Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 11:46:17 -0500 From: "mda" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Enhanced docking port Hi Karen - Have enjoyed reading your posts on the libretto list over the last few weeks. Sorry to hear your lib gets hot on the enhanced replicator. Mine stays a lot cooler now that i'm using the pcmcia fan. I'm wonderinghave you ever had a thermal shutdown? Mine used to shut down a couple times a day because it got too hot. I should have taken it more seriously...after 6-9 months of that, the motherboard died. You are wise to watch how hot the libretto gets. Bought another libretto and have only used it WITH the fan. I always use the libretto with the enhanced replicator and it has NEVER had a thermal shutdown :). It sounds like you may not be using all the functionality of the enhanced replicator. I use ALL the connectors on the back of mineat two locations, home and work. It makes the lib powerful and convenient. And keeps the heat of the modem or network card farther away from my cpu. You had another post that asked how David gets his libretto to shut down without the power saver functions installed. Personally, i uninstalled all power saving software on my machine. I was losing my network connection every time i went into suspend mode. Then i'd have to shut down all my applications and log onto the network again. Was a real pain. My libretto has always shut down automatically from the windows menu without using the power button. ...yours should be able to do that, too Before i was blessed with the lib, i to lug around a compaq. There were several times that I.T. professionals "upgraded" my machine and made it hang every time i tried to shut down. It always took an afternoon and a couple glasses of brandy to figure out which driver was hanging the machine. Once fixed, it always shut down successfully. Yours can, too. --mda -Original Message- From: Karen Reynolds [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, July 06, 2000 9:16 PM To: Libretto Subject: Re: Enhanced docking port Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 19:10:21 -0700 From: Karen Reynolds [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Enhanced docking port mda wrote: Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 10:55:40 -0500 From: "mda" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Enhanced docking port I have the pleasure of using enhanced port replicators at work and home for my 50CT. ...and had continuous problems with suspend, overheating, and network hardware. snip Hi Mark, I noticed that also when I was connected to the enhanced dock... when I removed the Lib, it was very warm on the bottom... after hearing all the war stories so far, am almost convinced to not even use it, but just stick with the small I/O port. I hope this is just an isolated incident. Only time will tell... sigh... I installed W98SE with nothing connected to the Libby but the power cord. Is that clean enough?? Win98SE recognized the EPR and installed the new hardware. Everything has been working like a charm ever since. I'd like a list of exactly what you did AFTER installing W98SE... maybe it's the Toshiba upgrades and the order I did them that is the trouble... That is the feature that was giving me fits after installing W98SE... I was having to push the power button again and again in order to get it to shut off. It looks to me that Toshiba's site only talks about installing W98 on top of W95... which gives one all the neat controls and accessories that we installed after W95, remember?? So... how does one get all those neat thingys back under a clean install of W98se?? Karen gg "David T. Gillis" wrote: Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 00:06:19 -0400 From: "David T. I've heard a lot of people conplained about the unstableness of the USB connection of the enhanced dockingstation. It acted very unstable and unhappy. Going into Device Mgr it all looked ok d clicked on the 'Computer' and there was about 8 to 12 devices under interrupt 11 I shut it off at that point. It looks normal. Libretto BIOS put all PCI devices to share on IRQ. So I don't know what I did... or if there was something I should have done first. Yeah. Don't waste your money on an enhanced docking station even a used one:) Buy a USB card instead. That is the only extras the docking station gives you. snip Lawrence ** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ ---UNSUBSCRIBE--- mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=cmd:unsubscribe UNSUBSCRIBE DIGEST-- Use above but add DIGEST to the subject line... **

Anyone here still have the instruction sheet that came with theirs?? and willing to share what it says?? Or know where a copy is out on the net?? There isn't much need for an instruction manual for the enhanced port replicator. You just switch the Libretto off, turn it upside down and slide the cover back over the connector, then push fit it onto the enhanced port replicator. To attach mains power, you plug your Libretto power lead in to the socket on the enhanced port replicator. All the ports on th docking station should work automatically. To detach the Libretto, turn it off, then use the little lever on the back to pop it off the connector. I did that was the easy part :-) To attach mains power, you plug your Libretto power lead in to the socket on the enhanced port replicator. Figured out that one too! All the ports on the docking station should work automatically. Well, now here is where the fun began I had just done a clean install of W98 and got everything working great so decided it was time for the next step... the enhanced dock... When I booted up, it 'found new hardware' and installed a BUNCH of stuff from the W98 folder (which I have on the last partition of the hdd) after that was all over and the desktop was up when I would click on a menu, it wouldn't stay open; when I clicked on stuff to start, other things would start instead. So I don't know what I did... or if there was something I should have done first. I guess I'll have to contact Toshiba and see if I can get my hands on the instructions that came with the dock... I just hoped that someone here would have them.
