Subject: creating audio files from other files

Hi all,

What program or programs would I use to take a small piece of a large
wav
file and make a wav or mp3 file out of it? In other words, I have a wav
file
that runs for about thirty minutes, and there are several segments, each

just a few seconds long, that I want to make into their own individual
files.

Is there a way to do this without forking out cash? If not, I am open to

paying for a program, as I may do this quite often in the future. And of

course, I'm looking for the ideal combination of functionality and
accessibility with a screen reader.

Thanks,
Scott

Mp3 music on a DVD. Now there's an idea. I imagine if this is possible
then

you could perhaps contain an artists complete discography on one DVD? I'm
assuming a DVD has more than 1 Gig of space, otherwise you'd just place
the
discography on a regular CD. Which is fine if you only have a discography
of
8 albums or so. But if an artists discography amounts to some 15 albums,
then
a DVD with the space of perhaps 2 Gigs would certtainly be the way to go.
If
this is the way you went and you placed all of an artists discography on
one
DVD in mp3 format, could you then play that DVD on a stereo slash mp3
player?

Hmmm. Now 14 Cat Stevens mp3 albums on one DVD playing all day on one DVD
disc. Man I'd be teasing Buddha in Katmandoo with a chocolate bull at four
on

a broken morning in room C79 while I waited for the peace train. But is it
really possible to place a 15 album discography on one DVD and play it on
an

mp3 player?

Hi all.

I've converted 14 Roy Harper albums to mp3 format and would like to back
these up onto a DVD to save disks. I'm using Easy CD Creator version 6.0

would really welcome a step by step at how to achieve this. I've

Keyboard Controls

2005-07-29 Thread Gary Wood
Hi all. I have a Dell Computer. I used to have a Gateway, but now, I still
use my Gateway keyboard. When I used a Gateway, I could turn the volume up or
down with the controls on the top of the keyboard. They are arrow keys. The
up-arrow, or the one that points up turned the volume up and the downward
pointing arrow turned the volume down. I was able to turn the audio dial on
the speakers all the way up, then turn the volume on the keyboard to a
listenable level. There were also other controls on the top of the computer.
Since I use a Dell, I can no longer control the volume this way. I went to
Gateway.COM to get a driver, possibly, but they asked for a serial number. Is
there anything I can do, so I can continue to use the volume controls on the
keyboard? If not, can something like a Logitech do something like this? I
hope there's a simple solution to this problem.

Re: I want to find out about cd ex

2005-07-29 Thread Kevin Lloyd
You can change the default folder where CDEX will output your ripped

tracks by making the following changes:

A.. Press F4 to enter the settings dialogue

B.. Press shift and tab and then left arrow until you reach the

filenames tab

C.. Press tab until you reach the WAVMP3 control

D.. Press enter to open a browse folders dialogue.

E.. Select the folder where you'd like CDEX to place your ripped tracks

and open the folder by pressing the right arrow key

F.. Press tab until you reach OK and press enter to confirm the choice

of output folder

G.. Press tab until you reach OK and press enter to confirm your changes

You can change the format of the track names and the folders that

CDEX will create when ripping by making the following changes:

A.. Press F4 to enter the settings dialogue

B.. Press shift and tab and then left arrow until you reach the

filenames tab

C.. Tab once to the output file format and directories edit field. If

you are confident with the naming conventions, you can edit your preferences

directly into this field. Otherwise, tab once more and press the output

file format and directories button. Use your JAWS or screen review cursor

to read the options available. In brief, the main options of interest are:

%1 Artist information

%2 Album information

%3 Track number

%4 Track name

%5 CD Volume ID

%6 CDDB ID

%7 Track number with leading zero

The \ character will create a subfolder. For example, if placed between %1

and %2, the CD album titles will be output in a subfolder under the artist

name.

D.. Tab to the ok button and press enter to confirm the new settings.

2005-07-29 Thread Caroline Ford
I am using an on-board AC97 sound card.

I found that there was an updated driver for the sound card on Windows Update
and I have downloaded that and installed it. Somehow this seems to have put
everything back to how it should be, although I can't work out why as there
seems to be no software setting which would allow me to switch between mono and
stereo.

At least it's working properly again now.

Thanks,

I don't have a problem recording in stereo. If I make a recording in
 Total
Recorder and transfer it to another device, such as my BookCourier, it
 plays
back in stereo as do any other MP3's I transfer from my PC. The problem
 is
that I cannot get any files to play back in stereo on the PC itself, even
pre-existing MP3's which I've ripped from CD's which used to play in
 stereo
until recently. The only two culprits which might have been responsible
 for
switching play back to mono are Goldwave and Total Recorder 5.2 which I
installed at roughly the same time. I initially thought Goldwave was
responsible, but the upgrade to Total Recorder could also be to blame,
although I only upgraded from 5.1 to 5.2, so it's unlikely that there
 would
have been any fundamental changes in that respect.

If anyone can suggest where I need to look for the setting which governs
play back in mono or stereo, I'd be grateful. Even the windows sounds are
playing back in mono at present.

Claude,
Right in one. It is a recorder, that only records to compact flash. It
records at a maximum resolution of 24 bit, and a maximum sampling rate of
44.1 khz. There is no transport on the recorder, it's entirely solid
state,

making it truly skip-free in recording and playback. It has a pare of
Built-in microphones which believe it or not provide a great stereo image.
It has reverb, I think it has a chorus, an equalizer, a real, honest to
god

compresser, and a mic-simulater to simulate different sounds of some
microphones. The best part is it costs less than a PTR1, about $400 at
Chirping bat, about as much as a high end Minidisk recorder.
The transfer to the pC is easily the most simple in a high end
recorder.

Windows recognises it as a USB mass storage device, and the wave or mp3
files, you do have a choice, Are right on the card. So if you know how to
use windows explorer, you know how to transfer.
Thanks,
Nick

Nick, do you actually have one in hand? I'm starting to hear reports

thrilled with the unit, but not because of its ability (or inability)
to make a good recording. Apparently some folks have some issues with
the design of the case, ease (or lack thereof), of removing or
inserting the FLASH memory module, ... mechanical things which, over
time, could put stress on the unit and cause it to break down. I
don't know about you or how you use these things, but, large or small,
recorders tend to get batted around a bit--they fall of tables, get
knocked around inside backpacks, come into contact with coins and keys
in pockets (which had better mean there are no metal contacts on the
outside of the unit for interfacing with mains power or battery
chargers like some other appliances I've used over the course of my
electronic life), etc. Also, I'm generally not thrilled with devices
like this in plastic cases, which I know the R1 definitely has. But
I'm still willing to give it a shot because I've heard it does its
main job well, and that's what I'm buying it for--to record. I'll
figure a way to deal with the rest if I have to.

As long as the wav file in question doesn't exceed 76mb,
you can use sound recorder.
You will have to do the editing manually, because there are no time markers
that can be set.

You will need to save each new file with a different
name so as to preserve the original file.
HTH,
RQJ

Subject: creating audio files from other files

Hi all,

What program or programs would I use to take a small piece of a large wav
file and make a wav or mp3 file out of it? In other words, I have a wav
file that runs for about thirty minutes, and there are several segments,
each just a few seconds long, that I want to make into their own
individual files.

Is there a way to do this without forking out cash? If not, I am open to
paying for a program, as I may do this quite often in the future. And of
course, I'm looking for the ideal combination of functionality and
accessibility with a screen reader.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott

I'd seriously recommend that you check out GoldWave at:
http://www.goldwave.com/. Not sure of the cost though I believe it is
around $25. There are jaws scripts available and a fantastic list to assist
beginners.

Best wishes.

Mp3 music on a DVD. Now there's an idea. I imagine if this is possible then
you could perhaps contain an artists complete discography on one DVD? I'm
assuming a DVD has more than 1 Gig of space, otherwise you'd just place the
discography on a regular CD. Which is fine if you only have a discography of
8 albums or so. But if an artists discography amounts to some 15 albums,
then
a DVD with the space of perhaps 2 Gigs would certtainly be the way to go. If
this is the way you went and you placed all of an artists discography on one
DVD in mp3 format, could you then play that DVD on a stereo slash mp3
player?
Hmmm. Now 14 Cat Stevens mp3 albums on one DVD playing all day on one DVD
disc. Man I'd be teasing Buddha in Katmandoo with a chocolate bull at four
on
a broken morning in room C79 while I waited for the peace train. But is it
really possible to place a 15 album discography on one DVD and play it on an
mp3 player?

Hi all.

I've converted 14 Roy Harper albums to mp3 format and would like to back
these up onto a DVD to save disks. I'm using Easy CD Creator version 6.0
and
would really welcome a step by step at how to achieve this. I've attempted
but cannot manage. I have discovered that the albums amount to 1.37gb. Is
this too large for a DVD? Any advise would be very appreciated folks.
Thanks.

well, i do like my Archos unit even though it's a bit old.

As long as it's accessible then it works for me.

Nick, do you actually have one in hand? I'm starting to hear reports
of folks who are finally receiving their back-orders who are less than
thrilled with the unit, but not because of its ability (or inability)
to make a good recording.
