backup steps
1. from the app we have, we must backup to a file the app settings and the 
user saved files (if we have). I don't suggest the backup of map files - 
those are very large (see step 2).
2. we copy the main app working folder ( net.osmand.plus). Here are all the 
maps (large files)
with those 2 steps, we can reinstall the user app data after  1. device 
hard reser, 2. buy new smartphone, 3. device damage, 4. clone/backup 
device,  etc

restore steps
*with the help of a file manager*
the path of memory location  ..next we have this name   */android/data/*
here we place the app folder
one example for internal memory location >>>  /storage/emulated/0/
*android/data*/net.osmand.plus

after a clean / new install from playstore, we visit into android apps 
settings for the osmand settings. Then we set permisions for 1. storage 2. 
location
*then we run for first time the app*

last step
- restore the user settings and saved file 
- maybe we have to visit the internal app settings > osmand settings > data 
storage folder
to set the new user location data (if we have issues)

into my last device (5 years) and android 10 (no root), there is no sd card 
slot. I do only those steps.
- install app from playstore
- visit android settings > and set osmand app permisions for 1. storage 2. 
location
- copy from usb otg memory the folder */net.osmand.plus* (6.3GB map files) 
at smartphone location >  */android/data/*
- run the app for first time with no working folder issue
- restore user settings

the link you have post is 1 month old. I have also test into my device the 
versions 4.3.0 and 4.3.1.
at both of them versions into my device, the 2.5D option is not visible. 
The setting we can see into the picture from the page of this link is not 
 appear into my case. I must visit settings > osmand settings > map 
rendering engine and then choose "version 2 openGL". Then is working
 
Now there is the version 4.3.2 into the playstore as final for some 
"special users". The 10% of the total

from my experience to various navigation apps, all the apps help the driver 
what to do  only during navigation. Real or simulated. This help is 
missing when the user is viewing the map only.

into your case that you don't see any of those missing info, you can see 
videos into youtube and make a screenshot or share the link with time info

 i will disagree with this new openGL engine. New osmand app 4.2 has 
increased the file size over 80%, probably and the battery consumption. It 
has also bugs and a few crashes. As we all have seen for over 20 years, PND 
or smartphones, for outdoor activities use 2D maps. If we choose city 
navigation YES, apps like sygic or tomtom use 3D maps.

That's why, i will suggest to osmand company to stop using 4.2 version and 
continue to improve the old 4.1 with features like the new settings from 
4.2 version. If osmand company believes to 3D maps for some users (?), they 
can open a new page at playstore, with this new version of "Osmad 3D 
navigation" 

New 4.2 osmand has made to to return to apps like orux or locus for app 
stability and battery autonomy.

have you visit the link into the first post ? there you can see the 
download section. The first two sections has only mbtiles. The next two 
parts has also .sqlitedb links.

*i don't have use so far those files for osnamd*, but the general idea is 
to copy those files into the main folder of osmand using a fle manager app. 
Then start the app, visit "download section" and see it has recognise the 
new maps. If it yes, disable the osmand original map files and use only the 
openandromaps.

it has two world maps files. One internal during the application install 
and one for download at companay servers. When i test both of them i found 
the follow zoom in levels
- World_basemap (*max zoom level 11*)
World_basemap.obf > 383.087.163 bytes
- World_basemap_mini *(max zoom level 8*)
World_basemap_mini.obf > 47.297.879 bytes

Compared with openandromaps world maps, it seems very huge difference in 
file size. Does anyone know what is going on ?

OAM-World-1-10-png.sqlitedb > 7.012.143.808

i will assume that you have at least the version 4.1.11

Also get in mind, that sometimes some problems solved only with a clean 
install. Yes, this is painful, but it works if after a long time we can't 
solve the issue we have. At this case, i hope the user have a small 
download amount of data (maps). About the user personal data like 
favorites, routes, ... etc, this is not a problem because the app have a 
very detail backup / restore option. I will suggest to reject the backup of 
app settings, because maybe this cause the issue.

The procedure is very simple. visit android settings / apps / osmand
- stop the app, clear cache, clear data, uninstall
- run one file manager and check if the app data folder is still alive and 
do a manual delete
- reboot the device
- visit playstore and download again the osmand
- very important, before the run go again at android settings / apps / 
osmand and manually enable the permissions of 1. storage 2. location

now run the app, download the map that you said with the issue and for a 
small period of time test it. If you are 100% sure that you have solved the 
issue, restore the user data and check again. Last step, start to setup the 
app with your personal settings and check if the issue return.

- hard reset and immediately on first boot, not even connected to internet, 
i will had to check the issue

- i must found a same device model to check the issue
- i must visit the repair center (if the device has warranty)

with those conclusions, i will able to decide. It seems very possible to 
must buy a new device. *NOT the same model* and company of course.

example. i press into android upper pull down menu, the option "pause" and 
it works with no issue. After a small period of moving, the osmand was into 
"sleep" mode. When i press to start again, the app start again as it should

in my case, the method 1 is working. Maybe it has to do that my smartphone 
is  PND. There is no sim card inside and it is set to airplane mode. 
wifi also to OFF mode into my experiments.
With this method there is also the "simulate navigation" option. You can 
"see" like a video the route

about "plan route"
if you need to share the gpx file with other applications or original 
outodoor PND like garmin, i suggest to set the option "simplified track" to 
ON. It is at save window.

i will suggest the method of backup / restore from osmand settings menu. 
This action is using files with extension of .osf

Use a device that can import the favorites.gpx file and there, use the 
backup procedure. For your case, only to export the favorites. Then, go to 
the problematic device and use the restore option from settings.

 if a user is stuck in a problem after a lot of efforts to solve it, there 
are 2 scenarios, software bug or app malfunction. 
On both cases, a clean install wil help. Don't forget that the last version 
of osmand 4.1.11 has a very detailed backup / restore feature. Begin the 
clean install with default / clean settings and check what is going on. 
Then, restore one by one everything and at every restore point do a test.

i want to present my results about the auto center for the map. The 
programmers of osmand they have done an excellent job, there is no issue at 
all.
1.
There is no "auto center map" if we don't have active route. 
2.
I made a simple test of a pedestrian route with my active position and a 
destination place after 2km. I have set auto center map at 10seconts. I 
move the map and wait. After 10 sec the map return at my place. After this, 
i end  the route and set "never" for auto map center. I set once again the 
same final destination, move the map and wait for over 1 minute. The map 
stay away from my location - never auto center.

 from a technical point of view this does not make sense. repeat the test 
with an other different model of power bank to the samsung and with the 
existing your power bank repeat this test to an other smartphone. After

on rotation with movement we have 75/25 into vertical alignment

this what i know from my use. if there is also option inside the app menus,

Menu - *all* profiles - General settings - Display position always in 
center = *OFF*

but i have no issue when i am in motion with osmand. The location icon on 
the button is "white" and always the map is moving with me, no matter if i 
am pedestrian or with a car

i will say, that the osmand app has some options to cover all the users 
desires. there is no wrong or right option, there is only what I like for 
my needs.

1.
osmand has 2 options for the user location on the map (vertical) .
- on the center of the map (50/50)
- at 3/4 of the map (75/25)

2.
osmand has also the rotation of the map
- north always up
- rotation with compass
- rotation with movement

3. location data = coordinates (2D) and elevation (3D)

Those info are result from the GNSS receiver we have into a device, like a 
PND or smartphone. All the others are generated - calculated from the 
running software of the devices we have.

i will suggest to users with android 11 or higher to try to use / move / 
install the osmand 4.1 and later at location "*multiuser storage 1* (/ 
android/odd) " . There is option for this inside the app settings.

i am using android 10. With this version there no issue like you have. But 
i have test the location " / *android/odd*" for the data of maps, dem, 
gpx, etc as a *common folder* for the apps of locus maps and orux map 
simultaneously .

i don't know what is your experience with computers. I will suggest a 
logical procedure to help you.

- run the osmand and try to backup your settings, tracks, history, etc. 
then exit
- run a file manager into your smartphone device and locate the osmand app 
working folder with the maps files. Then 1. rename the root folder of 
osmand app with a strange name like "christmas" or 2. move (not copy) the 
folder into another safe place
- visit android settings - apps , found the osmand and make  stop the 
app, clear data, clear cache, uninstall the app. reboot the device
- visit google store and install again the app
- run again the fresh install and restore your settings. exit the app
don't use the default option of hidden folder on first run, change this 
option 
i will suggest to install the new fresh osmand into this folder
/storage/emulated/0/android/data/

- run again the file manager and manually move *one by one* all the maps 
files from old install, into the new fresh folder at the same locations

track recording into amateur devices is very well know issue over 20 years 
now. Only military equipment or professional devices has sub meter or cm 
accuracy into static or moving measurement, for PPP or RTK signal reception.

If someone need to improve the problematic recording track it has, i 
suggest to look for "GNSS post processing" software. I have not made any 
test, this is something i read. I hope it works.

2.

i repeat my test (>40Km). The new results shows issue. When we use "follow 
the track" with no add new destination, there is no problem.
when i repeat a lot of times, follow the track and add a new destination, 1 
up to many times is working. And only the first time. If i exit and run 
again the app, it works at first time

i made a new track using "plan route" tool near to my house. I save the 
track. Then i recall this track and add a new destination point. No issue. 
I repeat a lot of times this test with every time new point. 100% no issue

conclusion
is there any issue with long distanse route ? maybe

i don't have any experience with this option into osmand. Also i have not 
test the 3.9.10 vs 4.0.5 versions for this issue you are saying. But i have 
an idea.

Try to add a new point as final destination to your "follow track" route. 
The old one final destination will be now " intermediate stop" 
test this and see if this action solve your problem

probably we are all belong at those customers that like osmand but has 
issues with the power needs of this app. I will suggest a few solutions for 
those people use osmand without a vehicle that have power charger.

solution 1
I am using from 2012, navigation with android devices. This solution has 
transformed the android smartphone into a PND and no as a mobile device. 
This is very easy, there is no sim card inside, always into airplane mode, 
with a lot of disabled features into android settings. After the hard reset 
or after the first use "out the box", i visit playstore to install only a 
few navigation apps. With this solution i have the maximum energy autonomy.

i have made a lot of tests with osmand last years. Into city navigation i 
used sygic and for outdoor activities i had locus maps and osmand. At both 
situations osmand had 200-300% more power consumption. So, it will be OK, 
if we use osnand for car navigation only with car charge. For outdoor use, 
we must have a solar panel or 5mAh power bank. Don't wait from the 
company to change the programming code of app to have less power 
consumption into the furure.

about the question from post 1, i have to add one new very important info. 
i have test this with android 10

if we have a brand new device, or hard reset the exist device, or we must 
reinstall the osmand after clean install, etc and we must use the folder of 
a working install, to save time from download the maps again, please use 
this tip
- when we download from playstore the application *we don't run* 
immediately the osmand. We must visit andoid setting into section apps. 
There, we must found osmand app and we have to enable permissions for 
"storage"
this is the only way for osmand app to "see" *into first run* the old user 
original backup folder, if we have it at location of 
/storage/emulated/0/android/data/ at internal memory

for people just like you, with low experience to computers, yes android is 
linux, i suggest the following

- open osmand app and visit settings
- on the end you will find the option export
- in the next screen find the map data and choose at your device a place to 
save them that you have access

then go to other device and make import ... the maps

how to move data between the 2 devices ??? you can use for example one usb 
memory with OTG or the usb port of a pc computer

Don't waste your time with scientific analysis about the route algorithm of 
osmand. After 10 years, the company has decided to choose this working 
philosophy, for some reasons. It will be never like the sygic aura, tomtom 
go, or here we go. Osmand it is not a true city navigation software, it is 
an adventure app

the name of the export file Export_21-05-21.osf, it was an example of the 
date i wrote the post. The osmand app creates file names, at the same date 
of the device we use.

to your device, visit - settings, osmand settings, data storage folder. If 
by default is the option 1, this is the android hidden folder. chose another

yes, my device is running android 10 (now). But osmand knows about android 
11. Somehow the user must backup / restore the settings

i am using 3 applications that have the ability to import / export routes. 
Those are, osmand - locus map - oruxmaps. I can  exchange between all of 
them .gpx or .kml files with no issue

- how to remove the link
osmand app has the ability to save settings into a file. Inside this file 
is the solution

- open osmand and export all the settings. Not the data folder
- this file   "Export_21-05-21.osf"   must transfer to your desktop 
PC
- rename the extension from   .osf to  .zip
- unzip this zip file into one folder
- there will be 12 files with extension of .json
- edit the file   general_settings.jsonwith windows 
applicationnotepad++
- found the line  "gps_status_app": "",
- delete any name inside like "gpstest" and make it empty like this 
""
- save file  general_settings.json
- zip again the 12 files .json with the same file name  as it was 
before
- rename  .zip to   .osf
- import this new file to osmand

there is no misunderstanding. And of course you want to connect at several 
alternative gnss-apps, one is osmand No1 and No2 is the gpstest, at the 
same time. When you are running osmand, inside this app there is one option 
to run one external app, this is the gpstest. This is one gnss app for 
information and demand access to smartphone hardware. So, the android OS, 
make the osmand app background and the gpstest app as foreground. The OS 
stop to the background app the gnss access and let the foreground app 
gpstest to have access to the gnss receiver.

theoretically it is useful, in practical it is not working. Τwo gnss apps 
can't have simultaneous access to gnss chip. When the No2 is running the No 
1 has stopped.

That's why i suggest to exit the No 1 run the No2 and then re-run the No1. 
Android OS remember and will continue at the same spot of every app we have 
exit

for me, the osmand is the worst solution for car city navigation

- there is no 3D navigation
- can't run into old devices with low hardware specs (1GB ram, 4 CPU cores)
- it consume a lot of energy
- the route algorithm needs for every Km, time up to 1 sec

into the market , there are competitive apps like Magic Earth, MapFactor or 
MAPS.ME. All of them are using osm maps and none of the 4 reasons i have 
say can be found when we are using those apps. As an example i want to say 
that ...
- when we use osmand into city route of 50-60 km, the time is 15-20sec only 
for ONE result. With those 3 other apps the route results can be from 1-3 
answers and the time results, long as 1-2 sec. The tests have been done 
into my device.

for city navigation i suggest maps only from tomtom, here and google

if I understood correctly you have 2 issues with the application 
1. slow time results from the route algorithm
2. the ETA (Estimated time of arrival) has bad results

After 3 decades, the manufacturers of navigation products, have many 
different solutions, depending on the needs of the consumer. That's why *i 
have found*, it is better to use sygic or here wego for car navigation into 
the city and the osmand for 4x4 car navigation into the nature.

2. only the GOD knows the true ETA answer. The navigation software tries. 
How ... ??? i will say what i have learn
- collect in real time traffic data from data servers using internet access
- using statistics when we navigate from our device
- No3 but very important, the map data has integrated traffic data. If we 
have one map provider like HERE or tomtom, we have very good results. But 
what about the free osm map provider

if your route is less direct, more scenic.  To reduce possible 
discrepancies, place your interim positions not on intersections but 
between them.  That way, the routing algorithm will better "understand" the 
route you have in mind.

this is how a navigate

i am using osmand for outdoor activities. Into the mountains the "roads" 
are very rare. That's why i believe that the app doesn't have to change 
anything. I must force the app to navigate me just like i design. Only the 
osmand has internal "by default" turn by turn navigation. Not the locus or 
orux.
Into the city  i use sygic or here wego. I don't make any route plan at 
all. I let the app to navigate me.

import into his navigation system this gpx file and make "follow the route" 
at 100% . For me this is the logical action. It seems that other users or 
companies disagree with this action.
