2009-11-17 Thread Michael Herger
Michael! I think you have nailed the cause of this issue. If I change
the URL to your suggestion, I get a mix back.

replacing the %3d with the = sign? Or removing the additional parameters?
That's quite surprising, as none of those showed any impact in my tests. But
then I only tested against MIP on OSX and Linux (MIP 1.8). I'll test again on
my WHS later this week or next week when I'm back at the office.

What version are you running on your WHS?

The plugin is downloaded via the repository.

The SpiceFly plugin? The MIP integration is installed by default.

If it indeed is a bug in
the plugin, then more people should have this problem...

Yeah... but still it's bad encoding (if the = vs. %3d issue is your problem).
Please file a bug report - don't forget to add me to the CC list.

I am running version 1.8.1b (MIP) and 7.4.1 (SBS)

you are right about MIP (of course),it is the standard integration. I
did download SpiceFly from the repository... I will disable it and try
this again to isolate the processs.

Changing the ?3d to = did solve the problem for the URL

I will file a bug report (based on the isolation test with SugarCube
disabled)..

Thanks!

2009-11-16 Thread BodgeIT

I guess what's going on is that the headless server and MusicIp GUI
aren't actually talking to each other, only reading and writing to the
same dbase.

Funny how the Test Connection button on the server tab actually
works?

Didn't really pay that much attention when I set it up and it was a
good while ago.

That makes it very important that the headless server is using the file
that is created by MusicIP Mixer.

I think in one of your posts however you did say you could create a
test mix in the webpage from Spicefly...so I could be barking up the
wrong tree.

Hmm... the above url seems to have a minor glitch. Can you open it in your

IMHO the = sign after song should not be URI encoded. But if that was a
general issue in the MIP plugin, all of us users would see it fail :-/.

If this still doesn't work, try removing one parameter after the other until
you only use the song=... parameter (no variety, etc.).

Is there a way the API from Music IP can be inaccessible to

2009-11-15 Thread BodgeIT

Matt,
I think you have another post on this running somewhere elae.
I would like to confirm WHS running SB 7.4.2 with MusicIP 1.9b6
(headless).

In reply to your other post I didn't mention that my system looks for
it's music on my other server over the network. That's the only
difference I can see at this point. By the way mine was working even
without the depency change that I just made while following this issue.

When accessing your local music you should still configure MusicIP and
SB to access the local files through the network unc shares i.e.
\\whsserver\music
and not d:\shares\music

WHS filesystem is configured in a pretty fangled way as far I have read
and it can present problems accessing the file system directly. Oh and
turn off your firewall.

Hope this provide a breakthrough.

My apologies. I have not yet closed the other post and referenced this

I have tried running it without the firewall on... that did not work.
Since both servers are on the same box, I don't believe the firewall
should block it. that said: after running with the firewall off, there
was no difference.

Maybe I will upgrade to SC 7.4.2

I had this running with 7.3.3 on WHS as well.
The firewall would block access to network share unless smb was
allowedthrough which more thasn likely is default, Agree it shouldn't
make a difference but just to rule it out I thought to suggest it.

I don't know if you've tried this through your other endeavours but I
did at one point in my setup suspect an issue with the musicip dbase and
so renamed the file and created a new one through a fule rescan, then a
rescan on SB.

I'm sorry I just can't remember what the issue was that made me do
that.

MusicIP API error - invalid request or internal error.

This can result if the file to be mixed can't be found by mip. Does it happen
with all files? Are you using the same unc path in mip?

I can see the Music IP site on port 10002, both on WHS itself and on

do you get a mix for the above file in the mip web ui?

from the web site (spicefly version of the index.html), the mixes are
generated. From the GUI, the mixes work perfectly.. Only with
SqueezeBoxServer I seem to have an issue. This worked very well before I
migrated SqueezeBoxServer and MusicIP from my home use PC to a dedicated
server.

The UNC's in MusicIP are correct, I emptied the files from the client
and did a rescan in the server (they do reed from the same cache file,
which in Vista/Windows 7 is different)

the file itself is mixable (from the 20,000 odd files I have, only a
handful are not mixable).

Is there something in particular in the WHS architecture (basically, it
is Win2k3) i need to consider?

hi Michael,

I seem to be stuck where SqueezeBoxServer invokes MIP via the API to
send a seed for mixing, and receive the mix back. Here is the log output
with MusicIP on Debugger:

I can see the Music IP site on port 10002, both on WHS itself and on

cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP/ SpiceFly for WHS running 7.4 - your help needed

2009-11-12 Thread matthijskoopmans

To Original Poster: I am quite interested in learning if you actually
got MIP working over WHS.

To anyone that may be able to help: I am a big MIP and SugarCube fan,
but for the life of me, I cannot seem to get MIP working on WHS. I
started a separate thread on that (here: ), and here is a snip with the
relevant info:

--snip--

Installed the spicefly index.html, and created a test mix (via the
index page on the browser) from my connected PC. That works fine.
Running the same test mix on the home server (usin IE on the home
server) works fine as well.

Running the mix from SqueezeCenter: empty mix.

The stats:
Total songs 21,033
Mixable songs 21,026
Songs to validate 0

There must be something in the squeezecener / music ip interface that
is not set up right, it seems squeezecenter cannot access the MIP API.

here is the output of the debugger:
[09-11-11 15:27:07.1999] Slim::Plugin::MusicMagic::Plugin::getMix (928)

--end snip--

This stops me from running my beloved spicefly sugercube mixes as well
(obviously :) )

Thanks in advance for any advice you could give me.

Glad to hear that you have not completely given up on SC 7.4. Standing
on the sidelines I can see that not a lot of new or enhanced plugins
have surfaced lately. Like yourself other developers might be
reluctant to introduce new plugins or enhanced existing ones for fear
that the next build around the corner will brake them. It is not
pleasant to see all your hard work be made obsolete by changes outside
your control. Maybe soon the SC 7.4 will stabilize enough to allow you
to update SugarCube on this build and also allow you to move those
updates to the next quantum leap (SC 8.x) without much pain.

Btw, I'm still using SugarCube on SC 7.4, but I restrict it from using
the Latin and World Music genres in my library because this is where the
majority of the tracks with path/filenames with extended characters
exists.

(Though much improved in later versions) As you say Apples and
Oranges.. you can use SugarCube in place of the standard MusicIP plugin,
I certainly dont use it any more but then I'm biased I guess ;)

It talks to the engine via the port http://localhost:10002/ or
whatever has been configured via MusicIP headless or the MusicIP GUI
frontend and does so at each track change, so it explores your library
without being saddled to a static playlist.

 Cheers

cparker, there was a change made in last night's build that fixed the
MusicIP issue with extended characters. I thought, wrongly so, that once
the issue with extended characters with MusicIP was fixed that it would
also fix the same issue with SugarCube. This was the case a while ago
when the extended characters issue was fixed in MusicIP and resolved the
the issue in SugarCube. See my post (#20) towards the end of this
thread. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67219

Could it be that a change needs to be made in your plugin to get it to
work again with tracks with extended characters on top of the new SC 7.4
MySQL builds?

Well I can tell you that the MIP plugin and the Sugarcube are mutually
exclusive and dont touch each other at all.

SugarCube does obviously utilise utf8 and I guess something has changed
with the Squeeze Unicode utf8 de/encoding functions that is breaking
it.

I think I'll stick with 7.3.x for the time being, it was painful enough
fixing this the first time around!

I knew that the plugins were not dependent on each other, but I was
hoping that what was fixed to make MusicIP work was also going to affect
SugarCube... but I guess the MusicIP fix was in the plugin's code not
the server's code.

I've been using an old SC 7.4 MySQL build 26558 as both MusicIP and
SugarCube work without any issues. I think is time for me to move on to
the current SC 7.4 builds now that MusicIP works on those builds. There
are a lot of enhancements in 7.4 that I want to get acquainted with and
so today's build is moving on top of my main server. It would have been
nice if I had SugarCube and MusicIP working, but I guess I can live
without one, but not both.

cparker, do you plan to fully support the SugarCube plugin on the SC
7.4 builds or are you just going to wait for the 8.x builds and bypass
the 7.4 builds all together?

Thanks for that, interesting reading. Unfortunately it does back up my

This article says the solution to getting MusicIP and SBS to boot in the
right order is to do it manually. I would prefer an automated solution.
I could try the registry hack on spicefly.com but I am not sure if it is
up to date or not, can anyone advise? Also the article talks about the
MusicIP plugin, not spicefly so I am still unsure of the difference
between them. Again, if someone can clarify that would be great.

You have to do it as described by spicefly (create a dependancy). This is
still true in 7.3+.

I did it only about a week ago. The instructions aren't fully up to date.
The service now is called squeezesvc, no longer slimsvc. So instead of
providing a reg file (which many malware scanners will block anyway)
better give clear instructions on how to do this.

So I opened a DOS box and typed:

and I got back

so I think it has worked, however I don't know how to check it. If I
get up properties of the Squeezebox server in Services no dependencies
show. One thing that puzzled me is the SBS executable is SqueezeSvr.exe
yet the service is called squeezesvc, why is that? When I try and
restart SBS I get the message Error 1075: The dependency service does
not exist or has been marked for deletion. I reckon I have got the

Don't know about SpiceFly. But you sure can use MusicIP without it.

Well, maybe this information could be useful:

This is how I seee it at a high level. The difference between MusicIP
and SugarCube is that with MusicIP one can manually create an
intelligent playlist with a predetermined number of tracks based on a
single seed (track). While SugarCuge (when enabled) automatically
creates an endless playlist where the next track is selected by MusicIP
based on currently playing track. In essence the resulting playlists
from SugarCube are based on multiple seeds. The mood of a playlist
generated using MusicIP will closely follow the mood of the seed track
while the mood of a SugarCube playlist will eventually diverge from the
mood of the seed track. Looks like apples and oranges, but SugarCube is
dependent on the intelligence of the MusicIP engine to select the next
track to the playlist.

Here is some more info that might help:

There are to methods to validate one's library using MusicIP. One is
with embedded MusicIP tags that hold the validation info and the other
is by using a reference file (default.m3lib) which holds an index of
tracks with their corresponding MusicIP validation info. Because MusicIP
is/was in Beta I choose to use the index file method. If I decide to
change the location of my music library I have to reflect that change in
the default.m3lib file for MusicIP to continue to work. I still don't
know if adding the MusicIP tags to my library might affect the way it
works with SC or other media players/servers.

Correct, though the standard MusicIP plugin works in the same method
just that it talks to the engine once to gather a heap of tracks in
one go.

SugarCube works independently and doesnt require the MusicIP plugin
enabled within Squeezecenter with its double scanning overhead. etc

Cheers

I would just make a correction that you are not restricted to a single
track for the seed. Your MIP mixes can be based on a single track, an
album, an artist, a playlist, or multiple tracks. It's just that in most
Squeezebox interfaces, it's difficult to select multiple tracks unless
they are in a playlist.

I like the rest of your description. Sugarcube tends to meander a lot
more that a regular MIP mix, which is the main difference to me. Often I
don't like the direction it gets going in and I have to start it off
clean again, but setting up filters in MIP helps with that.

Chunkywizard: You may already have this covered, but if you write
anything up, you should make a note about disabling the Bonjour service
on WHS before running the MusicIP installer. That tripped me up until I
found the solution via Google. Now that the MIP forums are gone, it
might not be as easy to find the solution.

Also, I never did anything special, and I have never had a problem with
the startup order of MusicIP and Squeezebox Server.

You may want to make a suggestion in your write-up to run analysis on a
machine other that your WHS machine. I found that even going over the
network, it was TONS faster to do analysis on one of my client machines
instead of my HP MediaSmart. It also kept it from bogging down the
server for the several days it was going to take to do analysis. By
running it on my client PC, it was done overnight. I also do all new
music analysis on a client machine over the network, archiving analysis,
and then just add the songs via headless GUI.

Guess that's all I can think of to add...

Thanks for clarifying... I should had said single seed (track, album,
artist and playlist)

I sometimes don't like the direction either, but I find the paths that
it uncovers very interesting. I enable SugarCube and walk away... If I
don't like where is going I select a new seed (track, album, artist
and playlist)... and walk away again.

Thanks for all the input, I now know a lot more than before. However I
still don't know enough to get this working! I'm still fiddling, and
will be back with questions if my current ideas all fail ;-D

I reread the wiki and I really don't know enough to update it, I'm
skimming the surface. What I might do (if I ever get it working) is do a
bluffers guide ie, a short key-points guide. I can also point to areas
of the wiki that are wrong, but it will not be a complete update as I
don't understand a lot of it!
