Yes, it does. I tried SkypeTalking and it works with Skype 3.8 and
above. Sorry, I will re-phrase. I use SkypeTalking, and I tried it once
with 3.8 and it works fine. In fact, if any of you remember the Skype
Me! status; SkypeTalking will announce if someone is in Skype Me mode,
even if you're not using Skype 3.8.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws and windows 7 VM?

2010-04-30 Thread Mobeen Iqbal

Hi List.

I wonder if someone can help me with the problem i'm having. I'm testing
Windows7 using a program called VMPlayer, this allows people to test
operating systems from within windows or linux as a virtual operating
system before physical deployment. The problem i've got is with jaws
11.0.756. I've installed it successfully, but jaws freezes at random
times, and when it does, i get a blue screen of death. This does not
happen with NVDA or when jaws isn't running. The freezing problem also
occurs when jaws is running and i click on shutdown. My suspicions lie
with the mirror driver, is this the problem? I haven't heard of this
problem when installed as a normal installation, maybe its something to
do with the VMWare display component?

I've tried changing resolution, turning off visual effects, should i
disable 3D? i haven't tried installing direct X, but i didn't think jaws
used direct X at all? has anyone got any ideas what could make windows 7
freeze like that? I've also tried using the gineric windows7 graphics
adapter driver and completely removing the VMWare driver, but jaws still
freezes. I mentioned disabling 3D, don't quote me, but i'm not sure if
the gineric adapter driver uses 3D or not? I've checked online for
updates, driver updates included, no joy. Any help would be greatly
apreciated.

All the best,

Mo.

2010-04-30 Thread Donald Marang
Yes, you diagnosed that right. If you must use JAWS within the VM, deleting
the JAWS mirror display driver will allow JAWS to run without crashing. Of
course, much of the JAWS functionality will be lost.

in cell A2 is repeated in the default Jaws cursor voice.
This issue continues across the row a2 repeated in B2, C1

Being a student of the obvious, the jaws cursor is not

Re: [JAWS-Users] about norton

2010-04-30 Thread Mobeen Iqbal
Hi.

Yep, generally its down to people not renewing their subscriptions. I
just tend to put Malwarebyte's anti-malware on there as well along with
Avast, that solves many virus issues that people experience. Of course,
the latest versions of internet explorer and firefox also help, but it
also depends on the user's surfing habbits. If you're willingly going
to go to sites that are known to display many adds, filesharing etc,
then run peerblock to eliminate spyware and popups. A couple years
back, i had a system which had an infected DLL in windows\system32. I
tried a few online scanners and Live CD sollutions, but the only thing
that removed the virus was kaspersky. as long as you have an active
subscription with the checker you use, you're good to go, just my 2
cents worth.

Definitely. Well she's changing clients like I said earlier, so her
Outlook problems may be a thing of the past shortly. I'm encouraging her
to try Thunderbird as recently she's had problems starting Outlook. The
only way was to log in and delete her Outlook folder from her profile.
Rarely have I needed to do this with Thunderbird, so am recommending
that for her. Thanks for the thoughts though; greatly appreciated.

Hi

I doubt that a newer jaws version will help you.
This has to be sorted out by the web developer.
Tell them to label the graphics in the HTML code and jaws will speak that
value instead of graphic 786 etc.
Or you'll need sighted help to identify the graphics and label them using
Jaws.

Hi guys

I wonder if anyone can help? My credit card company has recently
implemented a new online security measure, unfortunately this new measure
is

a graphic. Apparently I just have to notice that this specific graphic is
being shown. I've not continued with the application so not sure what
would

happen if the graphic was different to the one I choose.

My problem is, jaws just says a number. I have tried to re label it but
to

no avail. jaws just cant see it.

I have contacted the company and they have tried to remove the so called
site key, but for whatever reasons they don't appear to be able to do
that.

I'm using jaws 9 at present and wondered if the later version of jaws had
a

way round this problem.

any help here would be appreciated.

thanks

Elaine

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 sluggishness

2010-04-30 Thread Shen Kuan
Hello,
Has anyone experienced the following issues with Jaws using Outlook
2007.
1. When I open a message to read, Jaws will pause and not respond for at
least 5 seconds before I can read the message.
2. When I open Tools and Customize, Jaws completely stops speaking.
3. While composing a message, Jaws does not respond consistently when I
press the backspace key. Meaning that when I press backspace key
repeatedly, Jaws responds with a jitter. Sometimes it speaks the deleted
character immediately, sometimes it lagged a second before saying the
deleted character.

Has anyone encountered any of these issues and whether you have been
successful in resolving these issues?
I have the same problems using Jaws 10 or 11. And it doesn't matter
whether I'm reading an html or plain text message.
Any suggestion is appreciated.

Sometimes, add ons can cause general outlook sluggishness. Also, if the pst
file gets too big, that can cause issues with the app. I did have problems
with delay in speech and sluggishness that you describe, but those were with
earlier versions of jaws. Using jfw 11, I can't say I've been experiencing
those performance issues.

I open messages in my browser and have to wait several seconds after
pressing the alt key before I hear the message tab on the ribbon announced.
Then there is another pause when I hit the appropriate key on my quick
access tool bar. It would be interesting to have someone watch the screen to
see if they could determine if the sluggishness is within Outlook 2007-
which I somewhat suspect- or whether JAWS is part or all of the problem. The
plain text messages certainly are more responsive, and I may change that
option someday and see if I can live with that any better.

Favorites Center

Internet Explorer 7 groups the Favorites list, Feeds list, and History list
into an area called the Favorites Center.

What You Hear When You Open Internet Explorer 7

When you first open the browser, JAWS announces the following items before
reading the page:

list of 4 items
. Application name
. Web page title
. Feeds, if supported by the page
. Number of frames, headings, and links
list end

A number of methods are available to read the Web page at this point. For
example, you can press TAB to go to the first link or control on the page,
or
press H or INSERT+F6 to navigate by headings, or press INSERT+F7 to navigate
by links, and so on.

Freedom Scientific has made a significant modification to Internet Explorer
keyboard functionality. In previous JAWS releases, the tabbing order in
Internet
Explorer always placed the address bar and tool bar first before any Web
page links. With JAWS 8.0, pressing TAB now takes you to the first link or
control
on the page, skipping over the address bar and tool bar. From a usability
stand point, this is much more efficient than previous JAWS releases.

Pressing SHIFT+TAB still allows you to move backwards to the tool bar and
address bar. Also, if you tab all the way through the page, JAWS will wrap
to
the address bar from the last element on the page as expected. This
functionality is part of the Internet Explorer design and has not been
altered by JAWS.

Note: If you tab into the numerous toolbars at the top of the IE page, you
will have to tab several times to find your way back out or make a list of
your open tabs and select the tab for the page you want to get back to.

New and Modified JAWS Keystroke Commands

The Jump to Cell command, CTRL+J, which appears in the Navigation Quick Keys
help topic and the JAWS Commands for HTML help topic, has changed. The new
command is CTRL+WINDOWS Key+J.

The CTRL+J command is now used to view the Feeds list in Internet Explorer
7.

The ALT+J command opens the Feeds menu in Internet Explorer 7.

The CTRL+E command moves focus to the Search box in Internet Explorer 7.

Next in the tour: Tabbed Browsing

Tabbed Browsing: An easier way to switch between Web sites

Whether you're searching the web, comparing prices, or just staying on top
of your favorite topic, Internet Explorer 7 lets you view many different
websites
at one time - all within one organized window.

Use the new tabs in Internet Explorer 7 to Browse, shop, and search multiple
websites at once

How to Use Tabbed Browsing
Launch Internet Explorer 7 and your home page opens in the first tab. To
view other sites at the same time, just click the new tab button (Control-T)
in the toolbar and then type the address of the site you want to visit in
the address bar. Your home page stays open in the first tab. Closing tabs

Re: [JAWS-Users] avast accessibility

2010-04-30 Thread Steve

Mo,

I had the same reticence prior to switching to MSE. But, I read several
articles comparing MSE at various virus testing labs not affiliated with
Microsoft. It rated as the best of the free programs and among the upper
group of commercial AV programs. Since it has an active spyware as well as
anti-virus, and since you can easily configure the scanning options, I am
feeling quite comfortable with this program.

Again, look at the reviews since this is a relatively new program within the
past eight months.

Lol. I never drempt when i posted the info about avast thatit would
create this much of an interesting discussion! There is no wrong or right
answer, this reminds me a little of politics verses religion, in the tech
world maybe there will never be an answer to a lot of things. Good for
you that you're using MSEE is all i can say, as i said each to his own.
The issue from anyone's security prispective should not necissarily be
accessibility though this does play a HUGE part, but also weather the
program actually is doing what its supposed to do. i haven't tried MSEE,
nor do i intend to, though perhaps i'll try it when i next have a machine
i'm not afraid of breaking in terms of the windows installation. The way
i see it, a good shield should keep the virus from getting in to your pc
in the first place, not clean it when its already infected! surely that's
logical? but yes, in the unlikely event that a virus has entered
someone's computer, it should be able to clean it as well. If microsoft
had a track record we could trust, i'd say excellent, they're a great
company with a great idea and i'd stick to them like glue. But
unfortunately, they don't, maybe we should all switch to linux to resolve
the dispute :) .

2010-04-30 Thread Steve

David,

I assume by a broadband USB stick, you are referring to a wireless adapter
that you can use by plugging it into your USB port.

It should work with Win 7. The main thing is make sure you get one that
supports your network features; some of the old ones don't support the newer
WPA2 standard.

[JAWS-Users] USB BROAD BAND STICK A.K.A. AIR CARD

2010-04-30 Thread Josh
To the user inquiring about the broadband stick or as I will call it the air
card. The air card I purchased and then returned before my thirty day trial
expired was accessible. However, there was a connect button before you could
get into the internet that sighted help was required. I only returned the air
card because tech support for the cellular company was not aware of a way to
fix this problem and I needed it for times that sighted help was not always
available.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 sluggishness

2010-04-30 Thread Melissa Riley
While I cannot say I have found a solution to these problems, I can say I've
experienced every one of them. I have tried making sure my old data is
routinely cleaned, emptying my temp files folder, and all other things I can
think of. Nothing seems to help. I've used both off-line as well as in-
brouser methods for viewing emails, as it is necesary sometimes, and that
seems to have no bearing on whether the program will respond with speed or
sluggishness.
I too am using JAWS 11, with Windows 7, and Outlook 07.
Warmly,
Melissa

Sometimes, add ons can cause general outlook sluggishness. Also, if the pst
file gets too big, that can cause issues with the app. I did have problems
with delay in speech and sluggishness that you describe, but those were with
earlier versions of jaws. Using jfw 11, I can't say I've been experiencing
those performance issues.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 sluggishness

Hello,
Has anyone experienced the following issues with Jaws using Outlook
2007.
