Just a question, are you dropping an insertion point with the down arrow? And
then executing the fade command.

Slau, this is what I'm doing, and then you can tell me where I'm screwing up.

control P and control; the track is an acoustic sub. At Bar six I am pressing
control G. Voiceover says nothing. I tried selecting between bar six an bar 10
then pressing command F, voiceover says nothing. I am still lost. Please help?

Re: Splitting to fade

2020-06-16 Thread Slau Halatyn
Oh, and BTW, If you extend your insertion cursor through multiple tracks with
Control+semicolon or Control+P, you can create a fade on all of the selected
tracks with one keystroke, Control+g. If all of the clips end at the same time,
the fade will be equal on all clips. If some of the clips are longer, the fades
on those clips will be proportionately slower since they change over a longer
period of time in the timeline.

Re: Splitting

Hi Jimmy,
You don't have to split anything to create a fade. That mp3 I mentioned in my
previous message demonstrates it. Let me know if you need more info.

Splitting to fade

2020-06-16 Thread jimmie smith

I must not be doing something right. Like I said before, I have 10 bars of
acoustic guitar. The bar starts at bar one, to bart10. I want to fade out
starting at bar six. I do not understand how to set this up to be done. If
there's some documentation, I'll be more than happy to read it. If not, can
someone please go through the process with me? I have both guitar tracks in a
sub. Does that mean I would have to perform the fade on the sub mix?

Once you hit convert, the file format automatically changes to the

Hey chris. do you have to do this in protools. It’s doable with markers. But
i’ve found it easier doing this with programs like Sound forge. mac or PC it
doesn’t really matter. I usually mark out what I want, open a new document and

Re: Splitting an MP3

2018-10-21 Thread Niklas Karlsson
Hi there,

Don’t know if this is the best way to do it, but I use markers (Memory
locations) to mark the beginning of each song.
Then I select a song by making a selection between two markers and then I use
”Bounce to disk” to export that specific selection to an WAB or MP3.

Don’t know if you have worked with memory locations before, but just tell me if
you need help with keyboard shortcuts or something else.

All the best,
Kind regards,

Splitting an MP3

2018-10-20 Thread Christopher Gilland

Guys,

I have an mp3 which I recorded with my digital voice recorder of a band
playing. Yes, I did have permission to do so. I'm not that far gone. LOL!

The whole mp3 is about an hour long, and is all one file with multiple
songs within it.

What I'd like to do is to use ProTools to manually mark the beginning of
each song, then somehow bounce each region, or however I'd have to do
it, out as a separate mp3.

This way, I could burn it on a CD, but have track marks separating each
song on to its own track number on the disc as aposed to just one big
long recording.

What's the best method to tackle this, along with the steps/keystrokes
to make it happen? I'm very very good at selecting audio in PT, in
general. I've not done much though with regions or the like though, so
the more detail you can give me, the better. I think once I do it, it'll
become very easy, as I do tend to learn pretty quickly.

Thanks.

Chris.

Re: Splitting a midi track into more tracks, and setting fixed velosity

2017-12-13 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Ramy,
Use the Split/Select Notes dialog to do the splitting. Before attempting to
execute any splits, make sure you have two selections: 1. Select the track from
which you'd like to split notes and 2. Select the range which would most likely
be from the beginning of the session to the end. In the dialog, you can specify
the note range and have the option to cut or copy, etc.

For the velocity, use the Change velocity dialog. All of these are under the
Events menu. If the options in these dialogs don't make sense, there's a whole
section on MIDI and details on the various aspects of MIDI editing and
processing in the Reference Guide but you should probably have no difficulties.

Splitting a midi track into more tracks, and setting fixed velosity

2017-12-13 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hello all:

When I was using Sonar, I can do midi split for the drum track etc.
I can take each nte let's say , the kick, snair etc each thing on
seprat track in order to mix them. what is the way in pro tools to do
this?

my second question is that, I need after recording a midi track to set
1 number for my velocity, let's say in the drum kick, I need to set
all kics that I recorded to 80 as there velocity. in sonar I was using
something called Run cal,
how can I achieve this in Pro tools?

Thanks so much

Re: Recording small narration, and splitting them into small files after editing.

2017-09-20 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hi Marten and Slau:

Thanks for this very clear steps.
But, the steps I described are too long, are there any easier methods
to achieve this?

also, I was using the Noise gate in soar to reduce the noise then try
to remove the remaining issues.
is this ok to do in pro tools, or I must do another steps?

RE: Recording small narration, and splitting them into small files after editing.

2017-09-20 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Ramy!

Maybe add another step (3.5) after cleaning up the track using your arrow keys.

select the whole track by pressing Enter and than Shift+Option+Enter.
Press Command+F and the Fades Dialog for Batch Fades will pop up.
Just try the factory settings first bei clicking the ok button.
If you are not satisfied, undo the task and get into the same dialog again.
Now - before clicking ok - interact with the different settings.

Batch Fades will add fade-ins at the beginning of an audio clip, fade-outs at
end and cross fades on overlapping audio clips.
The settings inside the dialog take effect regarding fade shapes, fading times
etc.

Than continue with your step 4.

Hello SAlau:

Thanks so much, so the sequence to do this task is as follows:

1- Recording the Hole project on 1 track.
2- insert 2 or 3 tracks that has some extra reverb and delay according

4- copying each file from my original track to my other tracks that
contain the reverb an ddelay.
5- bounce,
is it ok, or do I need something else?

Hi Ramy,
In this case, there's no such thing as more or less professional. Either
approach is viable. It all depends on what is needed in the end and which
approach you feel more comfortable with.

Thanks so much for this, but what is more professional, to put the
reverb and delay on the track itself, or to put each fx ina Bus and

2017-09-19 Thread Slau Halatyn
OK, this is a perfect example of how your approach will vary based upon your
needs. You never mentioned that you'll be needing to export 100 files. With
that in mind,it might be best to take the approach of keeping things on one
track and exporting as needed. Still, you can even accomplish this with
multiple tracks as long as you have markers set to locations. In other words,
you can offline bounce two tracks from marker 3 to marker 4 where the first
part of the audio is dry and the second half includes reverb or delay. If you
set a range between markers 3 and 4 and bounce the track, you'll have a single
file with material from both tracks. Otherwise, as I mentioned earlier, you can
do all of this on one track. Ultimately, the process will essentially be the
same, that is, selecting a range and bouncing.

Re: Recording small narration, and splitting them into small files after editing.

2017-09-19 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Ramy,

You cannot split files while recording. You can punch in and out while the
transport is engaged but that will be quite problematic. You can set markers on
the fly by simply pressing the Enter key on the num pad. If you're going to do
that, you'll want to set the preference for auto-naming markers.
To add reverb or delay to certain parts of the recording on a single track, you
can do this in several ways. Each way has its advantages and disadvantages. You
can send the track's output to a reverb track and a delay track and automate
the send mutes. Given that you're still new to Pro Tools, I wouldn't recommend
going the automation route yet. You can also use Audio suite to apply such
effects to specific sections of the track. You'd have to make the selection
(including space at the end for a reverb or delay tail, set the plug-ins'
wet/dry balance (which you can preview) and apply the effect. You can also
create a second and third track and move the desired clips onto the other
tracks and apply reverb to one and delay to the other. Any clips on those
tracks will have their respective effects while the original track will remain
unaffected. Again, one can do this in several ways and, depending on what is
needed, one can take several approaches. For example, if there will be future
editing within the timeline, splitting the tracks adds a complication that
requires grouping of tracks in order to keep things relatively lined up during
the editing process. One needs to consider this when making the decision on how
to proceed. Keeping everything on one track has its advantages as well but
might require additional editing of voice overlapping reverb and delay tails.
Before doing anything, do yourself a favor and duplicate the playlist on the
track so that you don't lose your original clips.

Recording small narration, and splitting them into small files after editing.

2017-09-19 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hi all:

as you asked me to do, I force myself to leave sonar, to use Pro tools

and, I can now learn by experience. studying, reading manual, etc.

but, in these days, am recording some small narration for very small
stories, the narrator was recording about 2 hours, after he recorded,
don't know what to do, I use this tecnic to split the lon gwave into
small files:
I use the down and up errows, to edit and remove unwanted gledshes etc.
my only problem that I faced is that, the client needs some files to
be with reverb and others no, some with delay etc.
so, what I did to finish my task, is that after editing, I took my
long wave to sound forge, on windows, and I split the long file into
small waves as requested.

so my questions are as follows:
1- is there a way to split the waves wile recording? I mean putting
markers so, when I finish I can split all waves between marks into
seprat waves?
2- can I add effects to some of these files, others not, before exporting them?
3- one of my friends told me that I can use the num 3 on the Keypad
to make pause and continue recording, so, pro tools will add marks
while recording, is it good tecnic, is it professional?

Thanks

Re: splitting drum tracks

2015-11-28 Thread John Gunn
Slau,

All is working as expected. I am so use to creating stereo tracks which I
think was part of the issue.

After creating the original instrument in mono, making grabber tool selected,
made sure selecter tool not selected, and making sure to check the box for
continuous midi data checked all is grate.

When you mentioned about commit tracks, once I have all my tracks if I bounce
them will all tracks I have selected have the track names as well?

Thanks for all your help.

2015-11-28 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi John,

Actually, I think I said make sure the Selector Tool is selected and not the
grabber Tool but, clearly, that wasn't an issue here. It appears it was the
stereo vs. mono track. When you commit instrument tracks, the name of the
resulting audio track will surely follow the name of the virtual track and, if
you have the checkbox checked to have the resulting track be placed after the
committed track, I believe each resulting track will follow its respective
instrument track. I haven't tried committing more than one track at a time so
I'm not entirely sure about how the resulting tracks are inserted but maybe you
can let us know.

Cheers,

Slau

Slau,

You are correct but a question what’s the differences between selecter tool and
grabber tool? Where would you use 1 or the other?

Also, how does one commit a track?

I must say 12.3.1 is much snappier.

Well, as you say, it shouldn't matter but, who knows, maybe it does. I mean,
the track to which you're trying to paste is also a stereo track then? Same
plug-in? One other thing I'd just check is that you're using the Selector Tool.
Curious whether those make a difference.

Re: splitting drum tracks

2015-11-27 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi John,

I'm going to assume the following:
You want to cut a single note from one track and paste that series of the same
note into another track and hear the same sound you heard that note playing in
the first track. In that case, aside from having another instance of the
plug-in on the second track, you'd also have to select the same preset if you
want the sound to match the original intent. When getting ready to paste the
notes, make sure you're in the Edit window and make sure the second track and
not the first is selected. If it's right below the first track, you can simply
press Control-semicolon to move the insertion point to the track below the
first track. Assuming you have Track and Edit selections following each other
under the Options menu, simply clicking on the tracks in the Tracks List table
will also yield the same result. That should work. Let me know if you still
have trouble.

Best,

Slau

Slau,

I have tried the below steps and no results.

I have the original track created and when following the steps nothingh is
pasted in to the second instrument track.

Using Expand2 on the second track do I need to choose the same instrument as I
used in the originaL?

I am sure I am missing something and appreciate any suggestions.

Re: splitting drum tracks

2015-11-26 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi steve,

You can easily do this by splitting the notes within a track. record your MIDI
sequence the way you're used to doing it. When you're done, press Option-y and
set the parameters within the dialog to cut the note range you want and you can
paste into duplicate MIDI or instrument tracks.

A typical workflow might be:
1. Create an instrument track and record the entire sequence.
2. Determine how many individual tracks you might eventually want. Let's say
you wanted kick, snare, toms and cymbals.
3. Create 3 additional instrument tracks.
4. Select the first instrument track along with the range from the session
start to session end.
5. Bring up the Select/Split Notes dialog with Option-y.
6. Let's say you wanted to cut all of the snare hits and they happen to be D1
on the keyboard.
7. Make sure the second radio button labelled, "Notes between" is selected.
8. Click on the first note field and either type in the note name or hit the
note on your keyboard and then repeat the process for the second note field. In
this case, both notes should be the same since you're cutting a range of
exactly one note.
9. Choose the "Split Notes" radio button toward the bottom of the dialog and
press the "Apply" button.
10. Close the dialog and select the second instrument track and paste the notes
into the second track. Now you're snare hits are on the second instrument track.

You can repeat this process using ranges to cover multiple notes like notes
above a certain value, etc. The dialog offers several choices. In the end,
you'll have your notes split between several instrument tracks. From there, if
you're on Pro Tools 12.3, you can commit the tracks to audio and process the
resulting tracks with discrete plug-in chains or whatever you wish.

Hope that helps,

Slau

Hey Slau. just sussed this out. It work’s brilliantly man.
Nice and smooth. Thank you.

By the way, what do you use for recording drums from a midi keyboard. X band is
ok, but i’d like some other choices that are accessible with voice over. I
believe addictive drums was accessible once, If so is it still available. If
not, can you give me some idea of what our options are.
Cheers mate.

Re: splitting drum tracks

2015-11-26 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi steve,

Glad it worked out.

I don't do much drum sequencing as I mostly record drummers playing their kits.
That said, I've been using Strike on occasion as a placeholder. If you want
some better sounds, the Slate drums are nice but you'll absolutely need a
control surface to access parameters.

Best,

Slau

splitting drum tracks

2015-11-25 Thread Steve Sparrow
Hi. i am recording some drum tracks using my keyboard in x band 2. Everything
is working fine. How ever i’m wondering how you guys go about this task. if I
play a drum groove say kick snare and hats, is there a way to separate the drum
sounds after playing. if not what is the best way of going about recording
drums. If you want things on separate instrument tracks, do you have to play
each drum individually I can do this but i don’t get the same feel.
I used to record drums in sonar, and i’d often play in the kick and snare, and
then there was an option to split notes to tracks, wich gave me the drums on
individual tracks. I am very happy to work in a different way, but i’d like to
know what options are available or just how you guys would go about this.
Thanks
Steve
