Hello Mandy;

If you want to hear unread messages you can do the following;

You need to label the jaws graphics for the unread, and attachments.

To do this try the following;

In Windows Live Mail Do the following steps to label the unread and
attachment graphics in the message list, so they will be announced.

1. First make sure that within the Windows Live Mail application that it is
configured to read labeled graphics. Without Configuration Manager set this

way, the message status will never get read.

2. Temporarily set the verbosity to read all graphics by pressing
Insert+V=adjust jaws options, now press the letter G until you hear
Graphics. Press the Spacebar until it announces all,

then press Enter. .

3. Move to an unread message, then route the JAWS Cursor to the PC Cursor by
pressing Insert + NumPad minus (-).

If your using a laptop layout, you would press caps-lock-key+left bracket.

4. Navigate to the left of the unnamed graphic message by pressing
Ctrl+Left-arrow.

5. Press Insert+G to label the graphic. Type in unread without the quotes,
and press Enter-key.

6. Press the NumPad plus to make certain that the PC Cursor is enabled.

7. Move to a message with an attachment, then route the JAWS Cursor to the
PC Cursor.

8. Move on top of the unnamed graphic to the left of the message by pressing
Ctrl+Left-arrow.

9. Press Insert+G to label the graphic. Type in attachment without the
quotes, and press Enter.

10. Press the NumPad plus to make certain that the PC Cursor is enabled.

11. Set the verbosity back to read labeled graphics by pressing
Insert+V=adjust jaws options, then press G until you hear Graphics.
Insert+Press
Space until it announces labeled,

then press Enter.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Mandy,
the lack of folders in the folder pane may be due to it being set to a
compact view. To check if this is the case, press alt+v to move to the name
of the view tab, and then press tab quite a few times till you get to a
compact view button. If Jaws reads this as compact view button pressed, then

press the button to turn the option off.

ok the big trouble is I don't know and neither do you, the translation
from menu's to ribbons, but I have some tutorials on windows live mail, so
hopefully one of them will give you the information you need.

first is:
for an audio tutorial on using windows live mail!
go too:
www.accessibleworld.org
and look for the presentation by someone named Mr. Asner.
Its an MP3 file that you can download and listen too.

here is another good one:
http://email.about.com/od/windowsmailtips/Windows_Mail_Tips_Tricks_and_Secrets.htm

ok now this sounds very similar to your troubles and the fix for them:

ok, this is a corrected and headers removed version of a series of Emails
concerning the HOW it reads and the altering of this in windows live mail,
I've put them back in the order they came in instead of the last is first
chronology they wind up in to make reading easier for folks.

starting in correct order from first request to end of problem fix, first
post:

 hello folks

in windows vista and XP I was able to sort how emails were viewed and read
by jaws. my emails are now being read by. the name of the sender first then
the date then the time then the subject and then which folder it is in. can
I sort this so the subject is being read first then the sender and then the
date and time if I want it. or maybe stop the date and time and folder which
it is being read from not to be announced. I cant find any options in the
view menu to do this. many thanks in advance.

 regards
 Vincent

next:

Hi Vincent,

you can open the Columns dialog from the view menu - I think this allows
you to do what you want to do,

David.

next:
hello David

it is saying all the time that columns are unavailable. I thought that was
were I done it in vista and XP. but it says unavailable. can you suggest how
to activate this.

regards
Vincent

Next:
this is one thing to try:
1. Open the layout dialog on the view menu.
2. Move to the Message list button, and press it using spacebar.
3. When you do this, the button expands and shows some text and controls
which Jaws (and probably other screen readers don't automatically read.
What's there is the text Show messages using: followed by a group of three
radio buttons: Choose view automatically;
two-line view; and one-line view. By default it seems to be set to choose
view automatically, and on my machine if it's set to that or the one-line
view, then I can access the columns dialog. However if it's set to two line
view, the the columns dialog is unavailable, and the reading order of
subject, date etc is as you've previously described. The easiest was to set
an option is to use it's access key:
Choose view automatically (alt+u), two-line view (alt+t), one-line view
(alt+o). Once you've used an access key jaws reads it, and you can the use
up and down arrows to read the other options if you want to. (The other way
of accessing the options if to route jaws to cursor, read a word at a time
to get to any word in the options, and then route pc to jaws cursor).

best wishes,
David.

ok, hope these help you with that trouble!
you may be able to find a list for the ribbon commands on the microsoft
site, I have one, but its for word 2010 and its ribbon, not WLM.

the last thing is there is a program that returns the ribbons to menu like
arrangements if you would want to install it, but I'd really try to get used
to the ribbons since more and more things are starting to use them!

take care,

I have just got my computer back from a total hard-drive crash and am now
having a few problems.

I am using JAWS 12, Windows 7 and I use Windows Live Mail and when my
emails come in, they just show the name of sender or sometimes just the
subject and I want them to show the name and topic so what do I alter for
this to happen?

I like Avast because it verbally tells you when it has updated but when I
get my laptop working again might try the Microsoft programme.

Hi.

I would highly recommend microsoft security essentials. its a free
download and very light on resources. i found AVG to be resource intensive
when reviewing it though that was a while ago. Avast is also very
reliable. I would try microsoft security essentials first. links to both
are below.

Hope this helps and sorry if i'm repeating what's already been mentioned,

Thanks for all of you who told me what it is. One of the YouTube things I

a lot of other stuff, in internet download manager in the music part but

[JAWS-Users] Strange Problem.

I am using Windows 7 with JAWS 12 and am unable to use Internet Explorer as

in an email it says (no links) and simply hangs there.
Firefox works but none of my sites are stored in favourites or bookmarks on

to make this happen.
I am also unable to perform a system restore which I thought might have
reversed the situation for me.

Also I installed a piece of software which my bank recommended which seems to
be causing the trouble but I cannot uninstall it as nothing happens when I try.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] windows live mail 2011, will sometimes not open,or delete
messages.

I am running windows 7, jaws 12, latest update, and office 2007 on a 64 bit
machine. I am posting this here, because I'm not sure if my problem is a
jaws issue, or a Microsoft one.

Sometimes, in Windows live mail, 2011, I get a message that says, an unknown
error has occurred. Windows live mail cannot open this message, please try
again. So I do, and most of the time, it works the second time, but
sometimes, that message just won't open at all. That is annoying, because
what if it were important?

Secondly, sometimes a message just won't delete. I know that shift delete
will delete it, but you should be able to just hit delete to get rid of it.
Is there a way to fix either, or both of these problems?

Jim

That could be one of 3 things.
1. That function is not in the scripts for WLM .
2. The function is broke if there.
3. That function is there for outlook mail.

down to the lower ribbon and just keep tabbing around in hope but it is
taking ages and still I cannot find it.

hello Mandy;

I'm assuming you have the jaws virtual ribbon menu on?

if you turn it off,
then pressing, alt/o/r will take you to the message rules,
you can turn it off, by insert+v=adjust jaws options,
now press the letter,
v, now spacebar to turn it off.
you can do this right from the WLM.

However, should this not also be available somewhere in jaws's

This would be in versions of jaws prior to jaws 12 as I do not have the

Are they in the reading options? Read automatically is definitely on but don't
see anything about reading Payne.

I've been using WLM since about February or March of this year would there be
a later version which might have improved and if so how do I update?

Sometimes if JAWS won't read an email I route JAWS or pretend I am

read the message. Not good but workable I find.

semicolon (;) and shift+semicolon for next and previous landmark

 Mandy,
You can receive that message if another e-mail client such as Outlook is
 in
your system at the same time. Windows Live may ask to be shown as the
primary e-mail product. That kind of message will occasionally lock you
out of an entire folder. If that happens, the only way around it is to
delete the folder and then re-create it. You may lose content in the
process. For some reason, I'm not sure why, Windows Live Mail doesn't
 play
happily with other e-mail systems, even Outlook.

I found what might be a working solution to this issue with Jaws not
 reading
 certain messages in Windows Live.
I have tried this several times and it does seem to work.

 1. In the view Option, go down to Layout and make sure the Reading Pane
 is
 checked.
 2. There are options for placing it either at the bottom or to the
 right
 of
the message. Choose the bottom option.
 3. If you encounter a message that won't read, activate the Jaws
 cursor.
There may be a lot of other information in the page that we don't
 usually
hear. If you are experiencing that, press the Page Down and you can
 read
the message. It's annoying but it does work.

There may be a lot of other information in the page that we don't usually
hear. If you are experiencing that, press the Page Down and you can read
the message. It's annoying but it does work.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem Reading All Messages in Windows Live Mail

I am running Windows 7, 64 bit, and the Latest version of JAWS 11. The problem
that I'm having is that I can't read all of my messages in Windows Live Mail.
Some messages are read correctly and in their entirety but, some messages don't
read anything at all. In order to read these messages I have to hit forward or
reply and then read through the message and then just cancel actually sending
the message. So, it's not that I can't read the message but, I have to go
through these extra steps to read it and it is very unnecessary and annoying.
Is any one else having this problem and does anyone know what I might be able
to do to fix it. It's confusing to me since it does not do it on all of my
messages. Thanks in advance for your help.

Smiles Across the Miles,
Gena

I am using Windows Live Mail and aside from a few irritations am liking it very
much.

Try insert v and look at all the options there as there are plenty of different
settings to choose from and if you would like to, email me privately and I will
try to assist.

Hi all,

I just recently installed Windows Live mail to use as an email client.
Everything works beautifully, except that when I go into a message list, Jaws
isn't reading the 'unread' status before reading the other details of an email
message. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure if it's a known bug, or
if something isn't set right within the settings of Jaws itself. Any help here
is greatly appreciated.

Take care, and feel free to write me off list.

Thanks,

I am using Windows Live and my issue is when I have finished reading an email

list view of the various folder and can not get out of it to get back to the
inbox unless I close and reopen the program. Highlighting on the inbox and
hitting enter won't work. This is very anoying indeed.

Is it this list you're trying to message rule?

You check where the to and cc line contains people.

Hello Mandy,

I recently wrote out the steps for creating a rule in Microsoft outlook
2003 for one of my clients. It was a rule to move all attachments that
arrive into a separate folder. The steps are shown below. You can make
different choices in the select condition and select action steps to
create different rules.

Before creating a rule to move files with attachments to a specific
folder, the destination folder should already be created. If a target
folder needs to be created then here are steps for doing so:

1. Use CTRL+shift+E to bring up the create new folder dialog box.
2. Type a name for the new folder in the edit box that comes into focus.
3. Use tab key twice to move to a list of folders. The new folder will be
a subfolder to whichever folder is selected in this list. For example, if
inbox is selected then the new folder will be a subfolder to the inbox
folder. To make the new folder appear on the same level as inbox,
drafts, deleted items etc., use the left arrow key until you hear
level 0 personal folders opened.

4. Use tab key to move to the OK button and press enter key.

Here are the steps for creating a rule in Outlook 2003 for moving all
messages with attachments from the inbox when they arrive to a specific
e-mail folder.

1. Open tools, arrow down to rules and alerts and press enter to open
the choice.

2. Tab to new rule button and press enter.
3. In the group of radio buttons use down arrow to start from a blank
rule.
4. Use tab key to move to a group of radio buttons for the rule to run
when messages arrive or when they are sent. Use check messages when they
arrive. Using the arrow key to move to the choice selects the choice if
it is a radio button.

5. Tab to the next button and press spacebar.
6. In the select condition step use down arrow key to move to the which
has an attachment choice and use spacebar to check the choice. Use tab
to the next button and press spacebar.
7.In the select action step use spacebar to check move it to the
specified folder.
8. Use tab key once to move to where you can edit the rule description.
Press spacebar to activate the underlined choice. A list of folders will
appear.
9. Use up and down arrow keys to find the folder where you want messages
with attachments saved to and then tab to OK and press enter key.

10. Use tab key to move to the next button and press enter.
11. Ignore steps 11 and 12 if you don't want to use any exceptions. You
will be offered a list of possible exceptions. Use down arrow key to move
to the applicable exception and press spacebar. Do the same for
additional exceptions.
12. Use tab key once to the list of actions. Use down arrow to find your
action for the exception and press spacebar. You can then specify the
exception such as find the names of people that you don't want the rule to
apply to.
13. Whether or not you made exceptions use tab to the next button and
press enter key.
14. Specify a name for the rule in the edit box that appears. Either
choose the suggested name or type one to be used.
15. Use tab key once and if you want to apply the rule on messages already
in the inbox then use spacebar on the checkbox.

16. Use tab key to the finish button and press spacebar.
17. Use tab to move to the apply button and use spacebar.
18. If you want to run the rule on messages already in the inbox then use
tab key to the run rule now button and press spacebar. Otherwise, use
tab key to the OK button and press spacebar.

It is usually a good idea to close the program and then start it again
after making such changes as creating rules.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I've killed jaws, good.

2009-04-11 Thread Mandy
I installed NVDA just out of interest but whilst it was running the usual
insert f4 to quit Jaws would not work so I had both running. Is the only
way to actually use NVDA to uncheck the start Jaws with windows option?
I am just looking at this out of interest and because I am hoping to teach
people the computer with a charity UCanDoIT and some of them may use NVDA is
it a free programme?
Are there many keystrokes to learn? I was interested by the accent as it
sounds very English but a little like a darlic.

Hi Siobhan,

If you're able to, try to get NVDA onto your system, it'll give you the
same

accessibility as Jaws, and allow you to affect a repair of it, if it's at
all possible.

I am going to try and send it over e-mail, but if I can't do it, I'll send
a

link where you can download it.

If you have Skype, send me you're Skype I.D., or your MSN contact
information, and we'll see if we can't get you NVDA over those mediums.

Take care, and good luck.

Re: [JAWS-Users] [JAWS-USERS] auto sizer

2009-04-08 Thread Mandy

Hi David.

I have tried to use auto-sizer but it totally messes up my laptop - I am
using a Dell with Jaws 10 latest build - if I install auto-sizer one of the
things that I cannot do is use my spell-check in Outlook Express as when I
look for a word it will say blank - also it seems to prevent me reading
messages properly with Windows Live Messenger and when I open an email in
Outlook Express it takes me to a different one.
I have tried altering some of the settings in options but my husband who
also uses a Dell but a desktop has no problems with this programme.
Would the earlier version behave differently do you think and if so where
do I get it as I've only tried the version I find by googling it.

And if you can't uninstall for some reason you can google for Zap
Messenger.

You can then download that, run it, click start, and Messenger will be
removed. Seems to do a thorough job.

Unless you are running the very latest version of jaws I would not
recommend

an upgrade of messenger. version 9 of windows live is not accessible to
anyone using anything lower than jaws 10 with latest upgrades. I learned
the

hard way and was glad to be able to find a way to undo this installment.
If you do accidently get 'tricked' into having to install the new
messenger,

you can revert back to a working previous version, by first uninstalling
anything related to the new messenger and then installing windows live
messenger 8.1.

Hello all,
JAWS has a feature to improve support in edit and rich edit controls. This
can be found in Configuration Manager, in the text processing dialogue. By
default it is unchecked, and I think FS should have this turned on by
default in default.jcf. What do you think? Do check this feature out as
you

may find that edit controls will be more responsive and accurate.

excuse and I'm sticking to it smile!

I've now changed my voice settings to Daniel UK and turned up the volume
to 100 per cent but this only seems to apply to Outlook Express how do I
make it the same for all applications?

Hi there can someone tell me why when I press control R for replying to a
message, and yet when I receive my message back, I can't read what I've
written. Say for instance, I'm replying to a message on this list, and as
 it
comes back to me, there's nothing there but the original message which I
have replied to. What's happening here? and that's never happened before.
 I
 hope I haven't confused you.kk.

[JAWS-Users] Copying Text.

2008-09-12 Thread Mandy
I've just joined this Group and did send this email three days ago but it
hasn't even appeared yet perhaps this is due to moderated status on joining so
apologies if it eventually turns up twice!
A couple of weeks back I was altering some Jaws settings via configuration
Manager so went to user settings and looked in HTML as I thought what I needed
to change was there.

A change I did not intend to make and do not want is that: when selecting
text, Jaws repeats it which is very confusing how do I alter this?

I am using Jaws 10 beater but it happens on previous versions too.

Dave the reason it is confusing is that when I am copying something onto
the clipboard Jaws says it twice which I don't want.

You can toggle screen echo setting off highlighted by pressing Insert S
until you hear Jaws say none. The options are all, none and highlighted.

I am interested in why this is confusing for you though. How else will
 you
know which text you have selected if Jaws does not tell you? What method
 do
you use. Jaws will normally read out the text you select and say selected
 at
the end. If you want to stop the reading just press the control key once.

 Regards

 David

Re: [JAWS-Users] Copying Text.

2008-09-12 Thread Mandy
Hi thanks this has solved it for me.
I don't think I will need to report it as a Jaws 10 problem now although
having said that, when I tried one of the alternative voices which I quite
liked, I did seem to have some trouble with selected text but I don't see
how altering a voice would do that.

I love not having to enter to get into forms mode though. Brilliant and it
seems to make things faster.

 Hey Mandy,

 Try following:

Open Jaws configuration manager, navigate to User Options under Set
Options menu. Tab down to Screen Echo, and select No Text.

 Hope this helps.

Mandy,
I have had the same experience with JAWS 10 and selecting to the
clipboard.
You start selecting by line with shift-down arrow and when you get to
 about
the third line JAWS starts repeating the selection from the beginning and
you lose track of what you are selecting. I have sent a report in and it
would be good if you would as well.
Also, I wonder if there is an email list for the beta testers of JAWS 10.

Becky

What other changes did you make? Also, settings in JAWS beta can and do
affect settings in other full versions. I think I'd submit this as a
possible bug in JAWS10 beta via the bug report form. (I have not to this
point downloaded the beta, strangely enough.)
