Re: Looking for feedback on a PESO
Makes a very nice abstract as posted. The draw for me is the progression of the foreground rocks leading you into the image, across the top and then exiting in the URH corner with the wet sand pools adjacent to the foreground rocks nicely filling the frame. Edward S. Curtis Exhibit
I went to Muskegon Michigan today to see an exhibit of Edwin S Curtis's North American Indian prints. It was an excellent and massive exhibit, well worth a visit. I doubt that many PDMLer's are nearby, but in case anyone is passing that way... All 723 of Curtis' prints were on display - the full set. The museum believes this is the first time the entire set has been displayed. I wondered how a fairly small museum got this exhibit and where it would go next. As it turns out the Muskegon public library was one of the 200+ subscribers to the original project and received the books and photogravure prints as they were published. A docent told me that at this time there were no plans to travel the show. My only complaint - 723 prints plus supplemental displays is a bit overwhelming - I plan another visit or two over the summer. Here are a few cell phone snaps of some of the exhibits: http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/index.php/edward-s-curtis-exhibit?blog=9 And the museums webpage: http://www.muskegonartmuseum.org/exhibition/edward-s-curtis-north-american-indian/ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: EXIF Mystery
Thanks, Igor. The contacts on the lens look fine. Since this problem only happens with this lens and appears on multiple bodies, it clearly is the lens that is at issue. Since flicker shows a lot of exif info I compared what it shows for shots with my lens verses Larry's copy of the same lens. His data shows lens name and lens model, data which is missing from images I've taken. His also shows subject to lens distance, which also is missing from mine. The only piece of lens specific data I could find in my images was the Lens ID code, which appears to be correct (at least the same as others.) I also uploaded a JPG to flickr - it showed no lens data as well, not even the lens id code. I still have the very first image I took with this lens and it is the same - no lens data. Looks like its time for a warranty repair. At least I have the Tamron 28-75 as a fall back. Mark Igor PDML-StR wrote: Hi Mark, Here are my thoughts (but you might have already had all of them yourself..) Your photoshop could have a problem if it's RAW module version is older than the lens. But since Flickr doesn't show that name either, I'd assume it is not there. (A slim chance if that PS strips it out ... So, a good test would be to take one shot in JPEG, and upload it as is, without opening in PS, LR, or whatever.) So, the culprit is likely to be in the lens hardware. AFAIK, the lens ID is encoded by an electric contact on the lens. Unfortunately, upon a quick search, I was unable to find which of the contacts resonsible for it. You can just check that contact (or all of them). If it has some grease or goo on it, that might prevent it from working. I would try using a q-tip lightly soaked (not dripping) in isopropanol or methanol or ethanol (I am usually using "rubbing alcohol" - that's 70% or so isopropanol - it is also good for removing pencil marks from the wall paint if used carefully -- it can also remove the paint). One more thought: I've never worked on those contacts, but I've successfully used pencil erasers on the hot-shoe contacts. with the lens, however, I'd be concerned not to get any rubber crumbles onto the back elements and ultimately inside camera/on the sensor. Good luck! Igor Mark C Mon, 10 Jul 2017 07:36:48 -0700 wrote: I just noticed that my DFA 28-105 f3.5-5.6 does not show up in EXIF data. Re: EXIF Mystery
In the Pentax system, the lens doesn't report a readable name to the camera, but reports a couple of unique numbers that are recorded in the EXIF. Your software then has to be updated to map those numbers to the user-readable name of the lens. According to this page: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/supported-lenses.html#Pentax support for the 28-105 was added in Camera Raw 9.6. Do you have at least that version? Actually, I'll answer my own question... I used Jeffrey's EXIF viewer: http://exif.regex.info/exif.cgi on your (lovely) recent photo: http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/media/blogs/calarti/2017/17-07-09/mccp8125_tu2.jpg?mtime=1499635572 and the EXIF dump says you're using Camera Raw 9.1.1, so that's why it can't decode the lens code. If you look at Jeffrey's EXIF dump, near the top, you'll see "Lens: 8 61". Those are the two numbers that identify the lens. So Jeffrey's library (exiftool or something?) doesn't properly decode it either, but the field is being populated by the lens and camera--it doesn't look like a malfunction to me. Damn - forgot to hit Reply List...hope this gets it back on track. I think it was better with the water included. Re: EXIF Mystery
Hi Mark, Here are my thoughts (but you might have already had all of them yourself..) Your photoshop could have a problem if it's RAW module version is older than the lens. I noticed this because uploads to flickr with this lens also do not show any lens data. I tried a couple other EXIF viewers with the same result. Both cameras correctly record lens data for other lenses. There are images on flickr that show this lens in the EXIF data (e.g. Larry's photostream)... It appears that my specific copy though is not producing EXIF info. I'm wondering if this is something to be concerned about WRT my copy of this lens?
