Thanks for that suggestion, Paul! Interestingly, my Windows 11 setup
does have a "Loopback" function that was configured with the
installation of my Focusrite Scartlett 18i8 audio interface that will, I
think, take the place of the "Stereo Mix" feature found in older Windows
versions. So, both the old WaveInput and StreamWhatYouHear plugins
could be part of the setup.

However, in my current situation, the source audio is on a Windows 11
laptop and the LMS server is actually on a Raspberry Pi device. The
challenge is getting the Soundcard audio from Windows to LMS on RPi...

I did (sort of) successfully pull it off last night by using Rocket
Broadcaster to encode the soundcard output and Rocket Audio Streaming
Audio Server to "serve it up" to a TCP port on my Windows Laptop. I
used Winamp to generate a Playlist to the server instance and then saved
the Playlist on LMS in it's Playlist directory so that I could choose it
from various Squeeze Players throughout the house. It worked
however there was about a 60 second ish delay in transmission. Not
exactly a deal killer for my 5 year old... but not exactly what I'm
looking for either. From what I could tell this 60 latency is echoed
in other forums as well with folks trying similar software acrobatics.

If I come across a better solution, I'll report it here. Thanks
everyone for your generosity and support!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Stream Windows PC Audio to Raspberry Pi LMS

2022-03-16 Thread noexit

I was challenged by my 5 year old to send the output of my Windows-based
Audio PC running Ableton and capturing sounds from my synthesizers to
our Raspberry Pi Logitech Media Server so that we could listen
throughout the "whole house" I know about the "Line-in" plugin on
LMS... But how can I, in an efficient/simple manner send an audio stream
from Windows 11 to LMS on a RaspberryPi? My PC has a fancy USB
Focusrite multiple output Audio interface... but I think sending the
audio across the LAN in the house would be more elegant that draping a
cable across the floor.

I thought about setting up shoutcast/rocket streaming audio server/and
OBS... but it seemed too complicated for my short attention span mind at
this moment. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!!

Interesting note, Michael:
I notice when I "volume up" increment my players using Squeeze Ctrl from
my Android phone I get the following volume increments around the "50
range":
Squeezelite on Lubuntu: 46, 48, 50, 52...
SqueezePlay (Jive) on Windows: 47, 49, 51, 53...
Squeezelite on Ubuntu: 47, 49, 51, 53...
Squeezelite on Raspbian Buster: 47, 49, 51, 53...

Do you think one of my players sitting on a 49er caused it to hang up?
Also, wonder why some of my players increment on even numbers and others
to odd?
Let me know if I can provide you any more details to help you
troubleshoot.

All that said, all my players seem to working relatively fine for now.
I'll keep 'em off the 49er for now though!

Well, Michael! Perhaps just your beloved grace has repaired my issue.
I awake this morning to find Spotty healed and delivering smooth morning
chill goodness wonderfully. I didn't reauthenticate. Just tried it
again after some sleep. I think perhaps the issue may be related to
some corruption in the database regarding playlists or shortcuts or
something. I think I did force a re-read of all the music files before I
went to bed. I'll attach the server and scanner logs to see if they
make any sense to anyone and maybe I'll gain further insight as to what,
if anything might be needed further.

EDIT: I go to download the Log files and find that the Server log is
BLANK! Empty! Do the logs erase themselves after a certain point?
Interestingly, I did save a version of the Server log from last night
when the problems were occuring. I'll attach that as well as the
current scanner log.

Thanks for all you guys do! This is by far my FAVORITE software I use.
Perhaps when my "day job" permits I can learn more to help contribute at
least as much as you guys have given me over the years!

Well I'm not quite sure how I did it but, it seems after messing around
with my Raspberry Pi tinkering with installing and uninstalling Docker
I've somehow, maybe messed up my Spotty functionality on my
SqueezeServer. I'm running Logitech Media Server Version: 8.2.0 -
1627922070 and Spotty Plugin 4.7.1 natively on a Raspbery Pi 4 (not
inside Docker... yet.. maybe not ever).

It seems whenever I try to initiate the plugin I get the following
error:

line 144.

Should I try perhaps deleting my Spotify Credentials somehow and
re-authenticating?

Thanks for all you guys do to keep our lovely home swingin'!!

Michael
It's an honor to have your reply to my question. You are indeed a
Supra-Genius! I will have to take a deep breath and upgrade to LMS8 to
study this Library Import feature you speak of. I'm assuming you mean
my Spotify Library, right?

That said, I also stumbled across another possible work-around: I also
wanted my "Buzzout Room Radio" available in the car. Thus I found a
website called SoundIIz (soundiiz.com) that allows you to take a Spotify
Playlist (yours or any others') and convert it to a YouTube playlist. I
then use a program by MediaHuman called YouTube to MP3 converter that
will download and convert YouTube Playlist to MP3. A big hit to my
monthly data limit and some automated downloading later I now have the
Buzzout Room playlist downloaded locally where I can play them from the
Raspberry Pi's attached 4 TB USB drive.

Here's the discovery: When I create and play the Buzzout Room Playlist
using local media (attached USB Drive to LMS) it can successfully
shuffle all 1547 songs in the playlist. If I could only get my minivan
to do the same. It will only see 500 songs per folder. Yes, that's
outside of the scope of this forum, but I've had a right amount of
coffee this morning to feel communicative and socially expressive!
Anyway, back to the LMS local media: I suppose the way it "requests" is
different. How I'd love to spend a month in your brain, Michael to
learn how you do what you do!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotify (Spotty) Playlist Limits?

2020-09-28 Thread noexit

There's a particular internet radio station I used to listen to called
"The Buzzout Room". They've since stopped broadcasting and have
converted their "Station" to an ever evolving Spotify Playlist that, as
of now, has 1604 songs. When I queue up the playlist using my Spotty
Plugin I notice that it only loads 188 of the songs. Is there a way to
allow the entire list to be queued? I usually load the list and then
Shuffle by Song to get a very nice Randomized Radio effect.

Thanks for all you guys do!

Thanks for the guidance and schooling! I'm not sure yet about the exact
output of Spotty. I did receive 'a message from Michael Herger'
and he thinks its 44100 and can't be changed. That adds up when I
change the DMix default to 44100 and it corrects Spotty's playback speed
to normal as well as when playing back 44100 files from local sources.

I need to do some reading about the relationship between bits (16 or 24)
and sample rate (44100 vs 48000).

> To force LMS resampling use -rJust to clarify: Do I add the *-r* and the
> *-a* switches to the
*squeezelite_settings.sh* file under the *SL_Additional_Options *setting
at the end?

I sincerely appreciate the guidance. Your questions are helping me
learn a very new and fascinating technology.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Sample Rate settings affecting local files, streams and Spotty via Squeezelite

2020-01-24 Thread noexit

I've got a Raspberry Pi 4 with an AudioInjector Stereo card attached.
Raspbian Desktop. I use this Pi as a Family Media PC. We play videos
via VLC, pass audio from the TV through the input channel and then out
to the speakers. We also have Squeezelite installed to act as a music
player. To enable "audio sharing" between applications, I'm utilizing
the ALSA dmix plugin. I've heard that PulseAudio doesn't work well with
Squeezelite.

My current problem is in deciphering Sample Rates. If I set my default
dmix rate *defaults.pcm.dmix.rate 48000* as such I'm able to play local
files that are 48000 or 44100. However, this makes 44100 local files,
streams and even Spotty play too fast in Squeezelite.

When I change the rate to 44100 then I'm no longer able to play 48000
files.

Does anyone know a way to correctly utilize dmix to accommodate for
multiple sample rates? Or a dmix alternative that plays well with
Squeezelite?

Can I achieve application audio sharing without dmix (ala Pulse Audio,

If not, how do I configure resampling in LMS? C-3PO?

You're right! I'm running on too little sleep these days.

Haven't figured out what Spotty's sample rate is yet. Still digging.

I notice that when I change the */usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf *back to the
default: *defaults.pcm.dmix.rate 48000*, Squeezelite plays local files
that are encoded at 44100 too fast. So, I added the following to the
end of my *squeezelite_settings.sh* - *SL_ADDITIONAL_OPTIONS="-C 5,
-u"*

However, when I do that Spotify streamed songs then play terribly
distorted. I'll post in the Spotty page to see if I can figure it out.

Well, that broke Spotty playing back on this Squeezelite. I have Spotty

with DMix and Squeezelite.

I like seeing screenshots of other folk's stuff they're up to. How'd
you get Jivelite running? Further, how'd you get it running in a Window?

I'm very familiar with that interface because I've got Squeezeplay
running on all my other Windows Systems that I use as player's around
the house. 8 systems total. 3 are Android, 2 are Linux and 3 are
Windows. This project will retire 2 of the Windows units.

Thanks for this suggestion and reminder! My MP3 collection is a HUGE
mixed up mess that needs to be seriously cleaned up and purged for
exactly the same reasons you just mentioned. Sadly, I've got an
increasingly nasty case of tinnitus that I've had since childhood, but
has gotten somewhat worse with the birth of my 2 kids in the last 5
years. Perhaps it's the screaming. Perhaps it's that I'm just turning
50. At any rate, it will be interesting to see, once I get these files
cleaned up/upgraded, if I'll be able to tell the difference between 128k
and something as delicious sounding as FLAC. However, I'm still holding
on to my vinyls. They're safely hidden away here at the house where no
meddling kids can find them. A couple more years of maturity in these
boys and I'll bust out the turntable and turn these boys on to some of
my gems like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Mingus, and Monk... Maybe even
throw in some Allman Brothers, Deep Purple or ELO.

Then again... Spotify has 320k doesn't it... Makes me think about
deleting or at least seriously purging the MP3 directory.

Not intentionally. I'm simply using this Pi to act as a "media PC"
where the family can play what they like on it on the family room TV and
speakers. I take the audio from the TV (HDMI Firestick, Roku,
Chromecast attached) and send it to the input of the Pi to be simply
passed on to the output and thus the speakers. I also intend to play
local media via VLC or Web via Chromium Browser on the desktop using the
TV as it's monitor. So, if the AudioInjector Soundcard on the Pi is
generating a 48kHz stream I'm not sure where it would be. Perhaps from
it's RCA Line IN?

EDIT--- HOT DAMN - I THINK I FOUND IT!!! Based on your clues I found
this in the Asoundrc page of the AlsaProject:
(https://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Asoundrc) > Some notes:
>
> The dmix PCM name is already defined in the global configuration file

So I changed the following line in */usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf*
to now read *defaults.pcm.dmix.rate 41000* It was, by default, 48000.

Reboot and now ole David Gilmore is sounding all grown up again and I
can simultaneously play Spongebob on the VLC player! You guys are
awesome! Come to the US and I'll buy you all a few beers and make you
some homemade Pizza!

You guys are incredible detectives and I'm learning an awful lot. I'm
very glad I decided to take this project on and engage the support of
the forums as it's filling in a lot of the knowledge gaps I've had
around my love of both computers and audio.

Here's what I've discovered:

@Ronnie - Your suggestion of switching the Squeezelite Soundcard setting
was well targeted: I changed the *SoundCard *line in
*/usr/local/bin/squeeezelite_settings.sh *from
SL_SOUNDCARD="*dmix*:CARD=audioinjectorpi"  to
SL_SOUNDCARD="*hw*:CARD=audioinjectorpi,DEV=0".  This made Squeezelite
play at normal speed/pitch again (see results below). Of note, I DID
leave on the *DEV=0,*" on the entry as it was already there. However,
when I tried to simultaneously play another audio file in VLC, an error
was returned in VLC stating that the audio device DMIX was "Busy".
When I changed the entry back to DMIX the playback speed and pitch in
Squeezelite increased again, but also, as expected, audio sharing was
re-established across applications.

@Bpa - Thanks for suggesting the details of the files. Note that both
playback time and pitch are affected. As far as I can tell, the track
isn't being played back through any kind of transcoders or processing.
Or at least, I haven't set any up, so if they are they are part of the
default install of my AudioInjector card, LMS or Squeezelite I suppose.
The test file is an MP3 stored on a USB drive attached to a networked
PC. However, I also notice that playback of a network stream (SomaFM,
Venice Classic Radio) also renders the same problem affecting both speed
and pitch. (I wasn't sure until I chose a Classic Rock radio station
where I could hear familiar music - Tom Petty's Refugee as if he's 9
years old ). After a few minutes of playback I hear
"corrections" in the stream dropping, skipping, stuttering.

Of note, VLC's playback speed/pitch doesn't appear to be affected by
DMIX. It seems that Squeezelite gets a little "excited" being hooked up
to the ALSA Dmix plugin. If you guys like I could make an audio capture
of the differences in pitch for your listening pleasure. 9 year old
David Gilmore .

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezelite on Pi4 playing way too fast

2020-01-14 Thread noexit

Just got Squeezelite running on Raspberry Pi 4 (Raspbian Desktop) using
an AudioInjector Stereo hat. Plays fine for a while then starts
stuttering. However, I didn't realize that the playback speed/pitch of
the music was way to fast/high until I played a song that I knew the
relative correct pitch for (Pink Floyd's "Breathe" from Dark Side of the
Moon) So I synchronized another player with the Pi4/Squeezelite and boy
was there a lot of synchronization noise... stuttering, skipping, etc.
At first I wanted to blame the audio card as I had read of a similar
problem with another Pi Hat brand. However, when I played the same song
from a network MP3 file via VLC the playback speed was normal.

So, something in my Squeezelite setup somehow isn't right. Perhaps
something relating playback clock timing or perhaps sample rates?

Any advice and guidance is greatly appreciated!

Michael! Thanks so much for your guidance and support with my Spotty
plugin issues. As it turns out my issue was likely a file permissions
issue within Windows that was resolved my deleting and recreating my
extremely bloated user profile. Since then I've been very much using
the Spotty plugin to hear all kinds of great Jazz (Hard Bop Jazz
playlist to be specific). I'll likely be canceling my Deezer account as
the interface for Deezer seems not nearly as robust and useful. Thanks
again for all you do!

Well, If I really knew what I was doing I would just go somewhere and
hide... Anyway, I have yet to get Spotty to "successfully" authenticate
from my Production LMS machine. My backup machine seemed to
authenticate fine. Both are Win 7 machines and on the same network. I
tried copying the authentication folder that was created in my backup
system to my production system and then Spotty proceeded to the
configuration page where I could select which Squeeze instances I could
connect to. Making the selections basically hung up LMS rendering it
unusable until I terminated the service. Not sure really what to do
next. I do appreciate all the guidance I've been given so far.

Very interesting information from both Michael and David. So, I
experimented a bit, bypassed firewalls, etc. and remembered I have an
"old" installation of LMS I have on another Win 7 system that I use as a
"dormant backup". I turn it on, update the Spotty Plugin and it
connects successfully. So, it seems to be somehow related to my
"production" system and/or it's LMS installation. I'll keep you posted
with more updates as I figure them out.

Very interesting, Michael! I'm using a pfSense firewall so it could be
that something is blocking. That said, the Desktop app has no problem
reaching Spotify's network. Can you tell me which ports I need to have
available for Spotty to reach Spotify?

Yes, exactly! To terminate the spotty.exe program I would either CTRL-C
to return to the command prompt or end the task in Task Manager. Below

Sorry for the confusion, Michael. And Thanks for your guidance and
patience. From a command prompt I entered:
"C:\PROGRA~3\SQUEEZ~1\Cache\INSTAL~1\Plugins\Spotty\Bin\MSWIN3~1\spotty.exe
-c "C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\spotty\__AUTHENTICATE__" -n "Spotify
Authorization (music01)" -u "no" -p "**" -a
--disable-discovery

Spotty.exe is running in Task Manager but when I open the Spotify
Desktop App and look under Connected Devices, Spotty is not the list of
devices. To be more specific, no other devices are in the list as I'm
not running the Spotify Desktop App on any other devices presently.

Thanks again for your guidance.

Thanks for the continued support Michael! When I run from the command
window there's no response... Just a blinking cursor. I do see the
executable running in Task Manager but no response at the command
prompt. It will stay that way until I perform a CTRL-C to terminate. I
wasn't sure if this was normal behavior or not.

I see that running from the command prompt brings an instance of
spotty.exe into memory in Task Manager under my ID instead of System. If
I also bring up the Spotify Advanced Settings screen in LMS another
spotty.exe starts under the System ID.

So, I terminated the System ID spotty.exe and only ran the one from the
command prompt. So far, no extra device has appeared the Spotify
desktop app.

I also rebooted a few times and even started a new server log. I'll
upload the new (shorter) server log showing just what I worked on this
morning to your Dropbox.

Windows 7 is 64 bit install but MS V C++ 2015 (x86) is the 32 bit
install..

When I run "spotty.exe -n test -x" I get the following:

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.3.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-07-05 Thread noexit

I'm very excited about getting Spotty setup on my LMS system but I'm
hitting a snag somewhere and need some help:

I'm running LMS 7.9.1 on a Windows 7 PC. I have among several other
versions MS V C++ 2015 (x86) installed. But can't get beyond the
authentication screen on the plugin folder. I'm running the Spotify
Desktop app version 1.0.84.344.gfc674f6f. The last Spotty entry in the
server log states: Plugins::Spotty::Connect::canSpotifyConnect (70)
Cannot support Spotty Connect, need at least helper version 0.12.0.
When I look for the devices in Spotify, Spotty Authentication is never
there.

I do notice 1 instance of Spotty.exe running in Task Manager and when I
try to manually plugin my Spotify login credentials and hit apply, a
second Spotty.exe starts up. I notice this usually brings my LMS system
to a crawl until I kill at least one of the Spotty.exe instances.

I can post the server log if you like.

Thanks to all of you for your guidance!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Mixcloud plugin?

2017-12-04 Thread noexit

Looks like I keep occasionally seeing this message in the LMS Server log
when I'm having problems with the MixCloud Plugin:

[17-12-04 10:43:28.2090] Plugins::MixCloud::ProtocolHandler::getTrackUrl
(109) Error: Cannot get play URL for MendelKa/16201/ from
http://www.mixcloud-downloader.com/MendelKa/16201/

I've had this problem repeatedly and symptoms include the server
hanging, being unresponsive etc if any of my players try to access the
MixCloud Plugin. What I found is that when I go to the actual
"Mixcloud-Downloader" URL in the log, there's now a new "Are You Human?"
checkbox that we must tick to allow connection to the site. Once
checked, from any browser in my local network it seems to resolve my
issue across all players as when I go to Mixcloud Downloader from other
machines the "Are You Human?" query is no longer displayed. I suspect
the "Are You Human?" success criteria is applied to my external IP
address. So, perhaps every time my ISP changes IP's I might need to "Be
Human" once again to the Mixcloud-Downloader.com site before trying to
use the MixCloud Plugin.

Until I hear otherwise, I'll save a link in my Bookmarks Bar for quick
access to "Humanity" in resolving future Mixcloud Hangups.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Mixcloud plugin?

2017-11-17 Thread noexit

Looks like I took some kind of LMS update (v7.9.1, 1510723637) according
to the log and since it did if any of my players have Mixcloud in the
playlist it grinds the server to a basic crawl stop halt so to speak.
Got lots of these messages repeating in the Server log:

[17-11-17 21:05:58.9452] Plugins::MixCloud::ProtocolHandler::getTrackUrl
(109) Error: Cannot get play URL for MendelKa/161620/ from
http://www.mixcloud-downloader.com/MendelKa/161620/

To get the server to respond at all I had to terminate it via task
manager and start it in safe mode. So, I tried doing my previous trick,
uninstall the plugin, restart, reinstall the plugin, but this time the
problem persists. I did notice that while the plugin was uninstalled
the server ran like tip top. Put the plugin back in and then try to
call up Mixcloud... slows down to stop with network connecting errors
from the players.

Any suggestions on how to remove an update in the meantime?

GEE... All I had to do was post here and clarity was returned to my
feeble brain: I DESELECTED the Mixcloud Plugin in LMS... rebooted the
server (service)... then RESELECTED the Mixcloud plugin and now I'm
jammin for over a couple of hours now! Diggin' it guys! Maybe I need
to learn how to CODE so I can help out.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Mixcloud plugin?

2017-08-01 Thread noexit

Finally got around to installing MixCloud and resolving a little issue
with encoding MP4's I had. I noticed however that the MixCloud Track
will not play for very long (a few minutes or so) before it stops. I
checked the log file and find that upon playing a MixCloud track I get
hundreds of these repeating errors instantly appearing in the log file:

[17-08-01 07:21:58.5732] Slim::Networking::IO::Select::__ANON__ (147)
Error: Select task failed calling
Slim::Web::HTTP::sendStreamingResponse: illegal file descriptor or
filehandle (either no attached file descriptor or illegal value): at
/Slim/Networking/IO/Select.pm
line 150.
; fh=Slim::Web::HTTP::ClientConn=GLOB(0x9692004)
[17-08-01 07:21:58.5742] Slim::Networking::IO::Select::__ANON__ (147)
Error: Select task failed calling
Slim::Web::HTTP::sendStreamingResponse: illegal file descriptor or
filehandle (either no attached file descriptor or illegal value): at
/Slim/Networking/IO/Select.pm
line 150.
; fh=Slim::Web::HTTP::ClientConn=GLOB(0x9692004)

I attempted version 7.9.1 upgrading from version 7.7.5 and lost the
ability to stream from Mixcloud (which was what I was streaming that
caused those messages in the log to begin with.) I had previously
noticed that Mixcloud wouldn't stream for very long before it would stop
playing. I then noticed all those repeating errors in the log and
figured it must be related. Anyway, the errors I was getting on 7.9.1
was, first the inability to stream MP4, which I fixed again thanks to
this post (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...l=1#post861033). After
resolving that I was receiving the an error "[17-07-31 23:28:12.4218]
Slim::Formats::RemoteStream:pen (95) Error: Couldn't resolve IP address
for: stream50.mixcloud.com

So, I downgraded from 7.9.1 back to 7.7.5 and got Mixcloud streaming
back up and running... I'll let it run a while this morning and see how
long it lasts until it stops.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Logfile flooded after starting any MixCloud track

Any ideas what these might mean?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Phillipe! Dude, You are one Major Dude for sure
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kND8TRZap8Y). The YouTube Plugin is
now working again flawlessly and my 3 year old can now listen to Eye Of
The Tiger all he wants now.

I know you're not getting paid enough for your benevolent efforts. If
there's anything I can do to be of service to your cause, just let me
know.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: YouTube Plugin (API v3)

2017-01-11 Thread noexit

I remembered that I also have a "spare" instance of LMS dormant (turned
off) on a backup Windows 7 machine. Thought I'd fire it up and see if
it even had the YouTube Plugin installed. It was installed and,
interestingly, when telling my players to use the backup server, the
same issue of silence persists... song begins to load (the YouTube
video's picture is displayed) but no sound. I don't believe it's
actually receiving the stream somehow.

Wonder if anyone else is having this issue.
