Hi Karen -

Have enjoyed reading your posts on the libretto list over the last few
weeks. Sorry to hear your lib gets hot on the enhanced replicator. Mine
stays a lot cooler now that i'm using the pcmcia fan. I'm wonderinghave
you ever had a thermal shutdown? Mine used to shut down a couple times a
day because it got too hot. I should have taken it more seriously...after
6-9 months of that, the motherboard died. You are wise to watch how hot the
libretto gets. Bought another libretto and have only used it WITH the fan.
I always use the libretto with the enhanced replicator and it has NEVER had
a thermal shutdown :).

It sounds like you may not be using all the functionality of the enhanced
replicator. I use ALL the connectors on the back of mineat two
locations, home and work. It makes the lib powerful and convenient. And
keeps the heat of the modem or network card farther away from my cpu.

You had another post that asked how David gets his libretto to shut down
without the power saver functions installed. Personally, i uninstalled all
power saving software on my machine. I was losing my network connection
every time i went into suspend mode. Then i'd have to shut down all my
applications and log onto the network again. Was a real pain. My libretto
has always shut down automatically from the windows menu without using the
power button. ...yours should be able to do that, too

Before i was blessed with the lib, i to lug around a compaq. There were
several times that I.T. professionals "upgraded" my machine and made it hang
every time i tried to shut down. It always took an afternoon and a couple
glasses of brandy to figure out which driver was hanging the machine. Once
fixed, it always shut down successfully. Yours can, too.

No, I didn't leave it on the dock long enough for that to happen.

I'd like to pipe in about the enhanced dock and shutdown. The instructions
with the enhanced dock say to remove the machine is a 2 step process...

Start...eject. This will inform Winders that yuo want a dock chance but NOT
actually put the machine to sleep. Then ( probably from the regular

then remove it.

Or I just skip the 2 steps and shut it off before removing. They didn't do

I've heard a lot of people conplained about the unstableness of the USB
connection of the enhanced dockingstation.

It acted very unstable and unhappy. Going into Device Mgr it all
looked ok d clicked on the 'Computer' and there was about 8 to
12 devices under interrupt 11 I shut it off at that point.

It looks normal. Libretto BIOS put all PCI devices to share on IRQ.

So I don't know what I did... or if there was something I should
 have done first.

Yeah. Don't waste your money on an enhanced docking station even a used
one:) Buy a USB card instead. That is the only extras the docking station
gives you.

I guess I'll have to contact Toshiba and see if I can get my hands
on the instructions that came with the dock... I just hoped that
 someone here would have them.

I don't think you need any instructions on it. There is no switch to flip:).
Search Toshiba web site to see if there is any updated drivers for the
devices on the enhanced docking station.

I use my L100CT as my only machine and the Enhanced Port Replicator has been
great. The USB port has worked with no problems. I use a USB printer, CDRW
drive, and HandSpring Visor USB sync cradle. I also have a USB PC Card for
when I'm on the road. In fact using the USB Pc card with the EPR gives me 3
USB ports and they all work together nicely.

The only thing I did different from you was that I installed Win98SE without
having the EPR connected. After all the appropriate Toshiba drivers were
installed and confirmed to work, I powered off the L100CT, then connected
the EPR and restarted. Win98SE recognized the EPR and installed the new
hardware. Everything has been working like a charm ever since.

Hope this helps.

Search Toshiba web site to see if there is any updated drivers for the

I use my L100CT as my only machine and the Enhanced Port Replicator has
been
great. The USB port has worked with no problems. I use a USB printer, CDRW
drive, and HandSpring Visor USB sync cradle. I also have a USB PC Card for
when I'm on the road. In fact using the USB Pc card with the EPR gives me
3
USB ports and they all work together nicely.

USB hubs can be had for around $20 and give you 4+ extra ports.

Here are the instructions I followed from Toshiba's site for installing
Win98SE on my L100CT. This page list the order in which they reccommend the
drivers be installed.

I think you are bragging :-)

But if mine worked that great, I'd be bragging too :-) And
 maybe I bragged too soon
about how great my clean W98SE install was so it just waited

I've come to the conclusion that PC's all have a
 personality... mine at home is
lazy: ie... no more than one or two programs open at any one
 time. Serious!

The one at work says 'sock it to me'... the more apps open,
 the better!

Now the Libby it waits, plans and schemes on how to
 retaliate :-)

I really hope not... I hope this is just an isolated incident.

 Only time will tell... sigh...

I installed W98SE with nothing connected to the Libby but the power
 cord. Is that clean enough??

Win98SE recognized the EPR and installed the new
hardware. Everything has been working like a charm ever since.

I'd like a list of exactly what you did AFTER installing W98SE...
maybe it's the Toshiba upgrades and the order I did them that is the
 trouble...

David,

Is the Power Save driver the one that shuts the power off when
you Start..., Shut down... , Shut down??

That is the feature that was giving me fits after installing W98SE...
I was having to push the power button again and again in order to
get it to shut off.

It looks to me that Toshiba's site only talks about installing W98 on
top of W95... which gives one all the neat controls and accessories
that we installed after W95, remember??

So... how does one get all those neat thingys back under a clean
install of W98se??

Karen

You asked:

I got my enhanced docking port used - without any instructions.

Anyone here still have the instruction sheet that came with
theirs?? and willing to share what it says?? Or know where
a copy is out on the net??

There isn't much need for an instruction manual for the enhanced
port replicator.

You just switch the Libretto off, turn it upside down and slide the
cover back over the connector, then push fit it onto the enhanced
port replicator.

To attach mains power, you plug your Libretto power lead in to the
socket on the enhanced port replicator.

All the ports on th docking station should work automatically.

To detach the Libretto, turn it off, then use the little lever on the back
to pop it off the connector.

For a bunch of other Libretto tips, see:

Well, now here is where the fun began I had just done a clean
