RE: [Nighthawk Lovers] Cb700sc troubleshooting
@kyle I believe so, I haven't tried in a few weeks. I'll dig for the wiring diagram and check it out. Hopefully it is included in the pdf of the owners manual that I found online! @richard I'm around Seattle Washington I'll see how much time I can spare this weekend to try everything out! Thanks for the advice all. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. Now I need more info. What exactly happens when it won't start? Is the starter turning the engine and it won't catch? Can you say it does this only when the engine is warm or hot? Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Cb700sc troubleshooting
When you're in Neutral, and it won't start, is your Neutral light on, and your gear selector indicator (if applicable) also showing Neutral? If yes, I think those circuits are fine. Check / trace wires from the kill switch and the start button next. Understand how bit work, ohm them out, then bypass one at a time with some wire. If you can get it to turn over by bypassing, investigate all connections and inspect the actual wire that you have bypassed. After that, I think you're into the ignition switch. -- Sent from my iPhone 6S > On Apr 4, 2017, at 8:28 PM, Mark Vinopalwrote: > > Thank you all for the quick responses! Thank you all for the quick responses! The lights and turn indicators work fine, but I have actually always needed the bike to be in neutral to start, just having the clutch in doesn't work. Well.. I have bump started in 2nd a few times but I don't think that would be applicable here. What is stumping me is that it works most of the time.. I just never want to take it far from home because I was stuck for a good 45 minutes one day while it was trying to decide if it wanted to start or not. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Cb700sc troubleshooting
I have an 83 650sc but will offer a nickels worth of advise as cents are no longer available in Canada. If the battery is good and the lights come on, I'd be checking wiring from your start button, then the kill switch, then your ignition. If the lights don't come on, on my 650 there is a main fuse near the solenoid. Check that. In 83, this was essentially a tiny bus bar. It looked fine but when I looked closer, it was indeed broken. Ohm it out if you have a meter. A defective neutral switch should be ash to diagnose as the bike should start with the clutch pulled in, unless, there's also something wrong with that detection system as well. Good luck! -- Sent from my iPhone 6S > On Apr 4, 2017, at 12:20 PM, Mark Vinopalwrote: > > Hi all, I am looking for some troubleshooting advice on a beautiful (factory > red/black) '84 cb700sc that I purchased last September. > I used it all last year as a commuter bike (I know.. [Nighthawk Lovers] Cb700sc troubleshooting
Hi all, I am looking for some troubleshooting advice on a beautiful (factory red/black) '84 cb700sc that I purchased last September. I used it all last year as a commuter bike (I know.. I would probably have been better off getting something smaller and newer but I couldn't resist) and have been doing all of the maintenance myself. I recently have been having trouble with starting the bike and am trying to get it up to snuff in preparation for good riding weather here in the northwest. As far as symptoms go, There is occasionally just no reaction whatsoever when I hit The ignition. The battery is fine, the kill switch is in the right position, and the starter also works before and after these isolated occurances. The starter itself is fine, I pulled it off and looked at the solenoid and the wires and everything checks out. I am wondering if there is a wiring problem somewhere else in the harness, or if maybe the neutral indicator is damaged? If all else fails I will need to take it to a shop, but money is tight and I would love to be able to do this myself! Please let me know if you have any ideas!
