FS: FA 80-200 mm 2.8

2008-02-22 Thread Carlos Royo
As I really want to sell the lens, I have reduced the asking price
again, although I realize it may not be a good moment with all the
frenzy about the new K20D just now:

FA 80-200 mm. 2.8 LN- (almost like new), with its original Pentax
S120-230 pouch and pouch strap, front and back caps and original
lenshood. I will also include a like new B+W 77 mm. UV filter. It's only
got a small blemish: between the first and second element, it has a very
small hazy spot only visible at a certain angle, which doesn't affect
the quality of the pictures in any way. I took it to my usual repair
shop, and they said it wasn't fungus and it wasn't worth opening the
lens to clean such a small spot. They also said that special tooling was
needed to open the lens in case I wanted to have it cleaned and it
should be sent to an official Pentax service centre. I can send photos
of the lens to prospective buyers. Price: now 1200 euros,INCLUDING
shipping expenses.

I am the original owner of this lens.

If you are interested in it, please send a message to my email box, not
the list.

Thank you for your attention.

Carlos

OT Jalbum water mark help

2008-02-22 Thread David J Brooks
I think, as i will not have time to fuss around on the slower PC, that
i will do the web pages for this weekend on Jalbum.

Experiment have my pages no larger than BBPro, and although there is a
way to download the photo, its in a
not very obvious location. Downloading on the ibook for a full day,
will be around 3-4 minutes, on the PC about 20-25. As i have to leave
for Fargo around 4:30 am on Monday, i don't have time to putz
around.:-). Cotty will be happy as i will try the renames with the mac
renamer. For the time the PC takes to d/l a card, i can have the
better part of the shots renamed, saving a lot of time. Specially
Sunday night, as i would like to get some sleep before i have to get
up and drive for a week.:-)

My question is, i have fiqured out how to add a watermark filter for
my copyright to show up in the centre of the photo, using the

class=Watermark Filter text=copyright d j brooks size=30 closeups
valign=center,

code, which gives a bit of a see through effect. Any one know if i can
increase the opasity of it a bit, or failing that, add a second WM at
1/3 from top and bottom. Is it an offset i need to set somewere.??

Re: My first indoor show since 2004

2008-02-22 Thread David J Brooks
I'll be getting there earlier than the start time, as i want to play a
bit with settings, but i'm just wondering if setting a CWB either with
a white piece of paper or my Expo disk might help matters.
The weekend is supposed to be some what sunny, so i'll have some
brighter diffused light coming in, which should be helpful. Also the
sun is still a bit lower in the sky, so that might brighten thisng up.

Here is a link to the arena.

http://www.shootphoto.ca

Click on proofs and click on the last show at the bottom. I cannot get
individual pages from Mikes site.

That might give you an idea what i/we are up against

I have been asked to do several indoor, no flash horse shows this and
   next weekend.

Since my last venture there, they have removed the sky lights that
   helped in shooting, so now
its just what ever falls in from the side windows.

I don't really like doing these indoor things anymore, but they were
in a bind(left it to late, and i was the only one free:-))
but a sale is a sale.:-)

Interesting how they will turn out. Noisy for sure, but a fellow
equine shooter, who i get a long with quite well, has given me some
   tips for shooting the ring.

If memory serves, i think i used cloudy WB as a start. They have those
big hanging lights that look like mercury vapour ones, but i don
't think they are. Should not come into play anyway, as i will have to
stop before they become a factor, as it will be to dark then anyway.

I 'll find out after the first downloads, how friendly he is i suppose.:-)

FS Friday 1.7AF Pentax telecoverter

2008-02-22 Thread Peter Fairweather
This is in good condition with front and rear caps. Can take Paypal or
UK cheque.

Turns manual lenses into AF so my A*200mm f/2.8 becomes a 340mm f/5

An absolute bargain at £210. UK postage free. At cost to other countries

I might even be tempted to sell the 200mm soon, as at my age manual
focussing is becoming a thing of the past

Please PM me if you are interested

Thats the one i'm using.

I used the settings, then advanced, and typed in the command. I did
not know you could get at it from the skin.

I'll try that.

Thanks

From the JAlbum main page, click on Settings
In the albuum settings window, click on Chameleon
  Click the Filters tab
  Than click the Watermark sub-tab

You can set your watermark variables from there.

BTW, I'm using JAlbum v7.4.1, but I think it works the same for earlier

much.

 http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1036message=26892298

The K20D looks like it will give pretty nice results at ISO 1600. Above
that one would want to experiment with noise reduction, either in-camera
(there are several grades) or in post-production. In time I will see how
the camera performs at ISO 2400.

The files are big: 42.5 mb for RAW images processed to TIFFs. That's why
I had to upload these as jpegs. The images all looked better as TIFFs
 than they do as JPEGs.

All-in-all this is an improvement in the high ISO range, which is a
major reason I wanted the K20D.

As a species, the Grey Wolf probably now has less than a decade.

All the GH and Oestrogen ranchers put in the meat has probably given them the

The K20D looks like it will give pretty nice results at ISO 1600. Above
that one would want to experiment with noise reduction, either in-camera
(there are several grades) or in post-production. In time I will see how
the camera performs at ISO 2400.

The files are big: 42.5 mb for RAW images processed to TIFFs. That's why
I had to upload these as jpegs. The images all looked better as TIFFs
 than they do as JPEGs.

All-in-all this is an improvement in the high ISO range, which is a
major reason I wanted the K20D.

Maybe the Pentax was just a stand-in, much as people used to use a
Polaroid for the lighting test, etc. For the real shot perhaps a
medium-format film body was substituted ...

Slide Scanning at Costco

2008-02-22 Thread Walter Hamler
I believe this was discussed recently.

I took 10 slides to the local Costco. They scanned and put on cd for
2.90, including the cd. The images are about 2100 dpi, avg 3.2 meg
each file. JPEG only unfortunately.

However, the quality was excellent. I thought I was getting ok results
from my HP scanner at 2400 dpi but the prints from these are much
better than I had been able to do from my scans.

Tomorrow I will be selecting from my large archive the slides I want
to archive on cd's. At that price it will be worth paying someone
else. Also, they were fast. Had the job done in 30 minutes!

Thanks Bill. I will ask them
I just made some 8.5 x 11's from one of the scans and the same view
that I had scanned before.Their scan is far superior to mine.

Presuming they are running a Noritsu machine, they can output a couple of
resolutions of jpeg
(~1000x1600 and ~2000x3000), possibly higher if the scanners have gotten
better, and then they
have the option of tiff or jpegs at several compressions. If they are running
Fuji, I would
expect similar possibilities. I don't think Noritsu has gone to 16 bit scans
yet, Fuji may have
though.

Well, may be the first few shots of my daughter that I've taken with my

fighting hard so as not to be mesmerized.

I do remember that I was very impressed with how tall Cotty was when I

Re: First shots with the Voigtlander 58/1.4

2008-02-22 Thread Christine Aguila
Derby: Those shots are really nice. You know, I had never heard of the
Voigtlander lens before subscribing to this list. Now having seen several
pics, I have a strong itch for that lens. Hope you get this post. I don't
think my posts are posting. thought I'd try again.
Cheers, Christine

What a lovely lens. Small and buttery-smooth. The rubberised focus ring
doesn't feel as classy as the SLI metal rings, but that's about my only
 niggle.

I know it isn't considered a macro lens, but it sure performs well close
up. And the bokeh is scrumptious.

Tests of the 40/2 SLII and the Epson RD-1 (WOOHOO) to come.

I know you all can't resist reading test messages :)

I just moved my domain to a shiny new server and it took me a while
to get the email to work. It turned out that the server control
panel didn't restart the mail service after I made a bunch of
configuration changes :/

Now that the migration is complete I've resubscribed :)

Overall the look is very nice.

What lens are you fitting to the Epson RD-1? Has Cotty gotten to
you? ];-)

I understand your feelings, Cotty. I feel the same when I look at
 Canon's offerings.

Oh don't get me wrong - I'm not tempted by those either.

The only two things I could possibly be tempted by are another R-D1, or
 a 36X24 sensor. I wouldn;t have a 5D. I can't afford a 1DsmIII, but
 maybe a 1DsMll used..

Talking about that, I saw in a Spanish web site I usually explore a used
Canon 1 DS (full frame, 11 Mp) a few days ago for what it seemed a good
price (1500 euro). I don't know if it is really a bargain because I
don't know how much they usually cost in the second hand market.
