Re: spell check primer
If you use Quick Nav, turn it off to use spell check features as outlined in all the instructions you are about to receive. Once Quick Nav is turned off, then down arrow once. If this does not yield the suggestion list, left arrow until back into the misspelled word then down arrow once. If there's more than one suggestion, right arrow, which is totally counterintuitive to what you do in Windows spell check. When you find the suggestion you want, hit enter. Hope that helps. Re: spell check primer
The other way to do this is longer, but you should know it just in case. Put your cursor anywhere on the misspelled word and bring up the context menu with vo-shift-m. The first items are the spelling suggestions; move to one and hit enter to use it. Below these are the ignore and learn options, which will temporarily mark the word as correct, or add it to your dictionary so it is always correct, respectively. Those two options are the main advantage of this method, as they do not appear in the suggestions list you can get by moving to the end of the word. Re: spell check primer
Correct, though I'm surprised you can do much of anything in text with Quicknav enabled. I tend to have it off 95% of the time, and only use it to get around webpages or large windows like iTunes. Oh, I don't know if anyone mentioned these, but cmd-semicolon will move you to the next misspelled word, and cmd-shift-semicolon will check the document in a separate dialog. Yes, you might try switching it to desktop mode. I admit that I stopped using menuTab once I realized that it has always simply presented the website pages. I always have Safari open, so it doesn't matter to me whether I have a standalone application for Facebook. keeping old GarageBand version after Upgrading to V10
Is it possible to upgrade to GB V10 from V6.0.5 and still be able to use V6.0.5? GB did not get the same treatment and I still have the older, more accessible version on my system. I also use a homegrown automated system of making daily snapshots of my working folders (anything which is currently in a state of development), and migrate the latest snapshot to the dropbox at the end of the week. I do this because once its in DB, its the final copy, and if you screw up and put a flawed document into dropbox, it becomes the new master copy - there's no way to get back to the unflawed version. daily Snapshots gives me a week to catch any screwups and correct them before they become written in stone (dropbox). I played for a while today trying to build an AppleScript to do this but there aren't enough Pages features scriptable yet for me to make it work. At least, in my limited knowledge of Apple Scripting. If I could just get it to duplicate the file while in Pages, I think I could make it work for you, otherwise, it just errors out when attempting to save the document as a Pages document. Re: How do you follow someone in Night Owl?
Indeed there is, but it isn't a keyboard shortcut. Find a tweet from the person (use cmd-u if you don't have them in your selected tab already). Once you are on a tweet from them, move left or right until you find the drawer. Interact, find and open the user action menu, arrow down to following status, hit right arrow to open it, and choose 'follow. It sounds more complicated than it is, but it still isn't as easy as a keystroke or menu command. That's great, thanks! Have you tried looking through previous versions? Is it accessible? How does it work for you? I almost never use the website interface because I used to find it kind of clunky. How do you go about doing it Matt. I get a prompt to upgrade from within the old version, but I'm afraid if I do that it'll overwrite the old version and I won't build to get it back. Re: jump to window with braille edge and mac
You can re-assign the keys on any braille display for the Mac. The best way to figure things out is to toss out the Hims command list, except for special scroll key commands, and go off what the Mac says. Open up your display settings, go to assign commands, and look at the table; those are the mappings your Edge will use. As to the vo-j, yes, that's the command I mean. VoiceOver calls it jump to linked item, and if memory serves, it's in the Nvigation menu when you are choosing the command. Re: jump to window with braille edge and mac
Don, More confusing than it should be! LOL Here is what I have. Both links are from Apple. This one is the list of HIMS specific commands. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5529 This one is the common iOS commands and applies to the Mac as well as the iPhone. But, its old, from 2012. Alex has a good idea if I understand him correctly. That is, to go into display settings on the Mac and look at the mapping table. Too late for me to try tonight but I wonder if this list can be saved to a file. Anyway, we are getting there. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4400?viewlocale=en_USlocale=en_US Quote of the nanosecond . . . Robert, I couldn't agree with you more regarding the command lists. The whole thing is very confusing. Most lists I've seen talk about the most commonly used commands, but I want a list of each and every available command. Re: jump to window with braille edge and mac
Sorry I wasn't clearer. Hit VO-f8 to open the Voiceover Utility. Arrow down to Braille, vo-right to the displays tab, and hit space. Find the table of displays, and arrow to the Edge, then vo-right to the Assign Commands button. That opens a window with the full list of commands and their braille keys, plus instructions on how to change an assignment if you want to. Why I am so fouused on a good list tho is that I am too new to the Mac and dont want to stumble around. When you say to go to display settings and look at the table, this is on the Mac? That might be just what I want. Thanks. Quote of the nanosecond . . . There are three kinds of people in the world, those who can count, and those who can't.
