Remember the old "joke" about what is your plane ran on winders? Now it
already is true, not only for planes, but also for cars.

Those midair reboots can really be rough.

One of the tricks with Dells was to pull the plug, take a screwdriver
and short between each prong to the ground prong. Another is to pull
the battery, wait 6 min, reboot.

I was on an airplane a coupla weeks ago that had to be rebooted a
coupla times, and it still didn't work. Seriously, start it, shut it
down, wait 10 minutes, fire it up again, lather rinse repeat. Then
move all the pax to the next plane over. Same procedure with a
battery disconnect might work?

Re: [MBZ] 1994 S420 Sale Preparation

2016-10-16 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
This is like the puzzle with the fox, the chicken, and the bag of corn that you
need to carry across the river in a canoe that can only carry one item plus you
at a time. The fox wants to eat the chicken who wants to eat the corn...

Clay drives the car to his son in the Dakotas, who drives him back west. Mao
rides the dog to get the car in the Dakotas, drives it to Curly, rides the dog
back. Curly adds the car to his caravan east for vacation, delivers the car to
Floyd, who drives it down to Tampa, rides the dog back to Charleston.

Yup. M102 is 2/3 of an M103, but with about the same HP. They keep the
102 revved higher. I had wunna them. It was GREAT, I traded it and a
123 300TD to buy the 124 TD. no regrets, but I miss the 230TE some
times. SWMBO misses it more.

If ya buy it, I'll send ya a free oelfilter! With a 5 spd, it would

Re: [MBZ] OT Sears / Kenmore dryer repair

2016-10-16 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
On this dryer, no lint passes through the door. Primary suction point for
lint is at the bottom edge of the front panel. There is a lint screen that
pulls up for cleaning, and the frame that holds that screen in place can be
easily removed to clean out most of the suction side ducting before it goes
into the squirrel cage fan mounted on the front of the motor. I haven't
done that in a while, it looked pretty good when I had the panel off and so
I vacuumed out the end right before the fan. I confess that I could have
taken the screen frame out and gotten a bit more; if my house burns down
later this fall we'll know who to blame

Yes, lint-clean-up was a major theme during the repair. A few years ago the
vent duct became detached from the back of the dryer for a month or two before
I caught it. The dryer was re-breathing lint, which probably contributed to
the rear drum bearing failure. There was an amazing amount of lint inside (and
behind) the dryer, which all was vacuumed up. The inside of the vent duct was
pretty clean but also was vacuumed up.

Today I did the deed, dryer is fixed! Left the dryer in top of the washer for
the repair. Rick's description was the best, big ball mounted on the rear of
the drum, rides in a plastic cup mounted on the rear wall of the dryer. I
bought the kit from appliance parts pro's, $24 delivered. I also replaced the
water lines to the washer while I had the stack pulled away from the wall.

Top of the dryer has spring clips at the front edge, hinge at the rear, YouTube
videos show the way.

Looks like this particular Kenmore was made by Frigidaire. Really a pretty
easy job, but took about half a day because I spent a lot of time cleaning up
17 years of accumulated lint and dust.

I did not (yet) replace the nylon strips that the front of the drum rides on,
that'll be next.

NOAA did some high-res satellite imagery of the 4 days after the storm
that are pretty amazing. I still need to look and see if they got me
out on the beach Sunday morning
http://storms.ngs.noaa.gov/storms/matthew/index.html

Kiawah did some surveys right after the storm and found in general
100-120ft of beach and dunes disappeared. It was quite a bit worse a
bit further south at Edisto Island and beach.

Interesting!
If the tributaries were dammed and canals built; something on the order of the
California water system; it would seem that Great Plains agriculture would
seldom if ever be short of water again.
