Maybe not so easy to change  > > Again, i appreciate your effort for this plugin very much ! (Eternal caveat: I've never used the Denon AVP Control plugin, having written my own back when I used direct RS232 control.) Max volume: my plugin asks about a max Denon volume in dB. My expectation is that you'd set that to match the volume limit set on the amp. I forget where it is in the Denon setup screens, but you can set the max volume to one of a few specific values, ranging from -20 dB to +18 dB. The minimum volume is -81 dB. When you change the Squeezebox volume, my plugin calculates the nearest half-decibel (or, for secondary zones, full decibel since half decibels AFAICT are not availble except in the main zone). Set the SB volume to "27" with my plugin thinking +18 is the max volume and plugin calculates the amp volume should be (-81 + ((27/100)*(81 +18))) = -54 dB. If my plugin thought the amp max volume was 0 dB, then SB 27 would be Denon -59 dB. You might be able to do something like what you suggest by configuring the amplifier to allow +18 but telling my plugin its max volume is 0 dB, so that LMS would never set the Denon above 0 dB but you could turn the amp knob or use a Denon remote to go louder. But there are some conditions under which my plugin will resync the volume (for instance, if set to poll the amplifier, when it sees the amp power status change from off to on, it will set the amp volume to match the Squeezebox [because any volume commands attempted while the amp was off would have been rejected**), and if you had manually increased the amp volume above 0 dB, my plugin would decrease the amp volume back to 0 dB in those scenarios. Also decreasing the Squeezebox volume by even 1 of the 100 steps when the amp was set signficantly higher than 0 dB would lead to a significant drop in the Denon volume. So I would not recommend that. Also my plugin refuses to control an AVR unless the Squeezebox audio output is fixed at 100%. On my setup, I have a modfied version of Michael Herger's MusicInfoScr set to display volume on my SB3 in terms of Denon dBs instead of SB 0-100. My whole family is now quite comfortable thinking in decibels. ;-) That will only work right if my plugin knows the actual amp max volume, as it translates the fictional Squeezebox volume into what it thinks the amp volume should be; if the amp allows volume +18 dB but my plugin thinks it maxes out at 0 dB, then it would show 0 dB on the SB screen for everything from 0 dB to +18 dB. ** FWIW Yamaha's YNCA TCP protocol also rejects things like volume changes when the AVR is in standby. owner of the stuff at https://tuxreborn.netlify.app/ (which used to reside at www.tux.org/~peterw/) Note: The best way to reach me is email or PM, as I don't spend much time on the forums. *Free plugins:* AllQuiet Auto Dim/AutoDisplay BlankSaver ContextMenu DenonSerial FuzzyTime KidsPlay KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin
David, of you occasionally want to use other sources, I don't understand why you wouldn't want the Squeezebox output fixed at 100% so that only the AVR volume level changes. With SB audio output fixed at 100%, the Squeezebox volume becomes this fictional thing, and plugins like ours react to the Squeezebox fictional volume changing by changing the real AVR volume. Then there's no worry that you'll face some dramatic change in speaker volume when you change AVR inputs. You definitely don't want the Squeezebox output level changing if your amp ever uses other audio sources. owner of the stuff at https://tuxreborn.netlify.app/ (which used to reside at www.tux.org/~peterw/) Note: The best way to reach me is email or PM, as I don't spend much time on the forums. *Free plugins:* AllQuiet Auto Dim/AutoDisplay BlankSaver ContextMenu DenonSerial FuzzyTime KidsPlay KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] StatusFirst plugin problem
This should be fixed in version 2.1.9 which I published today. StatusFirst was trying to do the right thing, but some time after LMS verison 7.4, the method it uses to show information (the showBriefly() client API) changed and required different usage for "Jive" players like Touch and Radio. So on Jive players StatusFirst prevented the status change but failed to display the current information. I've verified version 2.1.9 works again on a Radio and a touchscreen piCorePlayer, so I fully expect it would also work on a Touch. Do you maintain a persistent TCP connection or connect, send, process responses, and then disconnect? Because my AVR will eventually (usually pretty soon) respond to normal "?" query and other commands if I just disconnect my TCP connection to the serial port server. "Enable Amp Status Polling" is a configurable option (as is the frequency with which the amp is polled, and the frequency can be different for active** and inactive modes). Turn amp status polling off and it will still take action promptly when the LMS player volume or muting or power state changes -- LMS just won't recognize when somebody has used a Denon remote or the big volume knob to change the AVR volume. I rely heavily on polling personally just because there's some poltergeist in my home theater room repeating any Slim Devices code like crazy. I spent a day swapping out SB3s, covering reflective surfaces, etc., trying to identify what was IR-bombinng my player before giviing up, turning off IR remote processing for the SB3, and switching the universal remote to use the Denon IR commands. But I also often use a phone or tablet app to change the volume via LMS. BTW, I've been thinking more about experimenting with your plugin lately, too. I've had my AVR more than a decade but have only recently been considering using the Quick Select buttons, spurred by this long thread (which also got me to finally support muting, which I had abandoned and forgotten after doing half the required work years ago). -Peter ** For my plugin, "active" apparently*** means "has seen a recognized IR command recently" -- IIRC when I initially wrote this I saw that the SB3 recognized the raw IR command codes of some other devices (though it had no mapping so didn't act on any of them), and thought if the SB3 saw somebody interacting with someting like the TV, then it was pretty likley that somebody was in the room and more likley than usual that somebody would turn the AVR volume knob. *** There's nothing quite like reading old source code to figure out something you once knew but have completely forgotten! owner of the stuff at https://tuxreborn.netlify.app/ (which used to reside at www.tux.org/~peterw/) Note: The best way to reach me is email or PM, as I don't spend much time on the forums. *Free plugins:* AllQuiet Auto Dim/AutoDisplay BlankSaver ContextMenu DenonSerial FuzzyTime KidsPlay KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

In the > meantime, my question is: > > Have you ever experienced this problem? If you have, how often does it > happen and what is your AVR model? I've seen something similar, but far more frequently, sometimes just a small number of minutes apart and while the AVR was powered on. It's been so long since I dealt with this, but several versions back in my DenonSerial plugin I added logic to clear my command queue and close my TCP or serial connection for any given AVR if LMS had sent a command but had not seen a response in the last 10 seconds -- once that much time had elapsed, I knew not to expect a response. In January 2021, my 10 second timeout was reached only four times, and I think back then I had the same basic configuration as today, with LMS polling my AVR every 30 seconds (commands MV?, SI?, and PW? since I use the master zone). In previous months I've seen timeouts more frequently, but I expect that's because in the past I sent more commands (I used to control home theater volume by sending Slim Devices codes to my SB3 and relying on LMS + DenonSerial to relay those to the AVR, but now in the home theater our normal IR remote sends Denon commands and we rely on the every-30-second polling to let LMS know about the change.) Unfortunately I have not been logging the specific commands I've been sending, even in these hang situations. I'm using an AVR 2309CI which only has an RS232 port, so I have a Raspberry Pi running 'ser2net' on Raspbian to allow me to communicate with the AVR over basic TCP. owner of the stuff at https://tuxreborn.netlify.app/ (which used to reside at www.tux.org/~peterw/) Note: The best way to reach me is email or PM, as I don't spend much time on the forums. *Free plugins:* AllQuiet Auto Dim/AutoDisplay BlankSaver ContextMenu DenonSerial FuzzyTime KidsPlay KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Also recall I'm hijacking a bit here and discussing my plugin, in hopes that my experience w/ iPeng will help you all better support iPeng users with your plugin. (My plugin actually refuses to take any action unless the Squeezebox player volume is fixed at 100%.) The problem, it turns out, is that this is what would happen: * I use the iPeng slider to set the volume to 71/100. My plugin sends a command to the AVR like MV58 and all is well. * I double-tap the iPeng slider to mute. My plugin saw Squeezebox volume change to -71/100, treats that like 0/100, sends a command to the AVR like MV99 and all is well. * My plugin polls the AVR (sends MV?), gets a response of MV99, knows that means SB volume 0/100, so it updates the SB player volume pref to 0. (My plugin can be set to poll the AVR so that LMS sees changes made with the amp knob or other Denon interactions.) * iPeng sees the SB volume pref has changed from -71 to 0 and moves the slider handle to 0. In my upcoming release, when my code sees the AVR volume at 0 and a negative SB volume pref, it leaves the SB volume pref alone. With this change, iPeng 9 can toggle AVR muting. owner of the stuff at https://tuxreborn.netlify.app/ (which used to reside at www.tux.org/~peterw/) Note: The best way to reach me is email or PM, as I don't spend much time on the forums. *Free plugins:* AllQuiet Auto Dim/AutoDisplay BlankSaver ContextMenu DenonSerial FuzzyTime KidsPlay KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Under the covers it's setting the player volume to 0 when muting, which works (and which I like -- my old AVR has a relay clicking noise when you use the Denon MUON and MUOFF commands, but setting the volume to zero [99] with normal volume commands is silent). The iPeng volume slider handle remains in place, and double-tapping again restores the old player volume. (With my DenonSerial plugin, un-muting has a problem, which is that DenonSerial's periodic AVR polling causes iPeng to forget the old volume, so that you can't just double-tap to restore the old volume. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin
DAR, For Android, try the app Squeezer - it allows changing the Squeezebox volume when the SB output is fixed at 100%. Plays well with iPeng and my DenonSerial plugin. Have you tried my DenonSerial plugin? I've always been under the impression that Chris' AVP control was nicer, but if it's giving you trouble, you might want to give mine a try. As for the web UI softer button, I think my plugin might take a different approach because I don't think it has any such problem. IIRC (and I haven't touched the code much in the last decade), my plugin always deals with absolute volume levels so there's no square root of negative problem. E.G. my plugin allows others to decrease the fictional SB volume and then calculates what the Denon volume should be, and connects to the Denon to effect that. And yes the plugin name is a misnomer: it can connect to the Denon over TCP/IP (I use a Raspberry Pi with ser2net exposing the Denon RS232 port as a simple unencrypted TCP service.) How should I submit a patch for consideration? On IP3K players (Classic, Boom, etc.), PlayLog *does *add a menu to Extras which offers a "Songs played here" list of the last 50(?) songs. I never bothered to create a menu for Jive players (Touch, Radio, etc.) as I didn't use them as much back when I created PlayLog. Also it's not terribly useful: you can see the items and right-arrow to add them to the Log of songs played, but you can't Play a song again or Add it to the current playlist, or even see more details. And the timestamping could be more intelligent -- a string like "30:12:15m" indicating something as played 30 days, 12 hours, and 15 minutes isn't, I think, any more useful on the player than something like "30d12h" or maybe even "30d" would be. [SlimDevices: Plugins] wanted: Joggler-like Touch/Jive skin with larger fonts, for IR remote use (7" pCP)
Before I jump in and try to make a derivative of Jivelite's Joggler skin with larger fonts (or try to make pull request for adding font size options), has anybody released a Jive/Touch skin like Joggler that's remote-control friendly for 800x480 screens? My basic desire is to double the font size for the Joggler skin. This should make its text about the same size as is used by SB Touch in "remote" mode, and thanks to the larger display this should mean displaying about as much info on the 7" Jivelite player as SB Touch does in "touch" mode. (Of course what I'd *really* like is for Joggler skin on Jivelite on pCP to behave like SB Touch and use larger text when it has recently been controlled via IR codes. The current Joggler skin font size is great when the device is being controlled via touchscreen.) Thanks! [SlimDevices: Plugins] piCorePlayer: auto-save Jivelite settings periodically?
I just built my first touchscreen piCorePlayer and am looking for help. On one level I love the piCorePlayer design of running from RAM so that it's really tolerant of power problems. But I keep forgetting to SSH in or use the web UI to "backup" everything after doing things like adjusting the settings of Jivelite or an applet (hello, Custom Clock), so that I end up losing work & tweaks when pCP reboots. It seems likely you may need to compile the Perl serial module code if you're using direct serial and running LMS on something other than Windows - I switched years ago to the TCP connection, using a Raspberry Pi as a serial port server. http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Note: The best way to reach me is email or PM, as I don't spend time on the forums. *Free plugins:* AllQuiet Auto Dim/AutoDisplay BlankSaver ContextMenu DenonSerial FuzzyTime KidsPlay KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67182 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

tamanaco wrote: gharris, thanks for your reply... Is the code above for long press sleep or just for a short press sleep? IIRC, all Squeezebox IR remotes except for (some? all?) Boom remotes use the same scheme, and that is, keep sending the same IR code as long as the user is holding the button down. LMS has logic to treat the press as short if the player stops relaying IR code info to LMS fairly soon after the first code is sent. Some (all?) Boom remotes used a scheme whereby they'd send a button-specific IR code when the button was first pressed, and then for as long as the button continued to be pressed, they'd send a different IR code. That second IR code was the same for all buttons, and essentially was meant to tell Boom+LMS that the user hadn't stopped pressing the button yet. Technically, I think this ditto IR code (which I think was an industry standard) required less energy because it was shorter in length (fewer pulses of light), and therefore looked like a smart idea for a small remote with an expensive, disposable battery. I think Logi/SlimDevices at some point started building the Boom remotes to use the old school (non-ditto) behavior. Physical buttons on Boom (and Squeezebox Receiver) are treated differently -- the player sends LMS indication of both the button being pressed (down) and the button being released (up). AFAIK there's no way to trigger those messages with an IR code sent to the player's IR receiver. ... Anyway, I tried teaching the long press sleep command to my Harmony Smart Control and it didn't work because, as I was told, newer Harmony remotes have no raw learn capability. I'm trying to work with Logitech (Harmony) support to see if they can add this command to the profile for that device. 1) Really, a Harmony remote that can't learn? Sounds crazy. 2) Are there multiple Squeezebox devices in the Harmony database? Since all devices starting with at least the Squeezebox 1 support the same codes, you could try another device. (IIRC, the SliMP3 player responded to codes registered to another company, likely the JVC brand DVD codes that are also generally supported on older players by LMS out of the box. You could look at the .map and .ir files for LMS, but I don't believe LMS recognizes a JVC sleep code.) 3) If you can't customize a Harmony remote, take a look at the world of JP1 programmable remotes. One For All used to have nice options, but it looks like nowadays many people resort to reprogramming Comcast's set top box remote controls since they're cheap, plentiful, and apparently support JP1 programming. In a couple of my rooms I've been using OFA JP1 remotes for years, with very good results. 4) For use with LMS, you might be able to program the Harmony remote to send some other recognizabled IR code (one of those JVC DVD codes would be good) and modify the .map (?) file for LMS to have it treated as a sleep button. Sorry, my memory is really fuzzy here. But basically the old IP3K players like Boom recognize most IR codes (but not all, like they don't understand Denon's) and will relay info to LMS for most IR codes. So it's likely you can use the .map/.ir files to have LMS recognize a non-Squeezebox IR code as a sleep IR code. Neither of those is really tested (my queue hasn't hung since I added that code). If the hung queue detection tries to do something, you'll see a log entry like no response seen from amp in at least 10, clearing its items from queue (yes, I forgot to add seconds to that message). Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] DenonSerial plugin thread
I have the same trouble occasionally -- the plugin doesn't see the expected response and its queue gets hung. Restarting SBS/LMS fixes it. I've been meaning to add code to detect clear hung queues, but haven't gotten around to it -- probably because this only happens to me once every 6-8 weeks. That's with TCP connections to a Raspberry Pi acting as a serial port server (as described in my edited first post for this thread). Prior to the Pi, I was using $ software on an Atom nettop running Windows 7. The queue hung noticeably more frequently with that setup. My Denon is an old one that has RS232 but no Ethernet (looks like pretty much all the current CI receivers have Ethernet now) -- so I can't test the native Denon networking interface. I suspect anyone with Ethernet on a Denon would be better off with Chris' AVP Control plugin, as it uses HTTP and is probably much less likely to have such trouble. I'll certainly post here if/when I get hung queue code that I think should work. http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Note: The best way to reach me is email or PM, as I don't spend time on the forums. *Free plugins:* AllQuiet Auto Dim/AutoDisplay BlankSaver ContextMenu DenonSerial FuzzyTime KidsPlay KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67182 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

You're probably better off focusing on the SqueezePlay code that runs on Touch -- on patching it so that Touch treats those codes differently. With its 100% server/LMS focus, KidsPlay is at a real disadvantage for Touch and Radio. First, those devices will often take some local action that KidsPlay, at best, can reverse. For instance, Radio's preset buttons would turn the device on and then send a command to LMS. Anyone who wanted his Radio to remain in its old power state when a preset button triggered a KidsPlay action was out of luck. The IR interface is one-way (SBS, plugins, and applets can't determine how loud the amp already is) and crude -- all you can send are Volume Up and Volume Down commands (and some sort of Mute command -- serial/TCP allow discrete Mute On and Mute Off, but I don't know about Denon's IR codes). -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60114 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin
I don't know what features you need -- Chris' plugin is more advanced than mine -- but if you can stand only having power and volume sync, you might be able to use my DenonSerial for one amp and Chris' plugin for the other [I'd probably switch to Chris' plugin but I'm too lazy to add 1) my logic for respecting IR volume commands when my SB3 is off and 2) integrating with my custom MusicInfoScr saver that displays the volume in terms of the Denon's gain level]. DenonSerial should work fine with two different amps with two different IP addresses, though I haven't tested that. Myself, I just use it with a single amp that gets an IP address only by virtue of software running on an HTPC connected to its RS232 port. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Amp RS232 plugin
If you don't use MySqueezebox.com, then the events are pretty easy to trap in Squeezebox Server plugins. You might even simply be able to use my DenonSerial plugin in subscribe mode and have your applet subscribe to the messages DenonSerial sends. E.G. when the amp needs to come on, DenonSerial will send a message indicating that PWON needs to be sent; when the amp should go off, DenonSerial indicates PWSTANDBY. Would you mind sharing your code? I had always intended/hoped to write an applet companion for DenonSerial that would leverage DenonSerial's subscribe model to allow a cheap Prolific or FTDI serial adapter to connect a Touch to an amp, but never got around to it... -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85012 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Have you plugged in any new electrical devices lately? Moved any circuits (e.g. so that your amp and CM11A are on different sides of your breaker box)? I had noticed that I needed previously to run chmod a+rw /dev/ttyS0 on server startup to get things working again, though there were no permissions errors in the logs I could see, but nothing has been changed as far as I'm aware since the power cycle this morning - prior to which it was all working fine. You should get a does not exist or is not usable error from PowerCenter if the permissions were not right. If I check the running processes, there is an entry for heyu_relay thats seems to hang about - is this correct or is it hanging for some reason? That sounds right. Any more ideas of where to look? I'd start with trying to get heyu working outside PowerCenter/SBS. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Help getting PowerCenter working again after 7.5.1 u/g
My first guess is that the problem is due to the change in Unix usernames. 7.3 was SqueezeCenter, but 7.5 is Squeezebox Server. I don't run the packaged versions of the software (and in fact still run 7.3 in production, though I have 7.4, 7.5, and 7.6 on my test/dev system), but did the Unix user account that's used for SBS change from 'squeezecenter' to 'squeezeboxserver' or something? I expect you have a heyu/heyu_relay process still running with the old SC 7.3 user, and that's preventing the SBS 7.5 user account from sending commands properly. Your device permissions are probably fine, or PowerCenter would have complained about that. The fix should be as simple as stopping/killing any running heyu/heyu_relay processes so that the next time PowerCenter needs to invoke it, it will start a heyu_relay process running as the new SBS user account. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81105 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The KidsPlay min max don't apply to changes made with Radio's volume knob. If you want to set a maximum volume that applies to the knob, you can mostly do that with VolumeLock. VolumeLock doesn't completely prevent Radio being turned too loud with the knobs on Radio or an IR remote pointed at Radio, but if someone turns the volume above the VolumeLock max, VolumeLock will pretty quickly turn the volume back down to your max setting. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79688 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Is there a way to get IRBlaster to react to another Duet Controller button? IIRC, IR Blaster provides CLI commands for sending IR codes, so I'd suggest something like an SBS plugin that provides a Jive/Controller/Squeezeplay interface for changing sources. Select a source from this new menu on Controller and your new plugin would execute IR Blaster CLI commands to send commands to the HK. You could also write this as an applet running on Controller, using Lua code on Controller to send the IR Blaster CLI command via Comet. I think a plugin makes more sense (an applet by default would show the choice even if you were using MySqueezebox.com, in which case it wouldn't work), but the biggest issue is probably whether you'd rather write Perl or Lua code. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79254 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

You may need to unpack the source (the .par file is basically a .zip file) and modify it. IMO, the SB receiver would be an ideal unit to hide away in a closet with an integrated amp or receiver but is a non-starter since it has no equivalent functionality to IR blaster. With the requirement to purchase a Global Cache or Sena unit AND a SB Touch, I start to question whether the cost is worth it. Replacing the GC-100 or Sena with the SB Touch plus USB to serial adapter is a big step in the right direction. I think there is a fair amount of interest in these sort of extensions -- Logitech staff have even admitted publicly that omitting IR Blasting capability from Receiver was a mistake. (But I don't know how to reconcile that with Touch repeating the mistake; maybe they're really embarcing Apple's 80% design mantra.) I've been looking again at Lua coroutine information, and it really looks like it shouldn't be too hard to make it work, at least for DenonSerial -- I just have to overcome the inertia of having not yet written an applet. I think it would also be very cool to offer something for Touch that would turn Touch into a replacement for a Sena LS-100 -- that is, something that would act as a TCP-to-serial bridge and not care what sort of RS232 device was connected; unfortunately it looks like that would need to be a standalone application and not merely a Squeezebox applet, due to the design of the Lua network socket APIs. Since Logitech doesn't include the standard Lua interpreter on Touch, it would need to nbe compiled code, and I've never much liked setting up cross-compiling environments (and have enjoyed taking a break from C and C++ code). Finally, it would be cool to have a 100% applet version of DenonSerial so Touch would retain control over the amp even if using its internal server or MySqueezebox.com. But I haven't been terribly motivated because I don't need those sorts of things myself. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67182 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

You'll probably want to apply my patch for bug 16188 to make it work well. And you'll need to figure out how to make privileged commands like shutdown work, since SBS does not run as root. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78516 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

It sounds like first thing in the morning Radio does not realize that SBS has returned, and myabe this behavior was better in 7.4. [SlimDevices: Plugins] How to install 3rd-party plugins for SB Touch's Squeezebox Server instance
Note: this isn't supported by Logitech, and won't survive firmware updates. Also some plugins won't work -- some won't load in Touch's SBS instance because they assume the Web UI will be available and blindly try to call APIs that aren't available on Touch; others may have architectural dependencies (for instance, my DenonSerial plugin on Linux requires a compiled version of the Device::SerialPort Perl module, and does not bundle a copy compiled for the Touch/ARM architecture). Many plugins, especially older plugins, cannot be fully configured without the Web interface. Also, there is *very* little free RAM on Touch -- the device only has 128 MB of RAM, and I've seen it use about 115-125 MB to run the built-in Squeezebox Server instance alongside the normal Touch player software. Some plugins might need more than the 5-10 MB of unallocated RAM that is available on Touch. Push it too far and Touch will crash/reboot. There doesn't seem to be any easy way to create a page/swap file to give you some breathing room (at the expense of performance). If you really want an ultra-lower power, compact server, you're probably better off with a SheevaPlug -- since about half of Touch's memory is need for the player software (jive and jive-alsa) and SheevaPlug has twice the installed RAM, it should be a much better server platform. Caveat hacker. What you'll need: - 'Squeezebox Touch' (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LARRDA?ie=UTF8tag=petesstuf-20linkCode=as2camp=1789creative=390957creativeASIN=B002LARRDA) (note: Amazon affiliate code shamelessly embedded in URL) - A computer for copying the plugin to Touch. - For that computer, an SCP client program like WinSCP for Windows - For that computer, a Telnet client (Windows, Mac, Linux all include command-line Telnet clients) What to do: - Download the plugin's zip file. If the author hasn't provided an easy way to find the link, you may need to examine some Squeezebox Server repository XML files. Logitech hosts a few on MySqueezebox.com: 'Logitech extensions' (http://test.mysqueezebox.com/public/plugins/logitech.xml), 'Recommended extensions' (http://test.mysqueezebox.com/public/plugins/repository.xml), and 'Other 3rd-party extensions' (http://test.mysqueezebox.com/public/plugins/other.xml). Here's the XML for my current VolumeLock plugin (the latest version of the first plugin I ever wrote, finishing it before I even received my Squeezebox): Code: plugin name=VolumeLock creator=Watkins, Peter email=pet...@tux.org link=http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html; maxTarget=7.* minTarget=7.0 sha=144a84253a1e1dc7b97b06bc80cc7d831c0542e7 url=http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/slim7/VolumeLock/VolumeLock-2.1.15.zip; version=2.1.15 changes lang=EN 2.1.15: fixed volume unmuting in 7.4/Radio; 2.1.14: more 7.4 fixes, new approach for Radio and Touch; 2.1.12: initial fixes for 7.4, but do NOT try to lock or cap the volume of a Touch or Radio (or Controller)! /changes desc lang=EN Allows you to lock the analog and digital output levels of any Squeezebox, Transporter, or SliMP3. Can either prevent any changes in volume, or simply set a maximum volume. (Boom, Classic, Radio, Receiver, Slimp3, SoftSqueeze, Squeezebox1, Touch, Transporter) /desc title lang=ENVolumeLock/title /plugin The plugin tag tells you it's a plugin (and not an applet, wallpaper image, etc.) The url attribute of that first plugin tag tells you where my zip file is (the minTarget says it should work on Squeezebox Server 7.0 or newer, and maxTarget says it should work on any 7.x version. Touch runs SBS 7.5, so this plugin is a good candidate. - Unzip the zip file on your computer. You should end up with a directory with the plugin's name (e.g. VolumeLock). The directory will have an install.xml file and some other content, possibly other subdirectories. - Make sure remote login is enabled for your Touch. On Touch itself, use Home Settings Advanced Remote login and check the Enable SSH box. - Use your SSH client to log in to your Touch (use Home Settings Advanced Diagnostics to find the IP address for your Touch) - Use your SCP client to copy the unzipped folder to the /usr/squeezecenter/Plugins directory on Touch (so you should end up with a new directory on Touch like /usr/squeezecenter/Plugins/VolumeLock). - On Touch, use Home Settings Advanced Squeezebox Server and stop Touch's SBS instance. Wait patiently for it to stop. - On Touch, use Home Settings Advanced Squeezebox Server and start Touch's SBS instance. Wait patiently for it to start. - With your SCP client, browse to /etc/squeezecenter/prefs on Touch. You should now see a folder named plugin or plugins and inside that you should see a file named after the plugin you just installed, e.g. VolumeLock.prefs. - I would suggest you go
