[JAWS-Users] Microsoft Excel Freezing A Row
Hi friends, I have a row at the top of my spread sheet which is a phone bill and I want to freeze this row as headings so it doesn't become involved in my sorts etc and always stays at the top. I have searched Google and they say that you need to click the first item in the row then there is an option to freeze the row but I am not sure if they are referring to a mouse click, is there a keyboard way to achieve this please? Many thanks in anticipation for any help, Steve. This message may contain confidential information. [JAWS-Users] daily information
Daily Tip: Word: Clear Formatting The more you get to know Word 2010, the more you'll explore its formatting options. There are tons of small customizations you can make, and it's easy to find yourself so far from your original settings that you wish you could simply undo everything. You may well be able to do just that with the Undo button on your Quick Access Toolbar, but if not, select the text or objects in question and then click the Clear Formatting button, which is in the Font group of the Home tab. If the original still isn't what you're looking for, that Undo button will come in handy. Daily Term: unprintable character A hidden command in a document that will not be printed when the document is sent to the printer, because it usually represents formatting commands that tell the program to perform functions such as return and indent. Examples of these characters include the TAB, ENTER, ALT, and CTRL keys. Stephen, Thanks, will check this out. When I sort data, I always use the custom sort option where it has a check box to check if your spreadsheet has a header row you do not want involved in the sort. Is the way your co worker described below produce the same result or does it have additional merit? [JAWS-Users] scripting
Hi, I am finally going to do it! Well not all of it because this book I found has a crap load of information. What pointers/recommendations would a person have for the person who is starting to learn scripting? I quickly skimmed through it and there are a couple of small scrips of which they want us to put together but mainly can I potentially mess something up? Lol, this is still a new laptop I have and I would hate to kill it already. Thanks. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] scripting
Hi The worst thing I have seen writing scripts is that you can put your script into a never ending loop, which will make JAWS respond very very slowly. You usually have to kill JAWS and restart it. But then you can fix or delete the offending script. Often in a script that needs to loop a few times, I'll put a safety counter in the loop and increment or decrement it and when it hits the limit, get out of the loop immediately. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Bissett, Tom Sent: Tuesday, January 24, 2012 12:50 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] scripting Hi, As long as you only alter or create scripts in your personal directory and don't modify anything in the default [all users] directory you won't mess anything up. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Not Shutting Down
I am using windows 7 64 bit on a Toshiba Satellite A665 laptop with latest Jaws 13.638. I experience a similar problem every once in a while and have not figured out why it happens or when it will occur. I have to do a forced shut down by holding down the power key and then restarting the computer. This usually works but sometimes I require sighted assistance because windows will not start properly and requires clicking the mouse on the appropriate command to get it to start. then Jaws will start normally. Can be annoying when I am alone and sighted help is not available but I've learned to live with it. It is so sporadic I haven't reported it to Freedom Scientific tech support because I really don't know what to say. I'm currently using Jaws 13 on my computer and am experiencing a problem. Every once in awhile, when I shut my computer off, Jaws doesn't shut down properly and my computer just hangs. I try to turn Jaws back on so I can shut my computer down but am unsuccessful. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, can I fix it? Thanks. Re: [JAWS-Users] McAfee sitead?
Thanks all for the help. I think the annoying message was a way to tell me my subscription was running out. Since I had already renewed the subscription on another pc, I was covered for this pc but had to reinstall the program. Re: [JAWS-Users] Scan to text?
Just as we blind folks do: by using a scanner and ocr software and then either paste the text into an email or sending you the accessible document as attachment. Most scanners come with some kind of ocr tthat is not necessarily accessible but would get the job done for a sighted person. Office 2k3 and earlier came with Document Imaging', which was actually a fairly decent and accessible ocr solution hth Doris At 09:10 PM 1/24/2012 -0500, you wrote: How can a sighted person scan a text document, on their pc, and send it to me via e mail so that JAWS can read iton my pc?
