Looks good on Radio 1 but has No Title showing next to icon on RHS of

On Radio 4 I am now getting file type PNG and no now playing indicator

Hope BBC sort this out soon and thanks as ever for all the work you put
into my favourite squeezebox plug-in.

This on my squeezebox classics:

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2012-08-21 Thread 05mattjax

Thanks for this information. Having enabled SrvrPowerCtrl on the
LMServer I can successfully shutdown/restart the nas remotely via iPeng
without changing any settings. What I can't do is once shutting down the
players (Touch and Radio) will not switch to Squeezenetwork. Would you
say the shutdown command needs amending?

I have enabled ssh and can access via PuTTy. I can run the 'ps aux |
grep 'squeeze' and it chucks out some information but I'm a bit stuck
from here. Could you explain what I need to do from here. I would like
the use the 'switch to Squeezenetwork' function when shutting down. Does
iPeng switch too as I couldn't get this to work either.

Finally I guess as my Nas does not have WOL I can't start up the server
remotely via SrvrPowerCtrl - is this right? Thanks.

I am not at all a computer person so I doubt if this will help. I did
happen to notice this on a different forum and wondered if it might be
useful. It is a caffeinate command that targets the specific program
SABnzbd specifically. Could not we do the same thing with LMS?

 caffeinate -i /Applications/SABnzbd.app/Contents/MacOS/SABnzbd

Thanks jdwek but no. LMS runs continuously as a service. It is not run
as a command as and when you want to play some music. The S in LMS
stands for Server.

The usage of caffeinate in the example you found will prevent idle
timeouts for as long as SABnzbd runs. The at the end of the command
means that caffeinate will do its work on SABnzbd in the background -
effectively meaning that the terminal command prompt will come back to
you straight away. Run the ps command then and you should see caffeinate
listed among your running processes. Type pmset -g to see that
caffeinate has turned off the idle timeout. The command fg will bring
caffeinate back into the foreground - you could then terminate it, and
the SABnzbd it has started, by typing ctrl C to interrupt it.

LMS should not require a great deal of computer background to use when
it works - it has failed as a product if it does. But unfortunately when
it goes wrong those who have the background seem to have to get involved
as Logitech often seem very slow to pick these things up themselves.
There is a priority system for dealing with bugs - hence my plea for
people to vote. Many thanks for doing so.

As caffeinate is likely to be used for other things apart from my test
fix, please see my next post regarding my steps for getting
ReallyPreventStandby to (mostly) work.

I don't think your earlier explanations were clear on this. If I now
understand you correctly, there would be other situation where this
would apply. For instance, if the Mac wakes of its own accord (say, to
perform the daily tasks) it would not stay awake for the period set in
Energy Saver.
As I have also said before I think Apple have it right with ML. It is
now up to developers to use the tools properly, (And I do know about
legacy programs which will not be fixed but caffeinate and a
corresponding GUI will provide a solution for that.)

We seem to agree on this. I must have been misinterpreting you earlier,
because I thought you were arguing that such a solution was a bad
thing.

Caffeinate is fine for interactive use when the Mac is already awake,
directly, or indirectly from scripts, but to call after WOL will give us
 race conditions in my view.

I expect you are right on this. By the way, one run of your approach to
ReallyPreventStandby has worked fine, have not yet done any other runs.

Allow standby after how many idle minutes? 3
Prohibit standby if players are on? Checked
 Inhibit standby command: caffeinate -i
 Re-enable standby command: pkill caffeinate
Inhibit is a toggle command: Checked

 Then Apply the changes

I am now happy enough with the fix to ReallyPreventStandby (please see
earlier post for full testing instructions) that I am going to keep my
system this way for now. If you choose to do the same, I strongly
recommend that you get yourself your own copy of caffeinate for use just
by ReallyPreventStandby. This will prevent any other interactive uses of
caffeinate from being unexpectedly terminated after all you SB's are
turned off.

I find it easist to do this in a terminal window, but the following
could be done in Finder:

cd
pwd
mkdir bin
cp /usr/bin/caffeinate bin/lms-noidle

this sequence makes sure you are in your home directory (or folder),
prints (shows) the full pathname of that folder (should be /Users/USER
where I am assuming you are logged in as the user who installed LMS),
makes you a new directory (folder) called bin (for binary - if you
already have one you probably do not need any help from me), and then
takes a copy of caffeinate as lms-noidle and puts it in your own bin
directory.

Then, in the ReallyPreventStandby instructions quoted partly above use
lms-noidle instead of caffeinate:

Inhibit standby command: /Users/USER/bin/lms-noidle -i
Re-enable standby command: pkill lms-noidle

I have suggested that you place the copy of caffeinate outside the
ReallyPreventStandby folders so you will not lose it if installing or
re-installing the plugin.
You could instead try using the command that Gordon provides which is
/Users/USER/Library/Caches/Squeezebox/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/ReallyPreventStandby/bin/mac/sleep-inhibit
- especially if you want to try my fix and configuration on versions of
OSX before Mountain Lion that do not have caffeinate.

Very neat idea.

I have run into one problem, that is probably the way
ReallyPreventStandby works (but I never debugged enough previously to
know about it).

I listened to a program on BBC using BBC iPlayer. After a while I
stopped it (but did not turn my SB off). I thought ReallyPreventStandby
would now regard the SB as idle. However it seems not, I had to wait
till PowerSave kicked in to turn the SB off. I'll have to check with an
item from my own music library rather than the BBC.

When you followed my suggestions you will have set:

Prohibit standby if players are on? Checked

So ReallyPreventStandby is doing exactly what it was asked to do. You
could try setting it unchecked but I strongly suspect you will find that
your Mac will go to sleep while it is playing BBC iPlayer. That should
not matter a great deal as this plugin only needs LMS to get started.
BUT I have Triode's Spotify configured to Always Stream via the Helper
(to solve other problems). I very much doubt you will find that
ReallyPreventStandby really prevents standby while Spotify is playing
with this configuration.

That is why I keep Prohibit standby if players are on? Checked. It is a
simple and reliable condition that ReallyPreventStandby can check.

So yes - it is a good idea to have PowerSave configured.

Many thanks again for providing this great plugin.

 1) When going e.g. through Recommeneded arists, for a particular

shows Empty. This is a systematic problem for all recommneded artists'

 2) When a track is playing and I use the context menu, selecting the

for me and one of the reasons why I was willing to give mine away. What
you could do is use SrvrPowerCtrl's End of Day function to monitor
system idle and shutdown the server only during the wee hours. Then
either program a silent Squeezebox alarm (i.e. use an mp3 file of
silence for the alarm playlist) or program some kind of innocuous
crontab job for a specific time of day that you'd like the NAS to boot
up. All the recent motherboards I've been using support cold boot RTC
wake alarms. I'm not sure the ReadyNAS's rtc driver or hardware support
this, though. You'll just have to check.

The next beta version of SrvrPowerCtrl will have an enhanced
spc-wakeup.sh script that will make experimenting with this much easier.
I'll try to get this commited to my beta repo in a week or so.

Anyway, IF the ReadyNAS's RTC wakealarm supports cold booting, then, in
order for SrvrPowerCtrl to be able to program timed system wakeups /
boots, you'll need to finish the SrvrPowerCtrl setup as outlined on the
help page.

  root 13732 0.0 0.0 9376 928 pts/0S+ 07:36 0:00 grep
--color=auto squeeze

What that tells me is that the user accout with UID '110' owns the
squeezeboxserver process. If I then:

# cat /etc/passwd | grep '110'

..I get back:

Code:

squeezeboxserver:x:110:65534:Logitech Media
Server,,,:/usr/share/squeezeboxserver:/bin/false

This tells me that UID 110 belongs to the 'squeezeboxserver' account.
For SrvrPowerCtrl's purposes, I'll then need to add the following lines
to the /etc/sudoers file:

Code:

  squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /sbin/shutdown*
  squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/pm-suspend*
  squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/pm-hibernate*
  squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/pm-powersave*
  squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/crontab -l
  squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/local/sbin/spc-checkidle.sh*
  squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/local/sbin/spc-restart.sh*
  squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/local/sbin/spc-test.sh*
  squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/local/sbin/spc-wakeup.sh*

Make sure to create a backup copy of your sudoers file before you edit
it! Also, ask on the ReadyNAS forum if the pmutils package can somehow
be installed on the NAS. (I.e. can you install packages via 'apt-get',
etc?) If not, then you need to find substitute commands for the pm-*
commands. The spc-* scripts you should manually copy from
SrvrPowerCtrl's scripts/Debian directory to /usr/local/sbin. Or try
running the scripts/Debian/srvrpowerctrl-setup.sh script and see if it
works. That script should modify your sudoers file for you and install
the helper scripts. See the SrvrPowerCtrl Help page, available from the
link at the top of the settings page.

If you get resolution of mysqueezebox.com and you can ping it, I don't
see why the 'Shutdown to MySqueezebox.com' feature shouldn't be working.
That said, I haven't tested this feature since Logitech ditched it's
own servers and moved MySqueezebox.com to Amazon's cloud.

You did install the latest BETA version of SrvrPowerCtrl, didn't you?
The 'released' version is ancient and probably only really works with
old version of Squeezebox Server 7.4.

Thanks Gordon. I hope you will still be in a position sometime to take a
look yourself at the change I have made. The call I deleted might have
been needed for some other case. Also the server log has some things
about deprecated calls. If you are happy with the change you might want

But yes - working well for me now - just the occasional slip back into
sleep on waking from an SB but I think that is due to caffeinate (the

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2012-08-21 Thread IanRM

Hello

I've had my SBT for a few days now. iPlayer app works well and has been
running all day on radio 3 HD stream. However Spotify does not work
either the official green one or the orange Triode one. I can bring up
lists of albums and tracks on both but when I select a track it plays
for about 30 seconds and then freezes and the SBT reboots itself. This
happens on both apps.
Any ideas please?

Thanks, will take a look and see if I can find some bugs to correct
based on it :-)

However, the database disk image is malformed coming from Multi
Library plugin definitely sounds very bad, so I would keep an eye if
Multi Library plugin stops working properly or if you start to get these
messages also from other plugins. I suspect the Multi Library libraries
won't be updated at the moment as long as you get these errors. I've
sometimes got malformed database errors in my development setup but it
has always been caused by my killing SBS/LMS abruptly instead of
shutting it down nicely.

Unfortunately, I don't really have a good solution to solve it, buy some
ideas follows below:
1. The first thing I would try is to restart LMS and then goto
Extras/Multi Library and hit the refresh libraries link and look in
the log if it produce an error afterwards.
2. Make sure your disk isn't full, because a full disk at the wrong time
could probably result in issues like this
3. The solution I'm fairly sure works is to shutdown LMS, delete
persist.db file and start LMS. But deleting persist.db will also delete
all TrackStat data and Custom Scan data, so afterwards you will have to
restore a TrackStat backup (if you are using TrackStat) and perform a
rescan with Custom Scan (if you are using Custom Scan).

Do you know if you have shutdown/killed LMS abruptly or done anything
else that could have caused this issue ?

TuneIn's programme descriptions for BBC Radio 4 live are working, so how
come BBCiPlayer's aren't? Yes, yes, I know the purist view that
BBCiPlayer is beholden to the BBC's XMLs, but the fact is that
information that is in the public domain simply isn't getting through to
BBCiPlayer.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Erland's Plug-ins, Large Collections, and Hardware Requirements

2012-08-21 Thread davidfox2116

I have been an extremely satisfied VortexBox Appliance (VBA) owner since
December 2009. In that time I've built an extensive music library
while modifying both the hardware and software of my machine
incrementally over the years. I've succeeded in converting several
friends into avid VB enthusiasts.

As my collection grew, I found that my setup was struggling to handle
database queries. Playback was fine, as long as I used mechanisms to
locate discs that didn't result in substantial database operations.
Mostly I would do an artist or an album query. A song query would
invariably hang or crash LMS. I have an extensive classical collection
and I spent a great deal of effort entering and maintaining the
requisite metadata. I was looking forward to having the ability of,
say, pulling up all of my recordings of Bruckner's Seventh Symphony or
listing all of the recordings of a given pianist by composer. Erland
Isaksson's LMS plugins (Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Mixed Tags, etc)
seemed ideally-suited for this task. Unfortunately, whenever I tried to
run these queries they would either time out or LMS would crash.

I started a correspondence with Erland who couldn't have been more
helpful. I sent him log files, database files, and several other
diagnostics. I began noticing that LMS was also spontaneously dying
overnight with out-of-memory errors. My machine was a standard VBA with
1 GB of RAM and an original 2TB of disc space expanded to 5TB, with my
collection totaling approximately 120,000 tracks. I also keep an MP3
mirror and run Subsonic. There have been many threads over the years
in the VortexBox forums inquiring about whether 1GB of memory is
sufficient. The standard answer was that VB used far less than 1GB and
that more memory shouldn't lead to increased performance.

After getting absolutely nowhere after many months of happy listening
but growing frustration with my limited capabilities, I decided to build
a new server box. I bought a new Lenovo box from Fry's for $299. It
had 6GB of memory (massive overkill), a 2.8 Ghz dual-core AMD processor,
and a 500GB drive preloaded with Windows 7. It took me about $300 and
less than 10 minutes to install two new 3TB drives (pulling and putting
aside the Windows disc) along with a USB3 card. In about an hour I had
a fully-functioning VB. In about a 24 hours, all of my music and
settings were transferred from the old box.

My results have been jaw-dropping. Not only are all of my Custom
Browse queries running, they usually return results within one or two
seconds. There is clearly significant caching going on, so after the
first query things go much more swiftly thereafter.I can search by
song now, where on my old box a song query would have been equivalent
to hitting the “Stop LMS” button. And I can do all of this with music
playing, literally without missing a beat. I've been looking at the
System Status figures while I run queries. In steady state, “kernel and
applications” use about 1.3 GB of memory. The rest is spent on caching,
buffers, and disk swap.

My suspicion is that while LMS and Subsonic can run on a VBA with less
than 1GB of RAM, a large collection combined with complex queries pushed
the hardware over the brink. I didn't structure my upgrade as a
controlled experiment. Perhaps merely increasing RAM to 2GB on my VBA
would have worked nearly as well (none of the diagnostics ever suggested
that my VBA was CPU-bound). I just wanted to pass on that for users of
Erland's LMS plugins with large libraries, the current VBA hardware
configuration may not be insufficient to utilize the full capabilities
of the LMS package.

The good news is that I am absolutely thrilled with my new VB setup. I
wish realized sooner that my problems were hardware-related. I'm
posting this in the hope of helping others who may be struggling with
similar issues.

IIRC Tune-in adds the info themselves, it is not part of the BBC

from another BBC feed but BBC killed it off when they started Livetext.

Thanks for sharing.

Just to be sure I understand: Vortex Box runs under Unix and you are
using Unix in the new setup, not Win 7? (Sorry if this is a basic
question, but I have not used Vortex Box. I thought it was a Linux build
of some kind incorporating LMS.)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2012-08-21 Thread vagskal

I have done several reboots so it is possible I have behaved badly
against LMS. Since I am streamlining my setup for performance reasons, I
may just disable MultiLibrary which I do not normally use actively.
Risking the CustomScan data that I have managed to get into the
persistent database is in any case not an option. Although I cannot
check at the moment, there should not be any run out of disc space
problems.

Vortexbox is a package based on Fedora Linux which includes LMS and a
number of related utilities.

I have not run LMS under Win 7, but the issues I discussed in my post
may pertain as well. The point is if you are working with a relatively
low-memory underpowered machine, a hardware upgrade (particularly, a
memory upgrade) may yield substantial results in Custom Browse
performance.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] 3voor12 Luisterpaal on Squeezebox

2012-08-21 Thread johan d

Hello,
In the Netherlands Belgium there is a site:
http://3voor12.vpro.nl/
It broadcasts new albums for about 2-3 weeks. Ideal for discovering new
music. You can listen on your PC or smartphone (android app) Wouldn't it
be great to have a plugin to listen to it on your squeezebox. i think it
should be possible.

Is there anybody with programming skill who can do this?

Thx, Johan
