Today I installed elyxer (again),

I choose the elegant way as described in the user-guide, see
file:///Users/joachim/RunnerLaae/La_TeXLyX/elyxer2009-12/docs/userguide-frameset.html
at the end of subsection 1.2.

The last Terminal command which I did on my Mac-OSX was:
sudo python setup.py install
- with success, no error message!

But I don't understand the meaning of the last phrase in the subsection  
1.2:


From now on we will assume that you are running elyxer.py as an  
executable file,
= but you should substitute that for python -m elyxer if you have opted  
for this elegant procedure.


In the following parts of this section of the user guide, I only see the  
commands with

$ elyxer.py … - and not with python -m elyxer.
Therefore I'm tangeled (afraid to do something wrong).

Hope that Alex elyxer Fernandez or someone using the elegantly  
installed elyxer can answer to my question, what python -m elyxer is for…

friendly by Alex in the Acknowledgments). But because of my complicated  
tufte classes, I decided to wait for further devolopements. Now making a

for any input from you. By the way, maybe you could kindly request BH,
the Mac OS X maintainer for LyX, to include eLyXer in his installer. I
corresponded with him earlier on and his main concern was
maintainability of eLyXer; hopefully now that the Windows alt
installer and Debian are distributing eLyXer he will be more willing
to do it; his is the only major platform where eLyXer is not
distributed at all. Of course there are all the other Linux
distributions (besides Debian) as well...

each month.


But I can sure see a lot of easier tools to use for a calender,  
especially if

you know a little bit of scripting language programming.


The PGF/TikZ package contains a quite decent calendar library. Within  
LyX you have to use ERT as it is a LaTeX package, but its relatively  
easy to use.

examples,  i have pgf installed but do I need to install TikZ as a
separate package, under ubuntu ?

or are they one package.

I agree! After the first run I'm really impressed!

A rather challanging lyx file with 4 pages (when pdf) with older  
westphalian-saxon verses were well structured transformed into html. With  
the footnotes (here as the tufte style specific margin notes) as margin

notes (span class=Flex or however it is called in html source code).
And with the bibliographical reference on the end (where I put the link to  
the bibtex file into the LyX document. Even the margin figures were in the  
margin (linked to there temporary place in the LyX tmp dir).


Few problems are remaining:

- The strophes/stanzas within the single poems are not separated (done in
LyX with paragraph break instead of newline);
- a complicated sidenote in the abstract (vertically shifted by a TeX
inset and with a /citep{…} within) had not been placed into the margin,
but it's LyX text between the TeX-insets was within the abstract text)
- a special tufte cls and layout inset (called numbered margin note or
the like) which I put into one poem has not been translocated to the
margin but remained as additional row in the poem.
- In the bibliography (bibtex) reference the German umlauts are in the
LaTeX manner, e. g. »o« instead of »ö«, but I remember you mention this
problem in 3.1 Known Issues.

Some of these problems might be resolvable with user-defined accommodation
within the css. But that'a field I might achieve in future…

But I didn't want to go into these issues en details, in the moment, but
give an enthused first echo. After further experimenting I'll come back
more precisely, perhaps better on your Elyxer-users mailing list.

Book Section: LaTeX Document Classes

Dear LyX Users,

A little over a month ago, I wrote to the list about a book that I am
currently writing.  While the book is broadly about open source tools
and scientific/professional writing, there will be a rather large
section that covers LaTeX and LyX.

In my first email, I requested input as to what sorts of topics would be
most valuable.  One of the most commonly requested topics both on the
list and in personal communication was an overview of the different
LaTeX classes and when they should be used.

I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to create just that
sort of section.  And while it is not yet complete, it is far enough
along that I would like to begin soliciting feedback.

One of the challenges I have found in preparing this section is that
there is a huge amount of material describing the classes and their use.
Trying to determine which material would be most useful has proven
extremely challenging.  I've finally settled on four goals:

1.) Describe the class and its majoruses
2.) Show example output; showcase the style, layout and fonts
3.) Discuss notable special features will be described; provides
examples of their use for both LaTeX and LyX users

At present, the document summarizes the standard classes (article,
report, book and letter), memoir (some special features still need to be
included), KOMA-Script (scrartcl, scrbook, scrrpt, scrltr; the write-up
is still incomplete), Beamer, and Tufte.

If you would be interesting in previewing/offering feedback, please send
me a private email.  The chapter PDF is too large to send through the
mailing list and it is likely that my publisher would have a coronary if
I started posting chapter drafts before they had been reviewed.  As a
result, I will need to disseminate it through private mail.

Nevertheless, I would be very interest in feedback on the style,
language, or content.  I would also love to hear any positive and
negative thoughts that members of the group might have.

having reasonable citekeys is good once you do final polishing of exported tex
file and also good for orientation in lyx citation dialog. i didn't get if

I want to keep them readable, so the LyX dialog can be used side 
 by side with Zotero, e.g. to change text before and after, because this 
 cannot be done through the pipe (only insertion is possible).

once you feel like having stable version i wouldn't mind putting some advert
into news section of lyx main page. just let us now.

yep, this was the main complaint in bug #6300. i expect two usecases -

* users who dont care a about citekeys and just want to externally push
  citations and need to keep bitex keys stable. for these zotero ID is the way.

* users who care about keys and need the stable bibtex keys too. for those
  the customizable citekey is the way. in this case is expecting users to
  be intelligent about the keys certainly in order.

 I have already published the plugin at Firefox addons, to spread the word 
 and get more tests done. I am using it on windows and linux and it works 
 rather smoothly. However it does seem to work on Mac. Unfortunately I don't 
 have Mac and I don't know a thing about it.

if there is contact on the addon page i'm sure they will make you know
if some problem occcurs :)

btw i searched through the web for the zotero/lytero/lyz and found your question
about omitting the mozilla dialog about overwriting file. just occured me that
deleting the file beforehead would do the job, no?

Yes, I had been one of the first users of elyxer on Mac (mentioned  
friendly by Alex in the "Acknowledgments"). But because of my complicated  
tufte classes, I decided to wait for further devolopements. Now making a  
new warm-up with it.

Fear not. You can run everything using "python -m elyxer" just as
"elyxer.py". I have modified the User Guide to include some examples,
starting with the generic command line:
  $ python -m elyxer [options] [source file] [destination file]

I will also answer it in the User Guide: you are running eLyXer as a
Python module, which means that you don't need to know its location on
your system.

You are a patient and intelligent collaborator; I am eagerly waiting
for any input from you. By the way, maybe you could kindly request BH,
the Mac OS X maintainer for LyX, to include eLyXer in his installer. I
corresponded with him earlier on and his main concern was
maintainability of eLyXer; hopefully now that the Windows alt
installer and Debian are distributing eLyXer he will be more willing
to do it; his is the only major platform where eLyXer is not
distributed at all. Of course there are all the other Linux
distributions (besides Debian) as well...

each month.


But I can sure see a lot of easier tools to use for a calender,  
especially if

you know a little bit of scripting language programming.


The PGF/TikZ package contains a quite decent calendar library. Within  
LyX you have to use ERT as it is a LaTeX package, but its relatively  
easy to use.

I have found http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/ to give a few good
examples,  i have pgf installed but do I need to install TikZ as a
separate package, under ubuntu ?

or are they one package.

I agree! After the first run I'm really impressed!

A rather challanging lyx file with 4 pages (when pdf) with older  
westphalian-saxon verses were well structured transformed into html. With  
the "footnotes" (here as the tufte style specific margin notes) as margin

notes ( or however it is called in html source code).
And with the bibliographical reference on the end (where I put the link to  
the bibtex file into the LyX document. Even the margin figures were in the  
margin (linked to there temporary place in the LyX tmp dir).


Few problems are remaining:

- The strophes/stanzas within the single poems are not separated (done in
LyX with paragraph break instead of newline);
- a complicated sidenote in the abstract (vertically shifted by a TeX
inset and with a /citep{…} within) had not been placed into the margin,
but it's LyX text between the TeX-insets was within the abstract text)
- a special tufte cls and layout inset (called "numbered margin note" or
the like) which I put into one poem has not been translocated to the
margin but remained as additional row in the poem.
- In the bibliography (bibtex) reference the German umlauts are in the
LaTeX manner, e. g. »"o« instead of »ö«, but I remember you mention this
problem in "3.1 Known Issues".

Some of these problems might be resolvable with user-defined accommodation
within the css. But that'a field I might achieve in future…

But I didn't want to go into these issues en details, in the moment, but
give an enthused first echo. After further experimenting I'll come back
more precisely, perhaps better on your Elyxer-users mailing list.

Book Section: LaTeX Document Classes

Dear LyX Users,

A little over a month ago, I wrote to the list about a book that I am
currently writing.  While the book is broadly about open source tools
and scientific/professional writing, there will be a rather large
section that covers LaTeX and LyX.

In my first email, I requested input as to what sorts of topics would be
most valuable.  One of the most commonly requested topics both on the
list and in personal communication was an overview of the different
LaTeX classes and when they should be used.

I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to create just that
sort of section.  And while it is not yet complete, it is far enough
along that I would like to begin soliciting feedback.

One of the challenges I have found in preparing this section is that
there is a huge amount of material describing the classes and their use.
Trying to determine which material would be most useful has proven
extremely challenging.  I've finally settled on four goals:

1.) Describe the class and its majoruses
2.) Show example output; showcase the style, layout and fonts
3.) Discuss notable special features will be described; provides
examples of their use for both LaTeX and LyX users

At present, the document summarizes the standard classes (article,
report, book and letter), memoir (some special features still need to be
included), KOMA-Script (scrartcl, scrbook, scrrpt, scrltr; the write-up
is still incomplete), Beamer, and Tufte.

If you would be interesting in previewing/offering feedback, please send
me a private email.  The chapter PDF is too large to send through the
mailing list and it is likely that my publisher would have a coronary if
I started posting chapter drafts before they had been reviewed.  As a
result, I will need to disseminate it through private mail.

Nevertheless, I would be very interest in feedback on the style,
language, or content.  I would also love to hear any positive and
negative thoughts that members of the group might have.

having reasonable citekeys is good once you do final polishing of exported tex
file and also good for orientation in lyx citation dialog. i didn't get if

customizable keys why to remove it.

yep, this was the main complaint in bug #6300. i expect two usecases -

* users who dont care a about citekeys and just want to externally push
  citations and need to keep bitex keys stable. for these zotero ID is the way.

* users who care about keys and need the stable bibtex keys too. for those
  the "customizable" citekey is the way. in this case is expecting users to
  be intelligent about the keys certainly in order.

btw i searched through the web for the zotero/lytero/lyz and found your question

deleting the file beforehead would do the job, no?
