Re: KR> Auto Pilot comment
Ron, I fly behind an early version GRT efis. I added AP servos after flying off the 40 hours. It makes X country flying so much better being able to relax and enjoy the view outside. I also fly behind P mags. I have no regrets. My KR is a heavy pig with an O 235, but I get 140 kts @ 5.5 -6 gph and a smooth ride. The Dynon efis will work just fine. So much better than steam gauges, and you get an autopilot for a bit more. Dynon, driven by the Dynon D10A, at the time with GPS fed from an Ifly 720.. I have since upgraded to the complete Dynon Skyview system using that same AP. As far as I know, Joe Horton was the first one to put an AP in a KR and it was the Dynon. I asked him to show me his installation at a KR Gathering, and it was so simple that I had to do the same. It takes all the bad bumps and rock 'n roll out of flying the KR on a Cross Country. The hard part is forcing yourself to keep paying attention just like you would if you were holding the stick. Re: KR> Auto Pilot
I can vouch for an autopilot, I installed a trio into my kitfox before a very long XC and it made things much easier (if not too easy). That said, I had to disengage it 30 mins before each destination to regain a feel for the plane. But I had low hours in it at the time. A later update allowed me to set a min airspeed in climb profile so it didnt try to climb against a downdraft/mountain wave and stall or overtemp. Make sure there is no binding of anything when done. Also, once I accidentally bumped the altitude hold button in some light chop, didnt realize it, and thought I had a control problem! I even worked out a plan to slowly descend to farmland ahead, then realized what happened. On Mon, Sep 17, 2018 at 11:15 PM Jeff York via KRnet wrote: > I definitely want to add this to my KR. Re: KR> Auto Pilot
I definitely want to add this to my KR. Not real excited about redoing my panel but to have an autopilot for allowing some sense of security and fatigue relief is a great idea even if its simply for limited hands off relaxation while reading a sectional. Because yes, even with autopilot I follow along on a sectional as I think many other do as well. I think this winter I am going to pull my heads and have them checked and rebuilt if needed simply because its a VW and I think its time to. So, adding this while waiting my turn at the shop, I would like to add this unit and join the next century of panel technology. I am not sure what the Dynon Skyview or D-10 & D-100 box costs but these servos work with either and are $750.00 each. Need one servo for wing leveler or add one more to have pitch control.
