[JAWS-Users] saying good by to an old friend

2018-07-23 Thread David Ferrin
This is likely my final post on here as I am going to delete this list in the
hope that everybody who wants has already moved over to the new list or is at
least planning on it.

I should say it will be the same list, just in a new location.

I think I worded it wrong. I just press enter on the menu or link, for
example, bill pay is not expanded, so when I press enter on bill pay, it
opens it up to take me to the bill pay page.

Hope that makes sense.

The very first thing I need to do, though, is use my JAWS curser to maximize
the page so I can sign in.

I've also had problems with BofA's website, but right now I can manage.
You

need to explain the specific problems you're encountering. Also, which
section is causing them: checking, credit cards , etc.?

Could anyone give me some clues. I would appreciate a private response if

2018-07-22 Thread Vicki W.
I am also using Windows 7 with both JAWS 14 and JAWS 2018. I found the trick
to getting access is to make sure your sign in page is maximized. Once you
have done that, then sign in and just open up the tabs you need. I use it
for credit card only, though, so other areas may be different.

Even though I have participated on this particular list minimally as a
contributor, I also vote for integrating the list with the existing JAWS
for Windows Users Group on the Groups.io e-mail list/online forum. No
purpose is served by having multiple JAWS user groups. It's one thing, for
instance, to have specialist groups like the JAWS scripting group, but if
one is looking to bring end users together the idea should be reaching the
largest audience in a single place.

For anyone who's curious, send an e-mail message to the Help e-mail address

trouble. It isn't trying to go through itself but wanting me to put the
server info in manually. Does anyone know this info? I googled it but don't
understand what all the numbers and crap it is telling me. outlook is not
using the same phrasing as the googled info so don't know what info to put
where.

Thanks,

Kurt

Hi,
Actually, you can: you need to save membership list to a text file, then ask
Groups.IO to offer you a one-month transfer plan (ten dollars), which then
will allow you to add members directly via file upload method. Also, in
theory, you can port archives to Groups.IO provided that it is in Unix mbox
format.
Cheers,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2016

2018-07-20 Thread Miriam Vieni
I've always read those two lines with alt 1 for the from field and alt 3 for
the to field, and that still works.
But when I go to the top of the message with control home, which I do
regularly because that's the only way I've been able to get to the top for
years in Outlook, Jaws sometimes reads the from line, rather than the top
line of the message, ever since this new update. And I have to close every
email in order to respond to it with control R. I emailed VFO about
responding to emails and they has two complicated work arounds for me. It's
simpler to just close the email and then respond.
However, one of their emails had questions for me to answer. If I pressed
control R and went down to their original email and answered the questions,
that worked fine. And then I could go back up to the top of the email and
write something with no problem.
I know this is complicated. It's really hard to describe. I'm just sorry I
did the update.

If I open an email, I don't seem to be able to change in to JAWS cursor and

Has anyone had any similar issues?
The only way I can read the to and cc fields is to shift+tab back to them
and it is sometimes useful to use the JAWS cursor to read the top part of
the screen.

With this version of jaws, the jaws cursor is restricted. I suggest that
you activate the invisible cursor which has no restrictions. I'm not sure
why that was done, but it seems that the jaws cursor seems to follow the PC
cursor and is, as I'm sure you know, restricted from movement in certain
areas.

Re: [JAWS-Users] going back to previous version of jaws

2018-07-20 Thread Fernando Gregoire
There's no need to uninstall newer versions of JAWS. Unlike other programs,
many JAWS versions can work together in the same system, provided no more
than one is running at the same time.
I would simply install JAWS 14 over the most recent versions, using the
/Type Safe command-line switch to prevent system-level components like FS
Video Intercept, which are shared components, from being replaced with

Re: [JAWS-Users] major announcement

2018-07-20 Thread wayne smith
David, I am not a tech heavy hitter but I followed the link supplied to send
an email to the new list and off it went. A few minutes later I received an
email from the new list instructing me to reply and I did. I got a notice
that I was on board and ready to go. It was that easy and I need you guys
since I am moving up from JAWS 15 to 2018 in a couple of days and to Office
2016 from Office 2007 (kicking and screaming)!

Personally, I'd love to see the JAWS for Windows, NVDA, and Windows 10 for
Screen Reader Users groups "fused." There is very little that goes on in
any one of them that doesn't have partial or total cross-over interest for
the other. In addition, Groups.io gives you an exquisite level of control

Personally, I'd love to see the JAWS for Windows, NVDA, and Windows 10 for
Screen Reader Users groups "fused." There is very little that goes on in
any one of them that doesn't have partial or total cross-over interest for
the other. In addition, Groups.io gives you an exquisite level of control

No, you don't need to, since subscribe is in the email address message that
yu send back.

If you had a membership list, though, you could have added it under the

[JAWS-Users] skipping

2018-07-20 Thread K M Davis
For the person who had a skipping issue in Microsoft word...I called F/S
and got a knowledgeable tech.  He checked things out then did a repair
of Office and can you believe he fixed it? Neither could I but it seems
fixed and I was told not to look a gift horse in the mouth!  YES!!!
So, give it a try 'cause what do you have to lose besides an aggravation
from JAWS?

I am considering moving the list over to groups IO as I understand they seem to
have less problems of being bounced by various internet providers. Over the
years and especially lately we have lost a number of good members since their
providers will not allow messages from this domain to get to subscribers, and
as such they bounce and get removed by the server. I can’t even contact these
people privately since my email address is tied to this domain.

I have to bring my people up to date on groups IO next, the good thing it is a
lot easier to figure out than Mailman. It is almost 10 years since the last
move and with luck this will be the last. I do not know how much longer I will
keep running this beast, but believe it or not in October it will be 13 years.
Bob and I never figured on it lasting this long, There is obviously a need

Even though I have participated on this particular list minimally as a
contributor, I also vote for integrating the list with the existing JAWS
for Windows Users Group on the Groups.io e-mail list/online forum. No
purpose is served by having multiple JAWS user groups. It's one thing, for
instance, to have specialist groups like the JAWS scripting group, but if
one is looking to bring end users together the idea should be reaching the
largest audience in a single place.

Hi David,
I am on numerous groups that are hosted by groups.IO. They all seem to work
quite well without any issues. I know there is some way to switch everyone
there at one time without anyone having to do anything. I think it would be a
good move on your part to move there. Just my two cents worth.

Hi friends,

Using the latest JAWS 2018 and Microsoft Outlook 2016.
If I open an email, I don't seem to be able to change in to JAWS cursor and
read the top of the message heading where the to and cc fields are which is
how I would normally check this.
Has anyone had any similar issues?
The only way I can read the to and cc fields is to shift+tab back to them
and it is sometimes useful to use the JAWS cursor to read the top part of
the screen.

Hi, I am an Office 365 user. I have it downloaded to my computers and I can
put it on five computers. As far as I know it is just a standard version.

[JAWS-Users] changing where documents are saved

2018-07-19 Thread Kurt Miller
Hi listers,

I am asking this for a friend; he is new to the computer world and when he
makes a word document and saves it, we cannot find it anywhere except in the
recents list of word. I am trying to help him have things saved to the
documents folder, but the process is slipping my mind. Could someone kindly
refresh my memory on how to do this?

He is using the latest Windows 10 and Microsoft 2010 on a Toshiba laptop.

Thanks to all in advance,

[JAWS-Users] Fwd: major announcement

2018-07-19 Thread Brian Vogel
As an aside, I have been informed back channel that there exists a firm
rule that, "Thou shalt not criticize VFO," on this list that I had not been
exposed to since I've been getting the digests.

If that is the case, and the owner wishes to maintain that practice, a
merger with the Groups.io JAWS users group will be a no go. The group
culture would never, ever, support such a stricture. One of the great
things about the group is that unvarnished feedback can be offered (which
is not to say wild rants and flames are tolerated). One of the great
things is that VFO employees can see it, too, and feedback in virtual
realtime about recently released updates are worth their weight in gold
when they are something other than, "It's great, great, perfect!!"

User's groups exist to support users, not the software and/or hardware
maker of the product being used. The benefit to the manufacturer exists if
they monitor the groups, but is never a consideration in regulating what is
said (within the realm of common decency and avoiding flames/rants).

Bob and I never figured on it lasting this long, There is obviously a need
which is the reason for keeping it.

Even though I have participated on this particular list minimally as a
contributor, I also vote for integrating the list with the existing JAWS
for Windows Users Group on the Groups.io e-mail list/online forum. No
purpose is served by having multiple JAWS user groups. It's one thing, for

one is looking to bring end users together the idea should be reaching the
largest audience in a single place.

This is an intermittent problem that has been around for years, not truly

Re: [JAWS-Users] major announcement

2018-07-19 Thread Steve

David,

I run a pretty large list on Groups.io, the blind-hams list.

It has been good until mid-July, when it started bouncing some members. Of
some 240 members, nine were bouncing.

I sent "bounce reactivations" to them, and a majority I think are back on
with no problem. But, there were four people who I had to unsubscribe and
send them invitations to re-join.

I know that is still a better track record than the mailman lists, but just
want to let you know it isn't completely without some faults.

I am considering moving the list over to groups IO as I understand they
seem to have less problems of being bounced by various internet providers.
Over the years and especially lately we have lost a number of good members
since their providers will not allow messages from this domain to get to
subscribers, and as such they bounce and get removed by the server. I can’t
even contact these people privately since my email address is tied to this
domain.

I have to bring my people up to date on groups IO next, the good thing it
is a lot easier to figure out than Mailman. It is almost 10 years since
the last move and with luck this will be the last. I do not know how much
longer I will keep running this beast, but believe it or not in October it
will be 13 years. Bob and I never figured on it lasting this long, There
is obviously a need which is the reason for keeping it.

Good luck! earlier this week groups.io suffered some kind of issue, and many
people received messages from the server saying that their accounts had been
suspended because of bounces. This happened to me several times in the course
of a single day, and affected all groups on that server that I was subscribed

The issue seems to have cleared up now, and yesterday I received almost 700

Maybe we can club together and report this to Freedomscientific?

This is an intermittent problem that has been around for years, not truly
consistent but I remember it from Outlook 2010 and Jaws 14, 15, 16, 17, 18,
2018. Same with the read when open from that far back, if you write a long
message, you have to then close Outlook to get the read message to work
correctly again.

Hi friends,

Not sure if anyone else has noticed but when I open a message in Microsoft
Outlook 2016 to read it, I seem to have to press ctrl+home every time to take
the cursor to the top of the message so that I can start reading it line by
line.
Is there any way to stop this or a reason for it please?

Many thanks in anticipation,

Re: [JAWS-Users] going back to previous version of jaws

2018-07-19 Thread HICKS, Steven (ROYAL CORNWALL HOSPITALS NHS TRUST)
She shouldn't need to uninstall anything, just the required version, it will
install to it's own folder, you may just need to sort out the desktop shortcuts
that launch each version.

I have a friend who needs to use Jaws version 14 for a particular web site.

I have advised her to uninstall all later versions of Jaws before installing
version 14.

Does she also need to uninstall shared components?

Thanks,

Peter

Re: [JAWS-Users] major announcement

2018-07-19 Thread Humberto Rodriguez
Hello David:

I think it is a wise move, with all the email security nowadays it is much
preferable to use such a service than hosting one's own list.

I have my "Hosting, podcasting and broadcasting" list at hr+subscr...@groups.io
and so far it works flawlessly. My Spanish-language internet radio list is
with googlegroups.com and likewise, that solved the bouncing problems I used to
have.

I will be quick to subscribe to the new list once you set it up.

Best,

Humberto

Bob and I never figured on it lasting this long, There is obviously a need
which is the reason for keeping it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] accessible dice roller

2018-07-19 Thread LeDon
What is really nice about the Amazon echo is that it is voice controlled.
You can merely say row 1 dice and it will tell you the result of the row.
Or you might say row 2 dice and she will tell you the result, Or you may
want to row 5 dice at once, just say row 5 dice and she will report the
result of the row. It also has several dice games which you can play. And
also a bunch of other games and a host of other things she can do. There is
practically endless with the things she is doing and all with voice
commands.
