I'm using Spotty on my two Classics. I have several playlists in
Spotify, and I want to play them in shuffle mode. I can't see a way to
do that, either with my remote and a Classic, or with iPeng and a
Classic. I suspect I'm missing something obvious, but I'd be grateful if
someone can point me in the right direction. I really don't want to hear
my playlists in the order I saved them originally!

So 7.9.1 runs quite OK - but the newer 7.9.2 are unusable (for me)

So what I see that you do not use a "real" Squeezebox (but shouldn't
malke that big difference).
What I already wrote is that is it works here perfectly with only one
Player ! it only happens with a second one syncronized
I can show you over teamviewer if you like..
I do not see anything special in the logs - as the Server do not really
crash - but is resposing very very slow due to the many opened exes...

https://open.spotify.com/user/krethom/playlist/5ARULILbR8hJXHYYtqo2uf?si=4YsAI9S1QfeGrrOxIZQMUg

this is really getting me nuts i do not understand it but it seem that
for the already played songs in the list a single spotty.exe is started

So... I:

- installed the latst nightly 7.9 on an up to date Windows 10
- installed Squeezelite-X
- installed Spotty
- configured my own client_id to get access to the full playlist
- set the maximum playlist size for LMS to 5000
- played the list on that squeezelite instance
- connected another player and synced the two
- jumped to track 302 in the list

It would just play. Nothing special.

Could you please summarize the issue, what you tried so far, working
versions etc. as I fear I missed some detail in the dozen or so messages...

I'm back and did a few new Tests - I think I found a pattern - it only
happens with my very large Playlist form spotfiy (2700 entries) and if
the list is running at playing #100 or higher from that list .
Then it happens.. (also tried with the latest spotty and LMS from
20.06.2019)

This is getting even weirder... would you mind sharing that playlist
with me?

Thanks - the players are always synced (so usually I do not change it )
It doesn't matter if something is playing or not - but mainly it happens
when something (on spotify) is already playing and the synced Duet is
turned on.
Without the Duet in the sync group it is working..
I will not be able to do some more test for the next two weeks - as we
are on vacation...
I will enable the logging when I return and send it to you...
thanks again for all your efforts so far...

I'm running out of ideas... I have no clue how that change would cause
what you're seeing!

A few questions:
- is something playing on the Receiver before you sync it?
- is something queued up on the Receiver (other tracks, but paused)
before you sync it?

- would it make a difference it there was no track in the queue?

Could you please enable logging for formats.playlists and try again.
Then send me your server.log.zip

Ok, the only change which has to do with streaming is around fade-in.
Could you please play with those settings (turn all off etc.) to see
whether this makes any difference?

--

Michael

I do not use Fade-in - also played here a little bit around but makes no
difference.
I think I have to give up here - I do not understand it at all...
What I use: I have a Classic,Radio,Duet and Touch running syncronized and
a Boom running stand alone.
When I update and the Duet is not synced with the others then it's
working. Then I also can add it to the Group again.
But when I restart the whole window machine it happens again.
I have really no idea. Thanks for your suppport but I think I have to
except that there is no solution in sight...

Hello Michael,

I'm sorry but I'm not claiming it I know it ...
I already wrote three times that 7.9.1 is working and also older nigtly
builds (e.g. the one I use right now is from March this year..)
It is very easy to prove here on my system - I install a new one --> not
working. Installing an old one --> working.
No changes due to my configuraration AV Scannner or Windows system at
that time...
I see also that this is not a general problem (and if I have my
Duet powered off it is working with newer nightlies LMS with my four
other devices..)

My idea was to test with which nightly build this started to happen (on
my system) to give me (or you) an idea what might cause that

best regards Tom

So why don't you try 7.9.1? You keep claiming LMS was at fault, but
refuse to prove it. And given the number of happy latest LMS & Spotty
users out there I'm pretty sure it must be something else about your
system. Eg. a Windows update, or an AV scanner update or whatever.

LMS is not fine for me ... So there must be something in combination
with a squeezebox duet and spotty and the lastest LMS ...
I also ansered your last question - I did change here form ogg to flac
and PCM - it didn't change at all.
As the servers crashes just rigth after the starting (when Duet is
on)...

Ok, forget it. LMS is fine.

Change Spotty settings to stream PCM or FLAC instead of Ogg
(Settings/Advanced/File Formats).

Hi
insalled today teh latest Server from 20.05 --> still crashed.
I found that it only happens with my Squeezebox Duet. So what I did I
reinstalled the Firmware of it (although it was the same) and I also
re-installed the spotty Plugin --> now it's working ! Same settings as
before. I still do not understand that but I'm glad it's working now.
Thx for the help and tipps

sorry - didn't help same behaviour when spotty only used flac.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.6.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2019-05-14 Thread CDTom

Hello Michael,

it seem to be tricky.
There is nothing due to that in the log ! (only starting entry)
As a security software I only use the windows integrated Defender and
Firewall (no changes there at all)
With the version from 04.05 - that is the first where I noticed that
(Maybe I missed one before)

I also found out it happens when the syncronised squeezebox Duet is on.

The many spotty.exe and sockerwrapper.exe are then also started after a
reboot of windows (and then you can only kill the LMS-Server with the
taskmanager)

I also tried the version available since yesterday
LogitechMediaServer-7.9.2-1557815622  --> same Problem

What works is of course 7.9.1 and LogitechMediaServer-7.9.2-1552283404
(from March). (I couldn't find the older nighlty builds - so I cannot
tell you excatly when it started to happen)

2019-05-14 Thread Michael Herger

The problem started with the verison before (from 04.may).

But that build introduced nothing but updated Dutch translations. These
certainly did not break Spotty...

There are thousands of active Spotty users every day. I'm pretty sure
that if LMS or Spotty introduce an issue as you describe it, I'd have
had much more feedback by now. Please double-check your configuration.
Would you have some security application breaking communication between
some of the LMS components? Can you really go back and forth between
what you are running now and the latest, and one would work but not the
other?

Hello Michael,

first of all I'd like to thank you for that great Plugin ! I use it
everyday ;-)
now to my current Problem:
I cannot use the last two nightly builds of 7.9.2 (e.g the last one
LogitechMediaServer-7.9.2-1557613967.exe).
When I run spotty on one of my devices and then power on a second one
that is syncronised with that one the Server starts many many (up to 50
!) spotty.exe and socketwarpper.exe until it is not respoding anymore.
I use the Server on a Win10 machine.
I double cheked that and it must be something that has been changed in
teh Server software.
Now I use an older Version and it works fine.
Does anyone else have that problem ?

best regards
Tom

So I have abandoned LMS in a container and useda QNAP deployment from
QNAPclub (www.qnapclub.eu/en/repo.xml) in both locations. Everything now
works fine - no obvious problems, thank you
Not a great first flirtation with QNAP's Docker implementation. ;)

Thanks Michael. Yes the speeds are different and so are the ISPs. The
hardware (except the disk drives) and the LMS images are identical
installs - but who knows there may be some minor differences. Internet
radio works fine (never had a problem with it but have checked anyway).

The country itself wouldn't make any difference. But it's two different
Docker hosts, two different networks (router, firewall etc.), two
different ISPs. That's already a lot of variables. Docker itself has

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.6.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2019-01-08 Thread Hayrickshaw

Hi
I have Spotty installed on two LMS servers, one with a "fast" (70Mbps)
internet link and one with a "slow" (2Mbps) link. Both servers are
running justifiably's docker image of LMS 7.9. On the "fast" instance
everything works beautifully (thank you). On the "slow" instance, Spotty
always fails authentication; if I try to play an audio stream on LMS it
never makes it. I can redirect the stream to other devices on the same
subnet (e.g. an Amazon Fire stick) with no problem.
Inputting my login details on the Settings/Advanced/Spotty page does not
help.
Could this be a timeout problem? Any suggestions?

PS the "slow" instance is in France while the "fast" instance is in the
UK; I don't believe that should make a difference (the Fire stick is in
France too!) but thought I should mention it.

I think on balance an upgrade to VB2.4 is overdue so will do that.
Having checked on the VB forum it appears the Linux Fedora build (23)
that ships with that is EOL, so will have to run a few commands to get
Fedora 25. While I'm at it

My system is a Vortexbox, still at 2.3 as I didn't think my aging
Celeron laptop was supported by 2.4 (I have since read it can be done
but as the system has been working, haven't bothered).

VB 2.3 is known not to work with the spotty helper binary due to an

There has been a problem running the Spotty helper application.

Okay i think i finally solved this.

As described befotre i have 2 Players running piCorePlayer. I enable on
one Player the LMS and also activate the Spotty Plugin.
I uninstalled the LMS that was on the dedicated server after that.

Now i can see the Spotty Connect for all Family account members.

So i found a workaround not realy a solution.

Okay, i checked the server an the clients, no avahi is installed or
running.

Then i remove all created accounts ( i had to create them manually with
username + password).
After that i restarted LMS and tried to connect from Spottify App with
the Spotify Plugin as described in the Plugin page.

I can not see the "Spotty Authentication", so i am not able to connect
to the Plugin.

Attached you will find the server log (with spotty loglevel "DEBUG").

Hi, I did refer to spottiy lugin.
strangwise plugin is not available as spotty but when I use spotify
still spotty, - follow the login and device enabling procedure, it is
available.

Maybe I did not realize the "spotify still spotty plugin" is spotty
2.6

maybe you can rename the plugin that the version is visible and spotty

All these three questions boil down to the same one question: can I
stream to a Connect endpoint not configured for myself?

The answer is: it depends...

If the spotty helper app is able to announce itself in the network, this
should work without switching accounts etc. But if it isn't able to
broadcast its announcements, then you'd see what you're seeing. Most
likely you're running avahi or some other service conflicting with
Spotty.

Question for anyone: is direct play now supported on Windows? (i.e open
spotify on my phone, then direct it to play on a squeezebox)

Yes, Spotify Connect is as well supported on Windows as on other platforms.

As for the format: there's a trade-off between bandwidth and CPU usage.
Streaming PCM would put less processing on the server, but roughly use
twice the bandwidth. FLAC uses less bandwidth, but requires processing
on the server. Alas, as FLAC encoding is pretty fast, this is the
default on most platforms. Even a Raspberry Pi can easily handle it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.6.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-12-31 Thread dwc

Just wanted to share my personal setup experience. My wife finally
talked me into spotify premium last night, so today I went to see if I
could play spotify on the squeezebox, and found my way here.

My setup is a bunch of outdated dusty crap. I run slimserver off of
obsolete, broken laptops in the basement.
- windows 7 professional N . (not very updated)
- LMS 7.9.0

I hit two snags on enabling spotty (2.6) on my old system:

[1] missing "vcruntime140.dll"
Resolved by installing MS Visual C++ 2015 runtime ('as noted back on the
1.1.0 announce post'

[2] missing "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll"
Resolved by installing the specific 'MS KB 2999226'
(https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226) needed.

These two dependencies have me up and running. Hope this might help
someone else.

Question for anyone: is direct play now supported on Windows? (i.e open
spotify on my phone, then direct it to play on a squeezebox)

Thanks to MHERGER and Happy New Year!

Just copy/paste the full paths to the binaries as found in your log file
(and re-posted in my previous message) in a shell and hit enter. That
would execute them. Or, if you've navigated to the folder, type
"./spotty" etc. to tell it to run it from the current folder.

And while you're in that folder: what would "ls -l" tell you about those
files?

Is this piCorePlayer, or your own piCore installation?

Please go to Settings/Advanced/Logging, check the "keep settings on

to INFO. Then save and restart LMS. Once done, upload your
server.log.zip to https://www.dropbox.com/request/T3RctyzGgNg0oFDubq6a.

/usr/local/slimserver/Bin/armhf-linux

You could also try to run all of the binaries found in that folder from
a shell. What would that give?

I thought maybe you recognized that track playback status uses RTC
timestamp or something. That might explain the behaviour I experienced.

I have no idea how the API works. It might be an idea for people
experiencing strange problems to check if the time was correct on all
devices involved.
Spotty behaviour is spottless here now. Thanks for keeping the plugin up
to date.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.6.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-12-28 Thread ustinov

Hi Michael

I had a problem with tracks not starting at the beginning on my setup
that appears to be related to the time on different devices in my
setup.
I have an ODROID XU4Q running Dietpi, LMS 7.9.1, Spotty 2.6.6 and
Squeezelite. When I start a track from the Spotify app in connect mode
on my iPad Air the track often starts up to 35 seconds into the track.
Also when I go to the next or previous track.
The number of seconds it skips is constant from track to track, but can
be different from day to day. The problem will be gone ( for a while)
when I reboot the ODROID. Restarting LMS does not help.

Tracks do start at the beginning when I use chromecast on my NVIDIA
Shield from Spotify app or when I play through spotty from the LMS web
interface. (Only ODROID device involved).

The ODROID was set to emulate a hardware RTC and only sync time once a
day and at boot time. When I enabled the built in hardware RTC and
ntpdaemon drift compensation the problem disappeared!
Problems with the app sometimes showing different tracks than were
actually playing or spotty no longer responding to the app have also not
occured since then.

If I turn off ntp and set the ODROID time 30-60s in advance I get a
different behaviour: when I start a track the progress in the Spotify
iPad app stays at zero while the music is playing. When I pause and
restart a track the progress barr jumps around. I have not tested this
extensively.

Could differences in RTC time on different devices cause this type of
behaviour,( and possibly also problems other users are reporting)? I
understand the RPi does not have a hardware clock and relies on software
RTC emulation.

This seems to happen because the name of the output changes inside
Spotify to list the linked players. Could it be that changing the name
actually creates a new device thus disconnecting playback?

Spotify wouldn't rely on the name. But yes, syncing might change the
playback targets, as Spotty tries to only expose the groups, not the
individual players.

2018-12-23 Thread Gobuleberbu

Hi Michael!

I just found a little bug here. When adding a synced squeezelite player
during playback, squeezebox will continue playing the song but will
detach from Spotify connect. The cached song will be played until the
end then it will stop the playback since the lms playlist is empty.
This seems to happen because the name of the output changes inside
Spotify to list the linked players. Could it be that changing the name
actually creates a new device thus disconnecting playback?

This happens with latest lms, under latest max2play, with latest plugin,
with ipeng, lms classic and material interface.

Have a great holiday season

I had serious playback problems starting today:
Running Raspberry Pi3, Spotty 2.6.6, latest Logitech Media Server
Version: 7.9.2 - 1545144292.

The music stopped after 1 or 2 songs, so i fiddled a little bit with the
plugin, but now I cannot get it to work again. So I did a bit of an
investigation on this forum, cleared /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache
checked the server.log:

Code:

Plugins::Spotty::API::_gotTokenResponse (179) Failed to get Spotify access
token: malformed JSON string, neither array, object, number, string or atom, at
character offset 0 (before "error getting token ...") at

  error getting token MercuryError

to get Spotify access token

Tried to authenticate manual: by putting in username/password in the
plugin, by using the 'Spotty Authentication' on my iPhone's App.

Still no success. Any other tips/hints?

This morning it seems to work again, I'm puzzled.
I still get 5-7 lines per second of these

Are you using the Material skin? Any other client? 5-7x per second is a
lot. It's usually shown whenever a client is asking for a metadata
update. I know that Material does poll once a second. But not 5x...

Anyway: turn off spotty logging, and those messages will go away. I'll
probably town them down in a future release.

Would you be playing the same track in both cases? Or could the track be

Could you also check memory usage when streaming? Assuming you're

it's worth the check anyway.

restarting LMS doesn't change anything, nor does restarting pCP.
I can play one song at a time from the LMS web gui. But I can't run a

But the above log lines keep flooding in.

I'm happy to inform you that after a full upgrade of QNAP OS + Docker to

It's a great app that you have created.
And it's almost unbelievable that LMS whose foundations were laid almost
