 Hello all.

this is confusing. I just yesterday fired an email request to FS tech
support simply asking for a date of release of the JFW 12 alpha version
 and
they responded saying FS management has not communicated this and it will

 be
some time in the near future. What is the disconnect here? this makes me
suspect the purported JFW12 release note by the fellow lister below. Can
someone from JFW management or whoever confirm the release of JFW12 alpha
and explain why tech support of FS is saying its going to be in the
future
 and not yet?

Re: [JAWS-Users] interesting issue

2010-10-22 Thread Sherri
I had the issue on my laptop when running my computer in battery mode. I
wondered if the settings were different enough that Jaws thought it was
running on an unauthorized machine. Anyway, I changed my battery settings,
but have not really tried it since. FS told me it might be something to do
with my bios settings.

I just downloaded WLM 2011 and Jaws 12 public 12.0.512. I am using windows
7 64 bit edition home premium. WLM feels a lot smoother with JFW 12
public(navigation with updown arrows). and speech seems more responsive as
well. but I do notice that Jaws does not announce whether a message is read
or not or whether it has attachments which is somewhat annoying. Also, Jaws
does not read all the fields in spellchecker, especially the field that
shows what it thinks is misspelled. Again, very annoying. Are these a WLM
2011 issue or a JFW 12 issue?

2010-10-22 Thread chris hallsworth
I love the virtual ribbon! Tried it with WordPad last night and it's
brilliant! I didn't know for example that I could set word wrap to wrap
to window or change a setting to hide the ruler. Without the virtual
ribbon I could easily have missed those features. Don't prove me wrong,
I can use the ribbons as they are, but like the JAWS help system says
due to how the ribbon is laid out from a usability standpoint one could
easily miss a group of settings without realizing. So the virtual ribbon
just makes navigation easier.

Hello.

I've just been listening to a recent FS podcast on JFW12 including the
demo of the JFW 12 virtual ribbon for MS office components. Recently I
saw a few listers bit discouraging of the virtual ribbon.

to me after listening to the demo I feel its awesome as it turns all
the ribbons and sub ribbons and the diff menu items within them to be
controlled simply with the up/down and right/left arrow keys just like
it used to be in Office 03. So if I activate the JFW virtual ribbon I
don't have to bother figuring out the tab, enter and arrow commands of
the Office 07/10 ribbon if I had the JFW virtual ribbon turned off.
Am I missing something or does the JFW virtual ribbon really turn
navigating and opening/closing all the menu items in the various
office ribbons into a process just like in old 03 menu bars?

definitely covered in detail and Eric even demonstrated how to use it by

I found a way through the JAWS startup wizard. You can also
do it
through Settings Centre. Just search for Virtual Ribbon
without quotes.

[JAWS-Users] Key echo with jaws 12

2010-10-22 Thread Glenn Lemacher
Hello all, I've down loaded Jaws 12 on my windows 7 computer and all is well
except my key echo settings. I like to have it set at letters and words, but
for the life of me I can only get it to speak words. With the insert and the
number two key I have it set to characters and words. In the settings center
for jaws 12 I also have it set for characters and words. I've also done a
insert V and set that for characters and words, but no go. Anyone out there
have any ideas on this.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 12 rocks!

2010-10-22 Thread Øyvind Lode

I wish I could say the same.
But I still have the annoying issues when using the Console (Cygwin) and
ssh into my Linux servers.

JAWS fails to read the Console properly.
This has been an issue since JAWS 11.

This makes it harder for me to do my job since I spend most of my time
in the Console.

JAWS is not reading the correct character when using the left/right arrows.
Most of the time JAWS speaks the previous character and some times skips
the character where the cursor is located.

Same goes for moving by lines.
I use the up/down arrows but JAWS is reading the previous line and also
skips some lines entirely.

I've been a long time jaws user and 3270 programmer. I've frequently had these
issues with numerous versions of jaws dating back many years. The best solution
I developed this was to experiment with different fonts to find the least
effected choice, then I wrote jaws scripts that controlled all effected
navigation keystrokes and placed pauses in the scripts to allow jaws to speak
properly.

This is just an idea so I hope the concept helps.

I found that when you entered on typing echo words it will change it for you.
I had a bit of trouble with that as well. So when you hear typing echo words
then you enter, and then it will say typing echo words and characters. If you
don't want that, then enter again. I tried the control shift d but it didn't
work until I went into the setting centre.

But there is much frustration...

I now do all my coding in a text editor.

Sorry for all the negativity but M$ can just go die smile

[JAWS-Users] jaws 12

2010-10-22 Thread Geno
I might be a little out of place. As far from being a expert. Yet, those
that might being having some issues that others have, Jaws has grown in
size, thus the memory of Ram that is needed. Consider the number of programs
that you have open and running and what they use and consider the size of
the jaws.. It took a while to get AAA tech people to look at and finally
seen what I was talking about and added the necessary Ram. As well what I
did with my computer here at home. Just an idea, Geno

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 12

2010-10-22 Thread David Ferrin
That's a very good idea in my opinion Gene. I know the first thing almost
every time after establishing a tandem connection I have to do is close no
less than 3 or 4 and up to 6 windows on the other person's system in order
to free up some resources. Also JAWS isn't the only program that has grown
in size over the years. Has anybody taken a look at office for example. I
mean we're talking a real beastly sized peace of software. Actually if I
tried hard enough I could most likely remember a system that had even more
windows open on it at the same time. Talk about a performance drag.

[JAWS-Users] skype failed a connection

2010-10-22 Thread Tatyana

Hello,
I need a help to deal with my Skype problem. I've tried some things but got
no results.

I have JAWS 10, Windows XP and Skype is currently updated.

Not sure why it happened, but recently, I tried to call from Skype to
Skype- every time the connection is failed.

Other user of my home computer, though, does Skype calls without problems-
when he logged in his mode (he can do it even with JAWS).

I uninstalled Skype talking, that was in my user mode, and even
reinstalled Skype itself- no result- every time I call or someone calls me-
it drops.

I went to Application data and cut and copy to other place files, that, I
thought, would be the JAWS scripts files for Skype. I didn't find the way
uninstalled JAWS scripts for Skype properly- so I just cut them from there.
I'm not sure if I cleaned them completely- well, it didn't help anyway.

I don't know what else I can do and in what direction I should think.
If anyone had that please help.

Thank you very much for any suggestions.

Tatyana.

How do you add a new contact in windows live mail with jaws 12? I really like

do a alt t and go to action. use down arrow to connection and check your
setting. Also try to check your firewall setting it might be not letting
skype connect. Also your antivirus program just in case.

[JAWS-Users] Using Jaws with Zoom-Text

2010-10-22 Thread Scorpio Forever
Hi Folks,

A friend of mine is looking to use Jaws with Zoom Text, but he's not sure if he
can make it work.

Is anyone on the list successfully using Jaws with ZoomText, and if so, could
you please share your settings so that I know how I should let her know to
configure each piece of software?

Thanks all, and I look forward to any responses.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using Jaws with Zoom-Text

2010-10-22 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Scorpio,

I use JAWS with ZoomText for some of my clients. We use ZoomText 9.1 and
JAWS 11 or 12. ZoomText needs to be started before JAWS. If JAWS is
running and ZoomText is started then ZoomText detects the presence of JAWS
and won't work correctly. It seems important to have JAWS running first.
After starting ZoomText, (if ZoomText with speech is being used), the speech
part of ZoomText can be disabled using the toggle keystroke of Alt+shift+S.
I have used JAWS with a few different configurations of ZoomText without any
problems. I have not used it for any higher magnification power than about
6X. We haven't really had any trouble with using varying cursor, focus,
pointer enhancements, etc.

Take care.
