Hi This has nothing to do with  Legacy even though I am on it.  I live 
in Vancouver Washington but I grew up mostly in Butte Montana. The only 
Herzog I knew was JoAnn Herzog (I think was her first name.  I am 85 so 
it has been a long time since I left Butte  Actually 1949 when I went to 
college. Anyway just wondering if you were related. It is a name not 
frequently seen.

It has nothing to do with Legacy; it is a Windows restriction.Windows' promised 
fix to that does not work.

The maximum length for a path (file name and its directory route) — also known 
as MAX_PATH — has been defined by 260 characters.


That includes all the keystrokes to get to your destination file. For instance:


D:\Pictures\Genes Images\Churches\Santa Clara a Velha Mosteiro.jpg


D:\Pictures\My Relatives\George's\Margaret\Gregory\Samuel\1997-2007


Spaces take more keystrokes than dashes or undescores.

Wow!  It works.  The left margin went from 3 inches to 1,
just by changing that number in page-setup from 1.25 to 1.
Irrational, but NICE.

1) The geo database contains current locations...not time sensitive locations.  
The county verifier does time sensitive lookups.  They are not based on the 
same tables and sometimes the two are not in sync for the same current location.

2) Reports>Books and Other>Descendant Narrative>Report Options>Page 
Setup...that's where you can define margins, page size, etc.  There is another 
set of options at ...>Descendant Narrative>Page Layout>Custom Report 
Spacing...that may help with your formatting.

the selected 1.25" margin, either.  Where're those commands
stashed?

Thanks.

Allegany is one of "those" words; I'm most familiar with the
Maryland version, but there's Allegheny, Alleghany, and
Allagheny and then the odd-balls. (eyeroll)

Using Animap, I find that in 1748, Oldtown was in Frederick County.  In 
1776, it was in Washington County.  And in 1789 it was in Allegany County.  The 
latitude given was 39.541 and the longitude was 78.611.
I hope that helps.  And you were right; my spell check does not like that 
spelling of Allegany.  of course it does not like my first name either!

Go to View, Split Screen View.
This will bring up a second window that you can open another Legacy file.
You then will have two Legacy files open at the same time and can drag and
drop from one file to the other.

I have done the split screen thing and dragged the them across the two 
monitors. The problem with that is, if you go from one view to another, you 
lose it (like going from the family view to individual view or to the sources 
window).

And yes, you can display the two files on separate monitors - I do it all the 
time.  Make sure the program is in a window and not full screen.  Stretch it 
across the monitor and then adjust the split screen view so one file is on one 
monitor and the other file is on the other monitor.

If you have two different versions of Legacy, once a file has been opened in 
the more recent version, the only way to open it in an older version is to 
create a gedcom in the newer one and import that into the older one.

[LegacyUG] Two questions

1) Is there a way to input multiple sources for a single fact BUT mark one
as preferred so that if I print a report there will be only once source per
fact?  I want to have all my sources in there but if I have 15 sources for a
birth date I don't want all 15 to print.  It makes the report rather
awkward.  Even better, can I mark more than one source as preferred so if I
am using indirect evidence to prove something then the 2 or 3 sources I need
will print and not all 15?

2) Can I have two Legacy's installed on my computer at the same time?  Here
is what I want to do.  I want to transfer people from one Legacy file to
another one at a time as soon as I get them cleaned up (sourced correctly).
I have 22 year's worth of research in my file and a lot of it was done
before I knew how to do quality research.  Also, as I work on each family
group, I want to get all of their documents scanned and attached so that
everything is in one place. I will be doing my direct line and their
siblings first, then slowly bring in collateral lines.  I CAN open two
Legacy files at the same time but I can't display one file on one monitor
and the other file on the other (yes, I know I can stretch it across two
screens but it isn't the same thing as having two completely different files
open).  I could wait until Legacy 8 comes out and then install Legacy 8 as a
