Re: [JAWS-Users] viper antivirus
Yes Rosario, Vipre 2016 is very compatible with Jaws. Many people stated that they have had problems with the past couple of versions being Jaws compatible, but I have not had a problem in getting the program to work, however, the new version is much more easier to use. Hi Mike, I called the Freedom Scientific Sales department to have this done. I paid them right over the phone, and a couple of days later I received my invoice/receipt in the mail. [JAWS-Users] Computer sound dipping with Jaws 17
Hello list, I dont know if others are experiencing this with the new Jaws or if it was something that was present during the beta. I downloaded and installed Jaws 17 yesterday on my Dell Vostro laptop Windows 7 after wrapping up business for the week and one thing Im immediately noticing is that the sound (when Eloquence speaks) dips every now and then. This was not an issue with JFW 16 and Im pretty sure I didnt deal with it in JFW 15, but I do recall encountering this problem a while back. I remember it was a pain and it took me forever to resolve it. Also, it doesnt seem to be preset when using my headset. The only thing different on my machine since dealing with this sound issue is the new Jaws 17. Im almost hopeful that others will say that they too are having the same problem because Id really hate to have to go back and figure out how I got rid of this problem last time since again, it was so long ago and wasnt exactly easy if memory serves. I usually participate in the beta cycle, but this year, I passed so this is why Im not entirely sure if its Jaws. Im still running JFW 16 on my desktop and dont have this sound fluctuation with it. Re: [JAWS-Users] beware-Microsoft-plans-to-push-windows-10-on-seven and eight users
I'm with Jim on this one. I have to acknowledge that Windows 10 has boosted the performance of my 7 year-old clunker quite nicely. That's not to say there aren't bugs with Jaws and Windows 10, but as with previous versions of Jaws and Windows, we have to simply make due with what we have, and find alternative ways of doing what we want until Freedom Scientific comes around with an update that fixes the problem. Having said that Gerald, where are you seeing all the complaints from current Jaws users grieving about upgrading to Windows 10. I've heard nothing but positive remarks about Windows 10, and though some of it's features are unwelcome, such as no say over what updates to install, or some other things I haven't quite gotten the hang of yet, I've seen all the positives Windows 10 has to offer. In Gerald's favour though, I have to admit the parallels to various high tech horror movies where computers all over the world are forced to install a certain operating system, only to have the operating system launch nuclear warheads, killing off half the population of the world, then using the video screens, enslaving the rest of the population to keep it's machines running, meanwhile, a small but dauntless band of computer users and hackers, mostly blind because they couldn't see the video screens, use Jaws to undermine the operating system and bringing it down. I mean, how many horror movies have we seen like this? LOL. Anyway, I don't think you have a right to complain about something, without having tried the something you're complaining about Gerald, otherwise you become one of those religious televangelists who condemn shows and movies without actually having watched the shows or movies they're condemning. [JAWS-Users] TuneIn radio playing video
Hi, I have been having a problem listening to the World Series on TuneIn Radio. While the game is playing a window with a video is popping up and playing. The audio from the video is playing along with the game I'm trying to listen to. I pause the video and press "done" to go back to the "now playing" screen. A second or 20 later the video pops back up and plays again. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

The price from Threat Track Security, the makers of the software is not really that bad however, so I would check with them first to see what their price is currently. Re: [JAWS-Users] beware-Microsoft-plans-to-push-windows-10-on-sevenand eight users
Is that so? Microsoft has a special, dedicated hot line just for JAWS users of Windows 10? Please provide this number, if you don't mind. I know they have an accessibility hot line, but I was not aware that they also have another hot line just for JAWS users. And if Windows 10 is so wonderful, why are so many users on other lists complaining about it and inquiring about how to roll back to Windows 7? And if I attempt to install Windows 10 and screw up my computer in the process , MS will send a technician to my home to fix it if I explain to them that I am blind and do not have sighted help on hand? Re: [JAWS-Users] Quick Access in W-10
This is new to w-10. This took the place of the Favorites bar at the top of the file tree view. In older operating systems, When you had your C: drive highlighted, and did a Shift+tab, you had the Favorites up top, where as now you have Quick access. Best way I can explain it. Re: [JAWS-Users] I need a step by step guide on how to set up a group in outlook 2010.
Jim, The below worked when I was using 2013 and it worked well; but I believe it will work for you in 2010, give it a try. George Adding a New Contact Group (Formerly Distribution List) Adding a contact group is very similar to adding a new contact. Here's how to do that if you would like to try it. 1. From the main Outlook 2013 window, press CTRL+SHIFT+B to open the Address Book. 2. Press ALT + Foxtrot to go to the File menu, and then choose New Entry. The New Entry dialog box appears. 3. Choose New Contact Group in the list view and press ENTER. An untitled Contact Group appears with focus in the Name edit box. --- 4. Type in a name for the contact group. 5. On the ribbon, go to the Members group and choose the Add Members button. You can press TAB to move to it and press ENTER on it. A menu appears with the following choices: o From Outlook Contacts o From Address Book o New E-mail Contact 6. Choose From Address Book and press ENTER. The Select Members Global Address list opens. 7. Make sure to choose the Search radio button for Name Only, not More Columns. --- 8. Press TAB to move to the search edit box and begin typing someone's name you are looking for. The list view below scrolls to match what you type. 9. Press TAB to move to the extended list box and use ARROW KEYS up or down to select the person. 10. Press ENTER to add that person to the group of members. Focus returns to the search edit box. 11. Repeat steps 8 through 10 to select other members. 12. To complete the process, press TAB to move to the OK button, and then press ENTER. Focus returns to the Contact Group dialog box, which now should have the name you gave it. 13. Press ESC to close it. You are asked if you want to save the changes, answer Yes. The new contact group is saved and focus returns to the Address Book. 14. Press ESC to close the Address Book. @txt.att.net @vzwpix.com @messaging.sprintpcs.comtmomail.net @tmomail.net @vmobl.com If I continue to do the same things I have always done and am believing for change in my life That is a form of insanity! [JAWS-Users] Quick Access in W-10
Hi Jaws users list. I am enjoying playing with Customizing W-10, here is a new discovery. I just discovered the pinning of items to the Quick access, and pinning this quick access shortcut to the Start area. I will do an audio tutorial on this next week. For example: Press Enter on your, This PC icon on the Desktop. Go down to your C: drive, highlight it, do not press enter. Shift+Tab, to the, This PC treeview. Press the Home key, to go to the top. You will hear, Quick Access open or closed. While you are on that, press the Application key, go down to, Pin to Start, press Enter. So, as you go down through your computer items in this treeview. On any drive, folder, file, and other stuff, highlight an item you wish to add to Quick access, press the Application key, go down to, pin to quick access, press enter. So, you can have a list of many shortcuts to Drives, folders, files and other stuff pinned to Quick access. You can pin Quick Access to the Start area, this automatically, makes a group header called Quick Access under your live tiles region. Press enter on the Quick access shortcut, in the start area, this will open a list of everything you have pinned to Quick access. You can use first letter navigation in this list, very handy, and a fast way to get to all your important things on your computer from one list. This is fantastic! another way to personalize your W-10 computer. [JAWS-Users] sleep mode in windows 8.1
Thanks Gerald I will try this the next time it happens Re: [JAWS-Users] sleep mmode in windows 8.1 Your computer may not have necessarily entered sleep mode when you tried to shut it down normally. Sometimes, as I have discovered on my Windows 7 desktop, when you shut down your computer, it will exit Window, but the power will not shut off. And because there is no sound coming through the speakers after the computer has exited Windows, you may think that it has shut down completely when in fact, the power is still on. This can happen occasionally when an open program prevents the computer from completing the normal shut down process. The only way to know for sure that your computer has shut down normally is to wait a minute or two after you have initiated a normal shut down, and if you can still hear or feel the internal cooling fan running, or if the tray for the DVD drive still opens and closes when you press the eject button, then the power is still on. If this is the case, try pressing Alt-F which will usually force any open programs to close so that the power can shut off. Of course, there will be no keyboard echo because there is no sound. If this doesn't work, then you need to press and hold the power button on the front panel to force the computer to completely shut down. It should not be necessary to unplug it. Re: [JAWS-Users] beware-microsoft-plans-to-push-windows-10-on-seven andeight users
It's hard to say for sure. Some Windows 7 and 8 users have already claimed that they were updated automatically to Windows 10 without their knowledge, and they were none too happy about it. MS insists that this was an "accident", but given their track record of engaging in heavy-handed business practices, nobody really believes that this was merely an "accident" and not a deliberate act. So who knows what they will do in the future. [JAWS-Users] copying Jaws settings from one version to another
Hello list, So I do this every year. I promise to this time save the instructions Downloaded the JFW 17 and now, I would like to copy over certain settings files like the various dictionary managers, Flexible Web, etc. from 16 to 17. I vaguely recall that one has to go into the ENU folder and copy and paste, but am not quite sure since I only do this once a year. Could someone refresh my memory? Again, Ill be sure to save the steps this time. Thanks, For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[JAWS-Users] Clarification about title of guide
Hi Jaws Users group. The file I added yesterday called, Customizing the Start area in Windows 10, is totally different then the file called, Customizing Windows 10 with Jaws complete guide. Please be aware of the title line. Just like my audio tutorials, same title with a 1, 2, or 3, after the title, Part 1, part 2, and part 3. The Start button, which has been included again in w-10, is so important, that it needs it’s own guide. In my opinion, this is the greatest single improvement to w-10. Just by pressing the Windows key, you are put into the main Search edit box, where you can search for anything on your computer in seconds just by pressing a few letters. Also, Just by using the Up and Down, and Left and Right arrow keys, you have access to the following. The Search edit box. Your account. All Apps, a list of all Apps and programs on your computer. The Power button, Restart, shut down, and sleep. All your live tiles, updated in real time. Places list box, a list of folders, Documents, downloads, Personal folder, this is your User folder with all your folders. Quick access, A list of all pinned items, you have pinned to the quick accexx under file explorer, this can include anything from files, folders, programs, Drives, or anything else on your computer. You can pin a shortcut for quick access which shows up in your live tile region of the Start area. This is fantastic!, if you just want to look around in the Start area, the Windows key is a toggle as well, pressing just the windows key, both opens and closes the Start button area. So, I do not know why so many people are afraid of upgrading to w-10, this one improvement The Start button, itself is worth updating to W-10. Not to mention, the over all stability and convenience of W-10, right from the start, totally accessible with all screen readers, an improved narrator built in screen reader. Sure, it has it’s quirks', the edge browser is not going to be ready until next year, but Internet Explorer works great in the mean time. W-10, blows away W-7, W-8, and W-8.1, and anything before those versions!. So, the guide yesterday explains how to pin any App or Program, to the Start area or to the Taskbar, for easy access. How to make Desktop shortcuts for any program on your computer. So, be aware of these things when looking at the resource list of audio and TXT tutorials on the OneDrive page. My hope is that these tutorials, will help you to become more independent and confident in using your W-10 computer. I know that learning the computer in 2008, opened up many windows of opportunity for me, and changed my life for the good. So, it’s a blessing for me, to be able to share about how to do things on a W-10 computer with you. I regret that I did not take the time to learn the computer years ago. So, it’s time to make up for lost time. Also, time for, More Cofieieieieieieieieofieieieieieieieieieofieieieieieieieieieofieieieieieieieieofieieieieieoffee! I hope everyone has a great weekend... Hi Jo Anne, Yes, call Freedom Scientific on this one. It sounds like you have a really nasty license problem going on there, and they should be made aware of it to help you fix the problem. I went to the page to activate it and the page found it just fine. Then it gave me another code to use, and not sure why this other code was given but I tried activating my license pasting the original key and also trying this generated one but it keeps giving an error message that it doesn't recognize the code. Re: [JAWS-Users] viper antivirus
Hi Rosario, No, actually, I got the deal on the Vipre software when I bought as a package deal with a laptop computer that I purchased. I was buying the computer andid not even know about the Vipre deal until the sales person told me about it, and I said "What the heck", and this is how I became a devout Vipre user. The price from Threat Track Security, the makers of the software is not really that bad however, so I would check with them first to see what their price is currently. Hi Christopher, You should use the Facebook mobile website: www.m.facebook.com, The interface is much easier to navigate, and the features for setting up and maintaining a page are very Jaws user friendly. This is what I use to maintain a page for an organization that I am involved with as well. hth. I am in the process of setting up a Facebook page for a group I'm involved in and have a couple of questions. Is it possible to accessibly invite friends to like my page? I know you could do this under JAWS 15, but the tab doesn't seem to be accessible with JAWS 16 or 17 using either Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 11. Also-I need to change the mailing address on the page; this seems to be a clickable element under Page Info that won't activate properly. Again, this is under JAWS 16 latest build as well as JAWS 17 with IE and Firefox. I know Freedom Scientific did a Webinar on JAWS 16 with Facebook, so maybe I need to buy and review that before posting to the list. Any guidance would be appreciated.
