thanks,

Re: Few questions regarding my Mac laptop

2018-05-05 Thread Ben Constantini
Hi Terri, I used to use Zoomtext on my old PC , but I found that the Zoom on
the mac works much better . It has been awhile since I set it up but once you
turn Zoom on in the settings ,you can go into the Trackpad preferences and turn
on the trackpad gestures setting . Once you do this all you need to to do is
press control and flick up with two fingers to increase magnification and flick
down with two fingers to decrease magnification .If you have any problems email
me and I will look up the exact settings .

Re: Few questions regarding my Mac laptop

2018-05-05 Thread Phil Halton
Terry, I suggest that you read through the help manuals that come with every
Mac. Pour through these manuals and you will learn a great deal about how to
operate the computer. You can access the online health system with command plus
the HKEY or possibly command plus HKEY twice in a row. It’s been a while since
I’ve used it. When I first got my Mac I read voraciously all that was about in
these health files at it quickly got me up to speed using the Mac.

Re: Using 64 flash drive to make super duper back-up

2018-05-05 Thread E.T.
I actually now make redundant backups after a couple of mishaps.
Unless your drive is partitioned I would npt put both Time Machine and
SuperDuoer on it. I used to have separate smaller drives but it got too
messy so got the 4tb.

Purchase a Thunderbolt or USB 3 128GB or higher, spinning drive for your
Superduper backups.

Good luck,

Re: Few questions regarding my Mac laptop

2018-05-05 Thread Alex Hall
I can't help with your second question, but I can try to help with the first,
about your drives.

Any drive is set up using what's called a file system. There are several
popular ones out there, some cross-platform and some specific to macOS or
Windows. FAT32 or FAT are the usual general-purpose ones used for thumb drives
or SD cards. For larger capacities and external hard or solid state drives,
NTFS is used with Windows and either APFS or OS X Extended is used for the Mac.

Here's the point of all that. The Mac can see and read NTFS drives meant for
Windows, and Windows can read OS X Extended drives meant for the Mac. I don't
know if Windows can read APFS drives. Importantly, neither system can write to,
or change in any way, a drive meant for the other platform. You can't, for
instance, put a file onto an NTFS drive using a Mac, but you can copy off of
that drive and onto another drive your Mac can fully use. Same for Windows with
Mac drives.

That's a very, very long way of saying: your Mac should read your Windows
drives just fine, and let you copy off them. You just can't write anything to
them from the Mac.

Hi Terry, yes you can connect your external hard drive to the mack, for your
other questions, I suggest you to visit an Apple store and attend the
accessibility or Mac basic session on Mack,
once you get the foundation of how to use the Mac then you can visit
applevis.com and follow the guides and podcast from there
Hope this helps

Subject: Few questions regarding my Mac laptop

Hello everyone,

I have had my Mac laptop for a while now. It is something I really want
to learn how to use. But I seem to be struggling with it.

First of all, can I connect my 2 external hard drives to the mac?

They are currently connected to my windows laptop, and so I wasn't sure
if they could be connected to the Mac.

Also, a while back, I asked about Zoom Text for the Mac, and possibly
using the Mac's magnification. My boyfriend is visually impaired, and
has some useable vision.

We tried the command that was recommended. But this just seemed to turn
on and off the bacllight for the keyboard. So I don't know if we did
something wrong. Or if this Mac I have is different, or works differently.

It's running Yosemitte.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Few questions regarding my Mac laptop

2018-05-05 Thread Terri Stimmel

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Using 64 flash drive to make super duper back-up

2018-05-05 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Ramy,

I strongly recommend against using a 64 GB USB flash drive to make a Superduper
backup. The drive is simply too slow in order to be used to boot your Mac. It
can be done, however, the boot up process would take over 20 minutes or so.
Also, even after the OS was up and running, it would take up to 10 minutes for
anything to happen, such as opening an application such as Mail.

Purchase a Thunderbolt or USB 3 128GB or higher, spinning drive for your
Superduper backups.

Good luck,

Mark

2018-05-05 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
I haven't used a HandyTech display, but my understanding is that they can
transfer files to a host computer by emulating a keyboard and writing the file
into whatever text editor or word processor you're using.

This should work well on the Mac. I don't know how transfers in the other
direction (from host computer to braille display) are handled, though, if you
don't have their Microsoft Windows-only file transfer tool.

Using Hearing aids with Iphone, anyone has experience?

2018-05-05 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I also live in the UK and have NHS hearing aids 1 for each ear. I use
Music-Link+ stereo silhouette earhooks available from www.connevans.co.uk for
about £20. These hook over my behind the ear hearing aid to drive the inductive
loop system in the hearing aid. They plug into the 3.5 mm audio jack socket on
my iPhone 5S. I also use them with my iPod nano. I find the audio quality
satisfactory and there are no delays as reported by others for bluetooth
hearing aids.
My hearing aids are set up to be independently adjustable for program and
volume. Thus I can put both earhooks over one hearing aid to listen the iPhone
while leaving the other hearing aid to listen to what is happening around me.
At other times I can put each earhook over each hearing aid to fully enjoy
music and drama in stereo. As they plug into the audio jack socket of my iPod
Nano they connecting cable acts as an aerial for the FM radio in the iPod nano
which I use a lot. Alas Apple has discontinued the iPod Nano so when mine no
longer works I will miss FM radio. My iPhone is pay as you go so live radio
will be expensive away from my wifi. It would be great if the iPhone included
FM radio!
Hope this helps….

Interesting. Generally the prediction of email addresses comes from either
"Previous Recipients" window in Mail or from your contacts application. I have
not experienced this issue.

Re: Using the slider on the Macbook Air

2018-05-05 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hard question to answer and sometimes it can be impossible to do. Generally for
slider widgets all the functionality of manipulating them is managed by the web
page developer in JAVAScript.

Are you having issues with a site we can look at?

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: messages ending up in junk folder

2018-05-05 Thread Jonathan Cohn
With Gmail as your primary mail service, I would just turn off the JUNK
filtering in the Mail program. Gmail has the advantage of seeing billions of
e-mail messages and can usually do a better job at spam filtering then your Mac
can do.

If the messages are still going to junk after that, then you know that Gmail is
the culprit and the way to resolve this is to use the Gmail web interface and
check all the items in the SPAM folder that are not junk and then click the not
spam button. I find the item chooser very useful when working with a cluttered
page like GMail's especially if you are on a Macintosh running newer than El
Capitan.

Let me know if you need more detailed instructions.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Was totally unaware of CMD+ShiftA. Thanks.

I would use High Sera but my mid 2009 Mac will not support it at all.

Try cmd-shift-a to force it. El Cap isn't High Sierra, but Apple often brings
Safari features to older macOS versions. I'm wondering if they took the new
restriction on auto-fill and put it in Safari so all supported macOS releases
would get it.

auto fill with passwords apparently not working

Okay,

I’m using Elcapitan. For some weird reason, when ever I go to a web site that
requires a user name and password, it is not filled in as it normally should be
and used to be. I double checked and auto fill is active on the passwords tab.
Does this no longer work or is there some adjustment I need to make in the
privacy section? It used to work just fine.

Thanks.
