Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question

2014-12-31 Thread Mike Boyd

Tom,

I have discovered the answer to your question I do believe. As it turns out,
an IMAP account cannot save messages to the drafts folder by default in
Outlook, and it cannot be made to do so at this point. As I stated earlier,
they are stored in the Outlook Data File. Here is a link to some discussion
on the Microsoft Answers website dealing with your exact issue:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-outlook/outlook-2010-imap-drafts-saved-to-incorrect/e6fd8117-8054-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5

This should clear the whole thing up for you. Unless Microsoft decides to
change the way Outlook handles saved messages for IMAP accounts, this will
not change.

okay Tom;
just so I'm clear;
have you tried the following?

Change the time interval or location for saving drafts

By default, unfinished messages are saved to your Drafts folder every three
minutes. You can change this time interval or location.

1. Click the File tab.
alt+f=file,
2. Click Options.
here you can press the letter t=options, or, up arrow and enter on options,

3. Click Mail.
here just down arrow until you hear the word mail spoken, 4. Under Save
messages, do one or more of the following:
so use the tab key and look for,
saved messages,

• Change where drafts are saved

• In the Save to this folder list, click Drafts, Inbox, Sent Mail, or
Outbox.
now, you need to make sure that you okay your way out to save the change.
as for changing the default folder startup,

alt+f=files,
T=options,
a=advanced,
now use the tab key, going from memory here, I believe you will see, Outlook
start and exit, anyway, somewhere here there should be a browse button, once
you enter on the browse button, you can use your arrow keys to select the
startup outlook folder.
hope I was able to convey my thoughts properly.
if not, I will try again.
hope this helps.

Hi Tom,
Here's a thought.
If you suspect that what you are experiencing is the cause of a Windows
update, or more specifically, an update to Microsoft Outlook, you could look
through your list of installed updates, and un-install updates to Outlook to
see if the desired behavior is restored.
This could become time-consuming, but may yield the results you are looking

Sometimes there are updates to Microsoft Outlook that are not for security,

If you decide to follow this path, just make sure you understand what you

The thing that is most irritating to me is that I didn't have this issue

Hopefully, if they can fix the issue, they can tell me how they did it, since
it happens on both my main home computer, and my new work laptop.

I suggest calling the Microsoft Accessibility office at 800-936-5900. They can
remote in to your computer, and should be able to figure this out. I have been
impressed with the diligence of the folks in that office. The last time I
called them, I had an issue that they could not figure out, and got hold of
upper level tech support that did figure out the answer. It all happened in
that single phone call. They always send me a subsequent email asking for
feedback on how they did.

Hello, everyone.

I am experiencing a problem with Outlook 2010, that I can't seem to resolve.

If I am writing an e-mail, and find the need to leave my computer before
sending the message, I often like to save my message in the drafts folder.
My usual way of doing this is to hit the escape key, at which time I will be
asked whether I want the message to be saved. Of course, I respond by
answering yes, thinking that all should be well. However, after I do this, I
look for the supposedly saved message in my drafts folder, and it is not there.
I check both my local drafts folder, and the drafts folder under my expanded
outlook folders. The last time this happened, I even checked my drafts folder
on the g-mail web site, under my personal g-mail account, and it was not there
either. I have also checked my deleted items, junk, outbox, and saved folders,
but no message appears there either.

What makes this especially annoying is that I did not have this problem a month
or so ago.

I'm wondering if something has been updated in Windows so as to make this
saving function less easy to perform?

I posted this quiry several days ago on the other Jaws list

j...@lists.the-jdh.com

and although I have gotten several suggestions, none have worked thus far.

One other note: I have tried the control S key command as a way to save

Hi tom,
It seems you have set up multiple accounts in your Outlook 2010.

So if you do a control Y and then a left arrow you can then get to a list that
you can select which account you are in. when you do this and do a test email
to yourself and before you send it hit escape it should automatically go to

Of interest if you have multiple account email accounts you have to be careful

lists are not very well defined once you have more then one email account that

To answer your questions:

When I open Outlook on my home PC, I automatically land in the inbox for my

When I open Outlook on my new work laptop, I automatically land in the inbox
for my work e-mail account.

In either case, I can switch back and forth between both e-mail accounts on
either computer.

My personal e-mail account is a g-mail account, while my work e-mail account
is an Outlook 2010 account created with Microsoft 365.

In all cases, Outlook 2010 is how I access my e-mail.

Is this helping, or have I just confused things further?

so, when you activate the outlook icon from desktop, or where ever you do
this, what folder are you in,

is it the gmail?
or,
is it work email,
and, are these both gmail accounts?
the reason why I ask is?
maybe, by changing the default folder at startup for outlook, you can go
bakc to saving the drafts in the draft folder.
sounds like the default folder has been changed. is this making any scence?

Tom,

Try this:

1. Open Outlook
2. Go to the File menu, and then right arrow over to the next tab, (I cannot
remember what it is called) 3. Tab down to Open Outlook Data File
4. Press Enter on this
5. You will be prompted for the file name, and type the following:
C:\users\Tom\documents\Outlook Files\Outlook Data file name.
6. The name of the Data File should be something like Outlook1. You can
navigate to this location before doing this to double check the file name.
7. On the resulting page that opens, you will find links to view lists of

Thinking a bit outside the box now. What if you put some unique characters

Hi tom,
It seems you have set up multiple accounts in your Outlook 2010.

So if you do a control Y and then a left arrow you can then get to a list
that you can select which account you are in. when you do this and do a test
email to yourself and before you send it hit escape it should automatically
go to draft or you will be asked if you want to save it. If you say yes then
do another control Y and go to draft folder to see if it is there. Do this
for all of your accounts and if the emails are not saved in your draft
folder then something has been clobared (love that term).

Of interest if you have multiple account email accounts you have to be
careful in the lists to ensure you are in the right one for that account. I
find the lists are not very well defined once you have more then one email
account that you traverse back and forth from.

Hmmm, so you want your draft emails to go into the draft email of the
account you are currently in and at this time it does not happen and they
all seem to get dumped into the one folder that being the outlook data file.

Hi tom,
It seems you have set up multiple accounts in your Outlook 2010.

find the lists are not very well defined once you have more then one email
account that you traverse back and forth from.

okay Tom;
just so I'm clear;
have you tried the following?

Change the time interval or location for saving drafts

By default, unfinished messages are saved to your Drafts folder every three
minutes. You can change this time interval or location.

1. Click the File tab.
alt+f=file,
2. Click Options.
here you can press the letter t=options, or, up arrow and enter on options,

3. Click Mail.
here just down arrow until you hear the word mail spoken,
4. Under Save messages, do one or more of the following:
so use the tab key and look for,
saved messages,

• Change where drafts are saved

• In the Save to this folder list, click Drafts, Inbox, Sent Mail, or
Outbox.
now, you need to make sure that you okay your way out to save the change.
as for changing the default folder startup,

alt+f=files,
T=options,
a=advanced,
now use the tab key, going from memory here,
I believe you will see,
Outlook start and exit,
anyway, somewhere here there should be a browse button,
once you enter on the browse button,
you can use your arrow keys to select the startup outlook folder.

Hi Tom,
Here's a thought.
If you suspect that what you are experiencing is the cause of a Windows
update, or more specifically, an update to Microsoft Outlook, you could look
through your list of installed updates, and un-install updates to Outlook to
see if the desired behavior is restored.
This could become time-consuming, but may yield the results you are looking
for.
Sometimes there are updates to Microsoft Outlook that are not for security,
or even critical for that matter, and this is also true of the updates for
the Windows operating system.
If you decide to follow this path, just make sure you understand what you
are removing before doing so.
If you have any questions, just sing out!

Wow, this seems to be much more difficult than it really needs to be.

The thing that is most irritating to me is that I didn't have this issue
with Outlook 2010 up until as recently as a few months ago.

Why Microsoft feels the need to make changes that tamper with someone's
e-mail folder structures is a major mystery to me.

All I know is that it is this sort of thing that is causing more and more
people to shift away from Windows-based operating systems for their
computing needs.

okay Tom;
just so I'm clear;
have you tried the following?

Change the time interval or location for saving drafts

By default, unfinished messages are saved to your Drafts folder every three
minutes. You can change this time interval or location.

1. Click the File tab.
alt+f=file,
2. Click Options.
here you can press the letter t=options, or, up arrow and enter on options,

3. Click Mail.
here just down arrow until you hear the word mail spoken, 4. Under Save
messages, do one or more of the following:
so use the tab key and look for,
saved messages,

• Change where drafts are saved

• In the Save to this folder list, click Drafts, Inbox, Sent Mail, or
Outbox.
now, you need to make sure that you okay your way out to save the change.
as for changing the default folder startup,

alt+f=files,
T=options,
a=advanced,
now use the tab key, going from memory here, I believe you will see, Outlook
start and exit, anyway, somewhere here there should be a browse button, once
you enter on the browse button, you can use your arrow keys to select the
startup outlook folder.
hope I was able to convey my thoughts properly.
if not, I will try again.
hope this helps.

However, after I do
this, I look for the supposedly saved message in my drafts folder, and it is
not there. I check both my local drafts folder, and the drafts folder under
my expanded outlook folders. The last time this happened, I even checked my
drafts

Tom,

Try this:

1. Open Outlook
2. Go to the File menu, and then right arrow over to the next tab, (I cannot
remember what it is called)

7. On the resulting page that opens, you will find links to view lists of
the emails from the folders like Inbox, Drafts, and Deleted Items.

8. Maybe you can find your lost messages here.

Goodluck.

Thinking a bit outside the box now. What if you put some unique characters
in the subject line of a test email, like XX - whatever is
unique. Then do your usual ctrl S or your preferred save to draft
method. Then do a search using the alt key to bring up the Windows 7 Search

search will disclose the location of your saved messages and solve the
mystery of the missing (or AWOL) draft folder. Good luck!

However, after I do
this, I look for the supposedly saved message in my drafts folder, and it is
not there. I check both my local drafts folder, and the drafts folder under
my expanded outlook folders. The last time this happened, I even checked my
drafts folder on the g-mail web site, under my personal g-mail account, and
it was not there either. I have also checked my deleted items, junk,
outbox, and saved folders, but no message appears there either.

What makes this especially annoying is that I did not have this problem a
month or so ago.

I'm wondering if something has been updated in Windows so as to make this
saving function less easy to perform?

I posted this quiry several days ago on the other Jaws list

j...@lists.the-jdh.com

and although I have gotten several suggestions, none have worked thus far.

One other note: I have tried the control S key command as a way to save the
message. However no saving options appear when using this key command.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

P.S. I hope this quiry is not considered to be off topic for this list.

Hello
When I opened up outlook 2010, I use to be able to press the letter of first
name and my curser would go there. For example If I had a e mail from jack
all I would do is press J and and my curser would go to the J's etc...
Can someone help me do that again?
Instead of having to scroll all the way down to an e mail I was looking for?

Hmmm,

You actually need to send the actual word document itself as an
attachment.
I'm not sure if Outlook 2010 has an automated way to handle those
documents.

If not, when you copy the body of the word document, i.e. with the
document

opened, select the entire document with control-a then copy it to your
clipboard with control-c, you could then create a new email message and
paste the text contents in with control-v. When you do it that way, you
are
just sending the body of the document either as .html or as .txt,
depending

on how you have your email client configured to send outgoing messages.

Doug,

I might be in on this late.

How do you arrive at the conclusion that you are sending attachments?
The

reason I am asking is that some anti-virus programs sometimes indicate
that
email messages have attachments when they in fact do not. So, that gives
rise to the question of what anti-virus program you are using? I recall
this was an issue with earlier versions of AVG.
