Hi,

just an additional generic(*) pointer to this:

This usually means that either the openvasmd isn't running or the gsad
can't contact the openvasmd.

(*) openvas-migrate, the /etc/default/* scripts as well as the startup
scripts are Kali specific. Thats the reason for the pointer to the Kali
forums where you can reach people knowing their content and possible
issues and workarounds for these.

as you're using Kali i would suggest to jump over to the Kali forums and
ask for support there. They know their packages way better then most
people at this list and can help you with specific issues with these.

It's sad to see that openvas demo image is non-working by default.

Tennable and Nexpose provide working trial vm images by default and openvas
should do the same.

Re: [Openvas-discuss] OpenVAS 8 on Ubuntu 14.04 with PPA SSL Cert and Additional software?

2016-05-02 Thread Jeff H
I think partially answered my questions. I was able to determine what third
party tools need to be installed and got that working ok.

As for the cert, I found that I can add -k /path/to/ssl/private.key and -c
/path/to/ssl/certificate.crt when starting gsad, but when doing so I can't
load the page. Chrome shows:

ERR_SSL_FALLBACK_BEYOND_MINIMUM_VERSION

curl shows:

$ curl https://localhost

curl: (35) Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to localhost:443

Removing those parameters and going back to the self signed cert works just
fine.

Hi,

> Can someone tell me where to look to find what the plugins are trying to run

you could have a look at the NASL Plugins for both scanners:

http://plugins.openvas.org/nasl.php?oid=80110
http://plugins.openvas.org/nasl.php?oid=110001

Adding a:

log_message(data:argv);

before the:

r = pread(cmd: arachni, argv: argv, cd: 1);

and

r = pread(cmd: cmdext, argv: argv, cd: 1);

in both NVTs could give you some debugging output about the used command
line in your GSA.

> Corresponding question - is Arachni really supported?

Have a look at this mailinglist post:

https://lists.wald.intevation.org/pipermail/openvas-discuss/2014-December/007180.html

> If not - how to remove the attempt to use it?

You can disable the NVTs in your scan config within the "Web application
abuses" family.

It's from get_array_elem() (openvas-libraries/nasl/nasl_var.c). Seems
there is something "strange" in an array. Hard to say what exactly is

Is it really *every* NVT or "only" the web based ones?
What is running on this target? Especially which web services?
Which scan config did you use? Which (web) services where detected by
the scanner?

The most common problem is that the target host is not considered alive
for some reason. You can check this by chaning "Alive Test" of the target

well, for new tarball releases of the same major release, it
is usually sufficient to just build and install the modules and
restart the services.

However, take a look at the CHANGES - thats the place where any
important note is placed about the new tarball release.

there is no other version for CentOS 7.2

OpenVAS is famous for having problems with GnuTLS every few years while
any other application using GnuTLS on the same system just works

happily i dedided to install it now on Fedora 22 after OpenVAS on CentOS

Re: [Openvas-discuss] openvas 8 , centos , problem: Failed to shake hands with peer: The TLS connection was non-properly terminated.

2015-12-17 Thread Rene Behring
Can you see any gpg process that is trying to generate a key?
After i had set up OpenVAS 8 as a Slave, the first connection establishment
between the Master and the Slave took a long time because the Salve was
generating a key.

don't kill random processes, that leads in failed status for the service
and may trigger a restart depeding on the systemd unit

the days where the service manager had no clue are gone!

systemctl stop service1 service2 service3
systemctl start service1 service2 service3

I have installed:

CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core)

openvas 8

and it all worked using the instructions below and I could do my
first scans.

Then after some days updates of packages and installed
applications I cannot run openvas anymore.

The management GUI works and I can add hosts etc but when
starting a scan either via gui or similar via command line it
fails with error 503.

openvas-check-setup

gives:

It seems like your OpenVAS-8 installation is OK.

but in openvasmd.log i find:

client:

Failed to shake hands with peer: The TLS connection was
non-properly terminated.

i have tried:

openvas-mkcert -f -q

openvas-mkcert-client -n -i

then stopped openvasmd

openvasmd --rebuild

and then restarted openvas using:

/openvasmd -p 9390 -a 0.0.0.0/

but with the same result.

Please, any ideas are welcome!

I have read that

"this is a bug in GnuTLS 3.3.8 that is fixed in 3.3.10"

I am using 3.3.8 but I cannot find a version 3.3.10 for Centos.

From the recent discussions I gather that the patch below about selinux
might be a sensible change?

If so, it might need some more refinement regarding the output, but that
shouldn't be a big problem.

The other part of the patch about GSAD_PORT I committed as r22920.
Thanks for the patch!

 Hello,

 It turned out that it is extremely hard to moderate a
 verified list of 3rd party packages with tested install guides.

 Therefore I simplified the package page to just a link list to
 third parties:

  http://www.openvas.org/install-packages.html

 Still, the support of the community is appreciated and required.
 But updating the page is now way faster as we will not check
 in detail whether the described installation routine or
 package do indeed work.

 All the best

 then i enable ldap auth in gsad for the user and after that i can login

 method:ldap in libopenvas misc sources.

 Can you provide an example of working config with method:ldapconfigured.

I am using OpenVAS trunk where there is no more a auth.conf file.
The settings are stored in the DB, select * from meta; will show them.

There is only one ldap method now which IIRC corresponds to ldap_connect.

I don't have OpenVAS-8 style at hand.

Anyway, indeed you need the ldap user to exist in LDAP and to exists in OpenVAS.

disabling selinux required reboot, logging permissive mode is possible
without rebooting.

you can use setenforce 0 to temporary disable selinux (permissive mode),
but you should make change permanent (in redhat configation file is located
in /etc/sysconfig/selinux)

Anyway, disabling selinux is not required, permissive mode works also fine.

setenforce is *not* meant for permanent configuration

add selinux=0 to your kernel line or just SELINUX=disabled to

Re: [Openvas-discuss] OpenVAS 8 LDAP Authentication

Hello, Jan-Oliver!

I've got the similar issues with openvas ldap auth setup, here is my
question on serverfault:
http://serverfault.com/questions/701008/openvas-ldap-authentication-configuration

In brief

I use:
openvas libraries - 8.0.3 openvas manager - 6.0.3
Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS

Openvas components compiled with ldap support :

ldd /usr/sbin/openvasmd | grep ldap
libldap_r-2.4.so.2 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2
(0x7f83fdead000)

When i try to configure method:ldap in auth.conf config, i've got in
openvasmd.log:

lib auth:WARNING:2015-06-23 12h04.38 utc:15352: Unsupported authentication
method: method:ldap

When i try to enable method:ldap_connect, everything works fine, but for
premade users. So i create a user in ldap, then i create user in openvas,
then i enable ldap auth in gsad for the user and after that i can login
with the user ldap uid and pass to gsad web interface. It seems like it
works like getent not a ldapsearch. I can't also find the reference to
method:ldap in libopenvas misc sources.

Can you provide an example of working config with method:ldapconfigured.
Thanks!

lib auth:WARNING:2015-06-23 12h04.38 utc:15352: Unsupported authentication
method: method:ldap

When i try to enable method:ldap_connect, everything works fine, but for
premade users. So i create a user in ldap, then i create user in openvas,
then i enable ldap auth in gsad for the user and after that i can login
with the user ldap uid and pass to gsad web interface. It seems like it
works like getent not a ldapsearch. And I've noticed that if i set
logging level to 128 in openvasmd logging config in openvasmd.log i can get
password/login of the user trying to connect in plain text format. I can't
also find the reference to method:ldap in libopenvas misc sources.

Can you provide an example of working config with method:ldapconfigured.
Thanks!

I take the uuid of report-format oval-sc available on the greenbone website
because if I put UUID=”uuid”, I haven't id for the report-format. The

More information:: In response to the probe 0x00, 0x00,0x27, 0x29, the port
in question returns 0x00, 0x00, which is less than the minimum of 4 bytes
requested by the script. If I run the script alone:
# openvas-nasl -X -t target -d gb_sap_router_detect.nasl
And, on the target, I run:
$ ncat -kl 3299
Then the script times out after 5 seconds. But if I press enter on ncat
when probed, the script hangs forever. I think this is expected.

When running from OpenVAS 7/Greenbone using the Full and fast configuration,
the TCP connection is terminated after 120 seconds. I don't know why this
times out -- the plugins_timeout is 320 seconds.

When running on OpenVAS 8, it never times out, and needs to be stopped manually.

I have tcpdumps of both scans, but it doesn't tell much beyond the above. I'll
see if I can find a simple way to reproduce this.

What you mean by default? Think ldap support is compiled only, if ldap-devel
package is installed in system before compilation.
This is just a my guess based on sources:

  g_debug (loading auth: %s, config_file);

It says Authentication configuration not found, if file does not exists. I
cannot say much more without modifying source code.
You could try starting openvasmd process under strace like that:

strace -f -e open,g_build_filename,g_file_test -o /tmp/openvasmd.strace.log
/usr/local/sbin/openvasmd and then

I think that correct location of auth.conf is OPENVAS_STATE_DIR/AUTH_CONF_FILE
so this might be like
/usr/local/var/lib/openvas/openvasmd/auth.conf

because:

#define AUTH_CONF_FILE openvasmd/auth.conf

Maybe you really didn't compile ldap support for openvas or syntax is
incorrect in file.

check also that openvasmd is linked to ldap: ldd /usr/local/sbin/openvasmd
|grep ldap

looks like this, if support is enabled:

ldd /usr/local/sbin/openvasmd |grep ldap

libldap_r-2.4.so.2 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2

 What you mean by default? Think ldap support is compiled only, if
 ldap-devel package is installed in system before compilation.

 This is just a my guess based on sources:

Re: [Openvas-discuss] OpenVAS 8 LDAP Authentication

2015-04-14 Thread Eero Volotinen
Well, by looking sources:

 key_file = g_key_file_new ();

  config_file = g_build_filename (OPENVAS_STATE_DIR, AUTH_CONF_FILE, NULL);

  if (!g_file_test (config_file, G_FILE_TEST_EXISTS))

{

  g_log (lib auth, G_LOG_LEVEL_INFO,

 Authentication configuration not found.\n);

  initialized = TRUE;

  return 0;

}

  g_debug (loading auth: %s, config_file);

It says Authentication configuration not found, if file does not exists.
I cannot say much more without modifying source code.
You could try starting openvasmd process under strace like that:

strace -f -e open,g_build_filename,g_file_test -o /tmp/openvasmd.strace.log
/usr/local/sbin/openvasmd and then
then grep auth /tmp/openvasmd.strace.log to find correct location of auth
config filename

Well.

I think that correct location of auth.conf is
OPENVAS_STATE_DIR/AUTH_CONF_FILE so this might be like
/usr/local/var/lib/openvas/openvasmd/auth.conf

because:

#define AUTH_CONF_FILE openvasmd/auth.conf

maybe documentation is a bit out of date?

Err. my problem was fixed installing pdflatex and texl* packages.

anyway, you should edit file

/usr/local/share/openvas/openvasmd/global_report_formats/c402cc3e-b531-11e1-9163-406186ea4fc5/generate
manually or apply this patch to get faster pdf generation (doubles the
speed of pdf generation). it removes the duplicate pdf generation command
from file.

What you mean by default? Think ldap support is compiled only, if ldap-devel
package is installed in system before compilation.
This is just a my guess based on sources:

-- Looking for libldap...

-- No ldap library found - ldap support disabled

 I’m running into this when I run cmake for the libraries

 Hi,

 Install EPEL repo into Centos *) and then just install needed libraries
 (like libssh-devel, libssh-devel, hiredis-devel) and repeat cmake .. until
 it stops complaining.

 *) rpm -Uhv
 http://mirror.serverbeheren.nl/epel/7/x86_64/e/epel-release-7-5.noarch.rpm
  yum update

Another side note: I didn't find any repo that provides sqlfairy
(sqltranslator perl modules), so I compiled them using cpan.
