Easiest to navigate to it in file explorer to the c:\users folder normally.
Users\(username)\Start menu\programs\startup
It could be in the public profile as well for all users.

In Windows 8, Start Menu / All Programs, is there a, Startup folder? If so, if
you delete whatever program icons that are in this folder, this will stop these
programs from starting at startup.
Take care.

Teresa, the point in what I said was that using the task manager will not
permanently prevent the program from starting when Windows starts.

Hi Mario,

There is a 'startapps' tab in task manager; you get to it with control tab or
with right o left arrows being on the tabs.

Dwight, in using the task manager, the program can be ended but only for one
time. Task Manager is only used when a particular program is being stubborn in
closing in the normal way with alt+f4, alt+spacebar then c, clicking the close
icon in the upper right corner (if the program has such an icon), or the
program's exit, quit or close command. but to prevent a program from starting
when Windows starts, most programs have a setting in it's options, preferences,
etc. that stops the program from starting up

if Mike's steps give you a hassle, take a look around using my suggestion.

Perhaps the message is 'task manager' and not 'taskbar?'

Go to task manager by pressing control+alt+delete. With control tab go to start
aps. there, you wil find a list with your apps, if you tab you will find anable
or disable buttons for each app.

I hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] how do you stop start up programs from running

2016-09-06 Thread Mario Brusco
Dwight, in using the task manager, the program can be ended but only for
one time. Task Manager is only used when a particular program is being
stubborn in closing in the normal way with alt+f4, alt+spacebar then c,
clicking the close icon in the upper right corner (if the program has
such an icon), or the program's exit, quit or close command. but to
prevent a program from starting when Windows starts, most programs have
a setting in it's options, preferences, etc. that stops the program from
starting up

if Mike's steps give you a hassle, take a look around using my suggestion.

Hi Dright,

Perhaps the message is 'task manager' and not 'taskbar?'

Go to task manager by pressing control+alt+delete. With control tab go
to start aps. there, you wil find a list with your apps, if you tab you
will find anable or disable buttons for each app.

I hope this helps.

Hi John,

Try the following:
1. Press, Windows Key + R, to open the Run dialogue.
2. Type in, msconfig, & press enter.
3. Control + Tab, to the Start Page.
4. Arrow up / down through this list using the spacebar to uncheck
anything
in this list that you don't want starting with the computer.
5. Tab, to Okay, & press enter. You will get a dialogue asking if you
want
to restart your computer, choose yes, & restart the computer. The
computer
needs to be restarted for your changes to take affect.
Take care.

Hi Ed,

No, I would not have checked that box. I've set-up 5 or 6 different Windows
7 computers, & have yet to get that option. I just made some changes in,
msconfig, & used the Jaws cursor to review the screen & since I've never
unchecked that checkbox before, it should have been there but, it was not.
Maybe this checkbox becomes unchecked when other settings changes are made
but, you aren't notified aboutit. I'm not arguing that it doesn't exist,
just saying I never unchecked it & I've never saw it.
Take care.

It also gave you a check box to check it you didn't want the message to
come up again. I am guessing you guys put a check in this box which made it
not come up again.

2015-09-15 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I don't know how to get it back other than to make a change in the start up
page and restart the computer. The message has a check box for not showing the
message again on regular start up. Perhaps you checked that and it's bowing to
your wishes? I think if you change the state of something on the Start Up Page
and then restart, you'll get the message until you check the Don't Show This to
Me Again message.

I should add that this is in XP. Although I think, but can't be positive, that
I had to do the same thing in Windows 7. Haven't tried in Windows 10 yet.

I'd add that once your computer restarts, you'll get a check box giving you
the opportunity not to receive an alert about the state in which your

I did check out my W7 on the msconfig start menu and that message came up.
It also gave you a check box to check it you didn't want the message to
come up again. I am guessing you guys put a check in this box which made it
not come up again.

I have been using Windows 7 since it was released, and
on every installation, that dialogue has never come up on re-boot.
You do get it every time a change is made however in Windows XP.

yep, even in 7 it pops up whenever a change is made, but if you opt to

Ok, try this
first run msconfig that is m s c o n f i g
I launch it by depressing the windows key then type into the search box.
Go over to the start up tab.
Going down the list you can unselect anything that you do not want to start
up.
