I'm not saying that everyone should run out and download Fire Fox and start
using it exclusively. I have both browsers on my machines.

A week or so ago, I was trying to get into some site and the audio CAPTCHA
was absolutely impossible. I tried many times to listen to it, cranked up
the volume, but no joy.

I didn't have FF on that particular box. It took me less than 15 minutes to
download FF, install it, add the WebVisum plug-in, and kick some CAPTCHA
butt. FF is not some big scary, completely unfamiliar program.
It works a whole lot like IE.

Another little story. A buddy of mine is experimenting and learning a new
to him web programming language called AJAX. He wanted to make sure that
his final product would be accessible to me. He wrote a very basic little
web page and asked me to check it out. IE is my default browser and I went
over to the page but couldn't make it do what he expected. He tried it on
another machine, without adaptive tech, and using IE. No joy for him
either. So, I fired up fire fox, went to the page, and it behaved perfectly
well.

It's always good to have multiple tools in your tool box. Even if you just
install FF to defeat the occasional CAPTCHA, better to have that available
than to not get passed a stupid CAPTCHA when you need to.

While WebVisum is grand, and i use it myself, there are some 'secure'
web sites that don't accept the presence of WebVisum or such an add-on
and won't reveal their CAPTCHA solution to it. there's also this dynamic
CAPTCHA code, which changes every few minutes. webVisum can deal with
that ok. the Azavia solution is, to my mind, slow or too slow.

Flexible web is really a matter of thinking about how to tell JAWS
where it needs to be or alternatively, what it needs to hide. While it
takes a little time to set things up in the beginning, the results are
well worth it in the end. I have flexible web rules now for all of my

When you open Google you should automatically be positioned at the
search field because the focus is forced there, and JAWS respects
forced focus edit controls. So, you don't need to use flexible web to
do anything there - simply visit google.com and your cursor should be
placed on the edit field. Depending on your verbosity settings you may
hear press ENTER for forms mode, or if auto forms mode is set to on
then you should be placed in forms mode automatically and can begin
 typing.

The search results pages are a different matter though. Search for
something on Google and move into the search results. Then create a
new flexible web rule with JAWSKey+SPACE, X. The Create a new
customization radio button should already be selected, so hit ENTER
to move on. You don't want to hide anything, you want to start reading
somewhere; so select the second radio button on the next page and hit
ENTER. Now it's asking where exactly you want to be placed. There
should be various options, but the search results are all in a list so
the list option will most likely do the trick. On the next screen,
start at any list with ID = reso should do the trick. This should be
a consistent ID for all the lists containing Google search results. So
select that option and hit ENTER to activate the finish button..

Now we need to save that rule. Hit JAWSKey+Space, X again to enter the
flexible web settings, and select the Save temporary customizations
as a rule radio button. Enter any name you want for this rule and
make sure the customization you just made is checked in the list of
customizations that will form part of this rule. Since you've only
created one, it should be the only one in the list of customizations
 and it should be checked.

There's nothing else you need to change here. You want this applied
whenever a Google search results page is loaded, and the default
option is to apply your rule to the current site. So just hit ENTER to
 finish.

Bingo, now whenever you search on Google you should automatically be
in the list of results. Give it a shot and let us know if you need
further clarification on this very cool feature.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I am trying to learn flexible web.

2012-10-24 Thread Becky Buckner

Hi Grant.
When I try to set Flexible Web to start reading where it says search
results, I get this message:

JAWS
The URL for the current page contains an anchor. The anchor is the part
of the URL after the path, and it starts with the number symbol (#). Web
page authors use anchors to direct the reader's attention to a specific
area on a page. When an anchor is part of a URL, JAWS moves the
starting position of the virtual PC cursor to the place indicated by the
anchor. When this happens, Flexible Web won't be able to start reading
based on your customizations. You can still create a customization here
because the customization you create can still apply to the current page
without the anchor, to the current site, or globally. Just remember that
for URL's with anchors, your start-reading rules will not have an effect.
OK

I don't understand what this means.

Hi Folks,

A friend and I are in the midst of starting a new blog, and though it has
nothing to do with accessibility, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good
Jaws friendly blogging sites I can work with?

The simpler the better, and please, no one suggest Twitter or Face Book, I

Anyway, if anyone knows of one, I'd greatly appreciate hearing about it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] putting a volume control on the desk top

2012-10-24 Thread inthaneelf
I don't know if you got an answer or not so here one is:
 1. press windows key and type the following in the search field: SndVol
2. wait until you hear your screen reader read the first item wich is
SndVol and hit the application key.
3. find the send to submenu with up/down arrows and open it with right
arrow.
4. Up arrow a few times until you hear desktop create a short cut or
something similar and hit enter. I am not sure what it is called in
english as i am using a french version of windows.
5. now go to your desktop and locate the shortCut you've just created
and press alt lus enter. When properties dialog open, keep tabbing until
you land on an edit field that asks you to choose a hotkey. Press the
combinition of keys that you want and hit enter.

Now, whenever your volume is muted somehow, You just press the hotkey
and wait for a short while, then you hit the home key once and
everything will be back in order. I hope this will work for you

Sounds like a service to bookmark just in case! But I can't remember
the last time I ever had problems with Webvisum. It's fast, free, high
quality and most importantly, automated.

I only wish companies like Webvisum would let us download offline
versions of the Captcha solver, but I suppose that could lead to
possible abuse and I can also totally see that it makes sense to keep
us in the Webvisum ecosystem.

It's quite automated, but not 'totally'. You can't do just as many
captchas as take your fancy in a short timespan. There is human
oversight at least much of the time. It doesn't work well with the Eset
Smart Security purchase site, 256-bit encryption, where there is a

You're right, it limits the amount of Captchas you can solve and it
doesn't work everywhere.

By human oversight do you mean that at certain times humans actually
do solve the Captchas? When I said that it was automated, I meant that

Re: [JAWS-Users] Installed latest Firefox. Now how do I installWebvisum?

2012-10-24 Thread Mike B.
Hi Prateek;

I can't help you with your second question since I run a much older version
of Firefox but, try the steps below to get Webvisum going for you.

Once you have Firefox open, you need to go to the Web Visum website
download the Web Visum add-on.  To do this do the folowing;
1. Open Firefox press control +L, for a new web page.
2. Type in, webvisum, press control + enter.
3. You will be on the Webvisum home page. Now, arrow down you wil hear
Jaws read the following.

Heading Level1Download the WebVisum Firefox extension.

Current version: 0.9

Once you click on the add on installation link below, Firefox will notify
you that it has prevented the add on from being installed and will prompt
you
to Allow the install to occur. Press ALT+A when you get this message and
allow the installation to proceed.
Note: you might have to tab 1 time to the, Install button, press enter to
install the download.

Now that you are ready,
Link, install the WebVisum extension.

Should you need any help with this procedure, please let us know via the
Contact Us page. The installation procedure will be simplified in the near
future.

4. When you click on the download link follow the directions that are
given, the add-on installs within a few seconds. You need to close Firefox
reopen it. After you open Firefox, press alt + T, for Tools, arrow down
the list to see if you hear, Webvisum submenu. If Webvisum is there., the
webvisum add-on has been installed.

If you would like Webvisum to Log-in automatically do the following;
1. Open Firefox press Alt + T, for tools.
2. Arrow down to webvisum submenu press enter.
3. Arrow down 1 time to preferences press enter.
4. You will be on the General page so, now tab through to make your
selections. Press the spacebar on okay to save your changes close
preferences.

When you open the webvisum submenus you can down passed preferences to see
what other options are in here. After you open preferences, you can arrow
down to see what other options there are, other than General.

Hope this helps. Take care.

You do not need an invite to register with webVisum. You can do a self

3: click on create an account

You should be good to go from there.
