[mssms] moving to CM2012..

Hi all,

Has anyone put together any presentations to the benefits of moving to
CM2012, were starting to put our case forward, just wanted to avoid
re-inventing the wheel.

Apart from, its the best thing since sliced bread and you wont regret it :)

Thanks,
Ricky.

[mssms] IE10 and the Troubles of Deploying via SCCM

2014-01-24 Thread Lawrence, Tony
Hello,

I have seen a few e-mails and posts on the net so I wanted to check with the
experts :)

Over the past few weeks I have been trying to deploy Internet Explorer 10 to
Windows 7 (running IE8). Simple Well not so.. I am attempting to deploy
via SCCM 2007 R2, by 2 ways.. by a standard EXE and also via WSUS.

I have created an EXE via the IEAK and for some this works and for other
workstations this fails. Reviewing deeper there a few pre-reqs required.

I am still experiencing issues with this and wanted to know if anyone can
advise on their experiences to get IE10 deployed (ideally I would prefer to use
SCCM and WSUS than the IEAK).

Any tips or tricks of the trade would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Tony

[mssms] Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.PkgStatus_G'.

2014-01-24 Thread s kissel
Hi all,
Receiving this error on one of the secondary sites in the hierarchy. Not much
appearing in the way of Google hits for this, other than possibly updating the
DB, unsupported of course. The key does already exist in the DB, but I'm not
sure why it's only happening for this particular package on this particular
secondary. All other secondaries and all other packages are fine. SCCM 2012 R2,
and the Secondary has SQL Server 2012 SP1 installed, like all the other
Secondary Site servers.
I've tried all the simple ones like refreshing package, removing package from
site, wait a day, reapply, as well as rebooting, and even using
extractcontent.exe, but so far nothing has worked.
Any ideas?
Cheers.

Setting up IBCM in 2012 is a breeze compared to the 2007 days. I’ve configured
IBCM in both versions and as long as you have basic PKI understanding, you
shouldn’t have too many roadblocks. In the environment you are going to use to
set it up, do you already have PKI setup with machine certificates deployed,
specifically workstations to be managed over the internet? You’ll also need to
either stand up a new site system server in your DMZ, or have the ports reverse
proxy to your primary site server. If you’re going to do Software Distribution,
Software Updates, and App Catalog, then you’ll need to make sure those roles
are setup as HTTPS and the appropriate web server cert in IIS and make sure the
roles allow intranet and internet. After that it’s just a matter of making sure
the clients have the public fqdn configured for IBCM and that the firewall
ports are open. Now, if DA is the option like so many suggested, definitely go
that route… J Thanks, Eric Morrison From: listsad...@lists.myitforum.com

Setting up IBCM in 2012 is a breeze compared to the 2007 days.

I've configured IBCM in both versions and as long as you have basic PKI
understanding, you shouldn't have too many roadblocks.

In the environment you are going to use to set it up, do you already have PKI
setup with machine certificates deployed, specifically workstations to be
managed over the internet? You'll also need to either stand up a new site
system server in your DMZ, or have the ports reverse proxy to your primary site
server. If you're going to do Software Distribution, Software Updates, and App
Catalog, then you'll need to make sure those roles are setup as HTTPS and the
appropriate web server cert in IIS and make sure the roles allow intranet and
internet. After that it's just a matter of making sure the clients have the

That's correct. Also, Windows systems managed by Intune are not manageable from
ConfigMgr using the Intune connector - the Intune connector is explicitly only
for mobile devices (not that Win 8.1 can actually act like a mobile device but
you lose any ability to perform software updates or manage SCEP when you manage
it this way).

[mssms] Create custom report in SCCM 2012

2012 server?

RE: [mssms] Create custom report in SCCM 2012

2014-01-24 Thread Rich Coulter
It's good practice to create reports based on SQL views only. The challenge is
to get a good overview of all the views and how they are related.

CM07 has a pretty useful tool that can assist you. Albeit, the views in CM12
are not 100% identical, it's still a pretty good way to get started.

Download the and install the CreatingCustomReportsByUsingSQLViews.msi file

Once you have this installed open C:\Program Files (x86)\Configuration Manager
2007 Documentation\Creating Custom Reports by Using Configuration Manager 2007
SQL View - note you have a Visio document and Excel spreadsheet.

If you open the Visio document and select the Discovery tab, notice all the
views. Next, look at Hardware Inventory.

Another thing you can do is open SQL Management Studio connect to the CM_XXX
database and create a new query like this:

select distinct table_name,COLUMN_Name from
Information_Schema.columns
where table_name LIKE ('v_') Order by table_name

Take a look at all the views returned.

This will give you an idea of the possibilities. If you want to create custom
reports do some digging on using...SQL Server Data Tools - Business
Intelligence Settings and start Visual Studio.

I'm sure there's some resources available some place to get you going on
creating custom reports from there.

[mssms] RE: MBAM with ConfigMgr

2014-01-24 Thread Marcum, John
Yes, you point the URL to the MBAM server instead of the CM server. I'm not
sure if I ever blogged it.

Basically just install it like this:
http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2013/06/10/how-to-install-mbam-2-0-with-configmgr-integration/

Then run the install on the MBAM server as well and point the GPO's to the MBAM
server for reporting.

(as best as I can remember, it's been awhile)

I've version 1 and version 2. Blogged some about deploying version 2. Main
thing about version 2 with ConfigMgr integration is that it doesn't keep
compliance data any longer than computer inventory. For the healthcare firm I
was with that was not acceptable so I did a hybrid install. Putting the
compliance data in MBAM keeps it forever.

[mssms] R2 client upgrade question

2014-01-24 Thread Elias Leal
I am curious what everyone is doing with R2 client upgrades.

Outside of OSD and before addressing the R2 hotfix KB2905002, I am trying
to figure the best way to upgrade clients from the SP1 CU3 version
(5.00.7804.1400) to the initial R2 version (5.00.7958.1000).

Some observations...

1. From previous email threads, I've notice recommendations to use
Automatic Client Upgrade. However, when I enable this feature...there is
wording in the UI that saysClients in slow or unreliable boundaries will
not be upgraded automatically.

2. When I installed R2 on my lab primary site, there wasn't an option to
include a client installer package like how we saw with SP1 or CU3 site
installs (unless I missed that).

So, I am trying to confirm if my observations are correct. And if so, what
is everyone doing with client upgrades in slow boundaries? Do we create a
package for them?

Thanks,

Elias

RE: [mssms] R2 client upgrade question

2014-01-24 Thread Trevor Sullivan
Elias,

Yes, I just recently used a ConfigMgr client package to upgrade a customer
from Service Pack 1 to R2. The upgrade process went flawlessly.

I used a wrapper batch file that would:

1. Kill ccmsetup.exe (if running) using taskkill.exe

2. Launch ccmsetup.exe with the /NoService parameter

3. Install Microsoft KB2905002 using msiexec.exe /update

There was some issue I ran into while trying to install KB2905002 using the
PATCH property, but I cannot recall what it was. That's why I just used
msiexec.exe

Cheers,

Re: [mssms] R2 client upgrade question

2014-01-24 Thread Elias Leal
Thanks, Trevor. That make sense. It just seems with R2, performing the
client upgrade is not as intuitive as it has been with SP1 or CU3 where the
site installer asked you if you wanted to create a package for your client
and console upgrades. And, I can't see using the Automatic Client Upgrade
feature as being a comprehensive solution. If I recall, I thought I read in
past Technet documentation that the Automatic Client Upgrade was not
recommended to fully upgrade your entire client environment, but rather
only after you have performed some mass client package push. In other
words, for those the small percentage remaining on the older client version.

RE: [mssms] R2 client upgrade question

2014-01-24 Thread Trevor Sullivan
Ivan,

Yes, sir. It's just a precaution, if nothing else. During my development /
testing period, I would regularly come across cases where I invoked
ccmsetup.exe asynchronously, and instead meant to launch it synchronously.
In those cases, I'd have to kill the async ccmsetup.exe (which was running
as a service, and probably just sleeping, waiting for content), to allow the
synchronous invocation to run successfully.

As long as there aren't any client installations or uninstallations running,
killing ccmsetup.exe should be relatively safe. Even then, ccmsetup.exe
simply calls out to other processes (eg. msiexec.exe, prerequisite files,
etc.), so it's not like you're interrupting any installation itself, just
the installation wrapper.

Cheers,

Trevor Sullivan

Subject: RE: [mssms] R2 client upgrade question

Elias,

Yes, I just recently used a ConfigMgr client package to upgrade a customer
from Service Pack 1 to R2. The upgrade process went flawlessly.

I used a wrapper batch file that would:

1. Kill ccmsetup.exe (if running) using taskkill.exe

2. Launch ccmsetup.exe with the /NoService parameter

3. Install Microsoft KB2905002 using msiexec.exe /update

There was some issue I ran into while trying to install KB2905002 using the
PATCH property, but I cannot recall what it was. That's why I just used
msiexec.exe

Cheers,

Trevor Sullivan

Subject: [mssms] R2 client upgrade question

I am curious what everyone is doing with R2 client upgrades.

Outside of OSD and before addressing the R2 hotfix KB2905002, I am trying to
figure the best way to upgrade clients from the SP1 CU3 version

Do we create a
package for them?

Thanks,

Elias
