FS : Two Pentax MX, Pentax MX screens, Pentax Me Super+winder
Hi fellas, I'm also putting some stuff FS. 1) Chrome Pentax MX, first - series, #4361889, in close to 'mint' cosmetics : very slight scraping on the corner of rewind lever being the only visible mark on the camera. mechanically perfect, been CLA'd last year, seals new, ZERO brassing, leather as-new, inside as-new, curtain included. equipped with BOTH covers on the bottom plate, synch cover, body cap, and pentax strap. New and very clear SC-1 focusing screen. Asking 160$. 2) Another Pentax MX, second series, #9256258, ex++ cosmetics (a tripod mark on the base, very slight brassing on the hinge of the back door, and thats IT), has been adjusted two years ago, but meter consistent with the first MX, and mechanically 100% as far as I can see (had it for three years now).Seals are fine, inside is very clean, curtain is perfect, also had both caps at the bottom, original synch cover, strap, and body cap. New, brilliant focusing screen (SC-1).This one comes with the MX original manual too. Asking 140$. 3) Two never used and quite hard to find MX viewfinders, in the original boxes with tweezers. SC-1, SB-1. asking 50$ for the two, or 25$ for each. If you want both those and one of the cameras, i'll take 10$ less off the camera price. 4) Chrome Pentax Me super with Me II winder. Winder is like new, and works perfect. The camera is in perfect mechanical condition, meter is right on and the shutter is wonderfully quiet. ex cosmetics - i've used it a lot over the last years - has some (slight) marks on the bottom plate, and some brassing on the door edges. no dings, or scratching though. leather is intact, viewfinder is clear and focusing screen is dazzling. The inside is very clean, seals have been replaced. It has both covers at the bottom, a pentax strap and a body cap. Original user manuals for camera and winder. Asking 120$. Payment can be done in either money order or personal cheque to my friend in CT, or to me in Tel-Aviv. If in CT, it'll cost something like 5$ for uninsured shipping per parcel. from here, more like 10$ for airmail shipping. Anyone interested, thanks for contacting me offlist. Pentax MX etc FS list -CORRECTION
Just held the two MX screens to the light with the tweezers and I see that, although they were never used, there is a bright spot on the SC-1 screen. Its not very noticeable, but its there, so I am NOT selling it separately, but throwing both screens, including the perfect SB-1, in with the first MX #4361889. same price - 160$, for the lot - camera and two extra screens. Re: 50mm 1.2
i've been meaning to ask about that. half my K lenses dont have the 'mm' at the end : my SMC -K 24/3.5, 35/2, 50/1.4, and 85/1.8 dont have 'mm' written. my SMC-K 17/4, 18/3.5, 50/1.2 and 135/2.5 have an 'mm' engraved. does that mean that each of those is first version, and there's second-version siblings around? Steve wrote: I know the Supra is a very saturated film, but the 50 1.2 is very nice with color, they just pop. Steve Larson so true, this lens is like a cross between the three-dimentional SMC-A 50mm f1.4 and the texture of the SMC-K 85mm f1.8. mazeltof for the 'new' lens! Re: Intro and Question - 50mm lens
jumping in at the last moment! there's no doubt in my mind that until you actually *have* a 50/1.2 (K), it seems like the most silly investment in the world (for all the reasons all of you quoted). BUT once you have one, there's no other 50mm pentax which compares to it. I should know, because i began with an F 50/1.7 which i dumped for an M 50/1.7, which i dumped for an A 50/1.4, which i dumped for a K 50/1.4, which i am now looking to dump (anyone interested? its close to 'new', and comes attached to a nice chrome ME super with a mint winder , manuals and nikoon hood!) because i got a wonderful K 50/1.2. My sample has got some dust speckles in the glass, which have zero impact on the optical performance. and the pictures this lens takes are simply wonderful. great bokeh, of course. but also warm colours and exquisite texture. and supreme sharpness at f8 and above. and it FEELS so much better than the K 50/1.4, which i thought felt great. it focuses smoother. and then, obviously, its the ultimate lens for lowlight morning and dusk occasions. i got absolutely superb landscapes with this lens. okay, time to end my chant of praise for the 50/1.2 and hop along :-) just had to chip in! november PUG
well to each his criterias for appraisal.. mine's pragmatic right now : which PUG pic becomes my wallpaper. so far i've had Sid Barras' marvelous tree constantly resurface and take the place of anything other, and today its become Steve Knobbe's 'mountain bike', which is simply wonderful on my portable's screen... (almost) makes me wanna get to work.. (Robert Poe's 'wonderful cat porch' is standing-by ..) Alexey 's 'Pursuer' also is smashing.. but too scary on my screen! its gotta be said that black-and-white pics looks MUCH better on a computer's screen. i know.. irrelevant appraisal.. just wanted to say how i enjoyed the PUG (and especially those three!) :-) Daphne (considering black-and-white photography again. November PUG bis
okay, now that my wallpaper pics have been adressed.. lets see which november PUG pics found their way into my saved pictures folder... :-)) so what so we have here? an absolutely marvelous pic entitled 'monarto meer cats' by Darren Richter. what ARE those cute creatures standing to attention? i couldnt believe it! LOL then there's a great Ian Flemming pic of black movie camera next to a white sugar (flour?) jar then comes Daniel Loader's funny bicycle poppoed on tree which yields a very pleasing perspective! and of course Philippe Trottier's snow-laced 'bunker', which brings to mind lotsof nice associations :-)) the PUG is a real savior after one's hard disk has been destroyed by a virus, all my pictures (and files!) gone, and not being able to reinstall the drivers for my scanner. thanks ye all!!! new toys
i'm now the proud owner of two 'new' used K-SMC lenses which are absolutely SUPERB performers : the 50/1.2-K yielded astounding pics in all weathers, WY better than my 50/1.4-K and in spite of some dust inside which almost made me return the lens untried (lucky i didnt!) and the 135/2.5-K, thats simply outstanding. it captured tiny squirrels racing at the far end of the garden, and superb facades... i'm gonna try it on my helicoid tube see how it fares with close-ups. gear ratio
while i'm on the topic... i need you guy's advice here, my pentax slr outfit has once again expanded and i'm thinking of unloading a body and (perhaps) a lens - got three mx's, one mint black and two ex+ chrome, all in perfect working order, and one ex+ Me Super w/mint winder attached to it, also in perfect working order. lenses i got eight, and the possibly redundent one might now be the 50/1.4-SMC K? or should i keep it alongside the 50/1.2-K for shooting color and black at the same focal length?). Aint four bodies too much? should i let go of one of the chrome MX's, and keep the Mesuper+winder for special occasions, or sell the Mesup and keep identical Mx's as backup? what say ye? Re: Terrorist reasoning.
i must say i fail to see the relation btw ancient rome (prior to terrorism) and israel's way of dealing with palestinian terrorism, but perhaps my historical notions arent up to date? of course its only peace talks, not sealing off cities that can eradicate terrorism in the long run. fine, how does that solve the immediate reality of bombing innocent citizens in israeli cities? is there 'innocent until proven guilty' on our side? and how can one even speak of innocent and guilty when one suicide attack brings on retaliation from the other side, leading to a new suicide attack, and on and on? Also i wouldnt confuse israel-palestine situation with muslim-US paradigm. after all, Afganistan doesnt need to be granted independence by the States. what i meant in my 'original post' was simply that the 'surgical removal' of palestinian terrorists, although disturbing in itself, becomes understandable after one sees the horrific results of today's mastermind terrorists. Would anyone condone in retrospect the surgical assasination of today's hijackers, had one known about them in advance? Daphne - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: World Trade Center-GONE
i believe everyone, and mine included, thought's are with US people today.. unfortunately what happened isnt completely without connexion with middle east realities - and doesnt need anyone to 'pull it' towards supposedly other issues. human tragedy happens here on a daily basis, and one shudders to think that the apocalyptic dimensions of today's US tragedy might be the prelude to a follow-up elsewhere. this doesnt diminish in the least my concern with US people, and i wish i could be there to offer concrete help. I spent all day glued to the television screen and on the phone trying in vain to reach friends in NY, and i've just received word that two of them are ok, to my immense relief.. Re: pocketeable cameras I've had
hey Paul, whatcha complaining about? I was just providing the counterpart to your nutty megashopper posting :-))) right, as if that was the whole story! sure I read all the possible postings before ... taking step two = learning from real life experience. actually I made my mind up instantly on each instance... after purchasing the camera, of course! LOL so, lets see. the oly's I always liked for their compactness and sleek design, but the lenses weren't as sharp as I'd have wished them to be. the best of the lot was the first -series XA, but there the rangefinder focusing was tiresome, not to mention that it was prone to all sorts of mechanical probs. still I stuck to them, not knowing any better, until I met my first rollei 35 (never seen a manual camera until then) and fell in love with the feel, mechanics, looks and, of course, optical performance. out went the oly's, in came the rollei 35 series- tried out the 35 S, SE, T, TE and eventually decided to keep the first-series one (see why in previous OT thread..). then I thought I'd try out an AF pocket, thinking that it;d be nice to not guessfocus on those critical, once-in-a-lifetime occasions.. I thought a high-end camera would perhaps yield pics as good as my rollei 35. so I tried the nikon 35 Ti, which was tack sharp but too 'clinical' to my taste, also it had considerabe shutter lag, was very thick, and overall much less nice to handle than the rollei. out it went, in came the ricoh gr-1 - much nicer, much thinner, great optics but it had a 28mm lens - too wide for my needs at the time, also there was the inevitable shutter lag.. I traded it for a black contax T which was optically on par with the rollei, but less nice as far as handling went (also it wasnt , of course, AF - had the same rangefinder window as the oly xa, and I really hate using it), sold that, got the rollei AF (the slim, expensiver cousin to ricoh 10 : has two lenses, 24mm and 30mm), which was probably the best AF pocket I ever had - combined sharpness, contrast, and true pocketeability *but* the 24mm lens had severe vignetting, and the 30mm, although excellent, is still a bit wide for my taste, so out that went too. the last af pockets I tried was the yashica T5- great optics, but rather thick and the usual shutter lag.. also the famous top finder was so small, and the regular viewfinder so narrow, it took much of the enjoyment outa using them. SO, I ended up renouncing the AF idea, and teaching myself to guessfocus more accurately! and get another Minox , which I heartily recommend : marvelously quiet shutter, manual everything! great lens... its coming with me everywhere. hmm.. why do I get the feeling that my little narrative wont satisfy you one bit? :- as for Shel, he knows my advice! Re: Vs: Rollei 35,
Hi Raimo! I agree about the lack of diff. in optical quality, but not about the german all-metal being the same as the later, much lighter, models built in Singapur. It suffices to hold the two bodies in hand to feel the difference in weight, and build quality. the later SE and TE models are both singapur-made, plasticky and light as compared to the original german series. Of course they also got a more accurate metering system (although I prefer the old needle to them, its more fun to use and the camera doesnt have the ugly plastic compartment on top for the new batts).. Re: Vs: Vs: Rollei 35,
you got me here - I never thought to actually scale weigh any of my rolleis! LOL. But they did get lighter by the year of production.. My rollei has chrome indeed (not alu), but its hardly a prototype (I should be so lucky!) - all the same, its substantially heavy than the two other Rolleis (also made in Germany) of later production I had, and of every other rollei 35 I handled. except for another first-series model which was even nicer - the finish was satin-like, but I sold it :-((. That one was also heavyish. If memory serves, the originally metalic parts that were replaced by synthetic materials included the plastic spool, the black material on the crank, gear trains.. probably lots of other parts as well... I should check it out in the Rollei 35 book I used to have, it should still be *somewhere* around. My dream Rollei 35 is, of course, the Rollei 35 metric. Never saw one on ebay - just an ad in Atlanta two years ago,. and seller asked for 2000$... Daphne - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Mercury Cell for older camera
Hi Paul! thanks for the Minox update - I used to have an EL which i liked, and kinda regret having sold it. my rollei 35 cant be beat for optical quality, but it isnt exactly pocketable! or silent, and I didnt enjoy using my motorised (new!) Yashica T5, so I just traded it for a clean Minox GT. (hope the other guy's honest... he's got no previous record at photo.net and I'm shipping him my Yashica T5 first!). love that needle too :-) as for exposure, it'll be even worse for the lack of a genuine varta px27- I'll be using the replacement mercuries (6 volt insteadof 5.4 and hope for the best). no german PDL member has offered to help me get the vartas yet sob actually I'll probably resell the third pocket camera which I just won on ebay (couldnt resist...) and which i really, really dont need.. the ziess ikon contessa S-310. its a little beaut, but heavyish, no rangefinder... kinda like my rollei! well since the 40$ refund is on its way and this was my morning's though exactly (:-))) I guess I'll shlep the 50/1.4 downtown to the tech lab. also they might be able to fix the focus which oooks to be a bit off Daphne - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: back from techlab w/50/1.4-K. ha!
well, until you compare the print to the identical one taken with the 50/1.4-A, all looks good. once you do compare them you see that the pics taken with the K lens are slightly less sharp and constrasty... also the dept of field seems to be different (at the same aperture, the pics taken with the A lens are in focus in a much larger section than the one taken with the K lens, where only a tiny spot in in focus, oddly enough.) of course some differences might result from the A coatings being better, and from the easier-to-focus feel of the A... what are the odds of NONE of those differences being caused by the dusty element in the K lens? Re: back from techlab w/50/1.4-K. ha!
no kidding! hmm, he said I could return it initially, now he's offering to send me a better one when he finds it, and in the meantime sell this one and split the $$... or get 40$ refund and keep the lens. He sounds like a good guy really, so now I'm thinking should I keep the lens for grabshots at the beach? I wouldnt need to worry bout dust getting in, thats forsure :-) But... although the idea of a cheapo 50mm sounds ok, I'd STILL want to get a good one, so.. probably not such a good idea after all? unless I keep the 50/1.4-A after all... but I wanna have an all-K lens kit... dilemnas dilemnas! Re: 50mm f1.4-K versus 50mm f1.4-A
well thats reassuring as far as item description goes! I bought this from him off-ebay, so I was a bit concerned about his rating. He shipped it to me immeditaly too, without waiting for payment to cash, which I taught was a good sign :-) also he offered full refun in case of insatisfaction. Re: 50mm f1.4-K versus 50mm f1.4-A
somehow I suspected as much - because all the shots taken with my 50/1.4-A stand out from the ones I took with my (different focal length) K-series primes in precisely that aspect - color punch, not sharpness. It is very sharp, but thats not the first thing you notice - in fact, I often found that the pics looked undistinguishable from ones taken with my (long since sold) AF 50mm! Thats why I wanted to try out a K-series lens of the same focal length. Also all my other lenses are now K-series, and the single remaining "A" lens looks like a (teeny) intruder :-))) From your description it looks like I'm gonna have a problem parting with the A though.. perhaps I will keep the two. Besides, I got this smashing collection of neat accessories for the 'A' lens.. beautiful silver-rimmed uv filters.. gorgeous spotless metal hood in lovely pentax leather case... case for the lens... h.... here's another accessory FS - its the scarce screw-in metal Takumar hood for 20/4.5 lens, the one that has the detachable ring and hood and allows to fix a 77mm filter in-between. thanks for the kind comment on my steel sculpture little pic, actually its not the sky... its the wall that serves as background for the statue (the pic was taken in the sculptures parc, and the wall was lit by sunlight which is how come it looks so white), pic wasnt touched up. In reality the sculpture is, of course an abstract - a circle within a circle, the 'face' is teeny in comparison to the huge diameter of the external circle. NO Parking and WOOPS get my all-favorite vote... No parking is just my kinda pic - indeed it says it all and nullifies the need for any commentary :-) woops I admit my liking for to be contextual... it clicks in with the frozen camera episode, and hey this one pic is amazing of course that hold true of a thumbnail view once you have close looks, its *way* harder to pick out favorites - so many wonderful pictures. I was especially taken with Collin's stylised Gulls on the pier, which has a magical quality to it, by Tom's beautiful candid shot of boy and dog on the porch, and by Versal's gripping 'hand' which makes you wonder why you need a macro!
