Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2020-06-17 Thread Michael Herger

Using Spotty plugin 4.1.2.

This thread is about Spotty 2.8...

I have a family spotify account and my children are registered using
their own spotify accounts linked to my spotify family account.

Unfortunately none of my children's devices can see any of the playback
devices working via the Spotty plugin. They can only see the Denon which
has the native spotify support.

That would happen if your LMS wasn't able to announce players in your
network. See Settings/Advanced/Spotty - there's an option which would
disable local announcements. If that's set automatically, then there's
some incompatibility with another application on your LMS machine.

Please post any follow-up message to the appropriate thread. I'm going
to close this one.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2020-06-17 Thread san9jay

Thank you for developing the fantastic Spotty plugin.

I am using the Latest version available of LMS 8.0.0 - 1591685001 on
windows 10
Using Spotty plugin 4.1.2.

I have a Squeezebox boom, two raspberry Pi0 running Picoreplayer 6.x and
a Denon-DRA800H amplifier.
The Denon has native Spotify support the other devices are enabled for
spotify using the Spotty plugin on LMS.

I have a spotify premium account and i had enabled that account on the
Spotty plugin and it all works well for my devices using my spotify
account.
When i use the spotify app on my laptop or phone all the devices are
visible and work fine.

I have a family spotify account and my children are registered using
their own spotify accounts linked to my spotify family account.

Unfortunately none of my children's devices can see any of the playback
devices working via the Spotty plugin. They can only see the Denon which
has the native spotify support.

I tried to add their accounts on the spotty plugin but that did not
help. The spotty plugin help says that an authorization will show up on
the spotify app, however that never happened using spotify on mac osx,
spotify on android or spotify on ios.

Any ideas?

Sanjay

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2020-04-30 Thread MarkV74

Hi,

Using Spotty v4.0.3 and ARM6/7 helper v0.12 with Pinkdot's 7.9.2 on a
DS212+ (that's a lot of information in one sentence ;) ). Everthing
works fine but i can't get Spotify Connect working. My player isn't
visible on Androids, iPhones and Spotify app on Windows 10.

Server.log says only this:
[20-04-30 15:21:29.5542]
Plugins::Spotty::Connect::Daemon::_checkStartTimes (118) The spotty
helper has crashed 3 times within less than 5 minutes - disable local
announcement of the Connect daemon.

I think this local announcement is disabeled (box is ticked on 'Don't
announce Squeezebox players running in Spotify Connect mode in your
network. Check this option if you don't want your Spotify Connect
enabled Squeezebox player to show up in all Spotify apps in your
network.' in Advanced > Spotty. But isn't this exactly the reason why i
can't see the player?

It used to work, can't tell you exactly what changed, not a lot i
guess...

Thanks in advance!
Mark

I have uploaded the log file.
The only thing that has been "changed" is that a google home device is
added to the network which also uses spotify. though i have unplugged
the device because i thought it might interfere with spotty... nothing
else has changed.

I've indeed been working on a new build which unfortunately likely will
remove the Ogg direct option again. The librespot don't seem to be

Noticed when I updated to Spotty v3.99.10 in 'File Types' 'Ogg Vorbis'
is disabled, Spotty playback now always converts to flac on my setup (as
in 'File Types' I have 'Spotty FLAC' enabled) not just when I've
scrolled part way through a track. If I revert to v.3.99.9 Ogg Vorbis
file type becomes available again.
Not a problem at all, still listening to the music just thought I would
report. I'm using PCP v6.0.0 as server and player and latest LMS 8.

Would Squeezer respond to other actions, like browsing content? Would

Does other artwork show, eg. from radio stations? Please check your

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2020-02-16 Thread Michael Herger
Spotty indeed does not read the liked songs list, but only liked albums.
Therefore I would say not seeing albums with only a few songs is
expected behaviour.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2020-02-16 Thread skind56

Hi

In Spotify in the Artists tab, under an artist, I only see my liked
songs for each album. Under Albums tab I only see albums where all songs
are liked. This is how I’ve setup Spotify behaviour for my old fashioned
way of looking at my music!

In Spotty under Albums I see the aforementioned Spotify albums.
In Spotty under Artists if I choose an artist with an Album in Spotify
then the first choice, in the subsequent options list, is Albums and
choosing this then displays the album that is listed in Spotify under
Albums. It does not however show the other albums where not all songs
are liked and this is my issue. Is this the expected behaviour?

Probably the same issue is where I choose an artist that does not have
any albums in Spotify under Albums then the Artists option is not
displayed in Spotty, the first option being Top Tracks.

Sorry I realise the above sounds complicated but I’ve tried to explain
as best I can. If you can decipher the above and can help with
suggestions in either Spotify or Spotty to resolve my issue then I’d be
very grateful.

Thanks
Steve

I'm having some trouble getting Spotty to play well on my Raspberry Pi.
What is the default sample rate on Spotty (44100?) and if so can I
change it to 48000 as a default?

I think it's 44100 and can't be changed.

Hi,

is there a way to prevent the songs heard via the RP plug-in to be
scrobbled to last.fm? There is an option to not scrobble for internet
radios, but seems this doesn't exclude Spotty.

Thanks,

Hi All.

Config:
Using: raspberry pi with LMS and Squeezeplayer and two squeeze radio's.
Setup: only need internetradio and Spotify

I have a issue and that is when i switch from device (iphone) to Imac or
Tablet the volume will be set to 50 %.
I did a lot of reading and found this:

(i was not able to post the link i found because this is my first reply
here)

And yes when mark "Don't announce Squeezebox players" it is solved but
then i do not see my devices in spotify any more.

Does any one has a idea how to solve this.

I think I know the answer to this but I will ask to be sure. I have my
desktop configured to play local files. They are added to playlists,
and these playlists are shared and marked for download. I was under the
impression that these local files would show up in the Spotify Connect
stream and could be played through Spotty. It doesn't seem to be the
case. Does anyone have any thoughts or is this not possible? Thanks.

Playing local files through Spotify doesn't work with Spotty. I wouldn't

I'm using Spotty v2.8.7 and Spotty Helper Application For FreeBSD 11.
(v0.20.0) in a jail on a FreeNAS server in Logitech Media Server
Version: 7.9.2 - TRUNK @ UNKNOWN.

Spotty recently started offering me "Your Daily Drive" which mixes
segments of NPR content intermixed with music. When I try to listen to
it via Spotty the NPR content is silence and things seem to hang up, but
if/when I skip forward to the music it plays happily until the next bit
of NPR content.

I also just tried listening to a podcast via Spotify for the first time,
intending to pass it to spotty, but under "Devices Available" the entry
for my LMS/Spotty devices says "Can't play this right now".

Thanks Michael. I've attached an extract from the log, from when
'uploading' a new file with folder structure, and then when going into
Spotty to browse the list of playlists.

I also tried the modified version, it gave the output:

-C:\tmp\spottyTest>findSpotifyFolderFiles.exe
Searching 'C:\Users\micke\AppData\Local\Spotify\Storage' for playlist
information...
Found:
C:\Users\micke\AppData\Local\Spotify\Storage\da\da59ccd6915663b1d6cd44237aae49164e22dea6.file:
59501
Done.-

So just to clarify, it does show the structure, but there are parts
missing. Folders as well as the lists in those folders.

Regards Micke

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2019-11-08 Thread mykee

I'm using the feature to get the Spotify 'folder' structure into the
Spotty navigation. I have now rearranged my playlists and folders a bit,
which seems to have confused Spotty. There are some folders as well as
some lists missing, not to be found when browsing the playlists through
Spotty. I went into the Spotty settings to clear the stored spolity
folder info. I did expect that the folder structure in the browsing
would dissapear but it did not. I did run the findSpotifyFolders utility
which ran successfully again. But still no success. I moved around some
playlists, created a new folder, put both new and old lists in it. And
these updates including the new folders are showing. But still there are
some folders as well as lists still missing. Any list missing is in a
folder missing.

Any idea on what I could try next to try to resolve?

I dont disable the second option in the extended spotty settings now.
But now I don't see a squeezebox player in the spotify menu.

Wat else can I do?

You could give the third of those options a try (to monitor the
connection to the Spotify servers).

>From my own experience: when I use my Android-phone (AP) to play Spotify
I usually don't "see" my LMS-player until I select a song and start
playing (connections are not visible). Then I go to the left corner and
click on the connection icon and see the LMS-player and start to
connect. Sometimes it takes 10-20 seconds before the connection is made
and the music is played via LMS-spotty. Sometimes it does not appear
at-all and I need to restart LMS (which may trigger a broadcast which is
then seen by Spotify on the AP). Then I repeat the same sequence as
described before. This usually does the trick.

When I use Spotify on my Windows-laptop the connection-icon usually
shows my LMS-player directly. Also connecting goes much faster compared
to my AP. It seems as if Spotify on AP has some problems with
searching/finding other Spotify-Connect sources.
Also, it appears much more stable in keeping the stream going and I
don't have to press on the Play-button in order to proceed with the next
song once in a while.

I hope this may help other users of Spotty.

Yes, for a reason. Don't touch it. Leave it alone, as it will be set

Is that correct?

Yes, that's correct.

Plugins::Spotty::Connect::Daemon::_checkStartTimes (112) The spotty

announcement of the Connect daemon.

You should only get this message once, unless you go to the settings and

I just quoted to keep continuity on this line of dialogue.

I think the AlienBBC approach is not directly applicable as its protocol
handler for RTSP was based on handling a TCP connection where I think
spotty uses LMS http handling.

I think it may be best to go along with socketwrapper mods.

Looking at the code the suggested mod seems OK - only area I am worried
is with more than 2 exe's (i.e. not typical faad/flac )

I've tested watchdog with a "I" convert.conf rules (stream from stdin)
and it is OK although a bit slower. I've still to do a "R" rules
(stream from an URL) to make most normal cases are still ok.

I didn't test the #PIPE# construct as I don't know any plugin which uses
it anymore or any transcoding type application which may require it.

The rarer case of 3 exes (e.g. AAC to a older SB player which has bit
rate limiting, Brutfir on some other transcoding) also remains to be
tested.

Your postings are rather confusing. Once it's "since the beginning",
then it's "since this version". And quite obviously it did work, as
there seem to be credentials stored in your system...

Well... there's not much to look at. That discussion over at Kodi's is

Still doesn't really explain why spotty break while "Listen

buffers in players & intermediates are full, and as player plays & asks
for more, it is trickled through - this doesn't cause watchdog timeout.

Not easy to do without changing lots of LMS code or Spotty plugin having
Pipeline code like AlienBBC which played RealAudio - used to have .
The code below is old and out of date however since it starts with
"*use base qw(Slim::Player::Pipeline);*" and
and then the "*my $self = $class->SUPER::new(undef, $command);*"  in
current LMS could have a "local" param.

2019-11-01 Thread Michael Herger

The main difference here is that sorry does not really stream as such.
Typical streaming send data in small chunks (think of live radio). In a
fast connection, spotty gets files downloaded on a matter of seconds.

But that's how other streaming services (Pandora, Napster, Tidal...)
behave, too. They just don't need the transcoding pipeline.

Setting spotty as local would disable the wdt, which will resolve my
issue.

How would I do that? If I changed the isRemote() flag, spotty wouldn't
play any more at all. At least not on the Mac.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2019-11-01 Thread Michael Herger

In the convert.conf - does spotty read data from an URL or process a
byte stream from LMS stdin so that LMS gets the data initially.

It's reading bytes from the spotty helper, which would download from a
remote source. But as sle118 mentioned: it's track based, not a single
stream.

Just by looking at the convert.conf file I'm guessing $URL$ is a spotify
URL which is used to get data but I don't recognise what $CACHE$ is
about.

$CACHE$ is just the cache folder where spotty would find temporary
files, credentials etc.

Remote stream were expected to work either as
* live - infinite stream which runs in realtime so there is very little
data to buffer - if input connection is marginal and loses time sending
data then rebuffering.

That's not the spotty case.

* "listen again"/podcast - URL will supply as much data as possible so
that player will have all the data for minutes before it is finished
playback - so watchdog timeouts occurs after all data is in player.

That's closer to Spotty's behaviour.

I feel to trigger watchdog -spotty is behaving like multiple "live"
connections with gaps or some other variation.

Spotty would stream every track of a playlist or album individually. I
don't know how that "live" behaviour would be controlled...

The main difference here is that sorry does not really stream as such.
Typical streaming send data in small chunks (think of live radio). In a
fast connection, spotty gets files downloaded on a matter of seconds.
This causes buffers to fill up with parts of a track only. When the
client buffers need data, the wdt has already killed the socket and so
the stream runs dry.

Setting spotty as local would disable the wdt, which will resolve my
issue.

In the convert.conf - does spotty read data from an URL or process a
byte stream from LMS stdin so that LMS gets the data initially.
Just by looking at the convert.conf file I'm guessing $URL$ is a spotify
URL which is used to get data but I don't recognise what $CACHE$ is
about.

My gut feeling is that I may have to try using Spotty to understand the
issue - just I have absolutely no spare time for the next few weeks.

Remote stream were expected to work either as
* live - infinite stream which runs in realtime so there is very little
data to buffer - if input connection is marginal and loses time sending
data then rebuffering.
* "listen again"/podcast - URL will supply as much data as possible so
that player will have all the data for minutes before it is finished
playback - so watchdog timeouts occurs after all data is in player.

I feel to trigger watchdog -spotty is behaving like multiple "live"
connections with gaps or some other variation.

Does the spotty application behave as a series of files being streamed
with gaps in between ? If so then it may explain why this behaviour was
not seen before.

Spotty is track by track. Is there anything I'd have to tweak in the

I'm still looking as there were multiple way socketwrapper can be used
and you are testing only one of them. I'm not sure if some of the ways
are still needed but they at least need to be examined.

socketwrapper watchdog was implemented to deal with remote stream which
are considered to be infinite. It is disabled when it is being used
"local" for files.

Does the spotty application behave as a series of files being streamed
with gaps in between ? If so then it may explain why this behaviour was
not seen before.

I need to understand why spotty suddenly has this problem ? and that the
change does not break current uses of socketwrapper including the
watchdog activation (i.e. you have proved that watchdog still work in
the same manner with no zombies when streams stall).

Indeed. Go away for a few days, come back and it’s working, allowing me
to connect my account as it should. A mystery, although I am seeing some
intermittent issues with one or two of the squeezeboxes not connecting
to the server so maybe there is something wider going on.

Thanks for your help anyway.

I've been running a modified socket wrapper for many days now and I did
not experience any additional drop. Note that this is not obvious to
reproduce. Stream from a low quality source, and tracks are likely to
fully fit in player. I stream at 320kbps, and I suspect that the
playback lenght before a STREAMOUT status happen will also depend on the
hardware of the player, namely the buffer size.

When spotty is being run on Windows with socketwrapper - is there a "-i"
command line option used on the socketwrapper command line ? I think
player.source set to INFO will provide the info.

I was originally thinking of increasing the WDT timeout duration, but
this would just push the problem around; how long do you make the
timeout, knowing that there are some very long tracks out there (think
progressive rock, classical music, podcasts, etc). I also thought about
using the original WDT increment (each packet increments the wdt
counter) coupled with decrement, where the main thread substract from
the counter on every timeout (as opposed to current logic that sets the
wdt counter to 0 after the first timeout), but I can always think of a
scenario that would make the wdt trigger prematurely.

So I am 100% confident that this would solve most of the issues related
to "not playing tracks fully" that, when searching for solutions, seem
to have started appearing a long while ago. We'd need a second opinion
to understand potential issues I can think of like

- Similar to what happened to the sockerwrapper, source streams might
"die" if the source side doesn't read often enough
- Processes could possibly become orphans if the LMS reader ends
  prematurely.

I'm happy to take the "risk" in my own environment, though, and spotty
playback is now solid as a rock (no pun intended).

SUCCESS!

I've recompiled the windows socket wrapper with a small change that only
activates the WDT mechanism when reading from the source socket (and
ignores long waits on writing to the LMS thread). I cranked the bit rate
back to 320 kbps, played one of the albums which I knew was skipping
almost all the songs and played it fully. No more "skipping at random"
behavior, socketwrapper start when it's needed and stop when it's no
longer needed, so I'm going to call this a fix for my own use.

Michael, I will clone the slimserver-tools repository in my git in case
you'd like to consider merging it back to server.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2019-10-27 Thread sle118

So after giving my issue more thoughts, I ended up blaming the windows
socket wrapper's wdt. The trouble here, AFAIK, is that the WDT is
supposed to detect remote side streaming connections being stalled. In
my case (and likely a lot of past related issues), the wdt triggers
while writing the data back to LMS and I believe this is unnecessary.

To prove my point, I modified the streamwrapper component so the wdt
mechanism is only active on a 'read from remote' operation. This works
as follow:

- Add a new flag to the wrapper threads: bIsWriting
- Set the flag to false at the top of the read/write loop
- just before writing the data to the local socket (LMS), set the flag
  to true
- Inside of the main socket wrapper controller thread, trigger the wdt
when the wdt counter=0 and when not writing

I will test this and report back on results.

It might also be the same problem I had with my bridges: when using low
bitrate formats, the client buffers a lot of audio at first and then,
depending on high/low watermark, it might be a while before they request
another chunk. The *server* side thinks that the socket is dead and
closes it. So it's not the fault of the client, but the WDT is on the
server.

More precisely, it happened during track switch where the next track
caused a sudden data inrush (while the current one was still playing)
but there would be no more request for data untill the current track has
finished. I realize it might be specific to my plugin, though. Here is
my comment in slimproto

Code:

Streaming services like Deezer or RP plugin close
connection if
stalled for too long (30s), so if STMd is sent too
early, once the
outputbuf is filled, connection will be idle for a
while, so need
to wait a bit toward the end of the track before
sending STMd.

One option might be to use pcm and not ogg, so that there is not such a
big data inrush

Oh, that warning actually means you'll need to fully reload the settings

become invalid once you restart LMS. This is to prevent changes through
cross-site scripting etc.

Might be a firewall or something blocking outgoing connections?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2019-10-25 Thread sle118

I've been banging my head against the wall on an issue which prevents me
from enjoying Spotty. First I thought something was wrong with my
SqueezeAmp and started looking in the logs to see if I could get some
insights. Eventually, I realized something was wrong on the server
side.

Fast forward: I ended up running the squeezebox server from the command
line to get the output from the socket wrapper, as it seemed that it was
somehow terminating abruptly. What seems to happen is:

- Socket wrapper opens up spotty
- socket wrapper transfers several data chunks, so far so good
- After some time, the socket wrapper stalls and watchdog kills the
  process

Here is the extracted socket wrapper log:

Code:

SW: 2019-10-25 12:21:35.282 Socketwrapper 1.11beta

SW: 2019-10-25 12:21:59.338 Socketwrapper has terminated.

This results in a cascading effect which causes
Slim::Player::Source::_readNextChunk to detect the end of the stream and
report "end of file or error on socket", with a position that represents
the number of bytes read. At this point, the streaming controller
changes to a new streaming state : STREAMOUT. The player will keep going
until its internal buffer is empty, and the next track will start.

Unfortunately, and with a variety of players (duet, boom, etc), this
most of the time result in a song that gets cut out.

Is there any way to get some logging out of spotty or its underlying
librespot? This might help me unearth the actual root cause, as for now
I'm in the dark.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2019-10-25 Thread ai1

Hello

I have no chance with using Spotty since last Summer. After numerous
restarts I have succeed to install the plugin. However, now the LMS
crashes when I try to enter the spotify credentials at the parameters
page, I see the following in the server.log:

[19-10-25 18:14:18.1582] Plugins::Spotty::Settings::Auth::handler (75)
Authorization failed : called `Result::unwrap()` on an `Err` value: Os {
code: 110, kind: TimedOut, message: "Operation timed out" } : thread
'main' panicked at 'called `Result::unwrap()` on an `Err` value: Os {
code: 110, kind: TimedOut, message: "Operation timed out" }',
src/libcore/result.rs:997:5
note: Run with `RUST_BACKTRACE=1` environment variable to display a
backtrace.

Any educated opinion about what is going on?

Regards,

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2019-10-24 Thread Michael Herger

/spotty-x86_64 -n test --check

ok spotty v0.20.0
{"debug":false,"lms-auth":true,"ogg-direct":true,"version":"0.20.0","volume-normalisation":true}

That's perfect. I don't really know why Spotty wouldn't work then...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2019-10-24 Thread Michael Herger

What happens if you run

/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotty/Bin/i386-linux/spotty-x86_64

from the command line?

I get told to specify the device name and the list of options is listed.

Which means it is there and does work. Hmm... No idea what happens
there. It's the exact path that in the log is mentioned as not working.

What if you run

.../spotty-x86_64 -n test --check

?
