Hi Net bat, Yes, while in any application if you press, Insert / Jaws key + D, this will open the dictionary for this application, & to open the Jaws default dictionary then press, Control, Shift, + D. You can also press, Insert / Jaws key + F2, to open a list of Jaws managers, & find the Dictionary Manager that way as well. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sent from my iBarstool. If you're running Vista, you can use Windows Mail (formerly Outlook Express). It definitely supports Yahoo and gmail and it's very accessible with JAWS. I used it on my Vista computer for years. Re: [JAWS-Users] pronounciation dictionary?
Yes it does, what is more you can have a seperate dictionary for each program as well as a global one, just like you can have different settings for programs. To access it, use the JAWS key, usually insert, plud D. This will get you the dictionary manager for whatever program you were in when you invoked it. To get to the default or global dictionary, if the dictionary manager is asking to create a new dictionary, just press Escape, otherwise, the dictionary manager will load with the already existing dictionary loaded, to get to the default of global dictionary from here just press control+shift+D, just like in the settings manager. After you added, edited, or removed some words, press control+S to save the dictionary, then press Alt+F4 to exit, if you forget to save, the dictionary manager will remind you when you try to exit. Hope that helps. Later... Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 17 and ms security essentials
Gene, fortunately, invoking the JAWS cursor is easy. Just press the top-right key of the numpad, above the long +/PC cursor key. You can toggle between the JAWS and PC cursors by alternately pressing these two keys. Working with the JAWS cursor has two important functions. First, it enables you to move around the screen without accidentally pressing a control. Second, it often gives you more information than you can get with the PC cursor. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Gene Warner Sent: Sunday, May 28, 2017 1:43 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 17 and ms security essentials Interesting, I'll have to check the help files about how to switch to the JAWS cursor and check it out. Re: [JAWS-Users] Downgrading to JAWS 16
I don't need JAWS for work, when I lost my vision, I had so few working years left, that I decided to just retire early. But when I sit down in front of my computer, regardless of what I'm doing; emailing, surfing the web, playing game, online shopping or banking, the last thing I want or need is to have to fight with a program that refuses to work properly. So arfter a year and a half of fighting with JAWWS 17 and 18, I finally gave up and went back to JAWS16. If I had discovered the Outlook Express that is usable on Windows 7 before I started using Thunderbird, I'd probably be using it now. Later... On 5/27/2017 3:27 PM, Andrew James Bontrager wrote: I've still got JAWS version 9 running on this Windows XP machine, along with Microsoft Word 2003 and Outlook Express. I also have a Windows 7 laptop with JAWS 17 instaled. But sadly, on that computer, JAWS seems to get stuck and has to restart itself rather more frequently than I like. I can tell you, that makes for some very anxious moments when speech stops and will not restart. My advice is, do what you need to, in order for you to do your job. If a newer version would give you better productivity, by all means upgrade it if you can. In my case, if I want to use Windows 7, I have to use the later JAWS version. But after several attempts to fully upgrade, I only use that system as a backup. Conversely, if you find that a piece of software isn't helping you, and you're spending time trying to force it to perform its function, it's best to go to an earlier version or try another program. This is why I use the fine port someone made of Outlook Express to Windows 7. Why? because other email programs (and believe me, I've tried many) don't meet the requirements which OE has met for all these years. --- I am, therefore I think. I personally am not on Verizon, how ever my cousin is and since the change over last week he can no longer access his email. It works here if I setup his email account but not for him as he lives across the state from me near Philadelphia. He is getting an error 0x800ccc0f which defies an answer and believe me I have looked. Verizon stated that ultimately all the end user needed to do would be to change their password and I did that for him along with the other stuff on the server side of things. So just after that I checked his email here, entered his new password when the prompt popped up and all is well here. On his end though things are not working so well unfortunately. I figure there are a lot of you out there using the same email service so somebody ran in to this issue and came up with the answer. If that is so please share it with the list. This is a rather perplexing problem as so often happens with computers, you can do it right and it still won’t work. He and I both are using live mail 2012 and system resources are not an issue at all. David Ferrin Life is what happens after you have already made other plans. Re: [JAWS-Users] More on antivirus
Hi, I don't know about Bitdefender, but the last I heard Casperski is not accessible. My sister who is blind had it on her pc when she got it, and when she had to do anything with Casperski, she would get a sighted neighbor to help. Malwarebytes is not so well liked. Does anyone have experience with these 2 or other paid virus protection? Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting E-mail Recipients in Windows LiveMail
Hi Tom. As i wrote earlyer, you should be able to se what is found as you have typed 2-3 or more letters of the name or e-mail address. But there is no script for Jaws to handle this dialogbox, therefor you must press the tab key, to get the result available, and read the result with insert+up arrow. You can continue typing more letters untill you find the correct receiver of the e-mail, and than go on with the subject and text field. I know that this is'nt just as accessible as you knew from Window Eyes, but so is the reallity. Hans Pauli. Oprindelig meddelelse- Fra: Tom Fairhurst Dato: 27. maj 2017 22:12 Til: List Jaws Emne: ***SPAM*** [JAWS-Users] Selecting E-mail Recipients in Windows LiveMail I won’t write about this any more because I’m as tired of writing about it as you are of hearing about it. I have the latest version of Window Eyes, the latest version of NVDA, and the latest version of JAWS on my Windows 7 64-bit Pro computer. Selecting E-mail recipients by typing in the To field works perfectly for me in Window-Eyes.I start hearing suggestions, and arrowing through the list, they are spoken and can be selected. In JAWS, nothing is spoken, and no suggestions appear. The Read Current Line and arrow keys only read my typed text. When I tab out and back into the field, only my typed text appears. In NVDA, likewise, when I start typing in the To field, I can only read my typed text. If I arrow down or up, I still only hear my typed text. However, if I tab out and then back into the field, I hear the first suggestion spoken. If I were to type some letters and arrow down twice and then tab out and back, I would hear the third suggestion in the To field. These results would be expected. Thus, the suggestion information is populating properly, but NVDA won’t read it. Strange indeed. Thanks so much for everyone’s help. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 17 and ms security essentials
It is not absolutely necessary to use the JAWS cursor to access the major components of MSE. But you can obtain additional information by using it. For instance, on the Home tab, switching to the JAWS cursor will provide details about your most recent scan and whether your database definitions are up to date. Using the JAWS cursor on the History tab will provide details on any detected malware threats. But if you prefer not to use the JAWS cursor, MSE will still work just fine with JAWS. I don't think I've ever had to use the Jaws cursor for any part of the program. Could you please explain? Scorpio -Original Message- From: Gerald Levy Sent: Saturday, May 27, 2017 7:55 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 17 and ms security essentials Yes, MSE is totally accessible with JAWS as long as you use the JAWS cursor. This is probably the most accessible anti-virus program available, although it may not necessarily be the highest-rated in terms of anti-virus protection. But given the fact that both AVG and Avast are now both no longer accessible, MSE is probably the best alternative for JAWS users.
