Re-loading XP for audio

2004-08-16 Thread Rick
OK,
Enough is enough! My daughter has an XP Standard 2 gig machine with 512 ram
and 40 gig drive she is giving me. It's sort of messed up as I think she
has picked up some
nasty things from the net. So, she recommends wiping the drive and
recommends re-installing the XP O.S. I agree, I would like to tailor the
machine to what I want it to do. It's running Soundblaster Live, has a
couple of good speakers and a sub woofer. So, given that we are going to
re-load XP to get a clean machine, any suggestions as to settings for good
audio production and especially accessibility of audio software? The
machine was from Dell so we have all their software as well if any of it is
useful. I want to record my guitar and share music back and forth with
others so we can build songs together over the net or using my website as an
upload, download home base of operations. She is Sighted and will help me
re load the OS, or I can pay a fellow to come in and do it for a small
charge who is an experienced pro. In either case, any suggestions as to
anything such as settings before I delete the entire system?
Thanks:

Hi, it might not be the best thing for the records, but what has worked for
me, when a record has been badly abused, like some of mine are.
use a spray bottle, with water and a little shot of vinegar in it, mist the
record, and play it before it is dry. you can wipe off the access water with
a soft cloth, or paper towel,
don't know why, but it seems to improve the quality.
hope this helps

I don't know depopper but it's nice to know of other things people use

think it matters much. It costs $45 u.s. and it does have a lot of cool
features including, get this, a setting that automatically changes the
speed of a .wav file such that if you have a 78 rpm stylus but not a 78
rpm speed, you can record the record at 45 and the program will jack it up

You aren't missing anything. They seemed to have taken out the MSAA

and
therefore not as enjoyable. Here's how I do a search. Go down past the
playlist region with your mouse keys. When you hear the word artist,
click
on it. Window-eyes should just say combo box. Do a shift-tab and go back
to the search edit box. It will only be one shift-tab. If you don't have
to change your search from artist you just write what you want in the text
box and hit return. If you want to change the search to track, say, when
you're sitting on the combo box just hit the first letter, t for track.
Then go back to the edit box, type in the string and hit enter. I'm
working
 on some sets.

Hi Jay. Actually I have a copy of Wave Corrector and have used its automatic
scan features to remove pops and clicks. But I can't figure out how to
access some of its features that let you edit manually. I can't even make it

commands to help you get around the graphics and edit beyond the default

Re: mp3 vs wav

2004-08-16 Thread Gary Wood
Well MP3 files should be smaller than wav files. You can put ten times as
much on an MP3 file. In other words, you can put up to ten hours of music
on an MP3 CD, whereas you can only put a little over one hour's worth of
music on a music CD, which is wav. So that means with the same CD, an MP3
file is one-tenth the size of a regular Wav file music CD.

Hi, Larry,
I doubt there's anything either of us can do beyond what we can read in the
dialog boxes, that's true. So I'm curious to try the other program for
comparisson. I don't remember how I happened on Wave Corector, but I do
remember that I needed something to run other than the click/pop remover in
Cooledit cuz it ran slower than a snail in winter on my old pooder. If I
wanna just remove one offensive pop, I use cool edit to select just that
bit and save it and then use wave corrector to doctor up only that bit.
Now, with my faster machine, I may have a fightin' chance with Cool Edit.
Thanks to you guys for the other recommendations.

access some of its features that let you edit manually. I can't even make it
stop when playing. I can preview a corrected file by hitting the space bar
and pause it using space, but can't find how to stop it. Are their keyboard
commands to help you get around the graphics and edit beyond the default
settings?

I don't know depopper but it's nice to know of other things people use
and like. The one I use is wave corrector it does miracles right out of
the box and even though it's graphics aren't accessible to us, I don't
think it matters much. It costs $45 u.s. and it does have a lot of cool
features including, get this, a setting that automatically changes the
speed of a .wav file such that if you have a 78 rpm stylus but not a 78
rpm speed, you can record the record at 45 and the program will jack it up
 to the proper speed.

Hi. I've always used Goldwav to eliminate pops and clicks from albums

contain a good deal of crackle. I can't seem to eliminate with Goldwav,
Sound Forge and Adobe Audition are out of my budget, and anything in the
shareware range that claims to eliminate crackle seems to be
inaccessible.
 Any ideas?

Online Yamaha text manual library

2004-08-16 Thread David R. Sky
For those who are interested, the Canadian Yamaha rep Omar Ales [EMAIL PROTECTED]
forwarded me some information about Yamaha's new online text manual library.
Information below.

David

You can access the Yamaha Text Manual Library at the following URL:

http://www.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/text/index.html

The linkage setting is made at the top of the Manual Library. I believe every
visually impaired person who visits the normal Manual Library can easily find the
link. Please check it at the following URL:

http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/index.html

The available languages are two, English and Japanese, currently. We will increase
the available languages to the same number as the ones with the normal Library. Until
then, we respond to each request, one by one, made for the languages other than
English and Japanese.

Re: mlb and dropout

2004-08-16 Thread Charles Adkins
True, but I only have the dropouts in audio when the announcer is between
frazes, like it's with their technology rather than my stream.

Yes, I've had the same software issue. I just close the player window and
re-click the link featuring the game I want.

If you use the mouse-pointer (assuming you use Window-eyes) there is an icon
that says something like change preferences or something close to that.
The audio--despite come of the things I have read on this listis a far
cry from what it was last year with a broadband connection. It's so bad,
they should almost be paying me to have it, but I'm a baseball nut so I'm an
easy sell.

Hope that helps, if not let me know off list...Chuck

Subject: mlb and dropout

Just wondering if others have noticed more dropout when listening to
baseball games on mlb gameday audio? We moved and I had to switch from
earthlink dsl
to sbcglobal dsl. Don't know if it's because I'm using it more now or if
sbcglobal has a tighter bandwidth or what, but the games seem to drop out a
lot more than
I remember. REally iritating when it drops right in the middle of an
exciting play.

Also, does anyone know how to change your player and speed preferences
once you've set them up?

Finally, I get a message every day or two that real player needs
additional software to play this stream and then proceeds to check for it.
It nereports that no
software update is available and there's an ok button. When this happens,
I get no audio and have to click on the station link again to get it
started. It
happens only every so often as though it only checks for updates
periodically. Anyone else noticing this?

 Thanks,

 Don

This started because I contacted Yamaha last year for a text manual of their
PSR170. Maybe you could do the same with Roland?

Glad it helped!

Re: mp3 wav1 conversion program

2004-08-16 Thread Gary Piroshco
I've been using Simple MP3 Maker for a year for converting between wave and
mp3, as well as for ripping and recording from external sources (e.g. tape
decks). I have an old AMD K6 300 with windows 98 and JAWS 3.7U. I know
you're asking about Window Eyes, but IT WORKS great with JAWS with no
Customizing or scripts, so I'm sure it'll work with W E. it's freeware with
no spyware or other nasties at
http://www.sofotex.com/Simple-MP3-Maker-download_L4564.html

Subject: mp3 wav1 conversion program

Hello list;
I am running an old version of Windoweyes on a win 98 machine but will be
going on to an xp machine soon I think. For now, I use total recorder to
create a file in wav1 format. I' tried to create it using mp3 but cant get
the button for change file type to work when saving the file. Anyway, I
want to convert the wav1 file to mp3 for uploading to my website. What is
an easy and Windoweyes friendly way to do this if anyone knows? I'm trying
to work with one free ware program another site lister gave me but it isn't
working yet and I'm not sure it will with Windoweyes. So, any suggestions?
Thanks:
Rick USA
