Small correction; the Express can be used as a router as well (but not normally
done so). However it does not have many Ethernet ports as the extreme and I do
not think you can use it as a print server.

The main difference between the three, as I remember, is:

1. Airport Express is simply an extender,
2. The Extreme is a router and wifi and,
3. The Time Capsule is a router, wifi and disk drive.

I suspect you can use the drive as a regular drive, but I'm only using mine for
time machine backups, so can't really say for sure.

When you get the Airport Express home, Launch Airport Utility and you'll see it
in the list of additional devices. I have a Time Capsule, so it detects my

Jumping in here very late but I have had very mixed reliability with internet
sharing in OSX. You may want to try:
Turn off sharing in system prefs
Leave the wy-fy adaptor configured for DHCP and DNS automatically assigned from
your router (I assume the Mac has internet access OK)
Set the (wired) Ethernet adaptor to a static IP within the range of your
router’s IP addressed (198.x.x.x) and set the DNS to something like 8.8.8.8 or
8.8.4.4
Turn on sharing again and make sure wy-fy is shared to Ethernet.

Jeff, that would work, but the issue is, then, the receiver only would have LAN
access. I need a way to get not just LAN access to the receiver, but it also
needs to have specifically internet access, and with the way my office is
designed architecturally speaking, there is no way I could gain internet access
via ethernet without running cables along the ceiling, which isn't allowed.
And please do not tell me then get another office. I'm sorry, but the poster
who said that was totally out of line.

Here's the thing. Your suggestion is great, but correct me if I am wrong. If
I plug the ethernet cable from the Airport Express you suggested to the
receiver, that would then connect the receiver via a LAN, and give it a private
local area network IP. But then, I'd need a way to connect the WAN port of the
Extreme to the internet, which would mean connecting an ethernet cord from the
modem to the extreme, right? Well, if so, that isn't gonna happen. The modem
is on the same desk as my router which has to be sitting across the room from
the receiver. There's just no other way to do this, but to network bridge.

Using google docs with voiceover

2015-04-30 Thread Venkatesh Potluri
Hi list,
I have a few doubts about using google docs with VoiceOver.
I managed to read through google's documentation on using google docs
with screen readers and as suggested there, I use it in safari by
enabling and disabling QuickNav to do certain tasks. I am able to
create documents, name them, and copy-paste text into them from
textEdit. The reason behind using TextEdit to write the document is I
am unable to navigate in the document to make changes after typing it
in google docs. How do I do this? That is, How do I navigate to a
particular line or a word after typing it and edit it? How do I add
specific comments by selecting text in the document? As of now, I am
using the Docs app on iOS to select text and add comments. How ever, I
would be more comfortable to do this on my computer keyboard (if there
is a possibility).
I am unable to access the options in the menus. I just hear the sound
VO makes when a PopUp box is activated and the first few options in
the menu when I press down aero(QuickNav turned on) or VO+Down Aero
(QuickNav off) after activating the menu. How do I do this?
Specifically, I would want to export the document and share it with
others in most cases.
Any help or suggestions would be of great value.
Thank you.

Re: iCloud and Pages?

2015-04-30 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Some of this depends on your settings within the iDevice itself. Normally, as
long as each device, both iDevice and Mac connect to iCloud, the sync will
happen. so, if your Mac is connected to WiFi when you’re working on the
document, all changes get recorded on the Mac and up in iCloud as well. Your
iDevice will also receive those same changes whenever it connects to WiFi as
well, albeit somewhat less quick in many cases. On your iDevice, in Settings,
Cellular, swipe through the items to locate the “Use Cellular Data for”
heading. All apps in the list following that heading have either an “on” or
“off” flag associated with them. So, if the app is set to “On”, then it will
sync data over your cellular data carrier whereas if it is set to off, it will
only sync when you are connected to WiFi. As I mentioned, the sync process
sometimes takes an extra minute or so on your iDevice depending on its
processor and network speed. I’ve seen it where you need to close the document
and, on occasion, close the app totally through the app chooser, then re-open,
in order for the sync to take effect. This is rare, but not improbable.

HTH.

Re: alarm not sounding at end of work-out on apple Watch

2015-04-30 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi George,

First, thanks for your efforts on this. It was really nice of you to check
into it.

the guy I spoke with yesterday--purely by happenstance--is a senior tech
support advisor. I've got his direct email and phone, so am going to try
following up with him first. But thanks for posting the AppleCare number,
that'll be my next step.

I've tried just about everything. Inside, outside, with phone, without phone,
and no joy. I didn't even know there was supposed to be feedback at the
halfway point. I don't think it's a hardware issue, because other than this,
all sounds and haptic feedback work as expected. Which pretty much makes it a
software issue. Do you know if the apple Care people you talked with were
using VO when they did the test? I'm wondering if that's causing the problem.

Anyway, Rick hit it on the head. It's not that I want to be hasty, especially
with a new product. But if i have to decide within fourteen days, I'll err on
the side of returning. I can always purchase another one later, but once my
two weeks is gone, so is my option to return the device.
Cheers,
Donna

Hello. I'm having difficulty using youview. For one thing, there are
some videos there that I didn't even search for. When I try to play
the videos nothing happens. When I type in a search and press enter, I
don't get my search results back. What am I doing wrong? Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there any podcasts I could
listen to? Thanks in advance, Ernest.

Re: iCloud and Pages?

2015-04-30 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there
Before I couldn’t use my iCloud drive these days, I would open it on my Mac and
give it a few minutes to discover that it had a new one. I would open up the
iCloud drive with command shift i and then some. Then you want to get on top of
your file name and press command i and interact with the scroll bar; press vo
right arrow to check for the date and/or time of the latest modification.

If you are going the other way, open Pages on the IOS device and wait some. If
you have to on the iPhone, check to see if the latest thing you made a change
to is there.

That’s the best I can come up with right now.

RE: alarm not sounding at end of work-out on apple Watch

2015-04-30 Thread george b
Rick and donna,

I just got off the phone with apple care with the following.

They did a test with a workout and with voice over running they set a time
duration of 5 minutes and got the following one half way through the time they
got a poke and a one tone audible and at the end of the workout they got
several tones and a couple of pokes.

If you are having issues they said to call

Applecare number 800-275-2273

At this time apple care is doing help issues with the apple watch and if you
call the accessability phone number they are just going to transfer your call
to the apple care number I posted above.

iCloud and Pages?

2015-04-30 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,
I am having problems with Pages and iCloud in iOS 8.3 and Yosemite. From what
I understand, if I make changes to a document on either my Mac Mini or my
iPhone, those changes should be reflected in both documents over the network.
The changes don't seem to be reliably taking place on each other's devices.
What might I be doing wrong? And how can I check to make sure that my documents
are being updated correctly?

Re: Linking Dropbox with my Mac

2015-04-30 Thread KristeenHughes
Yes, That’s How I thought it should be too, but it didn’t work like that. The
dropbox app just sits there and is either busy or does nothing.

Re: Linking Dropbox with my Mac

2015-04-30 Thread Matthew Dierckens
Hello Cristeen
When they installed the app it should have asked them to sign in or create a
new account. Once they sign in, it will create a dropbox folder in their home
directory.

God bless.

Linking Dropbox with my Mac

2015-04-30 Thread KristeenHughes
I have a friend who has a Mac running the latest OS. She is tying to get her
Dropbox bo be a viewable folder in her home folder. Since the dropbox app isn’t
friendly, how can we do this?

Thanks in advance.

Re: alarm not sounding at end of work-out on apple Watch

2015-04-30 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi,

I definitely get that. Unfortunately, if I'm going to return the watch, I have
to do it within fourteen days, so don't really have the luxury of waiting to
see if it gets fixed. :) I'd rather return it now and then try again later,
then end up with a watch where this feature doesn't work.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Mark down editors

2015-04-30 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Phil.

There are a few programs that you might like. I use ia writer pro and marked 2.
Has anyone found a program which can make epub on the basis of markdown.

Best regards Annie.
