FS Friday: K-5 and DA-L 55-300

2024-03-15 Thread Mark Roberts
In light of my recent gear acquisition posts, it should come as no
surprise that I'm selling the gear I'm replacing. They're both on eBay
(where I have photos posted), but I'll knock 10 bucks off the price
for anyone who wants to buy direct.

fs friday Asahi Pentax flash AF280T $10

2021-05-07 Thread ann sanfedele

$10.00 plus shipping!

This  Asahi Pentax flash  AF280T  -  tested today on my K-5.  It works!
Would love it if one of you want it so I could save myself taking lots
of photos of it and
all the other stuff ebay is asking of us these days.  Will send by
priority mail in USA for whatever it actually costs - the thing itself
without batteries in it weighs 11 oz..
with good packing that gets it up between 1 and 2 lbs.. You can
calculate shipping from my zip (10003) to yours.

For the fussy - there are a couple of smudges on it so if you need
everything super cosmetically nice dont buy it :-)

FS Friday: K-1ii

2021-04-23 Thread Stanley Halpin
Just a heads-up, details to be worked out still. But I got that lovely message
from Pentax/Ricoh today concerning the K-3iii I ordered the other day,
misspellings and all: "You'r order has shipped. Please see the tracking
information below:”…

Therefore I will be selling one of my two K-1ii bodies (both purchased as K-1,
upgraded to K-1ii by Precision). One has maybe 15,500 shutter activations, the
other 22,750 as well as I can tell. Over the weekend I will be gathering up
bits and pieces like the original eyecup, strap, box, etc and I’ll try to do a
few product shots to see if there is any appreciable cosmetic difference
between the two.

Meanwhile, if anybody has a burning desire for a very fine “full frame” K-1ii,
let me know…

Note that my uncertainty about the shutter counts stems in part from the K-1 to
K-1ii upgrade. Both bodies have right around 7,750 shutter activations since
the upgrade, according to the online exif snoopers. I’ve been doing a bit of
detective work in Lightroom to try to determine where they were before they
were sent in to Precision, and I think my numbers are fairly close.

LOL! I wish I could compare myself to Capa. :)

If I could separate the focusing screen from the camera I would, but I
haven't been able to find the original screen. That, or I didn't figure out
how to reinstall it. Screens from the K5 and K10D seem just a bit smaller,
and yet I somehow cannot close the little tray with one of those in. So
it's the only screen I have for this camera.

Price went down today btw, although ebay seems saturated with KPs from
Japan at marginally lower prices right now.

FS Friday: Pentax MX body

2019-11-08 Thread Mark Roberts
I've finally realized that I'm probably not going to use this little
gem any more so I'm offering it up to the PDML before it goes to eBay.

It's in very nice condition indeed. A few scuffs but all very minor.
All shutter speeds work (though it hasn't been serviced in a while so
I won't guarantee accuracy) and the meter works (even the batteries
are still good).

$100.00 plus shipping for the camera body

I also have 3 extra focusing screens!
S1 - Matte with circle and millimeter scale
SB-21 - Matte with split-image center
SG-20 - Matte with circle and grid

The SB-21 and SG-20 are for the LX. They'll fit the MX perfectly but
you'll have to either get the meter recalibrated (who does that?) or
just overexpose by 1/2 stop.
All the screens are in the original box and case and come with their
own set of focusing screen tweezers.
$30.00 each for the screens.

Photos to follow.

FS Friday: PDML Photo Annual back issue sale

Trying to clear out space here and I've just discovered a stash of
PDML Photo Annuals I'd like to get rid of. I have every year going
back to 2008/9 - all ten editions. They're all softcover, so you don't
get the snarky "dust jacket inner flap tirade" ;-) but they're all new
and in perfect condition.

$20.00 each or 3 for $50.00 - mix 'n match or get three of your
favorite. Plus shipping. (In the U.S. they can go "medial mail" class,
which is very inexpensive.)

The printing of the calendars and books on create photo calendars is

2019-01-26 Thread Boris Liberman
Ok,

I kind of let the K-5 sit on the shelf a bit longer since the last FS post.

Any takers for USD 250? This includes shipping but you get to pay PayPal
fees.

To remind you - it comes with original battery grip, extra original
battery, magnifying eye piece and a remote release (I think I have both
wired and wireless - I will need to check).

Boris,

I think you want too much for the K-5. KEH.com has several in Ex or
better condition selling for less than $290.00 U.S. and they're giving

a

1 year guarantee, and free shipping, something I wouldn't expect you

to

do.

It's a sad fact that no matter how capable the camera or what condition
it's in, and how well built it is, in the new digital age, after a very
few years it's monetary value approaches zero.

In my humble opinion the capabilities of a K-5, is probably more than
most people really need to make outstanding photographs, and even $300.
is a steal for those capabilities, but the perception is that time has
passed it by.

Heck, just yesterday, I received a replacement K-5 II that I bought

from

KEH.com that cost me less than $270 including sales tax, that looks

like

it's brand new, and, if I can believe the file numbers exiftool gives
me, has slightly less than 2900 shutter actuations. The 1 year
guarantee alone is probably worth 25% of the purchase price.

Bottom line I just don't think you're going to be able to get that much
for yours. Even with the grip, and the other items. I wish that

weren't

true but that's just the way the world works these days.

Slightly more than 20,000 shutter actuations.

How USD 300 sounds, shipping is on me, we split PayPal fees?

Hi Boris,

If you get more than one offer, send the second place buyer to me. I have one
as well, complete with battery grip an all the other stuff in a box.

Good luck.

Re: FS Friday

2018-12-14 Thread Ken Waller

Boris, I agree with Peter as to your asking price, at least here in the U S of
A.

I recently sold to KEH, a pristine K-10 with under 3 K shutter actuations, in
the original box with all that came in the box and no signs of usage at all -
they gave me $61 USD ! I had previously advertised it at $125 and got no
response. I only sold it to them cause I have another backup camera and wanted
to clear some things out.

I hear you, Peter.

Sad, but you're probably right.

Ok, wise and venerable people of PDML - make me a fair* offer. I don't use

If you think you would have use for it - please let me know your offer off

Re: FS Friday

2018-12-14 Thread P. J. Alling

Boris,

I think you want too much for the K-5.  KEH.com has several in Ex or
better condition selling for less than $290.00 U.S. and they're giving a
1 year guarantee,  and free shipping, something I wouldn't expect you to

Heck, just yesterday, I received a replacement K-5 II that I bought from
KEH.com that cost me less than $270 including sales tax, that looks like
it's brand new, and, if I can believe the file numbers exiftool gives
me, has slightly less than 2900 shutter actuations.   The 1 year
guarantee alone is probably worth 25% of the purchase price.

Bottom line I just don't think you're going to be able to get that much
for yours.  Even with the grip, and the other items. I wish that weren't
true but that's just the way the world works these days.

plus $2.00 shipping from me.  I cant stop the site from

showing the hard cover first.

Semi-FS Friday

2018-11-09 Thread John
I stopped by my local Pentax dealer here in Raleigh on Wednesday. He mentioned
he'd just taken a set of Pentax kit in trade and asked if I wanted any of it.

I want all of it, but I can't afford to buy any of it right now IYKWIM.

Anyway, I offered to mention what he has to y'all here in case any of you are
looking for anything. It was all "like new" in the box, with even the little
bubble-wrap pouches and all the literature intact.

So, without further ado ... here's the list

K1 silver edition w/grip1299.00
15-30 F2.8 949.00
28-105 F3.5-5.6 350.00
70-200 F2.8 1100.00
300F4 ED 699.00
360 FGZ 150.00

That's US dollars & I don't know if he has to charge sales tax for out of state
purchasers.

If anyone is interested: https://www.southeasterncamera.com/

Actually, the only thing on that list I don't already have is the 28-105.

FS Friday FA50/1.4

2018-08-09 Thread Bill

Ok, it's a little early, but I am assured that it is Friday somewhere.
Anyway, I am hoping to sell my FA50/1.4 It's in very good condition, the
glass is clear, with no scratches, and everything works as it should.
There are some fine scratches on the body, but nothing that is causing
any performance issues.

It's on sale in Canada at The Camera Store in Calgary for 329.00, which
is 70 bucks off their regular price. Consequently, I am asking a mere
Can$175.00 for this lens. For American buyers, that is about USD$135.00.

I am the original owner of the lens, though it spent some time in Israel
with Boris Liberman. I bought it back from him when he sold off his
Pentax gear back in 2016.

This depends on the specific scanner and model. VueScan provides a list of all
the scanners supported and what the requirements of use for each one is. MOST

I put such a card in my old (really old) Windows PC. Worked really well. I
tried Vuescan on my Mac but just couldn't get the colour rendering right. I
like the old Minolta software anyway.

I already have 35mm covered with a Nikon CoolscanIV for ED.

I would like to have one of the Nikon scanners that handles medium
format if I could find one for a reasonable price.

Re: FS Friday: Minolta film scanner

2018-01-20 Thread P. J. Alling
If I remember correctly, with a USB scanner Viewscan required that you
have a working USB driver for the scanner.  That's usually why the
"native" scanning software fails.

The driver model was changed by Microsoft several times from Win2000, to
WinXP and Vista and support for the old model was completely dropped
with the release of Windows 8.  Sometimes you can get older drivers to
work with Windows 7, in compatibility mode, though that's not guaranteed
as those compatibility modes are sometimes not all that compatible.

IIRC Minolta got out of the scanner business before Apple went to Intel.

As it's USB you should be able to use it with an old OS in a virtual machine on
modern hardware. My experience with USB devices on Virtualbox is that it was a
bit fiddly to set up but it worked very well.

Your other choices are Vuescan, or an old machine (PPC Mac or Windows). I had
to keep old hardware as my scanner is Firewire.

Also, for Mac users, you can still get Firewire connectivity (using Thunderbold
ports)
either as a seperate conversion cable or with Firewire ports on external
displays
that include a Thunderbolt hub.

I plan to use my Nikon 8000-ED using such a display, with Vuescan ...

There's also the option of SilverFast for software, though I don't
recommend it. The quality is excellent (my old Kodak RFS3600 scanner
came with SilverFast) but it's pricier than VueScan and - get this -
each version of SilverFast works with only one scanner: If/when you
get a new scanner you have to purchase the software again! No thanks,
SilverFast.

To use a FireWire scanner on my up-to-date computer hardware I just
bought an IEE1394 card and plugged it in. Good to go!

2017-12-15 Thread ann sanfedele
I have a couple of calendars of the larger size from my
createphotocalendars page if anyone is interested in getting them
directly from me.. proof copies...
They do a fine printing job -- these are 11 x 14 and normally sell for
$23.  On has a slight flaw (call it uncorrected proof)
that mainly has to to with the tiny captions (will elaborate if you
care)  ... the photos look good..

It is the UP the ALCAN calendar originally published a couple of years ago..

The other is THE BUS STOPS HERE , also 11 x 14   it is in perfect shape...

If you would like either of these , you can have'em for $15 each plus
shipping ..

email me off list.

The preview procedure on the site has been improved , btw...
Here is the link to the store  - where there are now 2 books and 10
calendars.

https://www.createphotocalendars.com/Shop/annsanfedelecalendarsandbooks.

Naturally, it's fine to buy any of these from the store.. :-)
Some of them are still in the cafepress marketplace too.. - they are
phasing out wall calendars but
selling them while the stock holds out and I've had serveral sales there
in the last few days..

thanks for looking at least..

FS Friday -- My Paris book, of course!

2017-10-13 Thread ann sanfedele
Naturally, I hope there are more of you planning on getting it than
those that have already.. a few more October sales

and I'll get royalties in November...

this is where you get the book,  or any of the 4 calendars that I moved
over to this site from cafepress.
Sadly (or not) the people who bought it so far have books with 4 typos
in captions... the most grievous of which was I typed PARILS instead of
PARIS in a couple of places, but the cursive is so fancy most will not
notice .. just so ya know if you are anal about such things.

here is the link :
https://www.createphotocalendars.com/Shop/annsanfedelecalendarsandbooks

Of course I would love everyone to have a copy of the book but I make
just as much in royalties if you

bought a calendar as the book -- I tried to keep the mark-ups low.

Annoyingly, the site insists on my making a logo... I plan on changing
it and making it smaller.  If you loved it, though, you might enjoy the
poster I took it from, which is a rather tough geography puzzle, and is
here:

http://www.cafepress.com/annsanstuff/9422283

thanks for looking, at least, if not buying...

The trouble with the preview of the book is that it doesn't show facing
pages  -  You can see all the photos
in the book here on my smugmug page... the "evian" photo stands
alone, after that the "thumbnails" in the collage

format  can be read as facing pages ..

here is that link:

2017-09-29 Thread ann sanfedele
have another look even if you aren't buying the book... there are three
calendars too and I don't make anymore money

from the books than the calendars.
IF you have already decided to buy but just ahvent done it yet I'd be
most grateful if you can do it today or tomorrow.. so it will come to me
in my royalty check of  October 1.

The "store" for the Book and 4 calendars is here:
https://www.createphotocalendars.com/Shop/annsanfedelecalendarsandbooks

There are still calendars of mine on cafepress, but they are phasing
them out so I started moving them over
to the other site.. and I like it - although I'm not leaving cafe press
- there are designs and calendars of mine
all over the cafepress market place.. wish that translated in to the big

the chrome body looks like maybe a Nikon FM - $99 to $150
Nikon N90 - $50 if he's lucky
Nikon Nikkor 80-200mm F/2.8 D - $668.00 (Bgn) to $822.00 (Ex)
Nikkor 50mm F/1.4 Non AI Manual Focus Lens - $60 to $80
Can't tell what the flash is - could be $25 to $250 depending on the model.

Cool! Those cameras have interchangeable sensors.

:-)

It doesn't show the model number of the manual focus camera, or what the
prime is. I'm assuming 50mm but value would depend on whether it's 1.8
or 1.4.

I've got a drawer full of Nikon film gear I need to convert into what

My apologies for having to send this on a Saturday. I had emailed it on Friday,
but apparently to the wrong address.
I'm selling my copy of Gerjan's book that I bought from him on PDML back in the
day. People are asking really insane prices for them online ($400 to $600 US
isn't uncommon). My copy has some dust jacket damage, so I'm starting it off at
the moderately insane price of $199 CAN. For those of you in the US, that's
pretty much Monopoly money these days. The auction ends tomorrow, and the link

I'm also selling (not auctioning) a couple other books and a bunch of
brochures, literature, and odd items here:

Thanks, PJ - that's what I'll have to do. I'd call the lens condition
"Good" (because of the small nick on the front element). Wish me luck -
haven't attempted to sell anything on EBay in... probably 10 years at least!

I was thinking you'd do a quick price search and then have a good handle
on making a private sale. The lens sells used at KEH for $600 to $700
in VG to EX maybe $550 in Bargain condition. I don't expect a retailer

put it on ebay. It's not as convenient as it used to be but that's
where you'll get the best price.

I agree they were really under-valuing that lens.

I just did a quick eBay search and the cheapest da* 16-50 on offer was
$450 US. The rest averaged around $600 and many were much higher than
that.

Re: Long time no see, and ramping up for an FS Friday (K5 and 16-50 for starters)

2017-01-08 Thread John Francis

I'm not so sure.

The 16-50 was the first lens that was plagued by the SDM problem,
and so there are an awful lot of posts that complain about it.

I'd think twice about buying another SDM lens from that generation
even though so far (touch wood) my three have shown no problems.

Ebay can be your friend. That's what they'll do and get quite the nice
profit with those offers.

Re: Long time no see, and ramping up for an FS Friday (K5 and 16-50 for starters)

2017-01-08 Thread John

Not surprising. Your expectation is based on what you paid for it new.

They're thinking about how much they can sell it for, and they're not
going to offer more than half that (or less), because they have to cover
their overhead and still make a profit.

K5 with a kit lens *might* bring in $450 on eBay ... if you have the
original box & all the goodies.

Wow, that’s a great kit you describe below. Yes, even the video markets it as
a great street camera—much less intimidating—or maybe just more discreet—than
the all black DSLR.

Sure wish I had some extra money, but can’t afford to buy right now, got to
save—the bloody Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!

Hi Christine,

Yes had a play around one day and some of the filters (software filters
that is) are a bit garish - great fun when drinking wine at a party ;-)

But TBH they are not my cuppa tea.

I only shoot jpegs, so the camera suits my style completely (although it
is very competent in raw). With a turn of the knob on the front I can go
from shooting mono to colour in an instant. I like that because when I
shoot in B and W I like to think in B and W! I hate shooting everything
in colour and then deciding later if it works in mono instead/as well.

Accordingly, there are 4 'custom set' settings on the main dial on the
top plate. I keep these as ISO settings exclusively, so I know that C1
is ISO 200, C2 is ISO 400, C3 is ISO 800 and C4 is ISO 3200 (don't
forget, I'm shooting with manual focus, manual aperture lenses all the time).

There are several more little dials and buttons that I have nothing
assigned to. I like it simple and sweet, concentrate on the pics!

I'd love to get some more Voigtlander lenses but my god they are pricey.

The 10.5mm f/0.95 looks amazing:

but for now I stick with:

Samyang 12/2
Voigtlander 15/4.5
Pentax 24/2.8
Pentax 50/1.4
Tokina 90/2.5 macro

For one cam/lens combo out walking I take either the 12/2 or the 15/4.5
depending on lighting conditions. On a bright day the 15mm is lovely to
use and so small - very lightweight. The Samyang is quite big, but my
God, talk about 'f/8 and be there' - set a decent ISO, zone focus, click
on f/8 and it's a great streetgrabber. Forces you to get in amongst the
action, which I love. I have zooming legs ;-)

If I take it all out in the bag, it all fits in a Paul Marius 'Le Petit
Reporter' along with my Fujifilm X20 which is great to use (despite
having ugh has a zoom!) with a couple of spare batteries each as well.
Also a beautiful little flash unit that comes with the Oly - operates of
the camera battery and rotates and swivels for bounce flash as well.
Hardly ever use it though.

Features I love - pull out and swivel/rotate rear LCD that can be close
facing inwards, so no chimping! Beautiful ergonomics even in my big
hands. Does good HD video (I use it professionally for steadicam-type
shots on a 3-axis gimbal device). And looks to die for. If Leica made a
camera this small with these features, I would probably have one.

The magnifying option on the electronic viewfinder comes in handy.

I have been keeping a look out on Ebay. I thought it might be fun to
pick up one for casual use but they don't come up often here and the
exchange rate & postage makes buying from the US more than I'm
comfortable with. Without a viewfinder, I can't see me using one
regularly and I'm not sold on the concept of retaining the K mount
register distance.

For the moment, I'm keeping my foot in the door of Pentax mirrorless
with the Q.

Cheers

Tha K-01 can be had really cheap on eBay these days. You might want to
try one out. I thought I'd hate it and I've come to like it a lot.

interesting Charles — i'm in almost exactly the same position — K-5 and a
nice set of lenses (100 WR macro, 15/4, 35/2.8 macro …) idle for months;
having a hard time deciding to completely let go…

i've been using an E-M1 with three main lenses - Panasonic 20/1.7, Olympus
50/2.0 macro and Pentax-M 100/4 macro; that last keeps my foot in the door
here — a fun lens at 200mm equivalent and with focus-peaking

Sadly, the K-01 wasn't really what anyone wanted. Sales outside Japan
were disappointing, and I at least thought that no one would ever
attempt a mirrorless camera that natively supported DSLR lenses again.

Then came the Sigma mirrorless sd Quatro cameras, and the concept though
wounded still appeared to be limping along. The reviews of the Sigma
cameras however make it clear the Sigma didn't so much save the concept
but deliver the coup de grâce.

There's noting wrong with the concept, the execution however of it has
failed. Marketers being marketers won't be able to tell the difference
between failure of concept and failure of execution.

G'day Charles

Nice to hear from you again.

By all means hang around - you wouldn't be the only one shooting other
brands. I've gone down the OMD route too (just bought an E-M5ii to add
to my E-M10) but I still like to drag out the K-5 from time to time.
It's still a great camera - these days, just a bit too heavy to lug it
and a few lenses around like I used to...

I'm hanging on to my Pentax gear waiting for the mythical and
competitive Pentax mirrorless to appear (much as I liked the idea of the
K-01, it wasn't what I wanted).

It pains me to watch my K5 and lenses just rot in a bag - is there *any*
resale value on an original, "well-loved" K-5 body? And what's the
current
state of opinion on the 16-50? (But if each are only a couple hundred,
I'll probably just tuck the big ol' bag of gear into a cabinet and let
'em
sit there...)
