Basically, the situation then is, the language is called ua but the patterns
are called uk?

no more error. Same behaviour, though.
The ConTeXt interface keeps confusing me. Sometimes something is a free
variable name, sometimes fixed. Sometimes [] is used, sometimes {}. Sometimes
there are a variable number of [] parts.

Hmm, it ('syle') is nowhere to be found in my documents. The 'syle' typo is
found twice in ConTeXt itself, but only in manuals.

Found it (I think) \definefontfamily defines tf= but the text says \rm If I use \tf in the text it works. If I use \rm in the text it works for default Latin Modern but not for any font defined. This is true regardless of using rm= or tf= in the definition. Libertinus Sans does not have Bold Italic. With this, I come close in ConTeXt:

It is slightly 'thicker' and the lowercases have a somewhat lower height
percentage of the uppercases than Optima, but this is the closest I have come.

But I would like to move to a flared-sans font that gives me more licensing freedom. I haven't been able to find one after extensive searching. The only one who were reasonably priced (not free) were the URW Classico ones in Adobe Creative Cloud, but those can only be used in Adobe programs like InDesign (and not TeX). I found some flared-sans fonts, but not one with at least regular, italic, bold, and bold-italic. Is there really not a single flared-sans font that is really free (so also for commercial use) to use out there? I run this with one of three modes:

This works for EN, RU, but not for EL. When I run with “—mode=EL” I get EN.
Why? I am either blind or something is wrong.

[NTG-context] How do I turn off indentation inside a \framed with align=?
I have these kinds of statements
\framed[frame=off,align=flushleft,width=\textwidth]{\phrasetext{metamodelexplanation}}
but the text inside the frame is typeset with indentation.
I tried \setupindenting both before and after \starttext, (none,no,never) but
that doesn’t work.
How do I turn indenting off in all frameds with align=flushleft or otherwise
*everywhere*?

What is the easiest way to have a ‘database’ of translations for strings and
maybe links?
I now have 4 languages and 2 versions so 8 documents, but I’d like to have all
translatable strings together so I can maintain these in a single file. Ideally
I can do a file where the key of the translation is one language (say English)
and the translations are part of that.
Something I can call like this

[NTG-context] Solved: Book setup with LHS-side quotes before chapters/parts, header/footer issues, TOC, etc.
Thanks to Wolfgang Schuster and Bruce Horrocks I have now a working solution. I
ended up following Bruce’s suggestion of doing a left hand side (LHS) page
opposite the first (RHS) chapter or part page differently than using
after/before modifications of the \chapter and \part setups as I had been doing
years ago (but that book did not have parts and was done in mkii)
The modification of \chapter and \part setups with before= and after= never
worked in the \component setup in LMTX. Creating a separate command to run
immediately before a \chapter or \part, as suggested by Bruce, was simpler and
and turned out to be more robust. So, this single file example also works when
\components are used.
The only issues I have now left are very minimal. In the table of contents, the
abstract for a part has some extra whitespace above, which the chapter
abstracts don’t have. But that is not really a problem. And getting the part
title somewhere more centred on its page is also left as an issue for later.

goes into the environment file, the rest in the product file.

I attempted this:

but that does not work. This definitely moves the page numbers to the footer.

[NTG-context] How do I get the first page of the chapter to display the page number in the footer in this setup?
My double-sided layout starts each chapter on a right page with a quote on the
opposing left page. I’d like to move the page number of that right page to the
footer, but haven’t been able to find how to do this is the documentation. How
can I do this?

Yes, the new \blackboard command works, so $\blackboard{Q}$ works. Thanks.
Feature request: make sure that the new \blackboard switches math mode on/off
if necessary. Not a big deal though. The fix is simple. Adding the info about
math mode might also be helpful here:

[NTG-context] TrueType font styles suddenly not found anymore
My font setup is like this: \startmode[OPTIMANOVA] \definefontfamily [bookfont] [ss] [Optima nova LT Pro] [tf=style:Regular, bf=style:Medium, it=style:Italic, bi=style:Medium Italic] \setupbodyfont[bookfont,10pt] \stopmode \startmode[OPTIMA] \definefontfamily [bookfont] [ss] [Optima] [tf=style:Regular, bf=style:Bold, it=style:Italic, bi=style:Bold Italic] \setupbodyfont[bookfont,10pt] \stopmode Now, both worked earlier today. But I’ve lost the old Optima font somehow. If I now try —mode=OPTIMA I get: selectfont > the requested font 'Optima' has no files for the 'tf' alternative, Latin Modern is used instead. and the document is set in Latin Modern Sans Serif. Another OpenType Postscript font like Chaparral Pro works. Another TrueType like Century Gothic does not. I seem not to be able to load any TrueType font anymore. I recall there being some way to rebuild a font cache of LMTX ConTeXt but I can’t find the instructions. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks. This solves the indentation of the initial itself. What remains is the
indentation of the text immediately after, e.g. the 'uppose we’. Minimum

[NTG-context] drop cap (initial) and indentation
With the following minimal example:

move the initial, but not what comes after. I have been experimenting but
haven’t found a way to solve this.

[NTG-context] Moving the old book-structure to a recent ConTeXt
Years ago I wrote a book (Chess and the Art of Enterprise Architecture) using ConTeXt. The setup was (I think Taco’s) basic book project setup, with a chapters, environments, products, etc. subdirectory where you work in the chapters directory and can both produce individual chapters and the whole book. The main tool to produce was texexec. ConTeXt has moved on considerably since then (2014-2015). So, I tried teh old project to see if it still works, but found out it didn’t. There still is a texexec in my MacTeX, but the compilation fails: texexec --pdf --mode=SCREEN ../products/prd_book.tex resolvers | initialization | fatal error: kpse library is accessed (key: original) Is there a new ‘book’ project structure/template for the modern/standalone ConTeXt? Note, I have both a standalone ConTeXt (for another project) and the MacTeX distribution on my system. Still haven’t found really good documentation for lua, lua in ConTeXt, and especially theXML stuff (it’s all written as \xmlsomething TeX commands. No idea if this is ConTeXt, lua or whatever but it works. It is page 650 in the (normative) Annex C Implementation Limits for PDF readers
and writers:
Additionally, conforming writers should adhere to the following constraints,
and conforming readers should accommodate PDF files that obey the constraints.
The minimum page size should be 3 by 3 units in default user space; the maximum
should be 14,400 by 14,400 units. In versions of PDF earlier than 1.6, the size
of the default user space unit was fixed at 1⁄72 inch, yielding a minimum of
approximately 0.04 by 0.04 inch and a maximum of 200 by 200 inches. Beginning
with PDF 1.6, the size of the unit may be set on a page-by-page basis; the
default remains at 1/ 72 inch.
In other words: you need to change the unit per page so the page is at least
3x3 and maximally 14400x14400.

Having read that, I was loooking for the documentation of the commands that are available in the xml namespace. I want to manipulate a XML tree in LMTX lua. But looking online gives me all kinds of different XML-solutions that are proposed for lua. Which one is embedded in LMTX and available in the xml namespace? But then I get confused because other elements like xml.first, xml.collected are in the xml namespavce and mentioned. So, maybe I misunderstand things and is the documentation in << 5.5 >> selectors and injectors This section describes a bit special feature, one that we needed for a project where we could not touch the original content but could add specific sections for our own purpose. Hopefully the example demonstrates its useability. But that part I do not understand. What I need (in LMTX lua) to add (sub)nodes to the XML node (that I read with xml.first()) because the data I get is broken and I need to fix it before I can use it (and I cannot get good data) The easiest way is to add the correct data to the XML and then use it in my code. If I cannot do that I need to write parallel code that largely does the same as what I already have (ugh).. [NTG-context] METAPOST's uniformdeviate is not truly random (seed)
I’m trying to get a real random number in METAPOST MWE: \startMPpage[instance=doublefun] show uniformdeviate 60; \stopMPpage Every time I run this, it shows the same result. I tried playing around with the randomseed, but for instance when I do two runs shortly after each other they still are very predictable. E.g. this in METAPOST: whatever = lua( "math.randomseed( tonumber(tostring(os.time()):reverse():sub(1,6)) )"); randomseed := lua.math.random(); minutespast := uniformdeviate 60; Called shortly after each other (two LMTX runs) gets me the same result. What is a good way to get better random numbers in METAPOST (LMTX)? [NTG-context] How could I find the 'depth' of an element found with xml.first()?
Given the following XML snippet OmaFoo How would I go about to find the depth of an item found with an LPATH? E.g. //[id="Foo_3"] would find a node at depth 2 (assuming is at level 0) while //[id=“Fuzz_2"] would find a node at depth 3 and in either cases I would like to get that number (2 or 3) as well as the actual node. I can assume the values for ‘id’ are unique. I was wondering how I could go about finding the ‘depth’ of an item in the XML when using the LMTX built-in functions to work with XML. I don’t think there is a default function for that, is there? [NTG-context] accessing xml element attributes in lua, how, if you do not want to use the .at scheme?
I’ve been trying to find out how I can access XML node properties/attributes in lua other than via the .at syntactic scheme but using the property/attribute name as a string. E.g., currently I do: someVar = someNode.at.someProperty but I would like to do something like someVar = someNode[“someProperty”] or someNode.attribute(“someProperty”) or something where I can use the string version of the properties/attribute name. It’s probably possible (after all these are all dynamic structures that come from data), but how exactly? Does this apply the effect only to Latin characters in Optima and not to
Cyrcillic characters in Helvetica? I am trying to understand the syntax and if
I read this it seems to get applied to cyrillic in this case.

[NTG-context] How to define a font with an effect as a font with \definefont
Wityh this working example:
\starttext
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog
\definefontfeature
[effect-widen]
[effect={width=.2,delta=0.3}]
\definedfont[Sans*widen,effect-widen]
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog
\stoptext
I am puzzling to turn my working \definedfont into a \definefont so I can use
that instead.
Actually, my setup is Optima with Helvetica used for Cyrillic:
\definefallbackfamily
[archimate]
[ss]
[Helvetica]
[preset=range:cyrillic,
tf=style:light,
it=style:lightoblique,
bf=style:regular,
bi=style:oblique,
force=yes,
rscale=1.0]
\definefontfamily [archimate] [ss] [Optima]
\setupbodyfont[archimate]
And I would like the effect to work on just the Optima font (which is a bit
light for this use)
I’ve been trying to work out using \definefont with the effect but have so far
failed.
