when InBox
messages suddenly were not there after closing/re-opening the program. I
think that something under view called 'show in groups' is probably checked
by default; and things would disappear/reappear when I would press Enter on
the group heading i.e. Today, Yesterday, etc. .. Just today I went
through all my folders and unchecked that sweet little setting to hopefully
make sure things stop doing that. Also when I delete messages in a folder
where 'group by conversation' is checked, other messages can suddenly appear
where the one was deleted. I remember that I liked some thing's about 2003
a little better when first installed- but can't remember any of them, for
the life of me, at the moment. Also, 2003 keeps running in the system tray
even when you close it. Oddly, my hot key won't re-launch it while it is
there, so it has to be re-launched by using the Icon or going to the start
menu. It will not re-launch from the system tray! HTH

Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook

2008-11-24 Thread Patricia Dunbar

Hmmm, it's not running in my systems tray 2003 that is...
When I installed it or just before it installed, it asked me if I wanted to
allow the install to update my current version of Office and I chose this
option, then right before it was done, it gave me the option to remove the
install files, but after routing the jaws cursor I read that it said to
allow them to stay as it would aid in the maintenance and updating if they
stayed in tack, but if I wanted to delete them it would free up 282/MB of
hard drive space. I opted to let them stay since my hard drive is 200/GB

I continue to use Outlook 2000 as well. In addition to your issue of
closing out, when I open a message and then select read all with JAWS often
it starts reading the message and then starts over again. How about with
you?

[JAWS-Users] the lame mp3 encoder

2008-11-24 Thread Andrew Head
Hi all,
I am trying to convert a file from ogg to mp3 using gold wave. I was told I had
to download an encoder. so I downloaded the lame mp3 encoder from the jaws
users website. when I went to the zip folder, I pressed enter on the file
called lame.exe
I got a message asking about extracting files. I did so and pressed enter on
the lame.exe file again. The program seemed to be installed, but when I went to
convert the file again, I got the same message that the I needed the mp3
encoder.
can someone help me out please?

I believe you need to place the lame DLL file in the same location as the
gold wave program itself.

Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook

2008-11-24 Thread David Ferrin
It does seem to read messages just fine for the most part. Honestly I don't
use it as much because of the close out issue. If that ever gets resolved
then I'll probably use it much more.

[JAWS-Users] Fire Fox and home pages

2008-11-24 Thread Larry Stansifer
Hi folks,

I recently installed Fire Fox 3.0.04 and the current version of Webvisum.
The issue is when selecting the Google accessible home page it does not stay
in my browser, the browser defaults back to the standard version of Google.
This certainly isn't the end of the world however it is annoying.
My machine is configured with XP-Pro and the current versions of Jaws 8 and
9.
Is anybody aware of a fix, work around, or more stable home page?
