Re: [JAWS-Users] One Drive clarification
Hi Tom, Windows 7 doesn't include a OneDrive app, so you'll have to download and install it. It had been included into the Windows Live Essentials suite, but probably now may be available separately. When installed, the first thing you'll be asked is to sign in, and you will be using the JAWS Virtual Cursor. The next screens are normally accessible. To quickly access OneDrive folder latter, double-click on the OneDrive system tray icon; that icon will also you the synchronization status, that is, files in your local copy of the folder structure compared to the folder structure uploaded of the service. To access more settings than in the initial wizard, open the context menu and choose Settings. Although Office 2013 and 2016 include direct support for OneDrive even without the app, for example for co-authoring, you can save files to the OneDrive folder structure from any application. The files will save locally in the normal way and the app will upload these files to the cloud in the background. Re: [JAWS-Users] how to activate the touch cursor
Hi Denis, The way to enable and disable the Touch Cursor depends on your JAWS keyboard layout. If you're using Desktop keyboard, enable Touch Cursor by pressing SHIFT+NUMPAD PLUS, and Disable it by pressing the JAWS Cursor (NUMPAD MINUS) or the PC Cursor (NUMPAD PLUS) twice quickly. If you're using Laptop keyboard, it is enabled by pressing CAPSLOCK+SHIFT+SEMICOLON, and either press CAPSLOCK+SEMICOLON twice (PC Cursor) or CAPSLOCK+P (JAWS Cursor) to disable it. Hope it helps! -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Dennis Long Sent: Sunday, August 13, 2017 2:34 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] how to activate the touch cursor Hi, how do you enable and disable the touch cursor? [JAWS-Users] Word 2010, sort and JAWS
Brian, Well, I didn't wait. Creating a heading looks almost too easy. Keeping in mind your point that for my dictionary-like organization to work, I should use only one heading level, I'm going with the obvious, control-alt-number row 1. I thought I'd need to select existing lines of text, but it seems I just have to position the cursor at the beginning of the line (or anywhere on the line?) for it to take effect. I could also initiate a heading by typing that key combo and proceeding with the heading text, but most are already in place. It will be a fair amount of clerical work, but now I can see my way forward. One thought. each of my would-be headings is preceded by a double return. Can you think of a search and replace operation that might accomplish what I want? Presumably, it would consist of ^6^6 in both fields, with an additional character in the replace field. Please don't waste your time if you don't have a quick answer. If you have anything else to add or correct, please let me know. Again, thank you. -Original Message- From: Adrian Spratt Sent: Saturday, August 12, 2017 10:09 PM To: 'jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com' Subject: RE: [JAWS-Users] Word 2010, sort and JAWS Brian, I had a feeling you'd come up with something. [JAWS-Users] asking for help for a friend with Jaws 18 and Windows 10
My friend is an 86 year old Benedictine Sister. She uses her computer to do work for the Xavier Society and to volunteer for Bookshare, along with all of the tasks that are part of her life at the convent. She was using a Windows 7 computer and system access for about 5 years, but the computer crashed. She now has Jaws 18 and Windows 10. It was set up for her by the convent's tech person with some consultation with Freedom Scientific. While we're waiting to see if the person I know, has time to work with her remotely on the phone, I have a question to ask for her. I seem to remember being told that there's a way to set up Windows 10 so that it looks like what we're accustomed to seeing on Windows 7. Is that called the classic view? Is that what she should tell the tech person to set up for her? Right now, she can't get to the internet or to Documents. She would like to be able to get to the desktop with icons, like she could before, and to Documents. Re: [JAWS-Users] touch cursor help
Hi Orlando, I think the only way you can select items is by pressing the spacebar or enter on them, but below are navigation tips for your enjoyment. Navigating With the Touch Cursor To move to the next or previous object on the screen, press RIGHT or LEFT ARROW. You can also use TAB or SHIFT+TAB. To move by a specific object type, press UP or DOWN ARROW. By default, the UP and DOWN ARROWS will move by regions, or by groups if you are on the Windows 8 Start Screen. To change what object type these commands move by, press PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN to cycle through the available types using the navigation rotor. For example, if you want the UP or DOWN ARROW keys to move by headings, press PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN until you hear "headings. Now, pressing UP or DOWN ARROW will move to the next or previous heading. Press CTRL+HOME to move to the first object and press CTRL+END to move to the last object. To announce the current object, press INSERT+UP ARROW. To perform a Say All, which will cause the Touch Cursor to move through the application and speak each object, press INSERT+DOWN ARROW. As you navigate using the ARROW keys, the system focus does not follow the Touch Cursor. This allows you to freely navigate through objects without changing the position of the PC Cursor or mouse pointer. Pressing SPACEBAR or ENTER on the current object will move focus to that object and perform the appropriate action. For instance, opening a menu, selecting a check box, or activating a button or link. In addition, a rectangle will be displayed around the currently selected object to visually indicate the location of the Touch cursor for sighted users. To quickly move the Touch Cursor to the object that currently has focus, press INSERT+NUM PAD PLUS, or CAPS LOCK+APOSTROPHE if using the laptop keyboard layout. JAWS will route the Touch Cursor to the currently selected object and announce it. The Touch Cursor will remain active after performing this command. To determine what object types will be announced as you navigate with the Touch Cursor, press INSERT+V to open Quick Settings, expand the Touch Cursor Options group, then move to Configure Types. This group lists all available types that can be navigated to using the Touch Cursor. Use the SPACEBAR to select or clear a type. Types that are selected are announced while types that are not selected are ignored. Note: The Configure Types option only appears in Quick Settings if the Touch Cursor is currently active when Quick Settings is opened. Touch Cursor Navigation Quick Keys While the Touch Cursor is active, you can use Navigation Quick Keys to quickly jump to various types of objects, such as regions, headings, links, form controls, and so on. These commands are similar to the Navigation Quick Keys that are used when navigating HTML and PDF documents with the Virtual PC Cursor. By default, Touch Navigation Quick Keys are not enabled when the Touch Cursor is activated. This allows you to fully use applications that support typing in the main window. For example, the Windows 8 News app lets you type so you can quickly locate specific stories. If you would like Touch Navigation Quick keys to be enabled automatically when the Touch Cursor is activated in a specific application, press INSERT+V to open Quick Settings while focused in the application, navigate to the Touch Cursor Options group, and select Touch Quick Keys. You can also press INSERT+Z while the Touch Cursor is active to temporarily toggle Touch Navigation Quick Keys on or off. The following Navigation Quick Keys are available: Note: You can add the SHIFT Key to any of these commands to move to the previous occurrence of that element. A - Next radio button B - Next button C - Next combo box D - Next document E - Next edit field F - Next form field G - Next image H - Next heading I - Next list item K - Next link L - Next list M - Next menu O - Next tool bar P - Next pane Q - Next tab R - Next region S - Next occurrence of static text T - Next table U - Next group V - Next tree view X - Next check box Z - Next status b Dave Carlson From: Londa Peterson Here's some more from the JAWS help Touch Cursor SHIFT+NUM PAD PLUS Next Object RIGHT ARROW or TAB Prior Object LEFT ARROW or SHIFT+TAB Next Object by Type DOWN ARROW Prior Object by Type UP ARROW Cycle Through Object Navigation Types PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN First Object CTRL+HOME Last Object CTRL+END Say Current Object INSERT+UP ARROW Say All with Touch Cursor INSERT+DOWN ARROW Route Touch Cursor to Focused Object INSERT+NUM PAD PLUS Text Review NUM PAD SLASH or INSERT+ENTER Advanced Navigation NUM PAD STAR Londa From: Londa Peterson Actually, I use the keyboard commands for said gestures. I don't have a touch screen on my Windows 7 computer. It seems to do what the JAWS cursor used to do. I haven't had a whole lot of luck with the JAWS cursor of late, and several people have told me that this works. So I decided to give it a try, and it works quite well.

Hello, everyone. I am looking for an easy-to-use program with which I can share files that are too large to send to people via normal e-mail. I have had some very limited success with Dropbox, but someone has just suggested that I try One Drive, which I should have access to since I purchase an annual subscription to the Microsoft Office 365 suite of products. [JAWS-Users] Changing to Windows 10
Hi all. I've just purchased a new laptop which will be running Windows 10. It's a Leda brand (not sure of the selling, but they're a South Australian company). I will be running the latest JAWS on it and am wondering if there are any introductory tips you guys can give me, since I've currently running Windows 7 on my old laptop. I have been saving Jim's tutorials, but have not really looked at them yet. I really simply need just simple introductory tips - like dotted points, so I know where to start, since I have not been able to access training here yet. The waiting list seems quite long. Thanks.
