Hi can you write to me offlist if necessary and tell me more about key
remapping? I have an application that uses the f 11 and f 12 keys in windows
and I can't seem to get it to work.

thanks

 Hi Cameron,

I have run windows both in bootcamp and in VM Fusion. Both have
advantages so I don't think you can say for sure bootcamp is better.
Currently I'm running my Macbook pro with VM Fusion and Windows 7. I have
many applications running on both systems and am changing between operating
systems quickly and easily. I don't have the need to keep restarting my
computer to run programs in the different operating systems. It is still
kind of like magic. You will need a pretty powerful Mac to do this but it
works well. And, I do like being able to install windows without sighted
help. I've done it about three times now in the past few years.

Also, I think KeyRemap4Macbook will easily take care of the key remapping
needs if you use fusion, or the built in key remapping in VM Fusion works
pretty well. Sharpkeys would be needed in bootcamp. I found Sharp keys a
challenge to use but it does work. Bootcamp is certainly better if your Mac
 has limited resources.

If you want the caps lock key on the Windows side in a screen reader like
Jaws to work closely like that on a PC then you need to go the VM Fusion
 route with KeRemapper4Macbook.

I spend most of my computer time at home on the Mac side but it is great to
just tab over and have Windows apps just work.

 Best.

Hi. If it is an OEM copy of windows, it probably won't work. If it's a
microsoft developer version or a retail version, you should have no
issues assuming you have your product key handy.

Installing windows via bootcamp and having a dual boot system is a
better idea than running windows virtually from within OSX. You'll
need sighted assistance on the first couple of screens of the windows
seven installer as they chose not to make it entirely accessible with
narrator. After you agree to the ula and select the new empty
partition you created in bootcamp, then you should be able to launch
narrator and finish the install/setup on your own. (Windows key U and
then alt N to launch narrator. Keep in mind that your windows key and
alt key will be swapped on the mac unless you use a utility like sharp
keys to remap them.) You will need a USB headset or other plug and
play USB sound device to do this.

 I hope that helps.

 Cameron.

How much should be for each OS?
I have 4 gigs of memory for both machines.
The one that will be the primary should have the most right? Or am I not

True, but if one is having problems with VMWare, Bootcamp can be an accessible

RE: running windows along side the mac

Hello everyone. There's no question about it, Windows runs faster in
Bootcamp for me. I also don't have problems with loss of Software
activations in JAWS. Also, the Focus USB Braille displays work properly. I
couldn't get them running in VM Fusion.

I'm going to start the bootcamp today or tomorrow after work. I'm just
gathering all of the notes people are sending and go from there. I hear
people saying its slow to switch from one to the other but I skyped with

myself.

Re: running windows along side the mac

2012-09-24 Thread Chris Bruinenberg
I believe that you will need a license for both systems.
I can try to create a podcast of steps.
but here is what i remember.
1. have your windows disk ready.
2. Go to utilities and bootcamp.
3. start bootcamp and it will walk you through a wizard.
It will ask you if you want to create a windows partition, and download drivers.
note: you will have speech with voiceover with this.
After you download the drivers and make a dvd or cd of them, you will need to
have sited assistance.
It will ask you how large you want the bootcamp partition to be.
I think you have voiceover support here.
It is a slider to adjust how large the mac partition is vs. the windows
partition.
You will not be able to undue this option without re-installing again.
Then the computer will reboot and you will have to click next and i accept.
It will ask you if you want to do a custom install or upgrade. i always have
chose custom.
Then it will ask you where you want it installed. Hit bootcamp and advanced.
This is very important.
Now hit format. and next.
Now the computer will go to work, and will restart a few times.
You will need a usb audio device of some sort. or you can have sited assistance
with the setup screen.
Next make sure to have that cd or dvd of the drivers. you will be able to use
the function keys just like in Mac os.
Hope that helps anybody.
Feel free to email me with further questions.

Thanks.

 Hi,
I finally have or found time to get started on this project of sort. Can
someone tell me the different ways to do this. I understand one way will

 Thanks.

I have to install it using the mac. Holy heck, hope that made sense. We can

Re: running windows along side the mac

2012-09-23 Thread Cameron Strife

Cameron.

Re: running windows along side the mac

2012-09-23 Thread Eric Caron
Hi Cameron,

I have run windows both in bootcamp and in VM Fusion. Both have
advantages so I don't think you can say for sure bootcamp is better. Currently
I'm running my Macbook pro with VM Fusion and Windows 7. I have many
applications running on both systems and am changing between operating systems
quickly and easily. I don't have the need to keep restarting my computer to
run programs in the different operating systems. It is still kind of like
magic. You will need a pretty powerful Mac to do this but it works well. And,
I do like being able to install windows without sighted help. I've done it
about three times now in the past few years.

Also, I think KeyRemap4Macbook will easily take care of the key remapping needs
if you use fusion, or the built in key remapping in VM Fusion works pretty
well. Sharpkeys would be needed in bootcamp. I found Sharp keys a challenge
to use but it does work. Bootcamp is certainly better if your Mac has limited
resources.

If you want the caps lock key on the Windows side in a screen reader like Jaws
to work closely like that on a PC then you need to go the VM Fusion route with
KeRemapper4Macbook.

I spend most of my computer time at home on the Mac side but it is great to
just tab over and have Windows apps just work.

Best.

Re: running windows along side the mac

2012-09-23 Thread Cameron Strife
Yes running it virtually will work and you do have the advantage of
being able to switch from mac OSX to windows without a restart.
However, my main issues with running windows virtually is that running
both operating systems side by side taxes your ram and processor a lot
more and could also effect data read/write if you have a 5400rpm
drive. Also, there have been some issues with certain drivers and
software authorization when running windows virtually, although this
seems to happen less with windows seven...

Of course, these things are probably of little concern for people
doing non intensive general computing on a daily basis. I use both my
macs for audio production work so need to be a tad paranoid about
CPUand ram usage etc.

Just my two cents...

Cameron.

Hi,

in your finder, press command shift U. This will land you on your utility
folder. In this folder is the bootcamp assistant. Run this. By the way, I
think this was mentioned earlier in the thread but, you will need to get a
retail or builder copy of windows.
