Nikon ahead as well. That's water under the bridge. In some respects I'm not disappointed that I've waited this long to make the jump. I'm definitely not sorry I skipped the K10D, and got the K20D. I do wish I'd have skipped the K-7, and waited for the K-5. The D800E is a giant leap forward at a somewhat affordable price. $3300 for a 33MP body as compared to it's predecessor, $8000 for a 24MP D3X. >> >> The fact that they don't have a FF DSLR yet has led to my defection, >> and I've been shooting for years. I realize that Pentax doesn't have the resources of Nikon or Canon, but that's to my point. Both Canon and Nikon have had APS-C and FF lines out for many years. It's like Pentax more or less didn't see that advancing sensor technology and lower cost was going to make FF bodies basically within the grasp of many people, or maybe they did and just couldn't compete. They made the 645D however, that still sells for almost $9000 vs. $3300 for a D800E (40MP vs. 33MP). A lot more AF lenses for the D800 as well. >> >> Actually the REST of the world does care. I personally couldn't give a hoot who makes the body that's compatible with my lenses, I lost my loyalty to Pentax some time ago. If the D800E was Pentax mount compatible I would have one now. Re: Best FF Pentax Rumour Story EVER!!!!!!
I think the automotive manufacturer analogy is probably the most appropriate. Some manufacturers like to be in *every* market, from the inexpensive subcompact up to the full-size pickup. But a lot of auto manufacturers make a good living by excluding some markets. If you want a pickup, you have to get one from a manufacturer who makes one. Some companies stick with a core competency until they build a sufficient reputation (and sales) which allows for expansion into other markets. Some continue to restrict themselves to only certain markets. Some of us might remember many years ago when Honda made some serious rust buckets. They were popular cars: Got good gas mileage and good reliability, but had some body integrity issues which they eventually addressed and soon they hit a couple of models out of the park with new designs and developed a reputation for quality. Of course, they still didn't make pickups. Until one day, they did. Now I don't hang out in the automotive forums, and maybe there were some people who (before Honda introduced their Ridgeline pickup) got totally ticked off at Honda for not bringing out a pickup when they wanted to buy one. And they whined and complained and stamped their feet about how they were gonna buy Toyota or Ford from now on and how Honda, as a company, really sucked for not bringing out a pickup. Now in my opinion, those people can spend their money on whatever they want, but if they after switching brands hey decided to hang out in a Honda enthusiast's forum and continue to whine about Honda, I would really start to wonder about them. If someone has decided to abandon Pentax for another brand, for whatever reason, bully for them! But seriously, why would they be hanging out in a PENTAX DISCUSS Mail List after making that decision, unless (perhaps) they have an abusive personality and enjoy poking people with virtual sticks? I speak only for myself here, but if I find someone urinating in my Cheerios, I consider it to be bad form. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

If Pentax doesn't have it, why would one need it? When Pentax does finally come out with it, you're among the first to jump on the bandwagon and sing its praises. I remember you asking why anyone would need more than a 6MP DSLR when I was complaining about the fact that's all Pentax was churning out. The fact that they don't have a FF DSLR yet has led to my defection, and I've been shooting for years. There's a huge selection of lenses, and I'll have double the base resolution of anything Pentax has to offer. Re: No Pentax K mount for new Tamron 70-200/2.8 lens
It does appear that people are happier with the "AT-X Pro" but I haven't figured out what specifications differences there are between PRO and a non-PRO Tokina AT-X. I've seen the SD designation on both the PRO and the Non-Pro. In any event, a lot of people don't seem to get the difference between chromatic aberration of the lens and "purple fringing" which most people agree is caused my the microlenses on the sensor. Thus, I get kind of tired of hearing that this lens causes this or that, without also knowing what sensor you are putting the lens in front of. I also think that some people use a lens in improper conditions. An f2.8 zoom in this range is probably meant for low-light conditions or when you are trying to boost your shutter speed to freeze action. If you are shooting indoors with it, I doubt you get purple fringing. If you are shooting on a cloudy day, I doubt you get purple fringing. If you aim it at bare tree branches on a sunny cloudless day at f2.8 (or there abouts) then I'll bet you get some purple fringing. Mike Johnston calls this "stressing a lens" http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/how-to-stress-a-camera-le.html But it still isn't really (probably) being caused by the lens, but by the bleeding of information at the sensor level. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: OT: High Performance Laptops
Tom, I also think that SSD and RAM would be more important than the fastest CPU. The former would speed up loading photos and improve responsiveness of Photoshop/LR in general. CPU would noticeably help (but still marginally IMHO) when you ask LR to export a bunch of photos or a web-gallery. That's where chrunching power speeds things up. I think I didn't mention why I would consider a desktop - that's the flexibility of upgrades. While the computer life cycle seemingly became shorter, I still think a desktop life cycle can be extended for longer. Also you gain flexibility of choosing the display which is uncoupled from the choice of the computer itself. This arguments are relevant when you are talking about large-size laptops (17"+) that are heaving and only marginally mobile. OT monitoring the problem
Well it is a puzzlement... I'm able to adjust the monitor to 50% and work for hours with nothing amiss, when something hoovers, I decrease the brightness. sometimes it starts flickering wildly even at 20% brightness. I can increase brightness for a short period of time to get closer to what I think others see before it flickers. IT went for a couple of days at about 40% with absolutely no problem, then , suddenly it went nuts again... Is it possible fluxuation in local electrical ooomph (thinking due to what others are using in my ancient building, or electrical work being done recently outside.) is responsible? Anyway, I'm hoping I dont have to replace this for a while... ann -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

OT GESO - Another sunny Saturday afternoon
Here's what happened before and after my last post. http://members.iinet.net.au/~derbyc/12/12_09/12_09_sunnysaturday/index.htm -- der...@iinet.net.au http://members.iinet.net.au/~derbyc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
OT GESO - Protest
Was doing my normal thing in the city, when police and ambulance sirens started down George Street (the main drag). Turns out folks were protesting that wacky youtube movie. Became unpleasant with the dogs and pepper spray. http://members.iinet.net.au/~derbyc/12/12_09/12_09_protest/index.htm The first shot in front of Tiffany's is misleading. The US consulate is on the other side of the road. http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/police-gas-sydney-protesters-20120915-25yrb.html But it wasn't like it's being show in the media. The protesters were relatively contained, if pretty vocal. The violence only started when they were kettled off in Hyde Park and the arrests started. I fully support their right to protest. Just seems out of character for such a lovely spring afternoon. Kudos to the speaker on the megaphone for calming things down with a prayer, and for the NSW police for handling it (I'm guessing this wasn't an authorised protest, because normally the force would be out ahead of time). Some of my other less agitated stuff to follow -- der...@iinet.net.au http://members.iinet.net.au/~derbyc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
GESO Pentax Q and Raynox 250
I don't have a Q to K adapter yet. I do have a raynox 250 and it works perfectly on the Q and standard 01 lens: http://www.repiuk.nl/index.php/blog-mainmenu-97/232-pentax-q-and-raynox-m-250 I think the Q rivals my old K10 and K20. No banding and IQ is more or less equal. The standard 01 lens is very sharp.
