Hi Kimsan,

Try the following:
Note: If you want to make these settings in a particular application /

2. Press, Control, Shift, + D, to open Setting Center default all
applications.
3. Arrow down to, Text Processing, & right arrow to open.
4. Arrow down 1 time to, Number & Date Processing, & right arrow to open.
Note: If you want the date to read correctly when it's in a number format,
arrow down 1 time to, Numeric Date Processing, press the spacebar to toggle
through your options, & stop when Jaws reports, Some Translation.
5. Arrow down 1 time to, Number Processing, press the spacebar to toggle
through the options. Stop when Jaws reports, Controlled By Synthesizer.
6. Arrow down to, Speak Single Digits, right arrow to open, arrow down to,
If Number Contains, press the spacebar to toggle through the options, & stop
when Jaws reports, Controlled By The Synthesizer.
7. Arrow down to, If number contains dashes, this box needs to be checked.
8. If you want dollar & cents amounts reported correctly, arrow down to,
Speak Dollars, & make sure this box is checked.
9. Tab to, Apply, press the spacebar, tab to, Okay, press enter to save your

Try this.

F2 to Settings Center.

Arrow to text processing. right arrow and down to number and date
processing. Right arrow and down to number processing. Right arrow and
down to speak single digits. Right arrow to open. I set t speak single
digits at numbers 7 digits or more and never want to hear the hyphen.

Doing this you should hear seventy thousand.
To finish back out and arrow down to OK and hit enter.

[JAWS-Users] Moving and renaming a file in a single operation

2017-03-29 Thread Jason White
The F2 command in File Explorer allows me to rename a file, but it won't let
me specify a new path (i.e., a different directory) for the file while I'm
renaming it. I have to rename the file first, then use Ctrl+c to copy, then
switch to the destination directory in File Explorer and type Ctrl+v to paste
the file there.

Is there a faster way to do this? Normally, I would just type a move-item (mi)
command in PowerShell, but in this case I'm trying to look at the contents of
the individual files, then move and rename them, which is a lot easier in File
Explorer. There isn't a pattern to the names, so I can't just write a simple
PowerShell command to do it with wildcards.

Hi Mike,

I'm afraid you're getting bogged by that one line.

If you take away that one line, what are you left with?

You're original question was if there is a central place to place *.ini
files, and if so, will the programs know to look for them there.

My answer to that was that *.ini files do not belong in one central place,
as they are placed all over your computer.

For example, you'll find *.ini files inside the Windows folder, the
C-Cleaner folder, to use your example, and various other folder, depending
on your computer's make up.

You cannot move a *.ini file from it's centralized program location and
expect the program to find it.

I honestly do not know what happens when you move a program's *.ini file.

In the case of Jaws, just to use an example, when you delete the default.ini
file from your Jaws settings folder, Jaws simply re-creates that file using
Jaws default settings, which means once that file is deleted, you have to
re-configure to your tastes.

Can I say with any definitive sureness that other programs do the same, no,
but I can that that each program on your computer contains, at least, one
*.ini file.

Hopefully, that explains my explanation. Smiles.

Hi Scorpio,

Okay, this is what you said, "they don't actually belong in any one place on
your computer." So, if they don't belong any place in particular, what am I
missing? I'm under the impression that if a particular program, as i
suggested with CCleaner, needs the particular .INI file, that .INI file
should reside in that particular program's folder whether that program is in
Program Files or Program Files X86 on the root of the operating system
drive. As I stated earlier, I'm not trying to argue with anyone but, it
sounds like a .INI file serves more than 1 purpose depending on what that
purpose might be. Is this a fair assumption? Thanks much.
Take care.

Hi Mike,

I think you misunderstood my message.

The initialization file does not belong in any one spot, in other words, you
can not put it anywhere and the program will find it, so, to use your
example, if you were to put the initialization file for C-Cleaner in your
documents folder, I honestly don't know what would happen to C-Cleaner when
you tried to launch it.

I do know, however, that the C-Cleaner program will coded to look for the
initialization file within the C-Cleaner folder. Not sure if that's in the
Program files, Application Data, or somewhere else on your C drive, but yes,
each program is coded/written to look for specific files it uses in it's own
directory, and not, for example in your documents folder.

Hope that makes what I said clearer.

Okay, being the INI file holds the settings for a program, that's why I
assumed it was supposed to go in the program's folder on the root of the C
drive, or whatever the letter designation would be for the operating system.
So, let's use CCleaner as an example. If I put the CCleaner.INI file in my
Documents folder, would CCleaner still be able to access the settings, since
an .INI file doesn't belong anywhere specific? I ask this because, using
CCleaner again as an example, if I change the settings in CCleaner on 1
computer, & want our other computers to use the same CCleaner settings I
copy the .INI file from the 1 computer & paste it into the CCleaner folder
on the other cleaners. So, from what you're saying that .INI file can go
anywhere instead of the CClener folder? Please, I'm not challenging you,
but just trying to get .INI files straight in my head. Thanks much.

I think the content is findable with Jaws but you may need to use a
combination of techniques in order to find it. Maybe some of these:
the N key to find pieces of text which don't contain links
The Virtual Find, Control F, you could search for words from the link
or, just good ol' down arrow lots of times.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like these are the kind of links that JAWS verbalizes as something
like, "Same page link." They can be confusing. One method that often works
in such cases is to note the wording in the link, then search for some or
all of that search string to take you to the relevant part of the page.

Smiles.

I think you misunderstood my message.

The initialization file does not belong in any one spot, in other words, you
can not put it anywhere and the program will find it, so, to use your
example, if you were to put the initialization file for C-Cleaner in your
documents folder, I honestly don't know what would happen to C-Cleaner when
you tried to launch it.

I do know, however, that the C-Cleaner program will coded to look for the
initialization file within the C-Cleaner folder. Not sure if that's in the
Program files, Application Data, or somewhere else on your C drive, but yes,
each program is coded/written to look for specific files it uses in it's own

you get to Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series 2017 Martinsville Race info page.
Then if you arrow down until you land on a link of some story and press the
enter key. The information for that link opens up on the right side of the
page. I have not figured out how to get Jaws to go over to that right side of
the page to read the story. Any help on this would be appreciated. The link is

It sounds like these are the kind of links that JAWS verbalizes as something
like, "Same page link." They can be confusing. One method that often works
in such cases is to note the wording in the link, then search for some or
all of that search string to take you to the relevant part of the page.

Re: [JAWS-Users] FW: Question on an IE website

2017-03-29 Thread Stephen Bennett
Hi Mr. Ed and List

As a non-visual user I can't comment on the left side right side thing, but
certainly got the stories to read with Jaws, running Win 10 and Jaws 17.

The first link I clicked opened up a whole new page with the story on it.
Other links seemed to act more like Tab Panels, where pressing Enter opens
up a Tab within the page and shows the story. These were still labeled as
links though. It seems to be a very busy page and is making my machine work
quite hard while I'm on it, so Jaws might behave badly on a busy page like
that.

Hi Kurt,

When using F2 to edit a cell in Excel, after you have made your changes, you
just hit Enter and the changes are stored in the cell. If you press Escape,
the cell content returns to what it was before you hit F2.

Hi Adam,

Just a couple things...

In Excel, you can hit F7 to spell check.
In JAWS, you can hit JAWSKey+NumPad5 to hear an individual word spelled.
You can use JAWSKey+NumPad2 to hear sentences spelled. In Excel, I quite
often use the JAWSKey+NumPad2 to hear the contents of a cell spelled.

individual cells in Excel into a virtual viewer? To put it into some

present, the arrow keys are navegating between cells, not between the

Hi Adrian,

Sent my last message prematurely. They sure will, try playing around with
them. I sent Kimsan all the settings because he's had this problem in the
past, but the setting in particular for this 70,000 instance to adjust is
the, Number Processing, option. For 70,000 to be read correctly either the,
Controlled by Synthesizer, or Full Number, can be used. Use the spacebar to
toggle through the choices. The other choices are, Single Digits, or Pairs.
The settings I posted are the settings I've been using for years, & Kimsan
liked my settings the last time this issue reared its head.

Correct. What I keep forgetting is that while you can save an individual
message in OE as text, you can't save more than one at a time. It's one reason
I migrated to Outlook, where the other day I saved 1,200 messages to text in
one operation.

Re: [JAWS-Users] flexable web

2017-03-29 Thread Subash
Hi Anna, I find the flexable web does some strange things, but it does take
getting use to.
I have set it to start reading from certain areas on a specific site, it
worked for a while, then revert to the way it was.
I set it to hide a few elements, i.e share on google and a few others sites,
and those work, but I find while reading through an article, it pops up in
the middle of the article.
I guess it takes more getting use to by me to keep modifying the rules until
it works.
I may have to learn it more for a job I am applying for, when I do, I will
be happy to share more.

Are you saying that pressing the, F12 key, opens, a Save As dialogue? Also
which version of WLM are you running, menues or ribbons? I would like to
save your save as text info for future reference, so thank you very much for
any info you provide.

It works for both the ribbon and non ribbon versions, pressing f12.
Simply focus on the message to be save, no need to open it and press f12 and
the familular dialog appears.

Hi Jerry,
We could probably be of more help, if we knew which e-mail client you are
referring to.
Most e-mail clients save messages as .eml , but do give an option in the
save as dialogue to save as .txt.
Alternatively, you could choose "open with", from the context menu in
Windows Explorer, and select Notepad.
Keep in mind if you choose this option, there will be much more in the
message than
just the message body text.

[JAWS-Users] Excel question

2017-03-29 Thread Adam Ferguson
Hi all.

Just a quick question. How might I be able to put text from
individual cells in Excel into a virtual viewer? To put it into some
kind of context, I want to check the spelling of words but, at
present, the arrow keys are navegating between cells, not between the
characters within a cell.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks in advance,

It sounds like these are the kind of links that JAWS verbalizes as something
like, "Same page link." They can be confusing. One method that often works
in such cases is to note the wording in the link, then search for some or
all of that search string to take you to the relevant part of the page.

Does anyone have any idea what I could try to do to make this website work

Re: [JAWS-Users] flexable web
Hi Anna, maybe I can be a little more help.
First open a page where you are seeing one of these ads.
Then move to the ad. They are often in a frame.
Open flexible web and choose "create a new customization" and press
enter or tab to the next button and press enter
Then choose "hide an element" and press enter or tab to the next button
and press enter. This will bring up a list of elements you can hide.

This is where it gets interesting and I find you often have to experiment.
You then choose the element you want to hide and press enter or tab to
the next button and press enter.
There will now be choices which very depending on the elements you are
wanting to hide and it can take some experimenting to get it to do what
you want.
The last part is whether you want to apply to a specific page or across
all pages.

You then have to give it a name and your done.
I realize the instructions get a little fuzzy but I am not an expert on
this and it does take some playing with it.

I hope this might get you started.

To each their own. I used the weather Research It feature daily since it
became available. The temperature updated more frequently, so in summer if
I needed to go somewhere at 4 in the afternoon it was easy to see if it was
still 115 degrees, sunny, cloudy, possible storm. Each morning I used it to
check the morning temperature before leaving home and the forecast for the
day to determine if I needed a jacket, to dress in warmer or cooler
clothing.

I seldom use other features of that program but weather I used daily for
years.

I can go elsewhere, of course but this loaded fast and was accurate for a
daily forecast, have seldom been interested in hourly forecasts unless there
is a major storm and I know how to find them if I want them.

Just my take on the issue.

I just now opened Google and typed the search term, "tomorrow's weather
forecast." I could have said today's, or Wednesday's, or whatever. The first
result doesn't help because the site uses bots, as google alerts me right
away. The second result is for the Weather Channel, an IBM company. For my
region, it gives an hour-by-hour weather report in a table form that is
easily navigated using JAWS table commands. I'm impressed.

If I were to jump on my soap box now, I'd ask why anyone would rely on the
often broken Research It when google is so dependable. But that would be
annoying, wouldn't it?

Hi Jerry,
We could probably be of more help, if we knew which e-mail client you are
referring to.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Saving Email Messages

2017-03-29 Thread Tom Behler
Hello.

I often save e-mail messages I want to keep in text format, which can later
be opened in Notepad.

However, sometimes, the messages come out in a very strange format, where I
have to use my up and down arrow keys to navigate letter for letter to read
the message.

If anyone can tell me why this might be happening in certain messages, and
how to remedy the issue, I'd appreciate that very much.

The other thing you could do is copy and paste the text of an e-mail message
into a blank word document. This is especially helpful if you want to
preserve embedded links from the e-mail.

Anyway, these are just my thoughts and experiences for what they are worth.
