This spring I will be laying some track for an O Scale railroad around my
garden. Nothing like a full size train, but just as time consuming. I see full
size cabooses for sale once in a while but my wife won't go for it.

Hi Nicholas, if you are going to build a train outside, I do think it's G scale
(1/22.5) not 0 (1:43) ;-)

On a train forum I 'speak' with a girl who is a train nut. She has a lot of
model trains but no tracks (she lives in a small flat). She travel a lot by
trains and worked during one year for the French National Train Society. She
told me she had already driven the TGV and some other trains ! Yesterday, I met
her for the first time. She is young, blonde and ... blind !

Re: [NF] Who on this list is a train nut?

2013-01-24 Thread Jean MAURICE
In fact, the 'real' driver is on her side. All the driving she has done (and
that I have done too) is 'illegal' and able only because we know the driver and
because he is confident.

Driving a passenger train is very easy when all is ok. The main difficulty is
obeing (to obey) the signals and the speed limits. I do think the real driver
has driven the last mile first to stop at the right point and second because
there is a lot of chiefs on the platforms !

Driving a freight train is a lot more complicated because brakes are very slow
and unefficient.

Problems raise when something is wrong.

Is it possible that the tooltip is displaying behind the form? Since the
form is always on top, then maybe you can't put the tooltip in front of
 it.

If I set AlwaysOnTop=.f., the ToolTipText could be displayed properly.

My scale is definitely O and not G. I decided on O because the price
of rolling stock, etc. is 50% less plus I can get much more operation in the
same space. G scale is too toylike for my taste.

In the U.S. O scale is 1:48 not 1:43.
I suppose this thread has gotten out of hand and the NF police will be after

Can NOT Un-Minimize a System

2013-01-24 Thread Kurt
There is this VERY Strange problem with one of our systems here at work. Its
an older VFP app, and created using VFP7. This problem is NOT something I
have EVER Seen before.

When you minimize the application, you can't bring the App back up by
hitting the Tab at the bottom of Windows. I have, at times, been able to
switch back to it using the Task Mgr. - but, a User of the system should NOT
have to do that!

Has anyone seen this before? And, if so - do you know what I should look for
in the code to resolve the issue?

TIA,

Possible cause: A developer had two monitors. The main monitor is on the
right, the secondary is on the left. Most of the VFP work is done on the

Or some crazy thing like that. The window ends up off the screen.

Next time you see it, try to Cascade the windows. Right click on the Windows

RE: Can NOT Un-Minimize a System

2013-01-24 Thread Kurt
Tracy - thanks for the input. I've actually worked on Dual Screen systems in
the past - so, I do know what it is you are speaking about. However, that's
definitely not the case here. If you go in to Task Manager - you CAN the
screen back up - by selecting the App and hitting Switch To. It does work.

But - the NO App should work that way!

Also, I tried your suggestion - and hit Cascade - but, that did NOT bring
the App back up on the screen!

I'm sure there must be something strange in the code - I just know if I
troll around in the code and the screens for what is causing the problem - I
could be trolling for hours - since I really don't know what I am looking
for. Was hoping someone had seen this Exact problem in the past - and knew
how to resolve it.

Well - I'm about to Dive into it now and see what I can come up with...

Well - folks - I got the problem resolved. I found a strange command in the
Main program - one I hadn't seen or used before - not sure of its original
purpose - although, the program who put it in there actually did make a
comment. So - this was the EVIL Line - which I commented out:

*_SCREEN.Enabled = .F. So that clicks dont respond and hide main form

All's well that ends well...

Hey Frank - I gotta agree - I find Screens easier to maintain as well.

As for SCX's being slower than PRG's - and someone followed up with some
Stats - I think those stat's are old. I only say that - because computers
are SO Much faster these days - that I don't think it would generally be
noticeably slower to a user whether its SCX or PRG's. IMHO.

I also just wanted to follow up say - my Boss is LOVING what I have been
doing. Its all coming along - creating this conversion program - and so far
its working well. Of course, I'm still working on the program - its not
ANYWHERE Near completed. But, it does A LOT So far!

So, I'm still plugging away at it...

Hey Dan,

I would think that harder to maintain is very subjective as I find
them much much much easier to maintain than PRGs.

Do you have some statistics to backup your assertion that running an SCX
is slower than a PRG (I have no doubt it is, but I'd like to see by how
much).

Thanks

RE: Screen Hacking a Problem...

2013-01-24 Thread Kurt
Yeah - that's kinda what I'm talking about. With technology so fast these
days - your really only going to notice something get slow if there is a LOT
OF SH-T going on to cause a slow down. Like, doing 3D CG rendering - truth
is - we almost never have enough power to make that happen quickly. But,
that being said - there are now realtime renderers for creation of 3D images
that actually happens on the Video Board. But, still - you need to blow a
LOT of money on the kinda card that actually works well enough - we're
talking like $3K to $5K just for a video card like that.

Ain't computers fun?!?!?
