Re: building on OpenBSD
Stuart Henderson s...@spacehopper.org wrote: There are a number of ports which use flac and vorbis which we need to patch to add library dependencies which don't seem to be needed anywhere else (the most common being -lm for vorbis), can anyone throw some light on why it's done this way and not just pulled in by recorded library dep's? Because inter-library dependencies don't work on static architectures. Once upon a time it was OpenBSD policy not to rely on inter-library dependencies and in fact to *remove* them (espie@ was quite adamant at the time), so things would end up working on static archs, too. Over time people started ignoring and eventually forgetting about this, and when asked, espie@ has been wavering for years. The result is that by now only a handful of basic libraries (largely maintained by me, I guess) remove the inter-library dependencies. If there is some sort of consensus, I'll happily stop doing this-- starting with gettext-iconv. Things will then work the same as elsewhere, except on vax, where they'll break even more. -- Christian naddy Weisgerber na...@mips.inka.de

Re: UPDATE: sysutils/cfengine 2.2.10 - 3.4.2 (take 3)
Penned by Martijn Rijkeboer on 20130316 8:20.50, we have: | Hi, | | The attached archive is take 3 of an update of sysutils/cfengine to version | 3.4.2. This version explicitly disables libvirt because when libvirt was | installed it was build with libvirt. | | I've chosen to disable libvirt because, to my knowledge, OpenBSD can't be | used as a (production) host for virtual machines. As Jirib suggested, it | can be used to remote control KVM via libvirtd, but the cfengine way would | be to install cfengine on the host that runs KVM and not to remote control | it. So there's no use for libvirt capabilities in cfengine on OpenBSD. | | If there're no further objections, please commit so other people can also | start testing it. | | Kind regards, | | | Martijn Rijkeboer As I pointed out to the libvirt maintainer, libvirt should be enabled to use the qemu engine that does work on OpenBSD. Sure it is slower than real hardware, and because of this it makes little sense to use for more than testing, but personally I find having a test network of qemu instances useful to bring up now and then for various testing scenarios. If libvirtd could make life easier for this, why would cfengine not be able to help making sure the virtual network is virtually easy to maintain? Point being, if it costs us nothing to enable libvirt support, why would we disable it? I don't mind having a libvirt flavor. I'll try to create a take 4 version with a libvirt flavor. cfengine does not run after installation, either copy some basic policy files or provide real README. Attached is a new version of the README is this what you meant? Event it is declared to be built statically it is not, thus it cannot run from /var/cfengine without /usr/local mounted. Which is quite ridiculous... :) I haven't been successful how to built it statically correctly :( I didn't succeed either and since the official binaries are not statically linked I don't think it will work. 1. patch for configure is useless, drop it 2. add FAKE_FLAGS += examplesdir=${PREFIX}/share/examples/cfengine to meet OpenBSD standards OK Kind regards, Martijn Rijkeboer README Description: Binary data

I wrote a small useful metronome program in the ports tree (called metronome). Thank you, I didn't know about it. Having looked at both, I think audio/metronome is way superior. It's ~200 lines of clean, sndio-based code; ctronome is dsp via ossaudio. If there's a useful missing feature, I'd be willing to give it a shot. The two features that ctronome has which metronome does not: 1) can use external wav file (-w) for the beeps; metronome computes the sine wave internaly. I don't consider it a miss really. 2) ctronome is programmable, as in prog_example.txt But if you need to program your metronome, you should IMHO be already using a real drum machine anyway. Some meh tweaks to metronome in a separate email. Jan
metronome
By default, metronome (audio/metronome) does scroll stdin lines to stdout in sync with the beat. The problem is, it waits for fgetln(stdin, len), so the simple and expected $ metronome issues just one beep and waits for a line to read on stdin. The next beep happens upon an enter. I think it's unexpected behaviour. It works fine though with 'yes | metronome' or 'metronome /dev/null'. Also, the manpage wording is not very clear: -F Display lines from stdin on stdout, one line each beat. By default, 1/10th. 1/10 of what? One line per beat is one line per beat. (Or I am missing something.) It would IMHO be a better default to ignore stdin, and just keep the beat. The diff bellow does that (and adds one return-value check while at it). Re: metronome
On Mar 18 23:22:05, h...@stare.cz wrote: By default, metronome (audio/metronome) does scroll stdin lines to stdout in sync with the beat. (Or I am missing something.) Or it belongs to -f.
update print/poppler
Update to poppler-0.22.2. Changes since 0.22.0: Release 0.22.2 core: * Correct rendering of underline and strike out annotations (Bug #61518) * Workaround broken jpeg stream definitions (Bug #61994) * SplashOutputDev: Restore CTM on early exits (Bug #61413) * SplashOutputDev: Make sure we don't try to paint in x 0 (KDE Bug #315432) * Fix latin page labels. (Bug #61034) * Fix compilation with jpeglib9 * Fix minor valgrind warning utils: * pdfimages: Fix extraction of some images (Bug #61168) build system: * Fix the build with automake-1.13 Release 0.22.1 core: * Fix crash in some pdf files when extracting text (Bug #59561) * Fix crashes in wrongly formed files * Fix wrong warning when opening some files (Bug #58966) build system: * Improve autoconf jpeglib.h detection (Bug #59186) The constructor of class DCTStream got an additional third argument (an Object *dict), so I think libpoppler itself needs a major bump (and while writing this mail, I just noticed that this time even upstream applied a major bump). I didn't see any other incompatible changes, not even additions, in the other libraries. I successfully built the following ports on amd64 with it: editors/gummi editors/libreoffice editors/texmaker editors/texworks graphics/evince graphics/gimp/stable graphics/inkscape print/apvlv print/cups-filters print/epdfview print/py-poppler print/texlive/base productivity/impressive textproc/calibre textproc/zathura x11/kde/graphics3 x11/kde/office3 x11/xfce4/tumbler I did some manual tests on some evil pdf files with evince and epdfview. There may be a regression on one pdf file, I'll check tomorrow if this is a real regression. Anyway, tests, comments and oks are welcome. If you want to give it a try, don't forget to explicitely reset the flavor, i.e. run something like env FLAVOR= make ... or you'll end up without the qt and qt4 libraries.
