mariea, you can get a simular effect to shutting down your computer and unplugging the drive by putting the comp in sleep mode and turning the drive off. i've also found that unless the drive was activly formatted if you have the indexing feature turned off you can usually get a disconnect by using the system tray "safely remove hardware" option take care, elf . Re: [JAWS-Users] large PDF file
Flor has a point, You should ask the person if they could send it to you in either a word document or text. The document is not likely produced in pdf format but rather saved in pdf format. I see that all the time these days. I think persons feel it is better to save in pdf than protecting a document. So if the person could send it to you in its native format it would likely be more usable. Re: [JAWS-Users] large PDF file
Brad, The Kurzweil Virtual Printer doesn't "PRINT" the document. In essence, what it does is virtually recognize the document by placing each page on a virtual scanner and recognizing it. Therefore, when it is done, you have a document that has the same number of pages as the regular document. If there are some preface pages, then you may need to re-number subsequent pages to match what your cohorts are reading, but if they just take everything in order, then you can proceed from page to page. But, you are not generating a printed copy, you are just accessing the .pdf. When you have it in Kurzweil, you can use the Kurzweil search capabilities if you need to find specific text strings. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. I have thunderbird also running on this machine. My wife uses it for her email. When it was opened a message that the software update failed. I closed and when opened again received the same message. I restarted the computer and again received the software update failed. Is there anywhere where I can try to force an update. I could not locate a check for update option.
