You can change the document language. See the panell
Document->Settings...->Language
and select from the drop-down languages.

I think the reason is that the macro definitions are not part of any latex
output.
Since ADV-Find is using (mostly) unchanged output created for latex, the defs
are neither
in the search buffer, nor in searched buffer.
Sure, it can be fixed, but needs more work.

Alternatively you could use symbols from

or use unicode direct with

Maybe a local format containing

Format 104
Provides hyperref 1
helps?
This disables loading of hyperref, so that it has to be loaded in the user

There is a problem with the path to default.def.

The use of this file does not consider the 'userdir' option.

Since EBGaramond is in texlive, you have to make it known to your system too.
To verify try
$ fc-list | egrep -i garamond
If no output, so your system does not know about garamond.

Making texlive fonts known (on uubuntu) do
  # sudo ln -s ../conf.avail/09-texlive-fonts.conf

  # sudo cp `kpsewhich -var-value

So, you do not have a working texlive. How should we now be able to help?
Check for the path of kpsewhich
 $ which kpsewhich tlmgr
/usr/local/texlive/2022/bin/x86_64-linux/kpsewhich
/usr/local/texlive/2022/bin/x86_64-linux/tlmgr

If this is OK, then you may try
 $ tlmgr update --repository ctan --all --reinstall-forcibly-removed

Of course not. Log is created by your latex executable, and, as you mentioned
in other mail, there was no compilation start.

You may check for working kpsewhich first.
Try
$ kpsewhich -var-value=TEXMFROOT
gives here '/usr9/local/texlive/2022'

You can try to use different latex executable.
Also maybe your path to working latex execs is wrong.
In any case, you could use option '-dbg files' to get a hint about used dirs.

(Search for 'Temporary file ` something ' created'
 there should be a directory 'lyx_tmpbuf0', this is what we are after)

The log-file is in the lyx-temp-directory (this changes with each session, so
do not exit
lyx)

Use
Document->LaTeX Log->Open Containing Directory
from within LyX. You should get some file manager open this dir.

Nothing is passed to any terminal. You meant Operating system (like via exec()).
Unfortunately there is no debug output showing the used syscall params.

> when I do "View"
> and what is the command when I do "Export"?

Essentially the same commands IMO. Only that as last action the desired output
file(s)
should be copied to the destination directory.

View in the meaning of 'preview', that is 'do not
mess the source dir. This prevents unwanted overwrites.

With export you select manually what you want to have saved.

If you export as pdf or any other format, the file is created in the source
directory of
the lyx-file.
The files you see in the temp-dir are intermediate files only, not the exported
files.

Why is this a techy way? The preferences are the way user selects his desired
behaviour
IMHO.

I'd like to point out, that we are speaking about the display of fonts with

Use custom and fill the box with the path to your favourite pdf viewer.
You may not need the full path, if your pdf-viewer is directly accessible.

Select

Select there the relevant PDF output, e.g. 'PDF (pdflatex)'

It feels like you use a the native file dialog and lyx does not correct handle
it.
Please check your 'preferences' file ( in the .lyx dir) for the entry
\use_native_filedialog true
If not there, you could enter (via text-editor) the line
\use_native_filedialog false.

Steve, I am not the one to make the fix, but I think you are right.
It _IS_ very helpful to get bug-info together with a hint what seems to be
missing.

As to the forwarding to developer-list, don't worry. They read the user-list
too.

Thanks for the report.

I am using US International keyboard. And here it works.
The lyx code looks like this:

\begin_layout Standard
eine
\begin_inset Quotes gld
\end_inset

Klammer
\begin_inset Quotes grd
\end_inset

\end_layout

As you can see, there is 'gld' and 'grd'. In order to match are both converted
to
'"' at search time. But this is done for advanced search only.

It should not matter, on each keyboard there is '"'.
(If you insert in a German document e.g. 'eine "Klammer"', you get
 'eine „Klammer“' in lyx)

What was your exact value for userdir? The string
/home/wolfgang/Dokumente/PUBLIKATIONEN-EIGENE/A-SP-2022/A-SP-WITTE-E-2022FEB21-Master.lyx
is totally weird for a userdir.

I tried the same (e.g. lyx -dbg gui) but using also non-existing userdir.

The command I used was:
$ lyx2.4 -userdir ~/.lyx.test -dbg gui

The first thing I was asked if I want to create this new dir.
(Since you did not mention anything like that, I suppose you are using an old
userdir)

The output was similar to yours (but without the xcb-error-messages)

So I propose to try with a non-existing userdir.

Wolfgang, we try to determine the cause to avoid future similar problems.
So you could try to proceed as requested too.

OK, so
1.) what is the name of the executable?
2.) have you installed?
3.) if not, you should go to the build-directory and start lyx
 somehow like "./bin/lyx -userdir ~/.lyxnew"

The -sysdir command has nothing to do with your private data.
It should point to your installed lyx-data (probably at /usr/local/share/lyx2.4/

Not '-tester', use -userdir.

That way you can use new preferences without being afraid of to butcher
your old ones.

At least, we could see, if your settings are the culprit.

Mark, that if you want to use both versions simultaneously, you should compile
with
version suffix.
Add to automake configure parameters:
"--with-version-suffix=2.4"
or, if you build with cmake,
add to cmake configure eparameters:
"-DLYX_PROGRAM_SUFFIX:BOOL=ON -DLYX_LOCALVERSIONING:BOOL=ON"

depending on which build tool you use.
The resulting lyx-executable will be named "lyx2.4".

It may be that /usr/bin/lyx is provided by your package manager. So removing it
manually would be a very bad style IMO.

Better to set
a;) either your PATH to have /usr/local/bin prior to /usr/bin
or
b;) if your OS is debian based, use synaptic to withdraw the lyx.
You may also check if the '/usr/bin/lyx' belongs to a package
$ dpkg -S `which lyx`

Math. The mail from Tobias clearly describes it too.
 "Tools -> Settings -> Edit -> Autocompletion, set "Automatic popup" and

You could check your new lyxrc.default for all lines containing "mupdf"
and add them to the file 'preferences'. This file is not changed by reconfigure.
Any entry in preferences will be preferenced over the ones in lyxrc.default.

This way the fonts _are_ non-tex-fonts.

The system has to know these otf-non-tex-fonts (this is misleading I know) form
texlive.

...

However,
tlmgr install: package already present: anonymouspro

I am confused...

Sure, texlive knows them, but your system does not.
Here for example:
 $ fc-list -f '%{fullname}\n' | egrep -i Anonymous
Anonymous Pro Bold Italic
Anonymous Pro Bold
Anonymous Pro
Anonymous Pro Italic

No, running 2.3.x gives no errors here. You have to enable the tex-fonts for
your system.
(Look at the conversation with subject 'LyX says Tex Gyra Schola is not
installed, but I
installed it' on this list.)

You have to add these texlive fonts to your system.

1.) create file "/etc/fonts/conf.d/09-texlive-fonts.conf"
e.g.
$ sudo cp `kpsewhich -var-value
TEXMFSYSVAR`/fonts/conf/texlive-fontconfig.conf
/etc/fonts/conf.avail/09-texlive-fonts.conf
make a symbolic link for your system
$ sudo ln
-s ../conf.avail/09-texlive-fonts.conf
/etc/fonts/conf.d/09-texlive-fonts.conf
The content should be something like:

  /usr/local/texlive/2021/texmf-dist/fonts/opentype
  /usr/local/texlive/2021/texmf-dist/fonts/truetype
  /usr/local/texlive/2021/texmf-dist/fonts/type1
  /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/fonts/opentype
  /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/fonts/truetype
  /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/fonts/type1

provided you installed texlive under /usr/local/texlive/2021
2.) Make your system aware of this
$ sudo fc-cache -fsv

3.) Reconfigure lyx

libqt5webkit5-dev:amd64

A little more info needed.
Do you compile with automake or cmake?
What is the exact message if running the make?

Trying
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all=all=any=gtk+qt5=all
gives many packages for ubuntu20.04, but nothing seem appropriately.
(Maybe 'qt5-gtk-platformtheme', but no matching library there.)

1.) I wonder about the name 'preferences.txt'. In case this is wrong, look at
Help->About LyX->user directory
The preferences file should be in this directory
2.) Add the line there (After the line with 'Format 34'
3.) No need to reconfigure. You have to restart lyx though, so lyx can read
preferences
again

4.) If that does not work, check the log-file 'configure.log' (in the same
directory)
Should contain the lines
INFO: checking for the pdflatex program...
INFO: +checking for "pdflatex"...  yes

Steve, I am upgrading daily, nothing problematic.

 $ tlmgr update --persistent-downloads --all

Sometimes there is a need to update first the tlmgr itself, so you are forced
to first use

 $ tlmgr update --self

You could define some standard keys to help you. Look into slovak.kmap
Here '=' for instance works as dead_acute for the chars
aceilnorsuyzACEILNORSUYZ.
Don't forget to use your new kmap.

Tools->Preferences...->Editing->Keyboard/Mouse->Use_keyboard map->Primary
