Michelle, if you don't mind my asking, how big is the full download on that?
The program itself is around 11MB, but the database could be several times that.

Hi all. I have been using this virus scanner for a while but don't know how to
use it properly. How do I get it to do a virus scan or is it possible to have
it running in the background? How do I check to see if this is happening. I
think it is set to running in the background but I want to make sure it's
working properly and catching any viruses etc that may be there.

Thanks.

When the scan is done, I usually use the JAWS curser to read the results.
Not perfect but it provides the information you need.

I am certain that MSE is not compatible with Windows 8.1, since Microsoft
has turned their Windows Defender into a full blown antivirus package. Now,
Deja, if you want something free, you might try going to Control Panel and
turning on Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. That is, if you are
running Windows 8 or 8.1. In windows 7 or earlier, Defender is not a good
choice for antivirus protection.

When the scan is done, I usually use the JAWS curser to read the results.
Not perfect but it provides the information you need.

Help protect your PC with Microsoft Security Essentials
Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* product you can download to help
defend computers running Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 against
viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Note: In Windows 8, Windows Defender replaces Microsoft Security Essentials.
Windows Defender runs in the background and notifies you when you need to
take specific action. However, you can use it anytime to scan for malware if
your computer isn’t working properly or you clicked a suspicious link online

[JAWS-Users] Microsoft security essentials question

2012-09-23 Thread Maheen
Hi gang,
When I have my computer do a scheduled full system scan with microsoft security
essentials, it takes nearly 6 hours to complete the scan. When I scan without a
scan schedule, it takes less than 6 hours almost 2 hours. Does anybody know why
that a scheduled scan is taking so so long for it to complete scanning? When I
have it set to automatically do a full system scan my PC at 10 A.M. it takes so
so long for it to complete scanning. I usually turn off my laptop in the
evenings to give it a break, but when it's scanning I can't do this. Do anyone
know why this is? Thanks!

Russ,

I think you can uninstall AVG from add/remove programs.

There are two different versions of MSSE, depending on what operating
system you use. YOu didn't state which one you have, so here are the
links:

1. XP 32 bit.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-xp.exe

2. Vista  Windows7 32 bit;
http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-vista-win7.exe

3. Vista  Windows7 64 bit;

You can choose a manual quick-scan or thorough scan.

Also, if you open MSSE, tab until you hear the home button, then left arrow

Troy,
I have listened to the install video, sounds simple.
Once installed, can you choose how often a scan is performed, or if you
want to do this manually?

Thank you,
Russ

I use it on my netbook and desktop and find it very accessible with
jaws.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Security Essentials on my netbook

Hi everyone,

I have been using AVG paid version on my netbook and have been having
some

sluggishness with Openbook 9 with the pearl.

A very trusted tech friend, informed me that now, Microsoft Security
Essentials, is the best way to go. He said that many times programs
seem to
become bloated, growing larger as you use them and they add more to
their

program and can slow down your processor.

Awhile back I heard much talk about, Microsoft Security Essentials, on
this
list. Would someone send some information on this? Possibly a link to
the

program?

Lastly, is it safe to uninstall AVG just using the uninstall on the
program

itself?

Thank you

Russ

P.S. I look forward to your daily tips!
