Everyone,

No one has asked you to verify your subscription - or at least no one
from Legacy.

Probably someone is trying to verify they are subscribed due to the
problems some have getting subscribed to this group.

Just ignore as you should ignore any unusual email.

Hello,

Background: To my family file, I have added the names of Revolutionary War
soldiers of the same surname(s) as one of my ancestors. I would like to move
those individuals to a new family file that I will name Revolutionary War.
There are a few hundred of these military records, my total family database has
several thousand records.

Question: How do I move individuals [of the same surname] and their supporting
data, sources, and family members to a new database? I do not want my ancestor
or his descendants in this file. Because the surname has several spelling
options I assume the process is the same for each spelling of the surname.

I use the most recent version of Legacy Deluxe:8.0.0.501.

We have an article on our Tips page on using Legacy on Mac computers.
http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00417

It lists a number of options for installing Windows on a Mac so you can
install Legacy Family Tree. You will require enough RAM and disk space
to run the two operating systems and to create a Windows partition on
your Hard Drive. Perhaps other users can advise you there or you may
find information on the web sites for the software like Parallels,
BootCamp etc. which specify the requirements to use that software.

your Hard Drive. Perhaps other users can advise you there or you may
find information on the web sites for the software like Parallels,

Something can be done. But what In my business, my mail servers are 100%
clean and follow every anti-spam best practice and I still have some messages
blocked by an occasional ISP. A false positive is the response I get when I
ask them to look into it. So, again, I have to ask, what should be done? A
majority of times that I have a customer say that they didn't receive an email,
they find it when they look in their spam box...occasionally it's even in their
normal inbox. They just overlooked it. There are an ever increasing number of
reasons why messages are not received that there is no one answer that will fix
the problem for everyone.

I have that problem with my Hotmail.com email address. Repeatedly. I

Hotmail and Yahoo! addresses are widely known to be major sources of spam and
malware. For this reason, a lot of ISPs and mail servers tend to block these
addresses.

The action is unable to be completed.

Because the above message is sent using mime, the usual way of dealing
with URL's that are too long; by creating a dummy message reply, which
usually puts the whole of the URL as a contiguous string, does not work.

Also, usually, with mailing list software, simply replying to a
subscription request comfirmation message such as the message above,
works to confirm thje subscription. The above message does not so
provide.

So, the action cannot be completed.

Re: [LegacyUG] RE: Verify your subscription to LegacyUserGroup mailing list

2011-12-06 Thread Jerry
There is an ongoing bug which often occurs in the Legacy welcoming
email. Instead of just clicking on the URL address in that email, try
to COPY and PASTE the complete address into your Internet browser,
beginning with http: and going through the entire end of the address
(remove any spaces that might be there), then hit ENTER.

That normally does the trick, so you can RECEIVE messages as well as
POST, but if it does not, then please email:

supp...@legacyfamilytree.com

and ask them to please fix your problem.

your new address, re-subscribe. See the notes at the bottom of this

Close. But not quite the right answer. The given url has an extraneous
space character before the optin.aspx element. That is what causes all
the problems when people try to use it. You'd think that with the number
of complaints that hit the list, this would have been corrected a long
while ago.

Nancy,

Numerous people have had this problem. I'm not sure why you cannot copy and
paste, but since you can't, then type it in letter for letter from Http to .com
without a space and retain the case of all letters.

I can't verify because I can't copy and paste the address and if I click on it
it goes to a blank page.

2010-06-26 Thread Mike Fry
On 2010/06/26 02:58, Larry McCumber wrote:
Typical of this user group (or a large segment of its population) none
of the replies to the OP's original question were helpful. Mike Fry was
snide and downright condescending. There were other ways to ask for
clarification. Then Brian totally high-jacked the thread with total
nonsense, and then high-jacked his own high-jacked thread with another
off topic subject. The OP is probably still wondering WTH happened and
if he should even bother with a clarification. So I've high-jacked
again just to say that this user group, while some are very helpful, has
one of the meanest reputations in the world of genealogy user groups.
It's a shame because some of the members really know the system and
 provide very good help.

No! Read the original non-question. My reply was short and succinct. If
people can't be bothered to provide sufficient information or background
detail when asking a question, why should we try and work out what it
was you were trying to say! If you were a researcher, what would say
when asked to find the life history of John Smith born somewhere in
England, sometime in the 16th century?

The hijacking is a fact of life because people do not understand the
difference between two common verbs or commands: write and reply. They
read a message thread and then click reply to send a new message rather
than using the write command.

According to Chambers Dictionary - an English dictionary, not an

 doesn't exist in English!

On the other hand, there are academic references to the Capitoline Hill

A proper Subject line would help. The indicated subject has come up so
often recently, your message is likely to be ignored by a lot of people.

Proper English would help :-) Spelling. Punctuation. Capitalisation. All
help to better convey the question that you're trying to ask.

Mike, dunno if you put those single quote marks around the word capital on

Which all brings up a good question that's been bothering me for quite a while
and I don't think I've ever seen a real answer to this. Has anybody ever
figured out why Legacy will occasionally (actually frequently) completely lose
track of where the dictionary file is when you do a spell check on some lengthy
notes. It forgets how to spell words such as this, that, home, over, good,
etc. Sometimes the solution has been to simply close the notes windows, reopen
it, and check spelling again. Sometimes that doesn't work and I have to restart
Legacy.

In my own case, I found what I had done, in L5, unintentionally accepted bad

then went into that file and deleted the bad spellings. I was surpised by how
many I had put in. It may not be the same problem.

Sherry,

I had a thought. Couldn't you add to the message an instruction of
what the person should do if the link did not work? Maybe just a line
to say first that some are having problems and then to remove the space
if you have a problem?

Since you're posting to the list, you're subscribed. But, for future
information, that link, provided by Millennia, is broken. And has been
for a considerable period of time. If you look closely at the link,
you'll see that there is a erroneous space character here :--

Don't click on the link, simply copy the link into the address field

your browser. Then, remove the space and then ... we have lift off :-)

RE: [LegacyUG] Re: Verify your subscription to LegacyUserGroup mailing list

2010-06-11 Thread Brian L. Lightfoot
Interesting. I would have assumed that it was simply a typo in the URL text
being generated from your server. But now you are saying that the extraneous
space is being added by hops occurring in the routing. I normally wouldn't put
much credence into that thought but knowing what the Internet is today and the
strange things that can and do occur, I wouldn't doubt it. The one thing that
bugs me about that is the fact that the extraneous space is added at the same
exact place in the URL every time. If you got at least one message back without
the space, then I would suspect a server misconfig somewhere at one identical
hop for the other two messages. But as you said, you have no control over that.

Seems that most people can and have figured it out. Just another one of life's
little annoyances I guess.

Never had to deal with them, so can't give you a precise answer, but you
don't necessarily have to create a new Event. You could use the
Military Event and just enter your ideal sentence in the Notes field.

This can be done for any Event where the standard Sentences don't really
fit.

Actually the Draft Registration Cards are not events but sources. I
would create an event called Registered for Military Draft, create the
sentence structure to read as I want and use the Draft Registration
Cards as the sources for the event.
