Hi :)

Several people (well, at least 2) have said that anything darker than this is
tooo dark = that's the reason Paulo made them this light. These ones are just
about perfect on my less-than-perfect monitor. I have a feeling that Paulo or
someone is probably already working on something that is almost inverse.

Hi Paulo,

I just wanted to say WOW (and thank you!). We need this kind of
material - the 3D perspectives make the icons striking (and they also
bring out your wonderful details). I do, however, think that the most
recent images (particularly Wallpaper 1) are too bright. They might
make great presentation title slide backgrounds, but it would also be
good to have something stronger so that it stands out as a wallpaper
design (jumps out of the screen).

Regards,
Ivan.

Hi all,

These are the bigger versions:

Wallpaper 1:
16:10 AR | 1920x1080px:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Wallpaper-LibreOffice-1-1920px.png
4:3 AR | 1600x1200px:

Wallpaper 2:

4:3 AR | 1600x1200px:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Wallpaper-LibreOffice-2-1600px.png

They toke some hours to render... and still can't achieve the exactly
same look of them previous versions. :/ Maybe because I edited
(post-production) everything in Blender this time (GIMP is horrible to
edit bigger sizes - in my computer).

Could somebody help me to do and upload JPEG versions, if they are needed?

And what you think about to allow upload BLEND files to the wiki?

Good Saturday!

Hi Paulo:

I have added them to the wiki wallpaper page. Thank you! They do look

I am not sure if we really need any .jpg versions. Unless people really

Hi Christoph!

Yeah, this request was done in my blog too. The suggested resolution is
1600px large. Would be it enough? For make sure, I'm thinking to render
at 2500px. (I know some developers have even bigger screens... *my dream*)

And, as I said few minutes ago, today I'm having some left time, so your
ask will be answered sooner than you was thinking. :) I just did not it
before because it's not just re-render the pictures, but I need too
increase the quality of textures (export again in Inkscape) and the mesh
resolution (with a subdivision process called SubSurface) and it
increase a bit the render time too. But today I'm sure it'll be possible. ;)

I know you are not in a hurry. It's just to explain a little bit the
process. :P

See you,

Hi :)

Long file-names are fashionable nowadays even tho that sometimes causes
problems, particularly in Windows. People also want to use characters such as
.
% ? * even tho those are more likely to cause problems. Many of us try to
keep file-names as short as possible (having grown-up naming things in 8
characters or less) but it is not really necessary nowadays.

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Re: Great artwork

2011-02-16 Thread Paulo José
Yeah, you're not wrong. The camera's perspective (50mm) makes the icons
look a bit different. But this impression is mainly because they are
placed in a circular arrangement, Base and Writer are rotated by 30
degrees and Calc and Draw by 10 degrees in camera direction. Just
Impress is set exactly front to camera. This Blender's screenshot may help:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q7SezI5yxqM/TVyJQTfq8gI/AbA/bD7eHZ4SRN0/s1600/blender-icons-3d.png

By the way, the icons by themselves are a little bit fat in the
middle, how you can see in this initial test render:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tKhTPVdyN2Y/TVyLcDi44QI/AbE/rEVsFELDEec/s320/icons-01-0001.png

Your monitor seems to be fine. :D And your eyes too! :)

Something i was wondering was why some of the logos appear to be leaning
slightly or angled or is it a slight perspective? The Calc and Impress ones
seem to have a greater gap at the bottom than at the top in this one ...

Yeah, I [a bit purposely] forgot Math. I think I didn't use it because his

But I'll give a try to Math and see how it looks.

BTW ... Drew supplied us with a great pamphlet logo for SCALE. You can find the

Great job! :) I'm following his work in the design mail listing and liking very

I created my account, but in the instructions to upload it says I need
export my model, correct? The 5 icons have the same meshes. It's very
basic, closed and manifold, but they intercept themselves. How should I
prepare the models (including texture and UV map) for export? I already
read the thinks-to-keep-in-mind text, but it's still a bit unclear. If

Yeah, it was deliberated. But I can easily change that in the Gimp
files. I just thought to emphasize the LibreOffice words making the
others white. But initially I was worried about the background be too
bright to do it. Thank you for your commentary! :)

Well, these wallpapers are just tests rendered in a bigger resolution
[asked by Leif] and their textures have poor quality. Actually, the
resolution of textures (512px) is not enough to the 1024x768 format, so
you can see the aliasing effect in the center picture (look to green

Hi again!

Yesterday I finished the 3D version of the main icon set of LibO and today I
made two first real wallpaper. Maybe they are too much bright, so let me know
what you think.

They are in 16:9 aspect ratio.

Hope you like it. :)

Paulo, if you could post these on the LibreOffice site as wallpaper files,

Well, these wallpapers are just tests rendered in a bigger resolution
 [asked
by Leif] and their textures have poor quality. Actually, the resolution of
textures (512px) is not enough to the 1024x768 format, so you can see the
aliasing effect in the center picture (look to green highlights in the hills).
Also maybe some text may be good too to keep the context of these images. I'll
try to do something better today and present to you. :)

Thanks a lot for the great artwork!
I'm happy with the commentaries from you all. :) Thank you!

And thank you for all the people involved in the Mimetype icons creation,
because my only work was to put this great artwork in 3D format. :)

 Best Regards,
 ~Paulo

Excellent - had to tweet the links out just as soon as I saw them.

Thanks very much,

Hi Paulo:

Once again, they are great! You may be missing one of the applications:
Math. We usually quote the following 6 applications in our
documentation: Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Math, Base. We are also
quote the Macros Scripting in our next conference in SCALE (US).

BTW ... Drew supplied us with a great pamphlet logo for SCALE. You can
find the .odg file here:

Hi all,

Good to see your interest on my 3D stuff! Thanks for the nice comments!
About to make generic wallpapers to press kit, it would be an actual
pleasure. Although, today I resume my university research and my
vacations will end in a week, so I'll have really few time and I'll need
time enough to complete the wallpapers. When do you think a deadline
could be dated?

Can you two - and who would like to join - help me with some ideas?

Cheers,
~Paulo

We have a team attending the SCALE conference on February 25-27th. If we
had them, they could have the wallpapers cycle on a computer at the
conference booth.

Cheers

Marc

Hi Marc, Paulo,

Well, I don't know if Paolo has any time left.

There is one image for the screens already:

But more are welcome - Paulo, feel like letting your creative juices
loose on a paper airplane and Penguin idea...*smile*
